R243 road (Ireland) etc edit

Hallo, I see you've created quite a few stubs on these Rnnn roads in Ireland. Please don't add {{stub}} as well as the more specific {{Ireland-road-stub}} - it's not necessary and wastes the time of people who sort stubs. But thanks for adding the specific template! Please also think about adding redirects from terms like R243 and R243 road (I've created those two): they'll help readers or other editors to find the articles. I don't know whether they ought to be added to List of highways numbered 243 etc - there may be some policy about that within the Roads project, and I'm not an expert in the area. Happy Editing! Copyright issues in Bealin High Cross edit

Material needs to be written in your own words. Some of your additions are far too close to the original.

For example, compare:

Source[1] Bealin High Cross
On the North face is a hunting scene showing a horseman with a spear and above him a dog biting a deer's leg. On the North face is a hunting scene showing a horseman with a spear and above him a dog biting a deer's leg.

That phrase is short enough that it could be included as a quote. Or it could be rewritten, but you cannot include it as is, even when referenced.

References

  1. ^ "Irish High Crosses".

--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:22, 10 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

I've also noticed that in your article on Inchcleraun you use the exact phrase "repeatedly plundered and burned by invaders" which is copied directly from the source. I've seen a lot of good stuff from you and know you can contribute useful material to Wikipedia - but please be careful to use your own words or explicitly attribute direct quotes.
I think it would be a good idea for you to try to use more professional sources, in particular academic histories and textbooks, and not tourist guides like ChooseIreland where the author's expertise is not certain. This is really not that hard, as Google Books can often get relevant information. For instance, for the Bealin High Cross article, I was able to quickly find textbooks like this, this and this, that I'm sure would be more trustworthy sources to use. This site can instantly convert these into citations - all you have to fill in is the number of the last page you need to cite. Blythwood (talk) 19:16, 10 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Tipperary Excel edit

The article Tipperary Excel has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not state why the theater is notable in any way, and the sources are closely related to the subject.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Killeen Church - Close paraphrasing edit

Hey Debbiesw. I was just reviewing your article Killeen Church. The article is pretty interesting. Thanks for the nice infobox as well! There was just one problem which was the close paraphrasing in a couple of sentences. For example. The present church was built by Sir Christopher Plunkett (c. 1370 – c. 1445), a grandson of Sir Richard Plunkett of Rathregan, in the earlier part of the 15th century. In 1403 Sir Christopher married Joan, the daughter and heiress of Sir Lucas Cusack, and became lord of Killeen. Sir Christopher and Lady Joan established a chantry within the parish church to pray for their souls in 1431. This text is what we call, close paraphrasing (See WP:CLOP) as it seems some selected sentences seem to have been copied almost verbatim from the source. I have tagged the article accordingly and I will see if I can help fix it later. If you don't mind, could you help to fix it as well? You can simply rephrase the sentences yourself. Thank you. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 01:43, 26 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Marine molluscs of Ireland edit

Greetings Debbiesw I made a start with List of marine molluscs of Ireland and will fix the further lists List of marine molluscs of Ireland (Gastropoda) and List of marine molluscs of Ireland (Bivalvia) over the next weeks as well as the refs and links. I may write an intro later (history of marine lists , importance etc.). Would you take a look - style to match your (excellent and nicely laid out) lists add pics and so on if you have time. The Irish marine fauna since we are close to the abyssal is very important so I would like to do it justice. Nahed Hattar edit

Hi. I see you added DMG and IPA in this article.

Could you tell me how you determined that it is Nāhaḍ and not Nāhiḍ? If you check LCCN, ISNI, GND and SUDOC they all give Nāhiḍ (GND also gives Nāhaḍ but as an alternative).

I wonder how to determine this sound as it is not represented by any letter in the Arabic language name because it is short vowel (a, i or u in DMG). If it is Nāhiḍ, English article name would change to Nahid Hattar etc. --Obsuser (talk) 04:22, 27 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

yes, my mistake. Generally e = a but here e = i. Debbiesw (talk) 11:44, 27 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Then why is title Nahed Hattar (and why all media used this name) and not Nahid Hattar? Is this answer? Still don't know where ʕ (that you put after both name and surname) came from... --Obsuser (talk) 17:49, 27 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
The spelling Nahed is used for Jordanian Arabic pronunciation. The symbol is a voiced pharyngeal fricative - see article on Jordanian Arabic Debbiesw (talk) 21:42, 27 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Painting image and other questions edit

I'm pretty sure you did not actually paint File:Host desecration, painting, Barcelona.jpg, unless you are several hundred years old, so you cannot claim to be the author, just the photographer. Did you photograph it at a museum? If so, you need to state who the painter is, the name of the painting (unless what you named it is the actual title but maybe being Spanish the title may be in Spanish), when it was painted and if there is an online link please provide it.

BTW, I have tagged several of you images with {{copy to commons}} because they will then be available for other editors on other language wikis to use seeing as they are freely licensed. Also {{GDFL}} is an imperfect tag for images as it generally applies to software and has some rather onerous requirements. I would avoid it and just use one of the acceptable Creative Commons tags. They should really all be transferred to the commons unless they are non-free images.

One more thing. I like the fact that you have been very prolific at creating Irish archeology site articles and wonder if you have enough information to expand on the start I made for Brussellstown Ring that I started here: User:Ww2censor/Brussellstown Ring. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 00:11, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Category:Roman Catholic cemeteries in the Republic of Ireland edit

Hi. On this category. Can I ask what the intended scope/inclusion-criteria is? I see that we've added several cemeteries to it which are neither exclusively nor nominally "Catholic". Glasnevin for example is non-denominational. Famously so. Or at least to my understanding. So not sure why we're categorising it as something else. Yes, Catholics are buried here - but so are those of other faiths. And none. Ditto St Kevins and others. Catholicism/Protestantism were not "invented" when the first medieval burials occured there. What is the expected inclusion criteria for this category? That the cemetery is "Catholic" (as the name implies)? Or that those buried there include Catholics (in which case perhaps it should be renamed). Guliolopez (talk) 13:09, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I intended it for all such cemeteries, but yes, maybe it should only cover Catholic-only cemeteries Debbiesw (talk) 13:11, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
OK. Thanks. I'd recommend using it judiciously. Only for those which are nominally or exclusively "Catholic". Otherwise it'll cause confusion and skirt controversy. As these things tend to do. In this part of the world. And this part of the internet. I'd recommend adding an "inclusion criteria" note to the category entry itself. So there's clear inclusion criteria. That other editors will understand. Guliolopez (talk) 14:14, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ireland at the 2018 Winter Olympics edit

Usually these pages are only for athletes that have actually qualified, (Ireland has qualified at least 1 male and 1 female downhill skier) but I don't really care. The problem is the details of the curlers, there is no olympic qualification tournament for the mixed doubles. I am not sure what you are trying to express there.18abruce (talk) 00:21, 7 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

According to Curling at the 2018 Winter Olympics – Qualification there is, it's based on the 2016 and 2017 world championships. Debbiesw (talk) 23:12, 7 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Olympic qualification is based on the results of the 2016 and 2017 world championships, that is true. The problem is that you wrote that, they "are competing for Ireland in the qualification tournament in the mixed doubles section." By saying "the qualification tournament" did you mean the 2017 world championship? And if so, the sources do not validate that, in fact the Irish representative has not been determined yet.18abruce (talk) 23:37, 7 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Cork-V-Dublin-2015-All-Ireland-Ladies-Football.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Cork-V-Dublin-2015-All-Ireland-Ladies-Football.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Vanjagenije (talk) 22:27, 16 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 15:13, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Flag of the Commissioners of Irish Lights.gif edit

Thank you for uploading File:Flag of the Commissioners of Irish Lights.gif.

Thank you. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Colours of GMIT.png edit

The file File:Colours of GMIT.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused. Superseded by c:File:Colours of GMIT.svg.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 08:16, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with File:Ruston & Hornsby badge.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Ruston & Hornsby badge.jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. — Ирука13 12:40, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
