Just noticed Inter-Allied Women's Conference is today's featured article - congrats, really interesting! (Also noticed that it appeared to be attracting a lot of attention from an IP editor, but that seems to have been dealt with for now. I'll watchlist it for future in case they come back after it's unprotected.) GirthSummit (blether) 14:26, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- Girth Summit thank you, I learned so much writing it. And yes, lots of vandalism was happening yesterday to it. I cannot understand why anyone would do that. It is illogical to me. I appreciate the extra set of eyes. SusunW (talk) 15:07, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- There's no understanding some people - they just want to wreck stuff for the hell of it, and if it's about women it seems to be an even more tempting target. I've come across some really unpleasant stuff editing here - all you can do is revert, block and ignore. Happy to help keep an eye out. By the way, have you had time to plough through the handwriting on that will yet, did it throw up anything useful at all? GirthSummit (blether) 15:21, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- I haven't, but don't get the idea it wasn't appreciated. Been a crazy week. Had some friends drop in unexpectedly who were in the neighborhood (because, you know Canada to Southern Mexico is like a wee trip around the block? LOL) On my list of to-dos and hopefully that will be today. SusunW (talk) 15:39, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- And so, Girth Summit, having taken the time to read it over my morning coffee, I am amazed. Every daughter, son, godchild and grandchild, except Dorthea Christina is given a surname in the will. Why on earth would Christina's surname be omitted? Totally bizarre... SusunW (talk) 16:59, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- Oh no - what a pain! I'll go back to the National Archive site when I get a minute and see whether I can work out if they've got any other records associated with the will. GirthSummit (blether) 17:02, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- Girth Summit, when you have time, that would be lovely. I have a friend who now lives in Panama, but for years worked in Guyana and developed museums and cultural heritage preservation measures. I've reached out to her too, to try to see if there is more information available on this side of the pond. SusunW (talk) 17:13, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

- I'm pleased to see there were over 28,000 page views for "Inter-Allied Women's Conference" on the 8th. I think we can fairly assume that the efforts of the women covered in the article are now more widely recognized. There were 3,569 page views for your Marie Rennotte but most of the others attracted less interest. I must say, Yoninah and Gerda Arendt have been doing a great job for us on the DYKs. I see four have now been displayed on my talk page over the past couple of days. And I see your fascinating account of Anna Bērzkalne will soon be on DYK too.--Ipigott (talk) 09:11, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- That's pretty awesome, Ipigott. My personal highlight of the day was an e-mail from the academic who sent me her papers to write the article. Her husband noticed it was the featured article and she said she was glad to have helped lead to broader exposure of the women. Very cool for me. I was pretty stoked to have contributed to both the FA and DYK lead articles for IWD. @Yoninah and Gerda Arendt: are fabulous! I really appreciate their work to help promote articles on women. It's hard to write them and then "market" them, but I am going to try to do more GA reviews this year to help on that score. Bērzkalne was one of those serendipitous finds as was Bríd Mahon. So many women whose stories need to be told, so little time. SusunW (talk) 15:44, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- I too am always very happy to receive recognition for my biographies, both from the subjects themselves or those associated with the more historical ones. Despite all the discussions about misrepresentations of living people, I have not yet experienced any serious misgivings from anyone, only expressions of thanks and constructive suggestions for additions. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with.--Ipigott (talk) 16:46, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Anca Giurchescu
I found the following snippet about her daughter:
“She was born on 28 March 1959, in Bucharest, the daughter of Mircea and Rodica Maria Anca... In 1979, together with her parents, she left for Denmark on a cultural exchange, remaining there illegally... Her parents are Mircea Giurchescu, born 15 June 1930, in Petrosani, Hunedoara; and Rodica Maria Anca Giurchescu (née Ciortea), born 19 December 1930, in Bucharest, the daughter of Marin and Livia, former researcher at the Institute of ethnological research and dialectology in Bucharest.”
I hope it helps, and good luck. - Biruitorul Talk 00:52, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Anna Bērzkalne
On 17 March 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Anna Bērzkalne, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Latvian folklorist Anna Bērzkalne wrote her 1942 doctoral thesis in English instead of German as a form of non-violent resistance to the Nazi occupation of Latvia during World War II? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Anna Bērzkalne. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Anna Bērzkalne), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

One more request
Hi,
Once again I do have one more request. Since article Aurat March could get a weeks protection against vandalism; I could spare my time for few other women issues articles I will let you know about them subsequently.
Purpose of this request is I came across a Pakistani feminist article Marvi Sirmed. Article history indicates it was always vandalized since it's inception but previous fortnight seems to have got highest misogynist attacks. In last two days I worked on this article. Included criticism section so vandalism will get more in one section & easy to manage and remaining sections will be safer. I also listed useful refs on talk page too.
This time, as and when time permits you, support I am requesting copy edit & section update support specially in section Marvi Sirmed#Sociopolitical_Views and q:Marvi Sirmed (on wikiquotes). You will find my thoughts funny but I think vandals are any ways going to make come back so let us give them chance to read some progressive thoughts every time they come back for repeating vandalism.:)
Thanks and warm regards

- Eek! The verbiage "otherwise it might fail" is a bit ominous, considering that I have no control if someone answers the query at RS notice board. Eddie891 I would ask that if no one answers you, that you give me a heads up before you fail the article, so that we can discuss it further. I have asked no one, as that would be canvassing, but it hardly seems logical to fail the article if some third party doesn't respond. SusunW (talk) 19:08, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Again one more request
Hello greetings again,
Lately I did some more writing and the result is Draft:My body my choice (Feminism). This feminist slogan was much criticized and debated in Pakistan week preceding and latter this year's Aurat March on International Women's Day, subsequently an article came up about urdu version of the slogan but one was missing for english version itself.
I know the Draft:My body my choice (Feminism) deserves to be much better on multiple counts but I have done at least some beginning. I am kindly requesting your copy edit support according to your convenience.
Looking forwards to your kind support. Thanks and warm regards
Bookku (talk) 07:31, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- Bookku, this is difficult for me, as I do really admire the work you are doing to add women and their social movements into the encyclopedic record and am willing to help you when I can. But, that being said, I would not take this one to article stage. I'll grant you that there is a lot of media coverage on the term right now, but that is to be expected from a slogan. By its nature, it is designed to generate media attention, as it is "advertising". If a slogan takes off into a movement of its own, that is another thing (like MeToo), but if it is part of a broader movement, the information needs to be incorporated into other articles. I think it would lend depth to the larger topics of Abortion-rights movements, bodily integrity, or reproductive rights (or even Sexual consent). There are other views, so I'm pinging @Rosiestep and Megalibrarygirl: to weigh in. SusunW (talk) 15:26, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- Bookku I think the slogan itself does have enough to make its own article. I just think it needs to be tightened up. Adding examples of use in the media and more about the coining of the term would help a lot. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 15:35, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, Megalibrarygirl I appreciate your weighing in and I love that we have different views. Would you be willing to help Bookku on it? I'm hip deep in a GA review right now. SusunW (talk) 15:40, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for everything you do around here, Bookku. Like you, I am fond of efforts to add women's social movements, meetups, conferences, and so forth into Wikipedia. Mostly, though, I work on historic ones that have stood the test of time. So for now, I'll just take a back seat regarding this article. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:44, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

SusunW, Megalibrarygirl, Rosiestep Thanks for your valuable opinions. Basically it took time for me that, bodily integrity is nearest article regarding issues relating to the given slogan and for a while I gave a thought to merge the same there and I had diverted my energies elsewhere but when I saw saw Pakistan debate centering around much this slogan and even lately some lyrics ans art coming up around this slogan I decided to continue with the article with a thought that may be if at all needed can be merged in bodily integrity at a later stage -and I am still open to the idea.
One more thing is I don't know if original usage of the slogan is organic or not but extensive backlash against the slogan specially in Pakistan seems organic and once enough coverage is received can even an advertisement become notable? While extensive documentation of the slogan seems missing in popular media still primarily sources indicate slogan is in use for fairly long time of 50 years and enough of documentation likely to be present in academic sources which we still need to search. I will work further on suggestions given by Megalibrarygirl. While working on other articles at any point of time if you find relevant resources, then please note the on article talk page so that I can take note of the same in the article time to time. Any additional help is always welcome.
Thanks and warm regards

ICPD
@ SusunW, Rosiestep Hello once again.
With considerable contribution from Megalibrarygirl in upcoming article Draft:My body my choice (Feminism) seems taking a good shape. While searching on this article topic I realized that International Conference on Population and Development & it's recently (November 2019) concluded ICPD25 do have considerable diplomatic role in women's empowerment advocacy and also scope to improve Wikipedia article International Conference on Population and Development + ICPD25 section there in.
I will also work on it when I get free, same time requesting your support too as per your convenience, may be you want to share this request to some more Wikipedians who might be interested to work on the same.
Thanks and warm regards

- We've been coping very well here in Luxembourg where thanks to the good weather we've also been spending a lot of time in the garden. If all goes well, we expect to be able to travel to Denmark in late May or June.--Ipigott (talk) 14:37, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- That sounds promising, Ipigott. We were urged to self-isolate the first of March for 2 weeks and then that was extended to the end of the month. The first of this month, they issued instructions that anyone 60+ or with compromised immune systems should remain in isolation until April 30. Thus, we are in the house for who knows how long. Fortunately, everything can be delivered here, doctors and vets make house calls, and the internet keeps us in touch with the rest of the world. Please stay safe. Regarding Kateryna Skarzhynska
The Original Barnstar | ||
I just wanted to show my appreciation for your efforts to get the Kateryna Skarzhynska article to GA status. You definitely went above and beyond what many would do, and deserve credit for that. Keep up the good work. Kaiser matias (talk) 16:16, 8 April 2020 (UTC) |
- Thank you so much Kaiser matias. I truly appreciate your patience and queries which prompted so much improvement to the article. It is a fine example of the benefits of collaboration and how one question can set off a domino-effect of improvement. Had you not asked the questions, had GRuban not been willing to help with it or not found Alan Sutton, had Sutton not been willing to help or introduce us to Tetyana Safronova, or had she not been willing to help, the article would not have reached this place. I am amazed at what we were able to accomplish (while we were all in semi- or full-isolation). I am really grateful for the generosity of spirit for everyone involved. SusunW (talk) 16:29, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- This is also very true. Really shows the collaborate spirit of this project, and how everyone has something to contribute. Kaiser matias (talk) 16:41, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your incredible hard work to increasing WIkipedia's coverage of women--particularly those not extensively covered in English, and for always being helpful and kind. It is a pleasure to see and review the work you do! Eddie891 Talk Work 21:11, 19 April 2020 (UTC) |
- Eddie891 it is me who should thank you. I truly enjoy the opportunity to improve the articles I work on and am really enjoying our collaboration. Since I usually work in a fairly narrow field (non-Anglo dead women who had international reach) but across a broad spectrum (pretty much any field is fascinating to me), it is really helpful to have outside eyes tell me what may not be known to the average reader and to help with links (Linking women in to other articles in the encyclopedia is really crucial and probably one of the most neglected areas on here). I truly appreciate what you do and your patience when I may not have a ready answer. (Honestly, women's history is truly hard , or at least the topics I pick are).
