DYK nomination of INS Vikrant (R11)

Hello! Your submission of INS Vikrant (R11) at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yakikaki (talk) 15:43, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

I think, you should remove that Ashok Chakra image from your signature. Use of images in signature is discouraged and there is a community consensus against it (WP:SIGIMAGE). Thank you. Anup [Talk] 14:06, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

It's not only discouraged, it's not allowed. Primefac (talk) 18:53, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help

Hi KCVelaga,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

(Sent to all active AfC reviewers) MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:33, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

A request to speed up deletion......

You recently took the article List of office-holders in Punjab, India to AfD.But,since you were the creator and no other editors have made any significant edit to the article, you could nominate it under G7, speedily deleting it,saving a lot of time and energy. You may also want to go througthere entire AfD and wait for consensus.Thanks!Aru@baska❯❯❯ Vanguard 09:19, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

GA Cup

Hi Krishna. I just noticed that the articles you have been revieweing were not checked for copyright violations/plagarism. Therefore, while checking your reviews I found that two of your reviews have had blatant, 89% plagarism. From this point onwards, we will require you to check your articles for copyright violations to satisfy the requirement of having a complete review. If you do not comply, and we find another article that has copyright violations, we will have to disqualify you. Thanks! MrWooHoo (TC) 16:05, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Krishna. I just double checked the plagarism, but it turns out that those two sources that had had plagarism were actually because the website had used Wikipedia (practically a mirror site). Apologies for the misunderstanding. However, I still strongly recommend that you use Earwig's copyvio tool on the articles you review. Thanks! MrWooHoo (TC) 16:10, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
@MrWooHoo: I have used them. Anyway thanks for reminding me. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 00:04, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

List of National Defence Academy alumni

Hi! The sub-sections of this list are quite complicated and not easy to surf. Currently they are divided as Chief of Staffs (A, N, A), Wartime Award Recipients (PVC, MVC, VC), Peacetime award recipients (AC, KC, SC). Can this be revamped to simple three sections as Army, Navy and Air Force? I know it's a lot of work but we would bring down 10 lists to just 3. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 10:23, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Because they are of institutes of a specific service, not like how we have here where all three services are catered to. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 13:53, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
@Dharmadhyaksha: I don't have any opinion on this. Actually the list have also passed an A-Class review from MILHIS. I would like to ping AustralianRupert, the lead coordinator of MILHIS, to comment on this. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 14:27, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
G'day, I can see benefits in both approaches, but to be honest I don't know much about lists. The best suggestion I have would be to put the list through FLC to see what they say about it, or ask some of the regulars there for an opinion. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 21:50, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
@Dharmadhyaksha: Take this to the FLC archive page. So that community can voice their opinions. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 00:05, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

@Peacemaker67: Any update on this? I added {{Article history}} to the talk page, and what about the top icon? Also also posted a message on LegoBot's talk page. And one more, would suggest a c/e from GOCE before I take the article further (ACR, FAC)? Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 06:22, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
I'll put the GA icon on, we used to do it manually back in the day... I saw that you'd asked about Legobot, but I'm not sure how well patrolled that page is, so I've posted on the GA talk page as well. As far as Manekshaw is concerned, I'd ask for a GOCE c/e and look more widely at the various quotes in the obit's with a view to adding them in to give more of a sense of his personality. You'll also need to tidy up the citations and references sections if you want it to get through ACR. I'd use sfn throughout and use cite news etc to anchor the citations. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 06:56, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
@Peacemaker67: Thanks, and also sorry for trouble you had with the review. Actually this is my first GA, and also can you explain what do you mean by "sfn throughout and use cite news etc to anchor"? Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 11:39, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

ACC tool access request approved

Krishna Chaitanya Velaga, thank you for your interest in the account creation process. I have verified that you are identified to the Wikimedia Foundation and approved your request.

You may now access the interface here pending a tool root marking your account as identified in the tool database. Before you begin handling requests, please ensure you have read and understood the account creation guide and username policy to familiarise yourself with the process.

Please subscribe yourself to the private ACC mailing list following the instructions on that page. I also advise that you also join us on IRC #wikipedia-en-accounts connect where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and you can get real time advice on how to handle requests.

Please note failure to correctly assess requests will result in suspension of tool access. Account creation is not a race, and each one should be handled diligently and thoroughly. Releasing personally identifying information (such as IP and email addresses), whether intentionally or unintentionally, is treated very seriously and will generally result in immediate suspension.

Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day, and you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked as "Flagged user needed" on the interface. However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at WP:PERM/ACC.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Again welcome!  FastLizard4 (talkcontribs) 06:50, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello Krishna Chaitanya Velaga; this is a reminder that you are required to subscribe to the ACC mailing list before handling any account requests. You have handled several requests already, but you have not yet subscribed. If you do not subscribe before handling further requests, your access to ACC may be removed. Also, is there some reason why you have request 186793 reserved even though you don't seem to be doing anything with it? You may wish to review the ACC guide on the subject of request reservations. Thanks, FastLizard4 (talkcontribs) 12:10, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
@FastLizard4: Sorry for that. Subscribed to the list and also broke the unexpectedly reserved request. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 12:19, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at User talk:PradeepKumar308. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been undone.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continual disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. MPS1992 (talk) 22:32, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Closing RfDs

Hi. Re this edit, to close an RfD you need to do more than just editing the redirect. You also have to put header and footer tags on the RfD discussion, and {{Old RfD}} on the talk page of the redirect. How to do it is explained at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Administrator instructions. On the RfD page there are links for keep/retarget/delete beside the redirect, which help by filling in an appropriate edit summary when you click them.

I have already done this for Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2016 November 26#Ghair muqallideen - I was surprised to find the redirect already retargetted - but I am letting you know for next time. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:39, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

@JohnCD: Will note that. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 01:17, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

4th Annual GA Cup - Round 1

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

Greetings, GA Cup competitors!

November 28, 2016 was supposed to mark the end of the first round. However, we needed 16 competitors to move on, and currently only 10 have completed articles. Thus, the judges have come together to let the participants decide what we shall do. Please complete this quick survey to let us know whether you would like a holiday break.

There will be two options for what we will do next in terms of Round 2 depending on the results of this poll.

  • If the survey indicates that the competitors want a break, we will have a 2nd round after the break ends with just the 10 competitors who have reviewed articles, starting in January (with a specific date TBA).
  • If the survey does not indicate that participants want a break, we will extend Round 1 until the end of December.

We apologize for sending out this newsletter late. Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase!

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Operation Trident (1971)

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Operation Trident (1971) has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

You will notice that I archived one of the article’s citations (#1). I suggest that you archive the rest of the article’s URLs as time allows. This ensures that the article's references are available "forever" and that it doesn’t develop "dead links" over time. The site I use is https://archive.org/web/. Simply copy the URL in the citation and paste it in the "Save Page Now" box on the archive.org site and click "save". This creates a copy of the original page and provides you with a new URL to add to the original citation. If you look at the URL I've archived you'll see the syntax. You add the new URL to the end of the original citation like this: |archiveurl=http etc|archivedate=9 December 2016}}. Not all websites allow archiving - CBS TV news and the NY Times are two I've come across, so there's not much you can do about that unless there is an alternate citation you could use.

Hello. I noticed that you nominated an article for deletion (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Singapore Tamils). Rollback granted

Hi Krishna Chaitanya Velaga. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Coffee // have a cup // beans // 10:10, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

@Coffee: Thanks for that. Will make the best out of it. I am a bit confused, what is this "trusted user" tag? Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 12:15, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Sinking Creek Raid

Hello Krishna Chaitanya Velaga. Thank you for reviewing Sinking Creek Raid. Hopefully, I have learned from the 2nd West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry Regiment and this article will be easier for all. A question about the last two images: Do you think the Medal of Honor image and the Powell image should replace each other (put Powell where the Medal is, and put the Medal where Powell is)? 4th GA Cup - Round 2

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

Greetings, GA Cup competitors!

December 29th marked the end of the first round, after it was extended from its previously scheduled conclusion at the end of November. Because of the smaller pool of contestants this year, it was decided to keep sign-ups open throughout the month of December.

This extension proved to be very helpful as we saw that more users signed up and completed many reviews. Krishna Chaitanya Velaga earned an impressive 402 points, followed by Cartoon network freak with a close 338 points. Shearonink who signed up after our extension was in third with 170 points.

We had a rule clarification in Round 1 which was that many articles were being passed with blatant copyright violations and plagarism occurring in the articles. Thus, the judges have concluded that if an article is passed even if it has a copyright violation/plagarism, we will not provide points for that article as it wouldn't be considered a "complete review" under the scoring rules.

In the end, 94 articles were reviewed by 14 users who will all advance to Round 2. The judges had planned on having 16 contestants advance but since only 14 did, we are changing the pools in this round. We will be having 2 pools of 3 and 2 pools of 4 in Round 2, with the top 2 in each pool advancing to Round 3 as well as the top participant ("9th place") of all remaining competitors. Round 2 will begin on January 1 at 00:00:00 UTC and will end on January 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here.

Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase!

4th GA Cup - Round 3

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Round 3

Hello, GA Cup competitors!

Sunday saw the end of Round 2. Shearonink took out Round 2 with an amazing score of 499. In second place, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga earned an astounding 236 points, and in third place, Cartoon network freak received 136 points. Originally, we had plans for one wild card for 9th place, however it appears that both Chris troutman and J Milburn were tied for 9th place. Therefore, we have decided to have both advance to Round 3.

In Round 2, 91 reviews were completed! At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 7 months; at the end of Round 2, the longest wait had decreased to a little over 6 months. It's clear that we continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 3 so we can keep decreasing the backlog.

To qualify for the third round, contestants had to earn the two highest scores in each of the four pools in Round 2; plus, one wildcard. For Round 3, users were placed in 3 random pools of 3. To qualify for the Final of the 3rd Annual GA Cup, the top user in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 4th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 3 has already started and will end on February 26 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here.

Also, we'd like to announce the departure of judge Zwerg Nase. We thank him for all his hardwork and hope to see him back in the future.

Good luck and have fun!

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, and MrWooHoo.

Hello. You have four nominations open at the moment on WP:MHACR, some of which have outstanding comments from reviewers. I see you responded earlier to the comments on the list of frigates; I had intended to ask you to revisit that. I've un-transcluded Kodandera M. Cariappa for the time being. Please could you address the outstanding reviews first, and preferably wait for the reviewers to revisit in case they have more comments, before putting Cariappa back or nominating any more articles? Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:53, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

@HJ Mitchell: I understand that. Will get to the comments soon, got a bit busy. Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk • mail) 01:01, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Yes, I can see you've got a lot on your plate! For what it's worth, it looks like the list of frigates and INS Vikrant are close to promotion—if you address the comments on them and the reviewers return to support, then both would have the requisite three supports. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:46, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Qamar Javed Bajwa

Hello Krishna, Sorry to bring this up again but I'm curious to know if this article can be re-assessed for GA nomination ? At Talk:Qamar Javed Bajwa/GA1, you wrote (1) "The Education section is too small and needs considerable expansion." I don't think we're missing anything related to subjects education. (2) "Expansion of career section is also required." I did research and I found we're missing nothing related to his career. (3) "More importantly the article is not stable." Looking the history page, I don't see any substantial information being added recently and no edit warring history on the page so far. (4) "Has lot of issues with the MoS, needs a thorough copy-edit from an experienced copy editor." This can be fixed at no time. Look forward your comment! --Saqib (talk) 15:06, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

@Saqib: Sorry to say, many issues still exist. I strongly suggest a peer review, before renominating the article. Besides, the main issue is stability of the article. Given the subject is the current army chief the article ma edited randomly by any user and even IPs, so the article clearly fails this criteria. Anyway, I suggest a peer review. March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
