Mississippi Election Discussions

Now that the courts have decided both of Mississippi's Senate elections will be held on the same day, I have opened a new discussion about merging the two articles.
Talk:United States Senate election in Mississippi, 2008#Merge 3
I have also opened a debate about potentially splititng the special election controversy section into it's own article. Talk:United States Senate special election in Mississippi, 2008#Split Controversy Section Please read over each debate and weigh them on their individual merits. The subjects are not necessarily linked to each other.--Dr who1975 (talk) 23:15, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Response concerning '08 opinion polling map

That's definitely where I'm leaning, yeah. Although, I was going to use just two colors no matter how slim the margin is, and the margin of the projection would be posted on the state (along with postal abbreviation and electoral vote total). This would be for all states. If I were to use gray for toss-up states, a certain range would have to be defined in order to determine what states should be colored gray. -- Fifty7 (talk) 22:51, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

I just finished putting together the new map, it'll be on the article soon. It's just two colors and the margins of projected victory are clearly presented with each state, so as to not misrepresent the information. -- Fifty7 (talk) 02:35, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
It basically has to do with the fact that there's only been three polls in the past month in Florida, Rasmussen having McCain up 8 with a sample size of 500, ARG having Obama up 5 with a sample size of 600, and Quinnipiac having Obama up 4 with a sample size of 1453, all within a period of five days. The overall polling average has McCain at +1.1%, but just averaging all the polls doesn't make statistical sense. Silver's latest methodology is a bit more sensitive to trends and day-to-day developments, so Obama has a tiny lead in what is pretty much a virtual tie at the moment. -- Fifty7 (talk) 04:21, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

RFA !votes

(Re [1]) Thanks, but it's best to indent duplicate votes rather than remove them completely. (Don't worry, I made this mistake before also). –xenocidic (talk) 14:05, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

No problem. Typically you just need to add a colon after the #hash. –xenocidic (talk) 14:09, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Userboxen

You're getting lots of tips today! Did you know you don't have to copy the entire code for a userbox onto your page? You can just transclude it be using the code {{location of userbox here}}. For example, the most recent userbox you added to your page could've been added simply by adding {{User:LightSpectra/Userboxes/MT}} to your page. This should help keep your userpage less cluttered. –xenocidic (talk) 20:20, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

No problem! You might want to go re-find all those userboxen too and clean up your page code a bit. –xenocidic (talk) 22:07, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Hey thanks! =) cheers. –xenocidic (talk) 22:11, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

New userpage

Pretty good but you might want to use tables to tame those userboxen. See my userboxen subpage for an example. –xenocidic (talk) 22:38, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Help

Hi. Could you do me a favor and review the United States Senate election in Oregon, 2008. I removed a polling part that included two candidates that have dropped out. Another editor reverted the edit. The point is , that with the candidated gone, why should it be kept there. It really serves no purpose. I came to you because you have been helpful to me in the past, and I was hoping you could look into this issue. Please respond on my talk page, as I am pasting what I put here on to there. Thank you so much. America69 (talk) 18:04, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

as a self-confessed Canadian, I'm trying to stay as far away from any disputes regarding the U.S. elections as I can. However, I would gather they should be left in the table for historical reasons...the polls did occur, and there were results with respect to those candidates. make sense? –xenocidic (talk) 18:06, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Heh, basically you just have to create a user subpage. The easiest way to do it is to make a red link to User:America69/RfA criteria, write whatever you want in there and click save. Wisdom89 (T / C) 19:40, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

RfA votes

I've noticed you've been jumping into RfAs extremely quickly and making votes almost immediately. In some cases, it looks like you've had to remove your vote rather quickly due to an error. It doesn't hurt to wait a bit, read everything, check out contribs, and make a vote a little bit later. Gwynand | TalkContribs 19:34, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

OK. Although you can vote any way you want, you should be spending at last a minimal amount of time going through contribs to properly review that candidate, like Irid did for the last candidate. I'd go as far to see as making a personal policy for yourself that you won't vote on a candidate after reviewing them for at the very least 5-10 minutes, unless you are totally familiar with their contrib history. In a recent case you went from "Strong" support to oppose in the course of 2 minutes. Gwynand | TalkContribs 19:39, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

thankspam

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.
Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:23, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for weighing in on my RfA. I was taking it more seriously than a lot of people figured, but still, maybe I was asking too much. We can't all be admins; we each can contribute in our own way, right? Anyway, be seeing you 'round Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:23, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks!

  Thank you...

...for participating in my RfA, which closed with 119 in support, 4 neutral and 5 opposes. I'm honestly overwhelmed at the level of support that I've received from the community, and will do my best to maintain the trust placed in me. I 'm also thankful to those who opposed or expressed a neutral position, for providing clear rationales and superb feedback for me to build on. I've set up a space for you to provide any further feedback or thoughts, should you feel inclined to. However you voted, thanks for taking the time out to contribute to the process, it's much appreciated. Kind regards, Gazimoff 21:44, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou

Just a little note to say thankyou for participating in my successful RFA candidacy, which passed with 96 supports, 0 opposes, and 1 neutral. I am pleasantly taken aback by the amount of support for me to contribute in an administrative role and look forward to demonstrating that such faith is well placed. Regards, WilliamH (talk) 10:17, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Outdated election info

Regarding your recent edits to United States Senate election in New Hampshire, 2010, removing the polling done assuming Gregg would be Commerce Secretary and therefore not running for reelection, I reinserted it because the Wikipedia policy (I don't remember the link shortcut) is that an election is a historical event, not a tally sheet. Therefore, if it was noteworthy at one point, it's noteworthy even if the facts on the ground change. Besides, Gregg could still announce his retirement before the election, hypothetically. --Muboshgu (talk) 22:09, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Question

You stated that I don't assume good faith. I was curious if you had anything in particular in mind. I don't think I've ever stated that someone intends to be disruptive or intends to cause problems. IE's RFA

I've been following this RFA somewhat closely, as his interests somewhat seem to parallel mine. Given that, and given your !vote and comment, what would you advise me to work on and to be careful with? I get blowback from vandalism patrol, and I'm wondering how that would look in an RfA- in other words, is that a normal/safe thing? Or does it reflect poorly on me? You can see some things I've been collecting here and here. tedder (talk) 19:07, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

RfA Thanks

Thank you for participating in my recent RfA, which was unable pass with a final tally of (45/39/9). I plan on addressing the concerns raised and working to improve in the next several months. Hopefully, if/when I have another RfA I will win your support. Special thanks go to MBisanz, GT5162, and MC10 for nominating me. Thanks again, -download ׀ sign! 01:30, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

I've responded to your concerns and xeno (the person you cited) has moved to neutral. If you care to update your opinion, please do so before the RfA closes in about an hour. — BQZip01 — talk 01:21, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the feedback

Unfortunately, my RFA was closed today with a final tally of 75½/38/10. Though it didn't succeed, I wanted to thank you for your participation in it. I intend to review the support, oppose, and neutral !votes and see what I can do to address those concerns. Special thanks go to Schmidt, MICHAEL Q., TomStar81, and henrik for their co-nominations and support. — BQZip01 — talk 20:15, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

The best thing you can do is probably just make another edit right away and add in the summary "Oops, meant to say "assess"! Previous summary accidentally truncated" or whatever gets across that the previous summary was an error. KillerChihuahua?!? 20:51, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. As much as the support I received, those comments are hopefully going to allow me to be a better contributor to the project. Thank you. Very much. LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:02, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your support

I would like to thank you for coming out and participating in my Request for Adminship, which closed unsuccessfully at (48/8/6) based on my withdrawal. I withdrew because in my opinion I need to focus on problems with my content contributions before I can proceed with expanding my responsibilities. Overall I feel that the RfA has improved me as an editor and in turn some articles which in my eyes is successful. Thank you again for your support. Cheers and happy editing. --kelapstick (talk) 17:52, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Rasmussen

Hi there. Thanks for your work on all the articles about ongoing races. I noticed that when you add polling data from Rasmussen, you've been linking to their articles/press releases. When they update their data, though, they post the release for the new data at the same address, which results in all the links for an entire cycle's polls directing to only the most recent data.

At the bottom of those articles, there's usually a link to the toplines, which have static addresses and will maintain their utility as a source. Thanks again. — Bdb484 (talk) 21:57, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Additionally, please cite the dates of the polls you mention - your reference at Terry E. Branstad didn't mention a date. Unfortunately, poll results are somewhat fickle and subject to change, so dates are important with regard to the polls' relevance. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 05:31, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Headbomb RFA

I just want you to know that you should strike out your support for Headbomb if your going to oppose him. I would do it for you, but some administrator would scold me for it. Also, add another "#" before it so that it doesn't count. Thanks. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 15:07, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I was about to tell him the same thing. And I'm an admin but I don't want some crat scolding me about it!--Wehwalt (talk) 15:51, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. 2010 elections

Hey. I put the competitive election summeries in a seperate article to make it easier for casual readers, and not to mention that the races by state section had a lot of material. The only thing I did was copy and paste. But I also have other material on the page that deals with the swing districts of the past two election cycles. So, I hope to eventually merge the two sections together, having the race rating, summery (which you made), and the results of the past two election cycles. Doing this, we will give readers a full analysis of the 2010 elections.--Jerzeykydd (talk) 02:31, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Polling top down

You've added a bunch of new polls recently to some articles. Please be sure to put them in the correct place according to chronological order. Some polls read "Then->Now" and others are "Now->Then." While we've come to a consensus at WikiProject Elections and Referendums‎‎ to do them "Then->Now," not all of the articles are consistent with this consensus. Please be sure that when you're adding data that you put it in the right place according to that article. Thanks!—Markles 14:18, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
