Thank you, but there's an error in the GA Notice for Talk:Mountain Meadows Massacre/GA2 at Talk:Mountain Meadows Massacre

on your GA2, please see Talk:Mountain Meadows Massacre for the Error: Invalid time.. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 14:55, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Apologies, I missed a ~. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 19:11, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
No worries, I knew it was probably something like that. I suppose I could have gone ahead and fixed it/edited it myself but I am generally somewhat loath to edit other editors' contributions to GA Reviews & notices etc. ... Shearonink (talk) 03:47, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
PS - Taking your comments into account, I added some refs & info for the statement about newspapers reporting on the Massacre and on Lee's trials and execution. Thanks again for all your help. Shearonink (talk) 03:47, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
I figured out how to adjust that one sentence that seemed unreferenced so it was clear that it refers to subsequent sub-sections! I just put in anchors that go directly to the subsections - Yay! Shearonink (talk) 13:52, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Half Million Award for Snooker

  The Half Million Award
For your contributions to bring Snooker (estimated annual readership: 550,000) to Good Article status, I hereby present you the Half Million Award. Congratulations on this rare accomplishment, and thanks for all you do for Wikipedia's readers! Reidgreg (talk) 12:34, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Hi Reidgreg - thank you so much for this. Ironically, the same article has just passed FAC (in the last 20 minutes or so), could you sort out the FA version too? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:30, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Ha! No problem, easier doing it now than in a month when I'll have forgotten the details. Have the benefit of current pageviews this time – quite a difference for 10 hours. – Reidgreg (talk) 22:37, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Pot Black

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Pot Black you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Shearonink -- Shearonink (talk) 14:20, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Great timing and well done

I see Snooker was promoted today, a 600-pointer, a couple of days after the cut-off point for the penultimate round for the WikiCup when Gog the Mild had promoted my candidate on the very last day of that round, despite me having more than 3,000 points. (Oh, and the 2013 championship for another 200 points!) Perhaps these timings need to be addressed in next year's competition! Well done on the article although there seem to be outstanding issues worth looking into it. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 20:09, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Happy to look into any issues with the article - I picked up what Akumaru was talking about, my mistake. I can't say I have much control over when the noms get closed though. You'd have to speak to the co-ords for that. I'm happy to vouch for those points to be moved into the final round, if you'd like to; it's very clear you didn't need the points for round 4.
On another note, thanks for picking up my reviews this year, and previously. I was very pleased to see snooker did finally get promoted, it's a big topic for me to get over the line. I know you have some items at FAC and GAN, so I'll try to pick them up as and when I can. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:17, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Yes, there seem to be a number cropping up around the cut off date, including one of mine promoted 11 hours earlier than I might have liked it to be - the last one promoted before the deadline  . I am not sure what there is to be done about it - reviewers wrap up reviews as and when they do. But if anyone has a cunning plan that may help things it would be worth considering. Excellent article BTW Lee, looked like a labour of love. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:23, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
The only thing I can suggest is that the rules be changed to not have the scores be reset every round, so it prioritises people to not put all their work up at one time, and have this issue. Although, that would completely throw me out of the race.
Thanks, Gog. I know it was a bit of a fight, but we got there in the end. :) Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:27, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Nothing outside the rules of course, but I lost 280 points in this final round while Lee picked up 800 points, just because of two days. I think it sucks and probably won't push myself now going forward. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 20:29, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
I feel your pain, I really do. The 2019 final had a very similar deal for me with a day late for an FA that would have won the tournament. I can only suggest a change in the rules. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:44, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Difference here is that this is a 1000-point deficit because of two days, right at the start. It's bollocks. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 20:51, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Editor's Barnstar
Congratulations once again on the Snooker FA, and for your kind words to me there. I know snooker is your major topic of interest here in WP, so to get the sport itself to FA must be of great satisfaction. And it's a "vital article" too. Wikipedia is lucky to have you!  — Amakuru (talk) 20:37, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Seconded. Probably one of the hardest kind of articles to get through FA. Well done indeed! The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 20:39, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks again guys. I doubt I'll tackle anything quite so vast for a while (at FAC anyway), but probably go back to random tournaments. Still another 40-odd World Snooker Championship articles to take to GA! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:46, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Promotion of Snooker

Congratulations, Lee Vilenski! The article you nominated, Snooker, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Gog the Mild (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:07, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

Congrats!

I'm a little late to the party, but wanted to congratulate you on the Snooker FA! Also here to let you know that we are in the middle of promoting Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Tour Championship (snooker)/archive1, but trying to use the new bot as a trial (I hope that's okay!). If the bot messes anything up, I'll go in and fix whatever needs to be done. Regardless, huge FA and FT, you're on a roll! Aza24 (talk) 21:31, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks! I saw, not an issue, I'll update you if I see anything weird. First FT for me, hopefully not my last. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 21:33, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

WikiCup 2021 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished with over 500 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants,   The Rambling Man and   Epicgenius, each scoring over 3000 points, and six contestants scoring over 1000. All but one of the finalists achieved one or more FAs during the round, the exception being   Bloom6132 who demonstrated that 61 "in the news" items produces an impressive number of points. Other contestants who made it to the final are   Gog the Mild,   Lee Vilenski,   BennyOnTheLoose,   Amakuru and   Hog Farm. However, all their points are now swept away and everyone starts afresh in the final round.

Round 4 saw the achievement of 18 featured articles and 157 good articles.   Bilorv scored for a 25-article good topic on Black Mirror but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final round. There was enthusiasm for FARs, with 89 being performed, and there were 63 GARs and around 100 DYKs during the round. As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it to the final round; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For other contestants, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. Steve Davis

Hi Lee

I hope you're well. I just wanted to check something with you about the Steve Davis article. I know this may be a sore point, as I raised the issue at the FAC that I think more detail is needed about his career. But I was wondering if you're lacking sources for achieving that, and if so if it's something I could help you with through material at the British Library? Just to name one example, they have copies of Snooker Scene going back through time but it's possible you already have all the old copies of that. Also, there might be reports of tournaments in newspapers but there's the problem of knowing which one to pick! I guess for my perspective, what I was looking for was career detail on a similar level to Milos Raonic. That means that any significant tournaments that Davis played - perhaps including the 1979 Pontins Professional, 1981 International Open, 1984 Classic (snooker) and so on, should be mentioned alongside his world championship performances, in a chronological narrative. Anyway, if you can think of anything that I can access from the catalogue then do let me know. I can photograph things and email them to you. I'm hoping to make a visit there tomorrow but will also go back periodically in the future too, so no hurry. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 16:48, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi Amakuru, not sour at all! I will take it to FAC again, but I've got a few other pieces open. I have BNA access; and I know Benny has certain snooker scene issues. I will totally message you if I get stuck though! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:05, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Lee Vilenski/Archives/2021,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

Hi Lee...I appreciate your comments . I ONLY had anything to do with Stan Shaffer's pictures as credits show. No one saw or had control over text again as credits show. What about all the other topics that are verifiable. Also I have been approached by Tatler magazine to do an interview for a second time. I'm not sure who to talk to about advice on my particular situation and questions. I don't think this is the page for me as I am not into snooker and definitely not your age group! Please advise anyone. Many thanks LokiOttawa (talk) 11:29, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Million Dollar Title

Hello, Vilenski. I send to you this message since you are an admin and a pro wrestling user. Can you help us? There is a discussion over the status of the Million Dollar Championship. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 13:38, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

The problem is that, 30 days ago, Cameron Grimes won the title. But he gave the title to Ted DiBiase and looks like he deactivated the title. But WWE.com keeps tracking Grimes as champion. Yesterday, WWE.com removed the title from the champions list, so some users (VJ and Oknazevad) argues that this is a source for the title being retired. But, in the title list, the Million Dollar Championship stills listed as active. Cameron Grimes' profile shows him as the current champion. And the title is listed as active and Grimes as the ongoing champion. For me, this is not definitive at all. VJ and OK say that WWE.com is wrong and sloppy, but that's WP:OR and, for me, their own theory. Well, you can see everything in the project talk page. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 13:43, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
What do other RS say, cagematch etc.? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 21:02, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
sorry, at this point, I don't care. I will leave Wikipedia for a few months--HHH Pedrigree (talk) 21:07, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Stuart Bingham

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Stuart Bingham has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. You'll notice I masked a statement in the lede which does not appear in the body of the article and is uncited. Otherwise, I think the article is in good shape.

Best of luck with the GAN when you get to it.
