Nomination of Business Initiative Directions for deletion or helpEdit

Help please with Business Initiative Directions entry/article. Hi Edward,

First of all sorry if I'm writing in the wrong place and sorry for my poor English (I'm not an English native speaker) I write to you because you wrote me back, and I have not been able to contact with someone else inside Wikipedia. Neither I understand the way this website works... I find no chat boxes nor anything. I must confess I'm and old man, and perhaps because of that I found this site incredible hostile. I write to you because since august someone posted an entry on Business Initiative Directions. Its a Spanish marketing agency that sells different products and services (I have no economic relation with them, except for the fact that the owner is an old friend and an old man like I) I want to be clear on the fact that yes, I know this company, and yes, 30 years ago (or more I don't recall) I worked with them several times. It's a marketing company, but the entry accuse them of selling "fake awards". They don't sell awards at all. They do advertising and corporate events. In their events they charge a fee, this is no secret, neither is illegal in anyway. They have 50 years operating inside Spain and now inside the European Union legal framework. Their HQ is located behind the Ministry of Defense in Madrid... every soul there knows them. They offer international business gatherings, and charge a fee for that (among other things more related to traditional marketing, like flyers, magazines and banners... they don't do digital because most of them are old people that don't even have social media) This article is destroying them... based on nothing at all but the opinion of a company that got the invitation to the event and got mad because they wanted to go to an business convention in Paris for free... this people then wrote to a so called NGO that decided to wage war on this small Spanish marketing agency. They created the Wikipedia post and used all the bad press against the company to destroy their prestige...everybody has bad press... this is not fair, neither I humbly believe, was the idea behind Wikipedia. I think Wikipedia was meant to be an encyclopedia for humanity. Not a corporate revenge instrument. Please, help us and guide us on how to deal with this. My friend is asking me if their version of the post could be taken into consideration. All complains of the NGO are addressed there, and even a mixed version will be acceptable for them, but what is cruel and brutal for this company reputation is to post only the NGO version... that is not fair.

A demo wiki is up and running!

Dear members of WikiProject Genealogy, this will be the last newsletter for 2017, but maybe the most important one!

You can already now try out the demo for a genealogy wiki at https://tools.wmflabs.org/genealogy/wiki/Main_Page and try out the functions. You will find parts of the 18th Pharao dynasty and other records submitted by the 7 first users, and it would be great if you would add some records.

And with those great news we want to wish you a creative New Year 2018!

About the Everette Taylor articleEdit

Hi, I am writing concerning the UPE tag on the Everette Taylor article. I wish to remove it as I have actively edited the page, adding info and citations and I didn't collect a dime for my edits, I don't want my reputation smeared over some other editor's mistake. I hope my work on the page is adequate enough for you to consider taking off the banner. Thanks

Majid Al Futtaim : "too promotionnal issues"Edit

Information are directly extracted from regional media sources but also from the US (e.g CNN, Bloomberg). Since the beginning of my intervention on this page (but also before if I am right), several sections have been taken off because they were "too promotional".

In most of the cases, my interventions are objective bullet points, they are simply presenting and don't have any subjective elements. It is simply not consistent and coherent to systematically remove them. They respect the rules of Wikipedia. Shall I request third parties to step in in order to validate the extracts in question ?

Ryszard JurkowskiEdit

Good morning,

Could you please add the 20th-century architects category to the Ryszard Jurkowski article?

--Pysiatko (talk) 07:31, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

Thank you, Pysiatko. I see you have added it already! I have just added "Category:21st-century architects" as Ryszard Jurkowski has been active in both centuries. Edwardx (talk) 12:38, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

Looks fine by me. Over the years, I have come to the view that every name in such lists should have an inline citation. However, I think you may have meant to contact EdwardUK, as they are the one who has been editing Hallam FM, not me, even if I am an Edward and live in the UK. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face. Damm. Sorry about that, and thanks for taking a look. I see your name regularly, and didn't pay attention. Nothing new there I suppose. -Roxy, the dog. wooF 13:51, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
It is nice to have one's editing noticed. Unless it is someone starting a thread about you at ANI, I suppose. Seen you about too, so there is likely some overlap in our interests. Edwardx (talk) 14:10, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

Ryoichi Hirano moved to draftspaceEdit

This article, Ryoichi Hirano, created on 16 August 2016, does not have enough content as written to remain published. It needs more content from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved this article to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the title) where you can incubate the draft article with minimal disruption. When you feel this draft article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Re: Bryna KraEdit

In your opinion, is this notice of the American Mathematical Society a reliable source for the full date of birth and place of birth? And if so, could you please edit the article accordingly? I won't touch that biography anymore. --bender235 (talk) 16:03, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

I'm not sure why you're ignoring this issue now after you got involved on BLP/N. There you wrote: "If the full date of birth is used in reliable secondary sources, then it is generally okay for us to use it." Is that the case now? If not, why? --bender235 (talk) 15:08, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
Bender235 I am sympathetic to your frustration on this matter, but was putting off reading the whole long discussion. Have now posted a detailed reply on the BLP talkpage. Edwardx (talk) 00:34, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. And I want to apologize if I appeared to badger you with this minor issue. In the end, we are all working to improve Wikipedia. --bender235 (talk) 00:51, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
That's fine, Bender235. It may be minor for just one article, but the whole date of birth issue is a big one bearing in mind how many BLP articles we have. Edwardx (talk) 02:14, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Indeed. That's why I tried to suggest an improvement to the vague wording of WP:DOB (terms like "widely published", "borderline-notable" are not used in any other Wikipedia policy, let alone defined anywhere). But my proposal was met with a backlash, to say the least. It appears there is a certain missionary zeal on one side of this debate, to a point where it doesn't matter whether the means (censoring information that is readily available elsewhere) actually achieve the goal (prevent identity theft). It's a hopeless case trying to change this policy now as it was in 2006. I merely intended to clarify our policies, and people are reacting as if I propose to turn Wikipedia into a bulletin board for social security numbers. --bender235 (talk) 02:30, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Bender235, have you considered Wikipedia:Requests for comment? There is always going to be a tension between transparency and privacy, not just on Wikipedia. How we balance these often competing concepts will continue to evolve in democracies. You should find this current AfD debate interesting, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of celebrities who have had an abortion (of course, the list should be "women" or "people", not "celebrities"). Edwardx (talk) 11:20, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
As a matter of fact, I started a RfC. The reaction, so far, was pretty much an outrage. --bender235 (talk) 14:50, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
See, it got to a point were I'm being templated to caution my "controversial behavior," as the notion now seems to be that somehow over 15 years and 450,000 edits on Wikipedia I failed to acknowledge our policies. This is insane. --bender235 (talk) 15:07, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Article: Ryszard JurkowskiEdit

Good morning, I have a general question about the copyrights of the photos to this article. We do have them, but every now and again someone designates them for deleting. It already happened, even though there was a clear message they were awaiting the approval of the OTRS team. Many of these photos have previously been published, but Ryszard Jurkowski is the main copyright holder, as it was him who commissioned and paid the photographers to take these photos and it was him who authorised the magazine and journal publishers to use them. In the article there isn't a single photo of Jurkowski's most important project (the Home Army Museum) because they all have been deleted and, although his practice (AiR Jurkowscy Architekci) contacted the OTRS team a couple of times about this issue, 6 months on and no one responded to these emails. What is the best thing to do in this situation? Because if it continues we'll soon be rid of all the photos, and it's actually quite upsetting.   --Pysiatko (talk) 03:15, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

University of CambodiaEdit

Hi I would like to kindly ask why you keep marking the university of Cambodia’s page as an advertisement. I have written it objectively and used a neutral tone (or strived to). Can you please let me know why you keep marking it as such? Thank you! TravisM416 (talk) 12:11, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

COI issues? I have none?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kramarquez (talkcontribs) 13:19, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Thank you Kramarquez. I have just started Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#University_of_Cambodia, which you should read. Edwardx (talk) 13:36, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Why would I have an alternate account? I have always made all my edits public under my username. I have no idea who the other account is. I also do not have a conflict of interest which is why I did not respond to the question as it didn’t relate to the situation. I’m trying to clean up this article and have the text be appropriate. I’ve deleted over half of it and would honestly like it to be done, so can you kindly point to the paragraph that is giving you trouble? Instead of just saying it’s excessive, I would greatly appreciate something concrete. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by TravisM416 (talkcontribs) 13:41, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Thank you, TravisM416. You need to respond to all of those issues at Talk:University of Cambodia, Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#University_of_Cambodia and User talk:TravisM416, as appropriate. Edwardx (talk) 14:02, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Edwardx Thank you for your information. I have responded in the other places. Hope this helps clear things up! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by TravisM416 (talkcontribs) 02:40, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Thank you again, TravisM416. Are you not employed by the University of Cambodia? You should declare your conflict of interest. Edwardx (talk) 10:07, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Edwardx Hi I'm really not sure why you just keep pointing out that it's written like an advertisement and it's too excessive, but then you won't tell me which parts. I really would love to solve it and I want you to be happy with it as well. Instead, you won't give me any specific information so it's quite confusing. Please let me know what exactly I can do so you dont have to hear from me anymore :) Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by TravisM416 (talkcontribs) 10:50, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Edwardx And now I have the same question about Kao Kim Hourn's page. It's very neutral and sticks to the facts with sources. Can you kindly tell me which lines are promotional so that I can rectify it? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by TravisM416 (talkcontribs) 10:56, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Edwardx Hi, so I have edited the page drastically and tried to comply with everything. I thought I had removed any bit of excessive information or promotional material, and then I waited for anyone to comment on the page for several days or add to the discussion. Can you please tell me why you put back on the tags so I can fix it? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.235.247.161 (talk) 12:07, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
