In radio astronomy, the unit flik was coined by a group at Lockheed in Palo Alto, CA as a substitute for the SI derived unit W cm-2 sr -1 um-1, or Watts divided by centimeters squared, steradians squared, and micrometers.

This is primarily used as a unit of radiance or sterance. While it started out used only in Lockheed, many in the radio astronomy field adopted it's use. This can be particularly confusing when flik is abbreviated as f, which is the same abbreviation as the SI unit farad.
