article review question

Hi HIAB,

I'm admittedly a bit new to this, but I was hoping you could clarify a couple things for me regarding the recent article of mine which you reviewed (Draft:Peter Sklar.

As I've been rather painstaking in taking facts from the many sources I've found, I'm surprised that it reads like an advertisement. Could you point out some sentences which you feel are in the tone of an advertisement rather than an encyclopedia? I've been basing my prose on many other notable living person biographies from the entertainment industry such as Reese Witherspoon, Darren Aronofsky, Audra McDonald, and Stephen Sondheim to name a few, and trying to model my style after them.

Also, you mentioned that the sources should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. Of the 58 sources I cited, 3 of them were created by the subject, and those are not referred to for any important information in the article. (For instance, I refer to his own biography on his own website to cite that he was in a band as a teenager). The other 55 sources are most certainly not produced by the subject, and in fact run the gamut of what I believe you would consider reliable: New York Times, E! True Hollywood Story, Phil Donahue, other talk shows, live news broadcasts/interviews, major print and online newspapers, etc.

If you could help me understand these two points- some examples of advertising language in my article, and some examples of the kinds of sources you're calling unreliable, as I've cited them, that would be extremely helpful.

Let me start by saying that for me I believe less is more. I notice there is loads and loads of pictures, nothing wrong per se with that. I then notice the lecture career section and it seems more to promote the themes of his lectures rather then report on notable aspects about those same ones. So basically, you're saying that if I report on notable aspects about the lecture themes, instead of just presenting the themes of Mr. Sklar's lectures, and then remove some of the photos, the article will basically be ready for approval? Typically 7 days however that can be shorter or longer depending on the amount of discussion. Right now the best I think we can hope for is a no consensus close, it appears to meet the Soldier notability but it appears they are using a mix of {WP:GNG]] with a liberal dosage of WP:IAR. I'd like to direct you to WP:NACD where it says: "Participants, including participating administrators, should not reopen non-admin closures." The correct proceedings in cae you disagree with a closure are: First: Ask the closer to revert himself, discussing reasons for closure;re-opening. Second: Ask at WP:AN for an adnministrator to re-open the AfD, citing a reason. Third: Take it to WP:DRV. I've also read WP:IAR and would revert it anyways that's why it helps to have qualified people close these, the person relisting was an admin who is qualified to make those calls. WP:BLANKING states in pertinent part:

Hello, Hell in a bucket, thanks for reviewing my article on Cinny Kennard. The sources I have cited in my Cinny Kennard post are reliable sources, independent of the subject. It's disappointing to write a well-researched post about a notable journalist and see the bios of many other journalists published on wikipedia with few, if any, independent references. Annie Baxter, a former reporter at Minnesota Public Radio, now with American Public Media's Marketplace, has a very short bio with no references. NPR's Lourdes Garcia-Navarro's wiki bio also is also poorly cited as is Nancy Updike's. Most of the bios on the list of "American women journalists" are also lengthy with few credible, independent references. Please advise. Thank you.

Draft:Fashion Nova

Thank you for agreeing that Fashion Nova is clearly notable. The problem is this other amateur user keeps disrupting and ruining the draft with her unhelpful contributions and keeps putting them back after I remove them to improve the draft. We are all amateurs, a key part of this project is working with other editors who sometimes mercilessly change what may be our preferred vision. I'd suggest moving this to your sandbox, from there you can work on the article in peace and no one will bother you or revert your changes. Here are a few of the things that need to go.

• Fashion Nova also offers plus size & curve, maternity, and a men’s line. In 2018, the brand launched its first seasonal Halloween costume line.
• In 2017, Fashion Nova became one of the most searched fashion brands, alongside Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Supreme and Chanel. (don't try and establish notability based on other brands ;let the sourcing talk for itself.
• Fashion Nova released its first collaboration line with singer Cassie Ventura in 2018. They followed that line up with the release of Amber Rose line in the summer. In November of 2018, Fashion Nova released its line with rapper Cardi B,[7] which sold out within minutes. (This is peacock stuff.)
• The entire marketing section should be reworked, when I read the article it's one of two things written by an employee (allowed but discouraged) or a person that is a fan of the brand. Try and remember we need to present facts and why they are notable, sometimes in the writing I get lost in the celebrity stuff. There are others but this should give you a good start. I would greatly appreciate your help in getting the article into publishable order.

I'm really at a loss on what is lacking or a problem in the article. I've provided substantial sources, all which are relevant in the genre. I've also thought I've removed any type of material that seems promotional.

I'd very much like to document artists in this genre. It is an important genre to music inasmuch as it comes at the junction of past classical music and present contemporary classical music.

If you can provide specific references as examples for improvement, I'll work with you to make the improvements and attempt to carry those forward on future work.

It wasn't the username that made me decline the article, or leave you a little but on COI editing. I honestly don't know if you have a COI in this area or not but when I reviewed the history, saw an AFD on the article it seems like there may be one in play. I like sources like [[2]] it talks about his notability but the problem that I find with it is that it is promotional to sell an album. The artist has to meet WP:GNG as applies to Wikipedia:Notability (music). I think that the artist is probably notable but is everything that is written in that article really needed? This [[3]] is notable. See the difference in sources? Now as to a possible COI that I note more then myself have expressed concerns with. When I reviewed your contributions I saw [[4]] 3 months of non stop writing about one artist Jeff Oster. Usually this is because the person is writing about themselves or they are a close relative or fan. This is very important though, if you are the subject or connected to them, or paid by them I urge you to declare it.Undisclosed COI or dishonestly disclosed identities can have bad effects on your reputation, editors here will respect you more if you are upfront and will afford you less suspicion then otherwise. I myself am happy to help if we can operate within WP:NPOV with your writing. You've done a good job so far because you've talked to a few people but maybe they haven't explained some of what they seen the way I did. Hopefully it helps in the article clean up. To be clear: I am not a relative of Oster. I am likewise not being paid (trust me: no one could afford me, if I charged what I get paid on my real job). I will admit to being a fan of the GENRE. It was my hope by getting Oster's correct, I could continue to document the genre (for which there are very few entries on Wikipedia). If being a fan of the genre is disqualifier, please let me know and I'll cease work. I would expect being a fan of the genre would give me insights... not bias.

If being a fan of the genre is not a disqualifier, I'd deeply appreciate your help so I can get to work on other artists in the genre.

I am the Founder of this company which I built (along with others cited in the article) and which was acquired by Gannett Communications in 2008. Gannett is one of the largest media companies in the world (their best known product is USA Today) and they are very careful and diligent in the companies they evaluate and acquire. I re-read what I posted and still believe that I told the story from a neutral point of view (not an advertisement). The references I provided outlined the background of the founders as well as documenting the acquisition by Gannett. Pearls Review has since been acquired by OnCourse Learning (a large healthcare education and content company) in 2015 and a few months ago was sold to Relias, a division of Bertelsmann, another large international media company. The references provided document these acquisitions. Thus the documentation provided (and references) confirmed what was said in the article. Please re-examine the references which are official reports of the events I outlined in the article which were not created by me or Pearls Review. Thank you. ----

The resources that are presented are not what we would consider reliable to show how she passes the WP:GNG. The first two for example show she has lyrics for a song but that doesn't give notability. If you apply a speedy tag to a page which is transcluded you must bracket the tag with <noinclude></noinclude> . Your failure to do so in the case of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Carmen Maldonado González caused numerous innocent pages to appear in CAT:CSD. Or better, you should have first removed the entry in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2019 May 13. I remember we were at an outdoor show in Buckeye, when an intense thunderstorm rolled through and started raging at the beginning of the show. Twenty minutes later, just as the storm began to dissipate, they started playing Here Comes Sunshine — it was truly a magical moment. The sun literally started peering through the vanishing storm clouds as the first notes of the song started playing, and there was an audible gasp from nearly a 100,000 people upon hearing that. You give works and publications but there is no indication those are actually notable works. The dissertation is mentioned but is it notable? Saying he has a number of x posts, be specific. Re: canvassing

About this: it makes me think that the page WP:Canvassing is poorly titled, in that it describes a series of behaviors ("inappropriate notifications") but maybe only some of those behaviors actually deserve the name "canvassing"; or perhaps that the lead does not reflect its contents sufficiently clearly. At least, I think Buffs and I are probably not alone in feeling that when one person accuses another of canvassing, what they really mean is "campaigning" or "votestacking" (because if they meant "spamming", they would just say "spamming"). Yeah, I mean, I'm pretty interested in the mob stuff, watched most of the interviews of these mob guys who've left the life, and have had some extra time recently so cleaned up a bunch of mob articles in the last couple of months. In Franzese's interviews he comes across as very intellectual and calm, but when I saw Alite's interview, this guy is clearly still very pissed off with Gotti Jr. Yeah... I had no idea about the story between them... battleground alright between who's a "rat" and who's not etc. Looking back at the edits we reverted last year, without a doubt, looking back at it now, that's gotta be Alite even using his actual name. Kinda spooky but from watching the interview I can understand why he's pissed and I tend to believe him—but as you know, we need sources, and if he claims to have sources, he's more than welcome to add them, but what he allegedly wrote was full of typos and nothing was sourced. Anyway, over the next day or so, I'm gonna make an effort to add further sourced material. Gotti Jr's page doesn't state him being an informant outright, but we have to go by sources and there aren't any immediate sources that I can find that classify him as a cooperating informant—as Alite said in the interview, we really don't know what happened behind closed doors with the FBI. day-of-year articles

Per WP:DOYCITE and WP:DOYSTYLE, all new entries to day-of-year articles require an inline citation. A small group of editors are doing the tedious work of going through every day-of-year article and adding sources to each entry from the main articles. (Take a look at January 1!) While that clean up is going on, preventing new entries without a source helps to keep the endeavor achievable. As more and more of the entries become sourced, new editors will hopefully see that and imitate it. The editor who added the entry to March 22 has been told this many times. The WP:TPG says that it is "controversial" to remove talk page comments for incivility alone, not that it is against policy. And the statement "you lied" is exactly what I would call an "egregious attack", especially since it is untrue and part of an edit that violates at least three of the TPGs. And you know as well as I do how pointless it would be to take an IP editor to ANI. So thanks for making my editing day more unpleasant than it had to be: I didn't see you reverting the IP when they deleted my last connebt on the same page for no policy-compliant reason. My revert was in response to an egregious, false claim, and I still think your re-inscribing their comment was a mistake under the circumstances. This is quite independent of what you think about the substantive issues of the discussion, which are irrelevant in this context: this is a pure conduct issue, which are notoriously hard to deal with, with IPs. Saying that someone lied is always a violation of WP:AGF, all the more so when they did not. So in my mind that is in the category of egregious comments that should always be removed, because there is no scenario in which such a comment can be constructive. Clearly we aren't going to agree about this, but in my view comments that make their "argument" entirely by casting aspersions and misstating what other editors have written are not "legit", and when they step over the line of CIVIL they ought to be removed rather than humoured.
