You are quite a brilliant editor. I always have a hard time finding anything you didn't mention! I was about to add a bit about antelopes and some info from my Bradt Guide to Benin which I have personally and you managed to add info from both!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:00, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes I will do that shortly and see if I can find some additional sources. One article which might interest you is Archaeology of Jordan.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:11, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

I'll request some images of Riparian forest in Benin on flickr perhaps. Are you interested in doing some more wildlife articles on the African series? Its a very important subject African wildlife but poorly covered at the moment..♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:17, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Wildlife of Benin double hook

edit

Hello, I have suggested double hook for Template talk:Did you know#Wildlife of Benin. --Snek01 (talk) 18:45, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Seems to be too late now, its in preperation area.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:50, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

I've made a start on User:Nvvchar/Loire River. Its listed under our core articles. See this source for starters. I've added some info form there but you'll find a lot more in it on physiography and wildlife in particular. http://www.westernfrancetouristboard.com/loire.html has info on summaries on main towns along the river.. There should be masses of sources on it and of course loads to write about with the major towns and chateaus and vineyards along the river... See this masses of info on history, architecture and culture... I feel that this particular article cannot be rushed and can be an ongoing collaboration over some weeks amidst our other work..♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:03, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

The DYK project (nominate) 08:02, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

If you are wondering what is the matter, You see this?. Prepared for GA and nominated. Not only completely reverted, my GA nomination reverted and page locked to prevent my version going through and being promoted because Giano is more important that wikipedia's GA and FA content. Seem right to you? Is this a complete miscarriage of justice and a perfect example of the mess wikipedia administration is in with such extreme double standards? Until the adminstrators sort this out properly and admit that Giano cannot have a right to impede GA progress I refuse to edit wikipedia.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:49, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

I guess some people are actually homosexual on here it seems, but my "bum chum" remark to the reverters who stacked votes against my edits was intended to refer to "multiple editors ganging up to bend the rules and support a revered individual rather than sticking to formal policy". This is exactly what happened here and at the admin noticeboard. If not a single adminstrator can take a neutral stance and not care about their reputation and position within the "group" and their popularity and stand up for content and see what happened here is so wrong and that is is damaging to our proportion of recognized content then it is extremely concerning. I am not happy to let it pass when I am 90% sure that the article would have passed GA. As it is they've locked it so the old version stands. Very disappointing indeed that one individual is regarded as more important that actual move towards recognized content. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:25, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

I've explained that I'm far from being a racist anyway, which is why I try to cover the world and different cultures fairly. Issue currently seems settled although I fear there may still be some difficulties in the future around it. I will edit the Botswana article now , sorry for the delay, but as you can see a situation exploded and arose of a quite unlikely situation of adding a map in good faith!.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:24, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

As usual very comprehensive, tough to find anything missing in what we have online I added what I could find. Pin Map isn't showing still. Coordinates still wrong order I think, needs to be fixed before nomming.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:52, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, when somebody unlocks it I fear that it'll break out again if it is reverted back. I really hope that by then it will have died down and they'll at least see the benefits of my version and build upon that. I hate having my work and time wasted, you're probably the same. Occaisonally you encounter these people, like the St. Barts article, very unfortunate. I've begun a translation of Tomb of Akhethetep which I hope you find very interesting, I'll try and find some sources to back up the translation. Best wishes ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:35, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

14 April today!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:02, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Mmm, I found a relief in the Brooklyn museum of New York which dates back to 2650BC, older than 2400BC. at here. Mmmm lets see what most sources say. I'm pretty sure 2400BC is right, your dates seem correct.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:07, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Royal Palaces of Abomey

edit

Interesting choice. A good source is located here. You may find something for Csóványos to scrape over the mark. Also I have started Anthoceros laevis needs more text, could be a double hook. Theâtre de l'Étoile du Nord also needs a bit if you can find anything.. If not I've started Avenue Habib Bourguiba which is start class already but could be made a lot more comprehensive. There are also some very important buildings like the white municipal theatre and cathedral which we could probably do a triple hook for, there is also a notable statue and that. Its like the heart of Tunisia. That should be plenty now!! Will resume then with more wildlife africa.. I promise I won't pile any more!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:25, 16 April 2011 (UTC)♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:37, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

I have nominated it and several of the others. Can you find some more for Baltieji Lakajai? I've also made a good start on Mining in Tajikistan of which could be made much more comprehensive.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:30, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

I don't follow. What limit? Those article were created in the mainspace first weren't they?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:28, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

What limit? Please respond. For the mining article there is public domain text here which can simply be copied and edited into the article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:56, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

I see. I'll admit I personally would rather work on articles in the mainspace. But yes I've been particularly prolific the last few days , sorry to have so many articles on the go. But I don't always feel like writing a lot and usually like today and Sunday it would give you the chance at least to attend to some of them when I was less active. I have for instance an article on a Kosovan monastery at start class boundary but I haven't told you as I know it would be too much for you at the moment. I'm cleaning up and sourcing an unrelated article at the moment and cleaning up some Bosnian munciipalities so you should have time to catch up! I've done the bulk of the work needs for the articles I linked you anyway, not much required for each... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:43, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

I will continue with my translation of Barranquilla tomorrow. Its not for DYK just needed to be done. So that gives you another day to catch up! The Kosovo monastery was Zočište Monastery BTW which you might be interested in over the next few days.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:14, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

You might be interested in translating the material found on the talk page of Barranquilla into english. Google translate does an exceptionally good job of it, virtually no bad translations so you could probably google translate several sections at a time with only minimal proof work and cleanup needed. Most names though are not to be translated literally e.g Calle 84 and Carrera 53. should not be translated as Street 84 if you see what I mean.Refs can be added from the original, only date needs changing and author= needs changing to publisher= . If its too much for you no worries but I've done about half already, I think it could be done within 4 days if Rosie also helps with the translation. It would be a very comprehensive article on what was once the second largest port city of South America. I will resume with Loire and this for the time being and perhaps an easy going wildife Africa article, no rush though. I think its good to do the occasional big ones like this on very important articles amongst the shorter articles which require less effort.. Sometime I will get Kathmandu and Thimphu up to GA status... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:47, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Really? The vast majority of Spanish translates virtually perfectly on google, except for place names which it has a tendency to translate literally. It also has trouble with history translations I've found which is probably what you tested. Unlike Portuguese which is horrific! Not to worry then. Probably best though I and some of the others do it having an understanding of Spanish. Actually I've already translated about 6/8 of it now. But once done I suspect a lot of the sources are dead links and will need replacing to which I would be grateful if you could assist in that area. It is a very comprehensive article which undoubtedly will be split into multiple interesting articles; it should be condensed at a later date, much like Kathmandu should be after splitting.. Personally I think Kathmandu and Barranquilla are how articles on cities should look, detailed covering most aspects of the city but are probably too long for comfort.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:07, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes that was why I left flora, you see? Maybe you could try transport/public services, it should be easier, if not don't worry about it. I haven't nominated Mining yet as I was hoping Rosie might have some time on here in the next few days to add to it. If she hasn't tomorrow I will nominate it then.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:20, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

I topped off Anthoceros laevis but hope you can take a look and make sure my additions are in the right places within the paragraphs. Also, it is more than ready for nom but I can't think of a hook. Can you? Or I can leave a note on Dr.B's page. Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 03:28, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Will look shortly. I also want to finish the Barranquilla translation today. Can you review somebody else's hook for the mining article?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:54, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

I've nominated Lake Untersee for GA as I think its pretty comprehensive and well written.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:42, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

You may be interested in expanding Llangadfan. Interesting source here. Also Dyfnant Forest, I'm thinking of a double hook. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:45, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

DYK problem for Mining in Tajikistan

Hello! Your submission of Mining in Tajikistan at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! --dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 19:15, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Just a slight issue with the hook ref; I've proposed an ALT1 that should take care of things. Good work on the article. --dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 19:15, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I have accepted your suggestion for the hook.--Nvvchar. 05:24, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Sure, good idea. I was wondering if you could help address the GA review on Lake Untersee, by the looks of it it stands a good chance of passing but those issues needs addressing. It would be great to have a GA on Antarctica. I know you've been put off by GAs because of some failures but I've had a good success rate of late like Mother India, which I'm sure you've seen..♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:22, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Ah yes I have now. Maybe see if we missed anything important in google books or whatever on it just to ensure it is as comprhensive as possible.. I think it should pass. Loire (river) has now been moved into the mainspace. I think though it needs 5-10kb for a full 5 times, although I might be wrong.. If we can find something about river conservation schemes perhaps should suffice. I'll copy edit CAR in a minute and will begin working on another wildlife article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:47, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

I want to work on the Moscow Kremlin sometime. Should be very interesting. What do you think? Maybe we should remove some of the unsourced text from the main article and then expand it in the workspace...♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:18, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

The Kremlin is a building complex, not a city LOL, it contains some fascinating architectural components like this and surely has a massive range of sources on it in books.. . I've added a conservation section to Loire should be about 5 times now. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:00, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Wildlife of Burkina Faso.. Another good one I spotted would be Shea nut and butter production in Burkina Faso which the people call "Women's gold". Read here. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:12, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Hello. Sorry I didn't get to Wildlife of the CAR in time though kudos on a fabulous article. I saw your note from the 22nd, and now, when I'm able to work on it, it's already done. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:56, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Some good sources for shea article here and here.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:31, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

I have started British Colonial Hilton Nassau. You might find a bit more in google books and on the official site. Its a fine colonial building. If you can find info about the Nassau fort which was located there previously we could create it and make it a double. We can also do the Junkanoo article but it might be difficult, we'll see.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:22, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

I have stubbed Nassau Public Library. If you google book search you'll have to add Bahamas on the end so not to confuse with Nassau County library, USA. This building used to be an old jail which you might pick up something about in google books. Yes there is info on the Fort the first one here. I reckon we can piece together an article on the Old Fort of Nassau but extra caution will be needed to avoid confusing with other forts of the same name and other forts in Nassau like Fort Charlotte. OK this is what we'll do then, a hook DYK that the British Colonial Hilton Nassau is located on the site of the Old Fort of Nassau. In regards to Burkina Faso I'm thinking of DYK of a hook which will include the Wildlife of, the Shea production and an article on Cotton production in Burkina Faso (not yet started but loads of sources are available). This should keep us busy for the next few days anyway..♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:04, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Good news, Lake Untersee passed GA. I think I'll nominate Lake Burton too which we did at the same time remember?♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:06, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

You may also wish to add to Shaare Zedek Synagogue, Winnipeg (attempted to be deleted). Google books beyond page 4 and web and official site might find more..♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:24, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks.I'm thinking though maybe a double hook if you can write an article about the Old Fort of Nassau?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:17, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Lake Qaraoun is great. What next, Old Fort of Nassau or Shea nut and butter production in Burkina Faso?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:59, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

OK. Might want to raffirm 1897 is the destruction date of the fort. I've also read 1873 and also you claim a different date elsewhere in the article (1837).♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:51, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for Alishang, please find a hook and nominate. I will look at this palace article shortly. Didn't watch the royal wedding? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:48, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

I love Westminister. There is something timeless about it. To hear the heavenly choir, the trumpets and see the old fashioned uniforms and carriages really takes you back in history to centuries ago. That's what's so special about it I think is that such occasions offer a rare insight into royal tradition from centuries ago and our heritage.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:03, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Very tough to find sources but I managed to get it over the required limit. When we come to Montenegro there is a notable hotel I want to start Aman Sveti Stefan, part of like the Amantaka etc, the Aman set of hotels. There should be images available on flickr from the user who changed the licenses to the Amantaka and Amanjiwo images.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:58, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

I've written Wedding dress of Princess Elizabeth and Coronation gown of Elizabeth II. AN offbeat subject but a change! The first one needs a quite a bit of work, more info here and in google books. I'd be happy to edit Indian royal attire articles too!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:10, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, it was the AFD of Wedding dress of Kate Middleton which motivated me to create more. Too late now, I've started them!! I will attend to the other articles later.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:39, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

i am about to nominate the two Elizabeth II articles as a double. You may also expand Wedding dress of Queen Victoria which is also very notable. If you can by all means add a little bit to Wedding dress of Princess Alexandra of Denmark, deosn't need much. I will add to the two article you're working on tomorrow, but today I'm into wedding dresses! BTW the photos we now have for Kociste Monastery look very beautiful.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:00, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

I happened to create Plaza Resort Bonaire out of chance in browsing... Images can be uploaded from here. View it on a google maps and in picture, as some very interesting lagoons.. Needs a bit more to be DYK worthy, I'll get cracking on the Montenegro and Bahrain tomorrow.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:27, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Sure, Indian royal costumes sounds like an interesting subject. Why not. I've nominated plaza, will continue with montenegro after lunch.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:46, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

I occurred to me that Wedding dress of Grace Kelly expanded could count as one of our Monaco additions..♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:09, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

I have one more on Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's outfit to start which she wore at the JFK assassination which is said to be iconic, and then I'll get cracking on those in the workspace! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:22, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

I've nommed Princess Alexandra of Denmark, can you review another?♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:25, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Yes Grace Kelly was one of the true iconic people I think, a beautiful woman inside and out. I think that image of her in a wedding dress is one of the most beautiful I've seen of any woman in a dress. That sort of elegance and class really doesn't exist anymore. Well I did start Wedding dress of Jacqueline Bouvier, we could do a double with that and the assassination outfit if I can find the sources. Up to you. Its quite interesting to me to write about this and exquisite tailory for a bit as I and I'm sure you have never done so before! They are certainly very important and well documented events in history, I'm sure you remember JFK's assasination and such. i;m certain India has many examples we could also write about. Its a very poorly developed part of wikipedia!.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:43, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

It was the pink suit Onassis wore on the day that Kennedy got shot. picture here. Maybe google or book search Onassis pink or something.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:08, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

I've created Pink Chanel suit of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. You might find a little but if you could expand the wedding dress we could do a double. I had to write most of it as I had to make an article about a Pink suit seem credible, which is not easy but I think i've accomplished it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:22, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for copy-editing Tiruchirappalli :-). I've also roped in User:Dr. Blofeld and a few others. Hopefully, we will be able to get this through in a short while-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 04:09, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Nvv, Congratulations on your 400th DYK article! That is quite an impressive milestone. Here's to many more! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:45, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Well done!! May you have many more!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:40, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

For some reason I can't access the book info. Can you expand the Jackie Kennedy wedding dress and then we'll move on... I will move onto the Aman hotel shortly.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:05, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy images are copyrighted so can't be used in the DYK.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:18, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Don't worry about it then, its certainly long enough. Perhaps add a link to it in "further reading" for others who can access it? Well, I believe we can claim fair use on it as it is an irreplaceable image. Under copyright law if an image is not replaceable and a free alternative never found then we can claim. Somebody though as tried to delete the Diana image but if I can get a full rationale into it I think it could be kept. I've started on the Aman.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:58, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Nicely done. I've expanded Wedding dress of Princess Mary of Teck. I doubt you would find much more but if you are interested go for it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:21, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

I have completed by inputs to Aman Sveti Stefan and have gone live with it. You may still want to add something else. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:29, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

It will be tough as I made it intentionally comprehensive given that I ha to make a pink dress look credible! Try google books beyond page 5 or 6 and google web beyond page 1... I'll try to think of a double hook. Will start on the bahrain fort this evening after some dinner and a relax. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:43, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately no, we can't use any copyrighted images to illustrate a hook...♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:24, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I've started Osama bin Laden's Hideout Compound, but might get a lot of traffic at the moment and edit conflicts. You might find more on it, important topic in current affairs!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:26, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Thankyou, have nominated it. Quite right, I feel really good about the fact I started such a high profile article on the main global feature of the moment! We should look back on it in say 5 days and more info and even photographs might be available.. But the fact that it is the only one of two articles we have on buildings we seemingly have in that entire province of Pakistan is just awful...♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:26, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

I knew he was in Pakistan but I thought he was much further north and living in some cave in isolated mountains or something. The hypocrisy of him preaching his followers to avoid the luxuries and customs of the west and there he is living in luxury in a $1 million mansion in comfort! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:52, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Mmm I think we should scrap the idea of Bahrain fort, I don't think we can get it past a 5 times expansion.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:40, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

I've copied the work into Qal'at al-Bahrain and redirected Bahrain Fort. The reason being that Qal'at al-Bahrain is by far the most popular name picking up 100,000 hits as opposed to 10,000 and also the sandbox has histories from many other past DYKs so it would have been wrong to move it. Hope this is OK I credited you in the edit summary and of course we will still built on what we have.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:54, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Mmm, bit confused. It says The Portuguese had moved to Colombo from Galle as they preferred that place. In 1588, however, they were attacked by the Sinhalese King Raja Singha I (1581-93) of Sitawaka, which forced the Dutch go back to Galle. You refer to they as Portuguese and then somehow it forced the Dutch? Can you clarify?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:16, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

You sure Amangalla is definiately within the fort area? Because on google maps it is north of the peninsula part.. Maybe the fort area includes the northern part... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:07, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

The reason I noticed is because I made a map of the peninsula part and wanted to locate the hotel on it for both articles but I couldn't as its outside that area. If you zoom in here you'll see the walls are to the south.., strange.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:19, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

If you see File:Galle_Dutch_Fort_cricket_ground.jpg the walls appeared to end before the cricket ground. Amangalla is beyond this. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:27, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Yes I think I'll split them and erase my double nom. I have started Elephant hunting in Kenya which you may wish to expand, I will look at Zimbabwe wildlife later.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:50, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

I'll ask the flickr user about it. Photo? Any one but the main one in the Galle fort infobox! Don't like it! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:46, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Strange that. Al Qudaibiya palace is extremely important to the running of the country.. I thought sources would be plentiful, never mind I'll find another. Bangladesh my favourite country, really?? Bhutan and Laos more so...♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:28, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

You were credited for this article though right?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:58, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, yes he was, but I removed it for the reasons given on your talk page. There's no point having a credit system if someone is credited ("which you created or substantially expanded") for no apparent reason, or for simply adding a couple of lines. I think it behoves Nvvchar to remove this credit from his page. Ericoides (talk) 11:28, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

No it does not. You have no right to order Nvvchar what to do. You may have removed his work but Nvv still put in some effort on the article given that it had become tough to find more info. He rightly deserves credit whether his input was minimal or not. But for interfering busy bodies with the DYk they should have been nominated as a double hook anyway.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:42, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

No one is ordering anyone to do anything. I was giving my opinion (hence my phrasing above: "I think..."). I am sorry if I have caused anyone any offence, but my reasoning stands. Ericoides (talk) 17:00, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

"♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:54, 15 May 2011 (UTC) Are you sure you aren't confusing 50 square kilometres with 50 monuments and 6km long with 6.5 sq kilometres? 50 sq km seems massive that's all/♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:54, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Clear that up and it can be nominated.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:04, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Very nice my friend, I will translate some info about the Plaza and that to add later. A DYK I spotted inspired me to create some more dress articles. I created the iconic Little black Givenchy dress of Audrey Hepburn and the White floral Givenchy dress of Audrey Hepburn. You may wish to expand them, particularly the latter, they're good fun I think. If not, no worries.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:36, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

White dress has less sources for some reason but I think enough can be found on the web to make is DYK worthy.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:17, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

You were credited for the article though. Don't be upset occasionally somebody edits sombody's work or removes it, that's what comes iwth it being an open encyclopedia. The vast majority of text you've added to dress articles remain right?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:25, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Map coords for UNESCO World Heritage Sites

edit

Thanks for your extensive work on List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India. For the map, could you tell if you used the coordinates given in the UNESCO references, or some other source? I added the Kalka-Shimla and Darjeeling Mountain Railways to the map (earlier it had Nilgiris only). I took lat/long from the UNESCO page, and converted them from Deg Min Sec to decimals on WolframAlpha. However, my coordinates are only to two places of decimal while yours are usually 4 to 6. This does not make any material difference at the resolution the map is shown, but just for consistency. Thanks. VishalB (talk) 08:27, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I checked co-ordinates of various sites and found the level of detail varied on UNESCO data itself. Somewhat unexpectedly, found that Fatehpur Sikri was not mentioned on the India WHS page. Added it in the list table, with thumbnails, text, references etc, trying to remain true to the stylistic conventions set by you. Also added it to the map, which is making it look cluttered again, despite having cleaned it up earlier. There's too tight a set of sites in the Delhi-Agra sector.VishalB (talk) 10:13, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the gracious offer of support. Your prolific work on DYKs is already well-noted. You have a barnful of barnstars! I nom'ed Kbal Spean. Would you like to add an img? --Rosiestep (talk) 20:51, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

One more thing... I created Artisans d'Angkor to avoid a redlink for the Kbal Spean nom. I figured the Artisans article would be just a stub. However, if you believe it's expandable to at least 1500 characters, and if you have the time, can you add to it? We can always go back and make the Kbal Spean nom a double-header with Artisans d'Angkor. Or no worries if this doesn't work out. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:08, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Artisans was nom'ed by Dr.B earlier today, before your input, but I've added you as a contributor for purposes of dyk credit. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:05, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Wildlife of Tanzania

edit

It turned out to be a visually beautiful article. I think either of these could be a hook as the assertions are already in the article though they are currently missing inline citations: "... that the Wildlife of Tanzania includes some plant species unique to Tanzania, such as the African violet?" or "... that 30-40 percent of species that make up the Wildlife of Tanzania are located in the Udzungwa Mountains National Park?" Also, some of the references need to be cleaned up, though this might not be a deal-breaker for dyk, such as the ones that look like this: TheTanzaniaExperience,p.10-11. I'll get started on Lake Assal (Djibouti). --Rosiestep (talk) 02:15, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

I have a references icon immediately above the editing area that let's me choose what type of reference I want to add. The icon looks like this {{}}. When I click on it, 7 new tabs appear: "Cite web", "Cite book", "Cite journal", "Cite news". Next to these are "Named ref", "Error check", and "Cancel". Do you have this? --Rosiestep (talk) 02:39, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

I list them all, such as |pages=11, 145-152, 161-163. Another option is to to do what I did with the Hamilton references on the Wildlife of Tanzania article; see reference #30 and #34. Reference #34 should actually be, Hamilton (1989), p. 351, but because Hamilton is only cited in one book in this article, I could get away without including the year... but it's still sloppy on my part to not include the year.--Rosiestep (talk) 02:56, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

"The Tanzania Experience" had an author listed on the last page, and year, so I added that info into the reference. Then I changed "TheTanzaniaExperience,p.4-5" reference . References #1 and #8 are what I worked on. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:11, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Excellent work on Tanzania. Lake Assal is an interesting choice. Sorry I've been busy the last few days, I've had to deal with the highly irritating editors who slop tags over articles without doing proper research. I will attend to these this morning.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:02, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Are you upset with me or something, you've been very quiet the last week or so. I was pulling your leg about you only writing articles for DYK, that Ritz Paris article did require quite some effort but I hope it will pass GA. As for the Artisan article you said something about adding info about the silk making so I didn't want it containing generic text unrelated to the actual institution just to make is DYK worthy, that's all. One thing about the Wildlife of Tanzania article, it says total annual revenue of $30 million but then it says fishing worth $130 million, how can that be?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:25, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

edit

The king of Bhutan is getting married in October if you havnt heard. Someone made a article of the future queen already. I thought you can help it get to DYK, Jetsun Pema (Bhutan). Maybe towards the wedding we can make a wedding article like the William and Kate one and get it to ITN. Spongie555 (talk) 05:11, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

I actually did not make the article or sugest it I just added some soruces so its not deleted. It was made by someone else on May 17. Maybe we can get that image of her with the King I have seen lately. Spongie555 (talk) 05:20, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

We can continue working together over DYKs, but I do want us to occasionally go for a GA like we used to. It's much more intellectually challenging this way to do work together on an occasional GA than just doing DYK. I have a lot of cleanup work to do with Irish castles at the moment and some expansions underway. You are most welcome to join me. I think we will miss each other if we stop working together. Please contact me, thanks. Tibetan Prayer 14:56, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

OK, its just nice to have an article in the background we gradually work on for DYK. Both Kathmandu and Thimphu should be promoted, so I'll bear either of them in mind. First of all though Lake Burton, Antarctica. Above all though I think the quality of writing is most important which also applies to our DYKs. The articles must be copyedited more before they go out I think. I'm glad you are interested in African wildife, some of them are very beautiful countries but as you say it is a continent which most of the world are ignorant of. I will look at Wildlife of Djibouti now.Tibetan Prayer 17:22, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

I've been working on the Description section but decided not to save my edits, and instead check back with you. Do we need a Description section buried deep in the article? It seems to me that most of its content should be in other sections, such as Geography, Geology, Hydrology. I won't try to incorporate the content from Description to other sections as I defer to your expertise on that, but let's give some thought as to do we need a Description section. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:29, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

I think it's fine now. Hook could be: ... that Lake Assal in Djibouti is the lowest point in Africa? This meets my preference, which is for simple, short hooks, but if you'd rather go with something else, no worries. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:14, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

I've done some copyediting to Wildlife of Djibouti. Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 19:35, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Oh dear. I worked on the things you mentioned in your 5-31-11 note on my talk page, that is handling the dyk ALT1 for Wildlife of Tanzania, and coming up with a hook for Wildlife of Djibouti. I didn't realize that W of D had already been nom'ed and promoted. Now the promotion has been returned to the suggestion page for review because of my hook suggestion. I'm sorry. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:35, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Editing suggestions

edit

Hello Nvv and TPrayer, I'd like to suggest two improvements to our editing style: leave a space after the end of a reference tag before starting a new sentence; avoid placing citations in the lead section. Regarding the former, it is easy for me to add an extra space while copyediting; the latter takes more attention and my fear of not getting it right has led me to avoid doing this to a sentence written by another. In theory, anything in the lead that needs a citation should be mentioned again in the body of the article, which is where the inline citation can be added. I'm very guilty of the latter practice but will try to minimize its prevalence in my writing here forward on articles that are beyond Stub class. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:45, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Creating a DYK article

Hi, Any idea how to make a DYK out of an article (Mundeshwari Temple), please link some information if convenient. Hi, I have received following message from Arun Sinha(whom I contacted as discussed earlier on talk page here)
(Message begins)
Dear Mr <my name>,
I hereby authorize you to upload pictures from my Google photos album "Mundeshwari" https://picasaweb.google.com/arusinha/Mundeshwari to Wikicommons pictures so that no license issues are there, only condition being to include source information as told earlier.
Thanks
(Message end)
So let me know how to upload the images. The information of sources must be present as per requirements from his side. ..असक्तः सततं कार्य कर्म समाचर | असक्तः हि आचरन् कर्म.. Humour Thisthat2011 09:29, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
First register your name under Under Wikicommons. Then on the left side box look for upload button. Once you are there there is step by step instruction. Before that you transfer all the images, which you wish to use in the article, into your file as jpg files with the same names as given by the author. Author's name has to be given in the respective proforma Once you start uploading the images to Wikicommons under step by step instructions you have to add the url of the yahoo mail under which Mr Sinha has given you permission to upload the pictures. It is bit winding. But once you get the hang of it, the procedure is very simple. Any way , now the article has good image in the info box.--Nvvchar. 09:47, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Hi, could you comment on the page now please when convenient, I have added some images to make it look even better. ..असक्तः सततं कार्य कर्म समाचर | असक्तः हि आचरन् कर्म.. Humour Thisthat2011 21:38, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Kanak

edit

I just started on User:Nvvchar/Kanak and I'll give it more attention over the weekend. Right now, it is almost entirely devoted to the history/struggle since European contact; some/much of that may be more suitable for the New Caledonia article, or a History of New Caledonia article. I'll try to add more on culture, language, etc. Also, I'm thinking the article should be renamed Kanak people. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:03, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Nicely done you are Rosie! Will nominate later. Actually can you think of a hook and nom, I can't think of one!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:57, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

I have to hurry off to work, but I looked at the dyk conversation regarding Kanak people. Regarding "citizens of New Caledonia", I couldn't figure out which of the 4 inline citations in the lead attest to that, can you? I also double checked the New Caledonia article and didn't see a citation that would support the claim. If it is true, then one specific inline citation next to the sentence that clearly supports it would be best, otherwise, change the sentence and include an inline citation that clarifies their citizenship. PNG is mentioned only once in Kanak people but there is no inline citation next to it, so I'm not sure which ref supports the claim that Kanaks originated in PNG? Not sure how to substantiate the ALT. In a snippet view of the book, The Kanaks of New Caledonia, there is this statement: "The first people probably arrived on the Pacific Islands some 5000 to 6000 years ago, travelling from Asia, via Indonesia, to Papua New Guinea and the other islands. The first settlements of the Kanaks, ..." Unfortunately, google won't let me view the rest of that statement, but as written, it does not support the claim in our article. Materialscientist (talk) 12:02, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

On google street view zoom in on the road going from northwest to south east about 3000 feet northwest of Sidbury. Its stunning!Dr. Blofeld 13:56, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

You might find more for Mtsamboro, tough though as most info is in French. You night scrap enough together to make it DYK worthy though. If not there are always the reserves. although I'd imagine again most info is in French. Yes you will find more by google book searching some of the geo features and islands like choazil islands. I believe there is info in one book on its wildlife. There might even be enough for articles on the islands. Yes I have started Choazil Islands and Chissioua Mtsamboro, the latter of which you will definitely find most google book info under Zamburu island. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:34, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

I've completed my edits on Hedionda Lake (Nor Lipez). I changed the "Description" header to "Hydrography", but I'm not sure that is the appropriate word; can you doublecheck? --Rosiestep (talk) 04:28, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Are you not interested in Mtsamboro? Perhaps Lime production in Mexico?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:36, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

OK, no worries. Yeah that was the problem with a lot of the sources for some of our other recent articles, can't use google translate in google books! I have also started Yam production in Nigeria but only expand it if you can find further info. . ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:22, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Peach production in China is definitely an interesting one which will take your fancy. That'll do for now!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:58, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Nyau

edit

You may be interested in expanding it a bit more. There is lots of info in book refs. I have it at about 3.5 expansion. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:40, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

"Since it is also adopted to scare people to extract money it has been used to as connotation to describe the dancers: "He dumped the whole christian thing these days, he's gone back to his roots and joined Nyau or Behave yourself, stop acting like a Nyau”. I don't uinderstand this. "adopted to scare people to extract money" and the quote doesn't make sense.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:45, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Do you get hayfever? Mine is always at its absolute worst around June 20th at the peak of the grass pollen season.. The next two weeks usually are bad for me!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:03, 19 June 2011 (UTC) I am terribly allergic to pollen and I get high fever whenever I am in Austin.--Nvvchar. 16:06, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Loss of interest? Why do you say so? I had intended working on that after Nyau this evening!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:25, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

As requested, I'm copyediting Kanak people now. I just spotted the word "Coldeches"... it needs an inline citation... I can't figure out where that word comes from. BTW, Nyau looks marvelous! --Rosiestep (talk) 00:34, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

I knew the Nyau masks would be of great interest. I am working on the Zanzibar article now.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:10, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Zanzibar. you claim only remaing natural habitat in northeast and southwest and then you claim the national park is the main habitat in Zanzibar in the central east!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:47, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Another. You earlier claimed coral rag cannot be converted to farmland and then you claim, " The coral rag in the park is the earliest settlement, which was exploited for agricultural development due to population pressure." I misinterret this. It cannot be converted means literally or it is now protected or something? Please clarify.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:51, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

I nom'ed Nyau. As none of the 3 imgs mentioned Nyau, and 1 mentioned Gule Wamkulu, I incorporated GW into the hook. Hope that's ok. Can you add the img? Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 01:52, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Impressive work. Still having hayfever problems. The worst thing though is waking up in the morning and feeling extremely dehydrated as it affects your mind. I will try to add more to the flora section shortly for Zanzibar and then I'll take a look as this Roseau Cathedral. We are really making progress through these different countries now and I hope you are enjoying it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:01, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Menai Bay Conservation Project may be to your liking. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:54, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Hayfever is at its worst today, eyes all puffy and headache, full of pollen I guess. Will attempt to look at Roseau later and Menai. Its OK, always worst when I wake up in the morning and takes a while to clear. Having nothing but rolling green fields and trees behind my house and ingesting it all night is what does it. I've spotted a few Dominca related articles we can work on, Fort Young Hotel and Dominica Museum. I spotted Fort Young on google maps, prominent white structure used to be a Fort during colonial times and is Dominica's leading hotel. I'll make a start on that later. Perhaps if you have time you could start on Dominica Museum? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:15, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

No more hits in google books for Roseau Cathedral! Only managed to find two or three other sources. Picked up a valuable missing biography though, although as you said you hate writing biographies. Will begin on the Fort Young later ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:37, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

I'll return to Wildlife of Zanzibar tonight. As usual, I got distracted following a redlink. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 14:00, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Yeah his paintings reveal an interesting insight into early colonial times in the Caribbean, valuable as we do not other visual evidence from this period. I've completed my inputs to the Fort Young Hotel, doubt you'll find much more for just add a source or two from google books and I'll nom. I also managed to crop an image of File:The Dominica Museum.jpg the museum, will start later.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:30, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Well he has a point that articles shouldn't really be entirely written from travel guides. There is a tendency to rely on them solely which I think is the issue. However I most certainly disagree with him that guides such as Lonely Planet, Bradt Guides and Frommer's etc are not as reliable as others. Unless he can present evidence to the contrary that they are non reliable sources. In fact I have several Bradt and Lonely Planet guides myself and they are generally written by writers who have expert knowledge about countries having lived there themselves for many years. This is why they often cover off-track places because they have an intimate knowledge of the places which should be considered very valuable. The issue as I say at least for me is to cut down the reliance on travel guides solely to write articles and to try to incorporate wider book sources and reading. I'm going to address this to the RS Board as I feel MS is wrong about them not being reliable sources.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:22, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Feeling OK today thanks. I've addressed the issue at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. I've always found them to reliable sources. The point I think is to try to use wider sources if possible. Fort Teremba is most certainly acceptable right now. I suppose his criticism is that there is a tendency to go straight to the travel guides as a start... That's fine in my view so long as the final article uses many other types of sources and a variety of solid books which are not travel guides.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:13, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Yeah go ahead with the museum. The cathedral and hotel look fine to me.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:09, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

There's a major long-term dispute on this page and its subarticles and they are being treated as a battleground between the two subsects, this has been going on for too long on wiki now but in an on-off mode. It's currently at a "high" stage and I've protected the page, but if you can contribute to the discussion that would be good. I nom'ed it. If you think there's an appropriate img for the hook, would you please add it? Can you think of a better hook? --Rosiestep (talk) 21:52, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Being our resident dam expert, you may also find enough resources to make Lake Cachí start level. I say we include the dam and lake in one article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:54, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm also working on Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve but not on Threats or Conservation. I keep looking for the hook sentence but haven't found it yet... in time, it'll appear. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:02, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

The article seems ready for nom. How about ... that the yareta plant in Bolivia's Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve resembles a foamy bubble bath, is as hard as stone, and can be up to 3000 years old? --Rosiestep (talk) 04:17, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

You may wish to also add to Ujarrás, the village next to the dam actually.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:26, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Please think of a hook and nominate.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:56, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Also there is Jerbourg Point, I was going to do that solely but it could count towards one of our Guernsey efforts. Anyway, that's more than enough for now!♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:51, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

If the Bemruda hotel doesn't appeal to you find some other topics. I was hard pushed to find some as we already have a good coverage of it. []National Museum of Archaeology (Bolivia)]] also needs expansion, maybe you can find something on it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:55, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Proposed Tibetan naming conventions

edit

A while back, I posted a new proposal for Tibetan naming conventions, i.e. conventions that can be used to determine the most appropriate titles for articles related to the Tibetan region. This came out of discussions about article titles on Talk:Qamdo and Talk:Lhoka (Shannan) Prefecture. I hope that discussions on the proposal's talk page will lead to consensus in favour of making these conventions official, but so far only a few editors have left comments. If you would be interested in taking a look at the proposed naming conventions and giving your opinion, I would definitely appreciate it. Looks good. ONe thing though "An attic is the largest breeding colony of a nocturnal hunting type of bats, one of its kind in Central Europe;" I find this hard to believe, can you clarify in the article about this?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:45, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

I've reworded it a little. That Elizabeth Báthory, what an interesting character!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:10, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Couldn't find it. Central Europe really has a fascinating history, particularly through the middle ages with the numerous Counts and Countesses and their castles. The old Hapsburg Empire. Do you think you can find enough about Elizabeth's birth place of Nyírbátor (another article I started long ago) to qualify for a x5 expansion?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:29, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Why is it you dislike hotel articles?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:48, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

I see. But if the places are historical and information on architecture and history is available I find this concern can be overidden. The only issue is the articles which use purely travel guides and it reads like an advert. As you saw with my Hotel Ritz Paris article, I know how to write articles on hotels to a good standard. I guess you are concerned that one or two mentioned an advert for the Galle Fort hotel and the Montenegro hotel but hotels are more tricky to write I agree to avoid people complaining about them. But it is old manor/country houses and coaching inns which are my major interest. Feathers Hotel, Ludlow is a good example which you may wish to add to. Its such buildings which sort of take you back in time by just looking at them and being in them which I like.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:10, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Your biggest architectural interest is forts right? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:19, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Me too, but I'd have to say my biggest passions are old country stately homes and Buddhist monasteries.Very handsome I think. I mean the interior elegance of this..) ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:31, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Manors

edit

I have also started Knighton Gorges Manor after I read it was once the grandest manor on the Isle of Wight and its most haunted location. Isle of Wight is said to be the most haunted island in the world too!! The manor house itself is said to appear as a ghost!! It has not existed though since 1821! All that remains is the gates. You may wish to add to it. That should be enough for now, should give us a few days to copy edit these Isle of Wight manors. I will create many more myself though based on the public domain texts from 1912, but probably won't DYK nominate them,♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:06, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

How bizarre! If you ever visit the UK in the near future you should definitely visit the Cotswolds, (Gloucestershire and Shropshire). It has some fascinating Tudor buildings. Typical villages look like this. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:57, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

The lead of Lake Burton needs to effectively summarize the article. It is way off doing so.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:38, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Can you make sense of this:

என் நல்ல நண்பர் Nvvchar வணக்கம். நீங்கள் ஆங்கில விக்கிப்பீடியா ஒரு மிகவும் மதிப்புமிக்க பங்களிப்பாளராக யார் மிகவும் திறமையான மற்றும் முடிந்தது பழைய மனிதன் இருக்கிறீர்கள்♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:18, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Ha, interesting. Try copying and pasting it into google translate.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:24, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

You'll be pleased to know Lake Burton passed GA so soon after my amendments, but you equally deserve credit for your part in writing much of the article. I think the articles which are small in focus are easier to write and more likely to pass GA. But I have a very high pass rate now so hopefully we can extend this to other articles we've created to get up to GA. Text I added to All Saints' Church, Newchurch has made the article go from 2 to 7kb. You might find info on its history and more references to make DYK worthy. Probably a listed building if you google All Saints church newchurch isle of wight british listed buildings, should turn up something. You may upload a plan of the church from http://www.british-history.ac.uk/image.aspx?compid=42068&filename=fig86.gif&pubid=275 to the commons and license as PD-old and give the publication and date 1912 which should be fine. Isle of Wight is one of our entities in the DYK country list of course and we now have 3 or 4 I believe. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:20, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

No I didn't forget it. Somebody removed my nomination. It read DYK the New York Times referred to it as the most handsome inn in the world.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:52, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Good job. Very interesting medieval Italy. One thing though, you say "The decline culminated in 1696 when the castle was sold to Livio Odescalchi, nephew of Pope Innocent XI; the Odescalchi family still retain the castle." However i the next paragraph you say "The castle and the estate were under Duke Marino Torlonia of the Torlonia family until 1848 when it was sold to Prince Livio Odescalchi III." This is confusing as you infer it fell into the possession of Livio some 150 years prior. Please clarify. I've been to Italy and am in love with the Amalfi Coast. In fact I think my time there was the happiest ever. If you look at the panorama full resolution you can sort of get a feel of it by the buildings and sea. Its a fabulous place it really is. I We must work on this for a DYK. You would adore the views from the monastery of Ravello. The Amalfi Coast article would have a summary of each commune, a section on its landmarks such as architecture/churches aside from History and Geography and Economy of course.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:58, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Kanak people review has begun. Off hand I think we must cover the 1878 revolt in more detail. In fact we should have a whole article on it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:56, 10 July 2011 (UTC)♦

Feel free to nominate the articles. Thanks for your edits and picture to Queen of Sheba's Palace.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:45, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

As I'm sure you are aware the DYK complaints have been very heavy of late and the fact that even our articles have been brought down shows that something has to change in the process/. I love working with you and Rosie and the concept of hooks but I think there is more to wikipedia than DYK. I think there should be a stronger emphasis on Good articles which I believe are very important on wikipedia as they are a sign that an article has been formally assessed and reviewed. I don't know about you but I find having articles promoted to GA a much more rewarding experience than DYK. Of course it is meant to be fun but the continued anti-DYK movement which is developing and the snide comments of many at DYK review its not like it used to be. I think DYK reform is needed. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:39, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

I know DYK is meant to be fun and it is much easier just creating start class articles but I think for scholarly people visiting wikipedia the first thing they want to know is who wrote the article and as it undergone any assessment to at least imply that the article they are reading is trustworthy. Of course many may doubt even FA articles but it at least is a symbol that time and care has been taken of the article. Of course I think it important to have stub or start class articles on as many topics as possible which is why I regularly create stubs but I also think it very important for articles which regularly get high page views to reach GA level or more. Our core articles in particular should be GA level at least. I think me must work on Kathmandu some time. I split some sections of it a few weeks ago but it now needs condensing down.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:00, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I have made a reform proposal here. I think if we had a sub page to display DYKs on we could have many more hooks at once and we could display the images we are often deprived of on the main page at present. Also it would be featured for much longer than present, a full 24 hours. Page views of our DYKs and main page hits indicates a very small percentage actually visit the articles directly anyway. I personally think the front page of the encyclopedia cannot afford to be inconsistent and that it should display only the highest quality content. I understand many will not like this proposal but its my solution to solving multiple problems which exist.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:50, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Problem is so many are ignorant of the problems of DYK and are unwilling to adapt. This is why we never get anywhere with such discussions. I don't know about you but I'm tired of the complaints and people moaning about sources, it makes DYK less fun than it should be. If nothing is changed it is going to get worse and every article we nominate will be picked on and have difficulty going through.

What do you mean Dungar? There is no duplicate.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:45, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Ambassador Program: assessment drive

edit

Even though it's been quiet on-wiki, the Wikipedia Ambassador Program has been busy over the last few months getting ready for the next term. We're heading toward over 80 classes in the US, across all disciplines. You'll see courses start popping up here, and this time we want to match one or more Online Ambassadors to each class based on interest or expertise in the subject matter. If you see a class that you're interested, please contact the professor and/or me; the sooner the Ambassadors and professors get in communication, the better things go. Look for more in the coming weeks about next term.

In the meantime, with a little help I've identified all the articles students did significant work on in the last term. Many of the articles have never been assessed, or have ratings that are out of date from before the students improved them. Please help assess them! Pick a class, or just a few articles, and give them a rating (and add a relevant WikiProject banner if there isn't one), and then update the list of articles.

Once we have updated assessments for all these articles, we can get a better idea of how quality varied from course to course, and which approaches to running Wikipedia assignments and managing courses are most effective.

Nvv that really sounds like a bad excuse to stop editing. You know MS is always going on about quality. Should he have mentioned it in your 500 award? Absolutely not as its a kick in the teeth at the hard work and quality articles you've produced. But MS is not a valid reason to leave. You know your contributions are warmly appreciated here. It appalls me in all honesty that you think DYK all there is to wikipedia. As I said if we worked together on GAs you'd get nothing but compliments. Nvv, Congratulations on your achievement: the 500 DYK milestone. Note only should you be proud of it, but your family as well. This doesn't happen overnight. It requires hundreds (more likely thousands) of hours of research, writing, editing, collaborating. I have so enjoyed the ones we've done together! I am hopeful there will be an opportunity to collaborate again. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:08, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Nvv, Material Scientist is not being especially critical towards you, rather it is the stress on quality for DYKs in general. I will be sorely disappointed if you leave wikipedia now just because you have your 500 article achievement. To me it makes it look as if you have not enjoyed working on articles with Rosie and I and all you cared about was a figure. As I've said all along there is so much more to wikipedia than DYK. Please return and help me get some deserved articles up to GA and to continue to improve Indian articles, especially cities which greatly need the input from an editor as good as you. MS and I more than anything want to see many more articles on Indian subjects from you like Jahanpanah and Dal Lake which are very fine pieces. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:34, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
