Re: Importance rating

My guideline here was that the importance rating is per-project, and each project has its own scope. If there was a project for Croatian people's biographies, then they'd definitely have top importance. But on the scope of Croatia as a whole, it's hard to justify top importance for individual people, no matter how popular or unpopular they are, because it's hard for them to have had an overwhelming impact on the entire topic - the whole country, its geography, history, culture, ...

It's exceedingly difficult for me to say that Tesla had a *top* impact on Croatia, because his work was generic and it affected every other country as well, and that would be a slippery slope. We can't have him as a high-priority article for every wikiproject for every country that uses alternating current.

Tito OTOH had a lot of direct impact on Croatia as a whole, but it was also genericized on the level of the whole of Yugoslavia, and it also may have faded more quickly than what Tesla did (the communist party no longer exists at all, yet I'm typing this using AC :). His importance on the .yu wikiproject is top, but that's because its scope is appropriately narrow.

I've only left Tuđman's importance alone because he was instrumental in the founding of the actual country, which looks like a decent milestone in the course of the entire history. On second thought I could demote him too because it's still less than 15 years of overwhelming impact, and later a lot of his actual policy was reversed by successors.

So in general I'm wary of individual people's importance for the per-country wikiprojects. But if there's a guideline somewhere that says otherwise I'll gladly defer, so long as the criteria are clear. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 10:38, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

How did you do that?

I am constantly pleased to see your improvements to my Track and Field articles. But today's minor correction to David Patrick (athlete) amazes me. This was a new article I created out of the blue after realizing it had been missing for a couple of years. Four minutes after I posted the new article, you had already found it and fixed it. I have noticed that you are doing a full review of 'Croatian War of Independence'. Since user Tomobe03 has open an A-Class review, it would be better if you paste your review there, instead on article talk page. Why not do a formal A-class review? You are neutral and experienced editor, so this wouldn't be a problem. A-class review works like GA (with A-class criteria), but at least three editors have to give thear 'support', with no 'oppose' votes for an article to achice A-class (I think). Think about it...you will probably get a Military history reviewers' award for your good work helping with the WikiProject's Peer and A-Class reviews.....:-) Kebeta (talk) 21:27, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

If I may add something to this: I looked at the A-class criteria and the greatest difference from GA (I think) is A3 criteria, but even if that's not in compliance with A-class, reorganizing some of the structure doesn't sound like a major rewrite. I'm also concerned with the A1, since I suspect that some citations may not be formatted properly. As for A2, A4 and A5 I think those might be ready as is - maybe with some minor interventions if any of the reviewers think so. The project FAQ clearly says that the key difference relative to a GA-review is: "a GA-article has not necessarily had any review by a subject-expert, and so it might not be complete, but it is often held to higher standards on style issues" - thus I'm not that concerned with that part as I believe the article is quite complete. Another copyedit may be in order, but one of us could contact a copyeditor that did a GA nomination particularly well. Re: A-class review

Yes the article was significantly improved indeed, and I do believe there's no question now regarding the GA status regardless of the A-class being achieved or not. Since that was the intention in the first place, I'd say the primary objective is met - it's a shame there's no quorum on this one, but it does not really matter.

Right now, I plan to contact few magazines (e.g. Hrvatski Vojnik) to obtain permission to use some of their photos for the article since most of the images are, uhm, not on par with the article itself. Few things remain to iron out in the infobox, but thanks to a lot of teamwork, two A-class reviewers (including yourself) and great copyediting effort by Diannaa, I'd say this article might be a good FAC soon.

Well, I'll take some time to select the images I'd like to use first, and only then seek permission. Right now, the article is quite alright as it is, so I won't rush this. Besides, I have a seriously busy schedule IRL so, it's time to catch up on that and browsing images is just the thing to do during breaks.

The source you pointed out yesterday is interesting, but I think it is better suited to illustrating background to the independence rather than the war - most of the international input in the war was negative: no support (other than maybe political), no weapons (other than smuggled or stockpiled before the war, depending on belligerent in question), no consequences (other than those already detailed as aftermath and economic sanctions), no military involvement (suggested NATO airstrike on the outset of Op Storm is wholly unsubstantiated, no such record or report exists neither by NATO nor USAF, and they are hardly hiding such things - when one compares 1994/1995 NATO involvement in Bosnia, while UNPROFOR footage of the supposed target - Plješivica base - made available depicts no airstrike damage at all, except minor damage to radar dome which appears to be caused by a machine gun strafing). In view of this I feel the international community actions (and inaction) are fairly and proportionally represented, while a broader approach, esp. political and geostrategic one should be in an article on the referendum of 1991 or in a similar place providing background of the independence itself.--Tomobe03 (talk) 12:15, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

I agree about Don't Look Back My Son although I don't know if there's enough information about it available to expand it sufficiently. I did notice that you did some work on the List of Croatian submissions for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and I agree - it looks like a fine candidate for FL. Perhaps the prose could use some expanding about the history of Croatian filmmakers and studios involved with films previously submitted representing Yugoslavia. I tried finding out which film was submitted and rejected in 1991 but to no avail. I'll keep looking, somebody must have mentioned it somewhere. It appears you're right. I dug up 1938 from somewhere, and some sources say she was an akademik, not understanding the difference. Fixed her article and about to remove her from the list. (There are three other people in the category that are suspect: Bogo Grafenauer, Robert Frangeš-Mihanović, and someone else, I forgot his name.) Yes, it's an interesting question. I Googled it a lot and I have no idea. The entire "former members" list on Wikipedia (which includes the former members section on the official website) contains men and the earliest female full member that I know of is Antica Menac (became full member in 1988). Got it! This article says the first women full member was Vanda Kochansky-Devidé (1915-1990). Here's part of the biography, talks a lot about her career but does not mention when she became full member of JAZU. This article says she "became an academician" in 1966. Radi se o fotografiji uz članak koji sam radila Van Bod. Inače Vladimir je moj osobni prijatelj, i fotografiju koju sam stavila je iz njegovog osobnog arhiva. Istu sam fotku stavila uz njegov članak na hr.wiki i još nije obrisana, iako, istina, tamo sam stavila odobrenje koje mi je poslao da dopušta da se koriste informacije i fotke s njegove web stranice. Ali problem je u tome što se ta fotka ne nalazi na njegovoj stranici, pa imam dopuštenje staviti bilo koju drugu koja se nalazi na njoj. Absolutely. I think I saw this list just the other day and thought it was a nice candidate. (So is perhaps Protected areas of Croatia, for example, even if it's a bit thin at the moment.) Fairly limited scope, but still not quite so easy to get into FL shape. It's on my watchlist now.

FLC review is indeed slow. I happened to notice that the number of FLs was growing very slowly over the last 6 months, and now I can see why. But there you have it, I just hope it will go to FL eventually. GregorB (talk) 07:29, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

I started making a draft of Croatian World Heritage sites in my sandbox. Feel free to drop by and improve it. It needs considerable work, especially with descriptions of tentative sites. I don't know whether it should include a third table for intangible heritage. Also, I copied the format from the Madagascar list but later I saw Peru and Cuba and Spain (all three are FLs) which employ a bit different formatting, with tentative sites presented in bulleted lists, without pictures (maybe that's a good thing because I'm having trouble finding images for some of them and some of the ones already there are a bit substandard). Wonderful! It really improves the article to have some images! I do have some photos of Job's work (Kameni Stol, Moj Dom u Supetru, and Komiza) taken at the Gallery in Split last month, would it be OK to upload those? Is there some formality about contacting the gallery for permission? I would hope that they'd be pleased to get the extra publicity! I also have some photos of works by some of the other artists, would need to check when they died.

Nikola Tesla

Hello Gregor, with regard of the recent reverting at Tesla´s article, I beleave that you shouldn´t have reverted without participating in the discussion. You may be right, however rather than an short explanation at your edit summary of your revert it would have been more appropriate to discuss it at the talk page where the discussion was opened since yesterday. Honestly, I found that the language only became official as Serbo-Croatian in 1945 (and Tesla died two years earlier), so I really supose that Tesla was probably fluent in both Serbian and Croatian, but is it right to name it Serbo-Croatian for his life time period? Hi! I was wondering should SMS Szent István and SMS Viribus Unitis be included in scope of WP Croatia, since the former is a part of heritage protected by Croatian Ministry of Culture and the latter was briefly a part of State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs navy?--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:43, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

I agree with you. SMS Szent István was of course a ship of Austria-Hungary navy, but it is now a piece of protected heritage in Croatia - a parallel may be drawn with say, Diocletian's Palace which was built well before Croats or Croatia existed, yet it is now a protected heritage site in Croatia and consequently a in scope of WP Croatia. SMS Viribus Unitis was a part of State of SHS navy and a part of Croatian maritime history, thus IMHO having at least two valid reasons to include it in the WP Croatia scope. Finally, I believe WP Croatia could enhance the two articles using Croatian sources (Vjesnik or other) thus justifying inclusion of the two in scope of the project. RIGHT!!!!! And she had to represent Germany!! Bosnia wasn't good enough for her!!! We should strip her of her diacritic for that purpose! If she wants it back she should have to earn it! :)

Seriously, I know what you mean about NG and its preferences for authentic forms. This German representation is really the elephant in the room. I think there may be a different way of writing every name in every language. On this issue, how is it in English!! WP:RS as you know is the deciding factor in any "who done what?" issue. For names, it is more complicated. Don't get me wrong, there is no hidden jingoism with me. I too accept that there are times that a diacritic and original name standard has to be altered, and this is when there is evidence that the language has already adopted its new forms. To be honest, that normally begins when the subject localised his own name and it then becomes fosilised in the target language's speech/writing system. Take parody singer Wierd Al, his name Yankovic (Serb father) would most definitely have been Janković at one time. The switch to /Y/ was probably a family measure to stop people pronouncing it /dž/. But the very thing happened with the last letter of his name which, without the diacritic, has given the American nation to refer to /Yan-ko-VICK/ (a /k/ sound). With sports stars, this is not the case. I don't oppose the fact that we refer to reliable sources but the sources need only be used for the information drawn from them. Unlike NG, the journals that report on sports matters fully ignore diacritics for all people of all backgrounds. Will the defenders of the status quo push for Vedran Ćorluka to be moved? Probably not. But no English source commenting on his performance will use a diacritic unless it does so when switching to tennis and writing about Andrea Petković or Ivo Karlović. This is my point! I won't add what you said to the section as I don't wish to overload it, those arguing against need to return and read what has been added and then I shall slowly introduce this thought about synthesised/simplified text. If they carry on pointing to the sources as though everything revolves around them including name forms, I'll remind them that when Đoković won at Wimbledon, the match was attended by Serbian president Boris Tadić and other tennis names such as Slobodan Živojinović. The journals listed by Absconded Northerner all reported this, if they left out diacritics for the politician then perhaps we can move him to Tadic. It goes full circle here. Port of Rijeka

Hi! I recently created the Port of Rijeka article and found myself facing a dilemma: The infobox provides for financial data such as annual revenue and profit of the operator. Since the Port of Rijeka has three operators this is slightly complicated. Luka Rijeka d.d. publishes its financial statements with the ZSE so that's simple, but JANAF data do not include any info on business divisions (Omišalj terminal in this case) rather only the summary figures. The third operator Jadranska vrata was a 100% owned subsidiary of Luka Rijeka and thus included in the consolidated report of the latter. Would it be better to include LR+JANAF data in the infobox or leave things as they are now (only LR data) with a note that this pertains to Luka Rijeka only? I think LR+Jadranska vrata figures should be compounded as JV is a wholly owned subsidiary but JANAF should be listed separately as it is a different company altogether and their stats would belong into their article. Thanks for the feedback. As you noted the JV is (actually was) 100% owned by LR so 2009/10 LR figures (consolidated) include JV. As of 2012, JV/AGCT shall report separately, but even then both LR and JV shall make all their revenue and profit in the Port of Rijeka (i.e. entity administered by the Port of Rijeka Authority). The problem with JANAF is that their revenue is collected in the port and elsewhere making the data not readily applicable to the port. At any rate, the article specifies all individual concessionaire revenues separately and infobox now presents only the LR/JV consolidated report data. The note you mentioned has a merit and I'll include that to explain this conundrum.--Tomobe03 (talk) 16:02, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Let me offer my 2 cents here... I'd say that, unless a business entity actually releases consolidated reports, it is not quite right (i.e. it may verge on WP:OR) to simply add up the figures. We apparently agree then: LR figures from the consolidated report, plus a note that explains that there's also JANAF.

Article assessment

Hi! I saw your note regarding assessment of the Franjo Mihalić and Sandra Perković. Since WP:Croatia has no published quality scale, I assume those would be equal or very similar to other country portals and therefore took Wikipedia:WikiProject England/Assessment for reference, since that page offers some additional details. The page contains 6 B-class criteria and to be honest, after looking at the Sandra Perković article, I feel that the article fails B3 criterion as the lead of the article does not conform to WP:LEAD - specifically, the article is short enough circa 6,000 characters to warrant a single paragraph lead, but the lead does not quite summarize the entire article.

I wouldn't mind assessing the articles (if the above mentioned quality scale is applicable, otherwise I have nothing to measure the articles against), but I thought to tell you this before any assessment is made.--Tomobe03 (talk) 21:54, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

I agree with you that the doping issue should not be the main point or that it should set the tone for the lead. However, that is a significant piece of information and I believe it should be included - in a proper context and with proper measure, just as her junior career competition results (or one of them, say the 2009 championship gold medal) should be there along with selection of senior career results, records etc. At any rate I believe a single sentence on the doping affair and another on the junior career would suffice, along with maybe two on the senior career results (some of which is already there).--Tomobe03 (talk) 14:55, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Budding in again, only because I just removed the image of the 1000 kn banknote from Ante Starčević yesterday following the same reasoning. As per point 3 of WP:NFCI pictures of currency are not to be used for illustrating articles about their subjects. It's because in my experience Wikipedia has a rather strict policy about images of banknotes (I remember because this was an issue a long time ago in Antun Augustinčić when an image of a Yugoslav dinar note with his sculpture on it was used to illustrate it). If for example one can find the original portrait or a painting which had been used for the banknote than including that image would be fine. But a banknote itself can't be. That is, if we are talking about non-free images (all Croatian currency is non-free apparently because HNB reserves some rights). American currency is considered public domain so for example 50 State Quarters are all used in articles about their subject. Timbouctou (talk) 15:42, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

I seem to remember that one of Croatian banknotes has a "design error": one of the objects is shown mirrored, i.e. left and right side are swapped, and some people publicly complained about this. (Do you guys remember which banknote it was?) Now, if this were true for the 200 kn banknote, the Tvrđa article could not show it, so one could only provide commentary on this in the Croatian kuna article. But this does not make sense to me: the controversy, arguably, is about the banknote, and not about the building, but the building article is the proper place to provide the commentary because the banknote image could be contrasted with, say, a photograph of Tvrđa. Referencing Croatia

Hi! I noticed you marked references in Croatia articles as fine in the to-do list within the Talk:Croatia (hope I make sense) quite a while ago. Timbouctou and I expanded some sections and trimmed down others recently, adding quite a bit new references. Still some paragraphs have no references, but there are no sections with no references at all. Do you think this level of referencing may be passable for a possible WP:GAN? I thought so too. Well, that'll take some effort, but it's not that hard. Much of the work was modeled on Germany (FA) and some on Switzerland and Bulgaria articles (both GA). The lead need also be reworked to summarize the entire article, but on the bright side GAN queue in the "Geography and places" department is relatively short.--Tomobe03 (talk) 15:02, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

A quick question: book citations used in multiple instances and using different page numbers have references to bibliography (e.g. Frucht 2005, p. 422-423). Others, where a single reference (or multiple references to the same page(s) of the book) is made are now found only in references, using the cite book template. Would it be advisable to move those to bibliography or not - I'd rather not do that since that would add more bytes to the article, but I'm wondering if it's necessary for one reason or another. Getting an image

Hi! I'm starting to think about what images to use in Croatia article, and for the time being I placed the Tanais B image to the beginning of the History section. However, I'd really like to use Šopot Inscription image instead - but there's none on the Commons. On the other hands there's one on hr.wiki. Actually, from my experience I believe that the article is somewhat close to GA already. The grammar and the 'storyline' are good, everything is cited with reliable references etc. Imo the article still needs more in the 'club career' paragraph (his seasons with various clubs) and then to summ everything up in the lead.. that should probably do it and then we can put the article for assesment first (Peer review) and see what happens from there.Ratipok (talk) 01:05, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Well, some of the article is spun off from Croatia, some of it is new. Still, there's citation formatting left to be tidied up, at least in the sources cited before 2 November. Yes, that's true. Looking at the Government article and the Outline of Croatia it would seem that the "Judiciary" and the "Local government" sections of the Politics of Croatia might be better off moved to the Government of Croatia.--Tomobe03 (talk) 14:00, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

(The article on Government of Croatia defines its scope as the executive branch. Judiciary should thus either remain in the politics section or have a separate article, covering the constitutional court, supreme court, county courts, etc. Local government also has little to do with the Croatian government per se - its officials are elected in a different set of elections and the PM has no authority over local matters.) I know that the layout described is de facto in place, but the term government actually encompasses all three branches... Maybe there's a way out of this yet: How about taking the Government of Croatia sections 1-3 (powers, current and history - in effect all of the body text) and replacing the "Executive" section of the Politics of Croatia with that content (turning sections into subsections and replacing the term government with executive as appropriate), and finally redirecting the Government of Croatia to Politics of Croatia.--Tomobe03 (talk) 14:23, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Vidim da si pokrenuo brisanje mog clanka Vrhovnik. Interestingly enough, WP:ITN does wonders for article traffic... The article passed nom to the ITN and apparently became the most viewed WP:CRO article yesterday, even though Croatia article received six or seven thousand extra hits since the DYK and ITN appearance, receiving 14k+ hits yesterday. You got a point there and the PDF is great reading. I also feel that many "high visibility" or project-top-importance articles are far below par, while undoubtedly significant amount of effort is expended editing... something. I think not much effort would be necessary to improve the top-importance and the most-viewed articles to at least GA-class - and this was primarily the reason to invest my time into editing top- or high-importance stubs and start-class articles in the WP:CRO hoping to reach the GA. Of course, this could be achieved incrementally, much like a conveyor belt discussed some time ago when discussing the project quality scale. Obvious targets for this improvement are the top/high importance articles, and the WP:CRO/PP top-ranked articles, such as Severina Vučković you already mentioned.

Practical problems in this include need for copyediting (non-native speakers of English among us at least) - and WP:GOCE slowed down considerably once it opened up a FAC copyedit department. For instance, I posted three requests there (maximum allowed) in early and mid December with zero responses so far. Perhaps it would be good to find out if there's a native speaker of English participating in the WP:CRO who's willing to copyedit those WP:CRO articles bound for GA or FA? Furthermore there's sheer volume of research required to tackle 100 or so articles falling into the above categories, but I think the best approach is - one by one. Naturally there'll be similar topics that will allow more efficient sequences of editing: once you cover the parliament and the government, the politics in Croatia article is easy to do... :)

The referendum article is definitely going to GAR, but as I already said, the GOCE is now a bottleneck. I already posted the maximum of three requests there and there are four others going there besides the referendum article... I got an alternative map design in my sandbox - no text this time. I tried to make a map based on code used for states of Germany here but there's simply too many counties packed tightly even in image 450px across, and long county names do not help either. Pandurs

Hi! I just completed referencing of Pandurs and asked WP:MILHIST to review their project's assessment of the article. I'd like to ask you to help with categories of the article: For instance, I'm at loss whether the article belongs to "History of Vojvodina" category just because some pandurs were from eastern Syrmia or not. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure the "History of Romania" and "Oltenia" categories are not warranted, while "Military history of Austria" could probably be justified. Tanais tablets

You cannot be serious in claiming the tablets found in Tanais have anything to do with modern Croats. The personal names of Sarmatian population that supposedly lived there cannot be in any possible way connected with Croatian history. Such comparisons are anachronistic, you can find them in the historiography of 16th or 17th century, based on pure speculation and similarities. As such they imply the existence of (modern) "Croats" in time when nothing similar could have existed. You have to take into account the fact, that no writer of early or late antiquity mentions "Croats" in that environment.

First of all, please note that I'm not "claiming" anything, since I neither wrote the article nor did make any significant contributions to it. I can't even say that I'm particularly interested in it as an editor. However, I do object to edits like these, and other editors seem to agree.

My opinion on the subject does not matter, because it all boils down (or at least should boil down) to what the reliable sources say. Nevertheless: I think that the connection with Croats is very weak and cannot be described as more than speculative, but it is not impossible. It is "impossible". Analog to such claims would be the idea that the ancestors of Persians is the ancient hero Perseus. It is absurd and anachronistic, leading to utterly wrong conclusions. DNA testing will not prove anything that Im completely sure of cause it cannot prove anything except the simple fact, that the population of today's Croatia is a mixed one with plethora of influences.

Croats have 3 theories of origin and no certain year or decade of arrival (sources are unclear). Iranian, Gothic and Slavic one. Two of them came into existence under specific political orientation and pressure: Slavic with the creation of Ilyrism and subsequently Yugoslavia and Gothic with the creation of fascistic NDH. Just like the Gothic one, the Iranian theory must be understood as a diversion from the Slavic theory. I'm out of my depth here... The Iranian theory is unusually popular in nationalist circles not because it's convincing, but because it strikes a chord ("We Fooians are not like everyone else, we are unique" - a perennial trope). Taken to extreme ("Croats are not Slavs"), it is totally absurd. In the end, it just might turn out that the Iranian and Slavic theory are compatible in at least some aspects.

If you're interested in this subject as well as improving this article and also Theories on the origin of Croats (which is fact the main article on this subject), I can start a request for comment. Thanks! Yes it appears that once one gets a hang of that, writing articles is not so difficult. Considering a GA review drive that just got underway I hope to get eight or so additional articles reviewed. Link rot starts to worry me though, since some relatively recently created articles needed updating, such as in case of Croatian independence referendum, 1991 which just became a GAN. I think I'll get around to creating WebCite archives of some GAs when GAN queue clears up. Link rot is the primary route to delisting, so I think that would be a worthwhile effort - that should not take that much effort as finding sources anew. A sourced sentence was deleted without offering an alternative ("I have a reference" does not count), which is unacceptable, and that's why I reverted. I don't care one way or the other as long as the information is sourced. This was perfectly legitimate, so being called an "Ustasha propaganda spreader" is also unacceptable. As I posted below I couldn't help noticing this and took some time to think about these issues (the first three at least) in terms of WP Croatia. The first one is of course not a real issue for WP:CRO in great part thanks to you and other editors who took time and effort to assess articles. I have nothing substantial to add to the second issue reply offered already, but in terms of the third one - maybe one: WP:CRO has about 100 B-class articles, but a substantial portion of those do not actually meet all six criteria (per Wikipedia:BCLASS) and that may actually be a problem for two reasons:

• Quality of the specific articles is improperly tagged - which is of a secondary importance overall
• B-class implies a relatively high degree of development of an article, which may discourage new editors from tackling those. This may be significant, since B-class articles tend to cover interesting topics which might draw new editors to participate in a given project - which is IMO much more important here

I was thinking of proposing a campaign (or a drive as such things tend to be called on wiki) to reassess quality of the B-class articles and demote those better deserving lower (presumably C-class) rating. This is not meant as a means of putting down involved editors, but as a route which would allow improvement of the same to full compliance with the B-class (or better - in my experience a B-class article is a WP:LEAD compliant lead and a WP:GOCE copyedit, in that order, away from GA-class). Of course, if a given article warrants reassessment from B to C-class, a to-do list should be made by the reviewer specifying what exactly need be done to meet specific B-class criteria and appropriate maintenance tags should be added. The same advice could be offered to WP:Serbia, of course. What do you think? Should this be discussed first at the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Croatia?--Tomobe03 (talk) 11:58, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

I concur. I'd prefer starting focused on current B-class only as that's "just" 100 or so entries, but I agree that there's virtually no difference in approach regardless of the specific article reassessed being C or B-class. The incremental approach would allow a more easily achievable objective and perhaps draw more help for the four times the size drive (C-class). At any rate, I'd apply WP:BCLASS fairly rigidly because in areas other than comprehensiveness of the article those are fairly straightforward to fix (may require work, i.e. referencing, though) but those would really offer good pointers on how to improve those articles. Lax interpretation would be a nice pat on the back but of no help on the road to featured or good content. Of course, a specific, itemized and clear to-do list would be essential for any article reassessed or confirmed as C-class, otherwise all that work would be fairly pointless - it should be about identifying how to improve and grow.--Tomobe03 (talk) 13:53, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

While prose is understandably preferable for wikipedia, the bullet points, in the article, are essentially dividers for highlights that are thoroughly expressed in prose format. The bullets serve as a tidy transition of prose. Without the bullets, additional (and otherwise unnecessary) prose will need to be added to untangle a potentially ensuing mess (each prose-like bullet is independent of the other bullets). Done that one too - I suspected a factual mistake in the prose and apparently there was one: V was born in "Sveti Petar" and that toponym somehow transformed into Ličko Petrovo Selo, possibly because there was no Sveti Petar on the map of Lika to be found. However, that particular site is now known as a collection of villages around and including Bruvno. I think I have nothing further to add on the topic. Well, Wikipedia:BCLASS has six criteria instead of WP:MILHIST's five - the difference being B6 criterion, in essence requiring that the B-class articles conform to Wikipedia:TECHNICAL. I suspect that particular criterion is not that much to ask for and should be required. Besides, I suspect that most of the current WP:CRO B-class (and C-class for that matter) articles are not that much concerned with complex technical, scientific or otherwise complicated matters, and that the B6 requirement will largely be met as it is. - So yes, I'd accept it for those few that remain.--Tomobe03 (talk) 17:29, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

On a further note - the holistic approach, IMO, might work fine for C-class/Start-class distinction, simply because of sheer number of the two classes and scale of work needed to turn a Start-class into a B-class article. On the other hand, a B-class article is basically a C-class one with certain elements covered and should be treated as such, especially because that allows establishing of a conveyor belt spanning C-class articles (checked against B-class criteria) to B-class and WP:GAN. In itself the conveyor belt should be sufficient for most editors willing to do some work, but not prepared to spend time thinking about what need be done to a particular article, to contribute efficiently towards tangible improvement of the project material - both in terms of picking up a C-class article and ticking off some (or all) of the items on the to-do list (either one provided in the talk or at the very least in terms of fulfillment of the B-class criteria) and in terms of picking up a B-class article, fixing linkrot, tying loose ends (lead, MOS issues, etc) and submitting a GAN.--Tomobe03 (talk) 17:41, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Regarding B6 - it does not just guard from overly technical content. To me, "written with as broad an audience in mind as possible" means - in our particular case - that an average Wikipedia user with no specific knowledge about Croatia and the Croats will be able to understand the context of the article and extract useful information (ideally, even insight) from it. For example, a well-written article on a historical topic will have a "Background" section where necessary, rather than just springing right off into details of the event. I don't think too many WP Croatia articles have that problem, but checking against it where appropriate can't hurt.

I'd support the 6-item checklist. I don't think there's anything in WP:Assessment I wouldn't agree with.

I feel that both Wikipedia and this project are becoming less and less about building from the ground up (even if there is still plenty of room for that, particularly for us), and more and more about incremental improvements across the board. GregorB (talk) 22:19, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Tried my hand at Zagreb - and found myself facing a conundrum. Look at this description of the museum (the first two sentences at least) and the same are used in the article indicating clear copyvio. The same situation applies to some other museum descriptions, but not to all of them. What to do? If it were the whole section, I'd tag it as copyvio section, but I don't know if that can be done piecemeal or not, or if the section as a whole should be tagged after all. The latter seems reputable, but it is not dated, and the first instance of a bit of that particular material in the article dates back to April 2004 (diff). I need advice about an editing. Maybe you've heard, I accidentally found it, that municipal authorities in Gvozd made decision to re-rename village and to return name Vrginmost.
