NationalityIndian
Other namesBhagyam
OccupationDubbing artist, television host
Years active1972–present[2]
Spouse(s)K. Ramesh Kumar (1985–2011)[3]

CareerEdit

Bhagyalakshmi started dubbing in 1972 at the age of 10 for child characters.[8] Her first noted movie was Aparadhi in 1977[9] and became popular by the film Kolilakam (dubbed for Sumalatha). She has also acted in around 20 Malayalam movies with Manassu (1973) her debut movie (child artist).[9] She has the record of winning Kerala State Film Award the maximum number of times after dubbing artist Sreeja Ravi[10]

Personal lifeEdit

Bhagyalakshmi was born on 1 November 1962 to Kumaran Nair, who hails from Powaat Tharavadu in Calicut and Bhargavi Amma from Kurupath Tharavad in Shoranur. She has an elder sister Indira Nair and a brother Unni Nair.[11] She started her career as a dubbing artist at the age of 10. She completed her pre-university course while working in the cinema industry.[9] She lost both her parents at childhood. She was married to K. Ramesh Kumar on 27 October 1985.[12] The couple have two sons. The couple got separated in 2011 and was officially divorced in September 2014.[3]

PublicationEdit

Bhagyalakshmi published her autobiography named as Swarabhedangal[13][14] and selected in Nielsen Data. This is the first time a Malayalam book is selected for this endowment. A master in dubbing, the author has proved that she can also pen a book in a very descriptive manner. In her book she explains, a fearless person by nature, her book too carries the same fearlessness. When she mentions the perverts of artists she has faced in Malayalam film fraternity, she even does not forget the kindness of some artists of this glittering world. A book about her fortunate dubbing career but unfortunate marriage life, her childhood orphanage life and love failure after 40.[15]

ControversiesEdit

On 26 September 2020, Bhagyalekshmi along with two other ladies claimed to be social media activists inked and manhandled a mediocre YouTube vlogger Vijay P Nair at his residence at Thiruvananthapuram reacting to his misogynistic remark through YouTube following to which she was charged with non-bailable offences including criminal trespass and attempt to murder.[16]
