- I believe that on the page, the understanding is that Bharat is not an English name at all, much less an English name for India(perhaps local dictionary for local audience was the cause, as I did not read the word Bharat in some dictionaries). I have checked all the archives and in every archive, whenever someone says that and gives some proof then he is told that Bharat is 'not and English name' of the country. This has been going on since a long time I think, in absence of Knowledgable people from India giving information on the topic. I am just glad that people atleast understand that Bharat is an English name, and notability is the main concern here. When I first asked this question on the topic, I was told that it is no more than 'family myth' and 'unsubstantiated nonsense'. This is the state of mentality of people editing Wikipedia. It is strange that people who are not familiar with Indian scene are giving random judgments about India on Wikipedia.(according to me)
- Anyways, I have given more sources, from Govt websites etc. I think it should come to your notice also since you said that the constitution is the only information you have about Bharat as an English name, which is not good enough for notability, etc.

About origin of word Hinduism edit
Hi,
In the article on Hinduism, the Etymology section immediately at the introduction talks about origin of Hinduism. The references given, from books by left-wing historians like Romila Thapar etc., are to me 'obvious' attempts at confusing anyone who is curious about Hinduism and gets on to google -> Wikipedia or Wikipedia->Hinduism etc.
I have tried to get to the origin, from here onwards origin sources though not got a lot of responses. I could locate the word Hindu after some days of searches in a Sanskrit dictionary too, but unable to get the definition translated on Wikipedia; though as I mentioned earlier, there are many definitions and no 'best' or 'worst' ones. So I would like you to throw some light on that please (when comfortable that is). - I went through the discussion. It'll require deep knowledge of Sanskrit to derive useful information from the given sources. I know just a few words. It would also have to be proven that these sources are older than the presently mentioned origin of the word, and have not been modified in the intervening period. That will require extensive research by a Sanskrit scholar. I don't know if Romila Thapar is correct or not, but she has spent her life doing research and writing books. She writes what she believes is true. The only way to counter her points is to cite other authors who are as authoritative. To make lasting edits on Wikipedia, the citation standards have to be followed to stand up to scrutiny by all editors. You perhaps felt I would be able to contribute to the matter because I've mentioned Hinduism as an early interest on my userpage. Let me clarify that my interests are quite amateur, and lean more towards spiritual traditions like meditation, to which Hinduism has made important contributions (along with many others like Taoism, Vajrayana, Zen, and Sufism). The history or etymology of the religion's name has not been an area of interest, because I feel it does not affect the fundamental essence or message of the faith. Historians keep fighting over etymologies of everything; one can usefully add to the discussion only after much research. VishalB (talk) 07:53, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I will keep this in mind. Though I would still want someone like you to take an edit pass of the page when convinient, as the page perhaps is top search on google on 'Hinduism' and does look a little messy for readers. I understand your concern, as sources can be distorted in time as also pointed out by others so I have not insisted on any edit reversions on that.
- I agree that Etymology will not affect essence, though at the same time I would like to point out that a little indifference may lead to overlooking some incorrect assertions in Etymology added perhaps in bad faith(perhaps not), that is all my concern i.e. correctness and then avoiding misinterpretation. UNESCO World Heritage Sites edit
All articles, specially on UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the one I posted on India some months ago, use only the coordinates given in the UNESCO references. - Good. There are too many sites around Delhi Agra belt, which makes it cluttered. We can't help it. Some of these sites that I expanded got upgraded to GA. You may like to try to expand some of the sites on the UNESCO's temporary list, if they are of short length. I can help to take it to DYK. WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest edit
Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

It's been almost an year since "Indian collaboration of the month" was active. Firstly we need to restart this as soon as possible for development of India-related articles to greater heights. Supporting Indian Wikipedia Program resource distribution edit
In 2017 - 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India chapter (WMIN) and user groups will pilot a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. This program (Code name: Project Tiger) will:
- (a) Support active and experienced Wikipedia editors through the donation of laptops and stipends for internet access and
- (b) Sponsor a language-based contest that aims to address existing Wikipedia content gaps.
The objective of the program is to provide laptops and internet stipends for existing editors who need support to contribute more actively. 50 basic model Acer Chromebooks and Internet stipends for 100 contributors are available for distribution. Provided resources are the sole property of the beneficiaries and should be used for the betterment of the movement.
If you're an active Wikimedian, and interested to receive support from this project, please apply. It will take around 10 minutes of your time, and will ask descriptive questions about your contribution to Indic Wikimedia projects.

Project Tiger Writing Contest edit
In 2017 – 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India Chapter (WMIN) and user groups from India, are piloting a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. This program will (a) support active and experienced Wikipedia editors through the donation of laptops and stipends for internet access and (b) sponsor a language-based contest that aims to address existing Wikipedia content gaps.
Phase (a) has been completed, during which active contributors were awarded laptops and internet stipends. Phase (b) will be a contest in which editors will come together and develop a writing contest focused on content gaps. Each month three individual prizes will be awarded to each community based on their contribution for the month. The prizes worth 3,000 INR, 2000 INR, and 1,000 INR, will be awarded to the top contributors for each month. The contest started at March 1, 2018, 0:00, and will end at May 31, 2018, 23:59 (IST). - A significant number of the new articles received each day are about South Asian topics, mainly biographies and cultural themes, along with the usual spam for companies. There is a huge backlog at the NewPagesFeed and more editors with experience and knowledge of Indian subjects are urgently needed to patrol the pages. If you are already a New Page Reviewer, please help out as much as you can. If you are not, please check out WP:NPP, then take a look at the requirements at WP:NPR and if you feel up to it, apply for the New Page Reviewer right at WP:PERM.
- Kalapani territory has been a subject of edit warring by multiple editors. Kalapani is a disputed area between Nepal and India. The page was fully protected from 10 to 17 November. You're welcomed to patrol the page and keep your eyes on the new editors. Makes sure to assume good faith while editing the page.
