Replied to at my talk page

Hi, quick note as I'm running out of time and have to get going. I left you a message on my talk page. It ended up sounding like a universal cry for help but I want you to know I also would appreciate your opinions there if you have time. Sorry so short, dr appt, gotta go get dressed. Thanks in advance, --CrohnieGalTalk 12:31, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Can help me out with something?

Hey Pinky, SO GLAD you are back. :) While you were gone I had a little dispute a few editors. I assume your are familiar with the actress Alexis Fields, about a month or two ago, I was vouching to have the page re-created, With me immaturely re-creating the page myself. Of course it was deleted simply because there was a already a discussion to have the article deleted: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alexis Fields. I thinking about having article created once more by submitting it for Wikipedia:Deletion review. I would like for you assist me in vouching for article's re-creation, Would you be willing to help me?

Also, If you like to add your own touches to subject feel free to edit here: User:QuasyBoy/Alexis Fields, thank you in advance. QuasyBoy 20:36, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Stunned

Hi Pinkadelica, I understand if you don't want to get dragged into foolishness like this, but as I feel you are monitoring what happens on the "Clara Bow"-page and understands that I, as "Stovelsten", have "sourcing it up". Our rather was. In the Link-cloud, on the "Flapper"-page, a few day ago, I bumped into a guy named "Beyond My Ken" alias "Ed Fitzgerald" alias "H Debussy-Jones". The "Flapper"-page wasn't too bad, text wise. The choice of pictures, however, was confused, and I inserted a new set from the repository, as a first aid, temporary solution with a one-line explanation. Well. Then all hell broke lose. On the "Flapper" article/discussion pages, "Louise Brooks" and "Clara Bow" articles the battle left traces. Also, the deletion-page on the commons for the smoking Bow photo is important. When I boil down my view of this fellow user, "Beyond My Ken", he reminds my of a video-game player; He jumps the mushrooms, getting his credit-points, and he is so slick and aware of the playground rules, he stays off the radar, getting his thrill out of gradually provoking users into rage, sadness and retirement. He is playing the system. It got nothing to do with having different views, or the contents of an article. That's not why he is here. It's circumstantial. What's worse; I fear that since the "immune-system" of this community haven't been able to flush him out after five years, there will be quite a few of his kind. Forgive me for bugging you with this, Pinkadelica, but some kind of explanation for my drop-out I needed to communicate to the community. My best regards Stovelsten 81.231.109.201 (talk) 02:47, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

If you would like a third opinion on Flapper, I'd be happy to give one. Aside from that, I can only advise you to go through the proper channels (eg WP:WQA) if you're having a problem with another user's conduct. To be honest, I can't comment on Beyond My Ken's alleged behavior as I haven't had a problem or an encounter with him that I can recall. Pinkadelica 03:07, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I just happened to notice this conversation and thought this thread might be in regards to this discussion. If I am in error, my apologies, if not, I thought you should be aware of this thread too which was neglicted to be mentioned above. Anyways, hope you are well, --CrohnieGalTalk 13:33, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
Hiya Crohnie. Hope you are well too. I think that's another situation Beyond My Ken was involved in. Pinkadelica 06:01, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Good morning, (at least it is here!), I'm doing ok. Yea BMK was involved in this but he pulled the support from most of the uninvolved. Apparently from AN/i this was a dispute from the Commons brought here but not sure exactly of all the details because I didn't check them out. I just saw this notation and figured they were connected so in case you were going to get involved I thought you should have all the difs. ;) Take care, see you around I hope, --CrohnieGalTalk 09:08, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

I just wanted to apologize for getting upset about the Peggy Shannon article. I have tons of information on many early silent film actors that I would like to share with you. I am good at researching, but I have trouble with the citations like you said.Stutzey (talk) 18:00, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Reverting MoS image changes

If you're going to revert me, I sure hope you're going to participate in the discussion and detail your objection to the changes. Tag-team revert wars are frowned on. Yworo (talk) 00:18, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

By the way, there is no threat to revert above. Where did you get that? Yworo (talk) 01:24, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
My oh my, aren't you correct! I guess the whole accusation about tag team wars sent me into a tizzy. I have redacted my comment accordingly. Pinkadelica 01:33, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
My apologies for that "tag team" comment. It certainly wasn't my intent to send you into a "tizzy". :-) Yworo (talk) 01:34, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
No worries. Thank you for opening the RfC. :) Pinkadelica 01:38, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
No problem. I really hate running into zealously-guarded idiosyncrasies. I'm not very good at responding to wholesale reversion without at least a reasonable attempt at explanation. With image placement it almost always boils down to "I like it my way better" and for some reason the idea of actually justifying diversion from policy and guidelines hardly ever happens. I am starting to get the idea that opening an RfC is the best idea in such cases, though. Maybe there is hope for me yet. Yworo (talk) 01:45, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
I understand your frustration on the matter, believe me. Going the RfC route may take a little longer, but I've found it to be rather helpful in cases like these which is why I recommended it. I'll reread the discussion and try to wrap my brain around the MoS and comment shortly. My knowledge on images is limited to say the very least. Pinkadelica 02:13, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

In regard to this, would you take a lok at Yworo's current activities? He's once again targeting article that I've extensively worked on, apparently in retaliation for my changing the description of my layout on Talk:Flapper from "indiosyncratic" to "current status quo" (for which he warned me about vandalism). I have no desire to get into a widepread conflict with this very aggressive editor, but his actions are very concerning. Take a look at Talk:Preston Sturges, and Talk:Gramercy Park (and others on his contrib list that he's never edited before that I've been involved with).

I know you disagreed on Flapper that my layout was an improvement, and I respect your opinion, but you also said that you saw minimal difference between them. If that's the case, are these battleground tactics directed at me by Yworo really justified? In any case, I'd appreciate it if you would give them a look. Thanks. Beyond My Ken (talk) 18:46, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

I didn't so much disagree with you as I felt the changes were minimal and thought it was an isolated incident so I didn't think it was a huge issue. I certainly don't agree with anyone following someone else around and chiding them for alleged "bad image style judgements" [sic]. You're not violating policy and or damaging the project so that tact is really unnecessary IMO. I get what Yworo is attempting to do (and agree with it to a degree) but I think their approach to the situation is a bit....hostile in nature. If you feel like you're being harassed or followed, my advise to you would be to open a thread on AN/I or at the very least WP:WQA. I'll be happy to comment on the situation if you do either. Pinkadelica 13:38, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
OK, thanks for your thoughts. I'm still considering my options on how to handle this -- AN/I, WQA, RfCU, whatever. I've got feelers out to a few admins to get their advice, and they're looking over the situation. Best, Beyond My Ken (talk) 18:22, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Paul Bern article

I'm not sure if you were going back to this article but I want you to since two other editors saw my comment on my talk page and commented on the RFC. My talk page has a lot of lurkers so putting in your request for me with adding my talk page lurkers may at times give you the results of other going there too. Feel free to do this too, the more eyes the better right! Have a good day, --CrohnieGalTalk 19:43, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I have not been editing much lately, and that's unlikely to change in the near future, but I was glad to receive your note. I've had a look at Bern's talk page and agree with the general direction in which it is heading, namely that it's fine to mention theories as theories, but not fine to include them as facts. I'm sceptical of the notion that having a piece of information published means that we accept it as fact, given the amount of conflicting information that is published about many subjects. It looks much better now. The theory is worth mentioning, and the way in which it's now mentioned seems sufficient to me. There's not anything I could add, so I won't comment there. I will wait at least a week before making any changes to the Geraldo Rivera or Karyn Kupcinet pages. I did add comments to the Kupcinet discussion page and the sockpuppet page. Orphaned non-free image File:Mysteries and Scandals Logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Mysteries and Scandals Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 04:29, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

If you wouldn't mind..

Hi, I'm going to be leaving my computer so if you have time will you continue to follow this? The editor has now hit 3 rr last I looked. The edits s/he wants to make is unacceptable which you know since you already reverted them once. I hope you have time and are online to follow up with this. Thanks, --CrohnieGalTalk 14:55, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey Crohnie. I reverted the "mysterious" IP address that recently reverted you and left a comment on the talk page. I'm not sure what the user's problem is at this point but I do hope they take to the talk page. Pinkadelica 15:37, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

(ec, again) ::The Ip and the named account are the same editor. I was about to leave when my orange bar lit up so of course I had to look. Take a look at what they said to me. They have no intentions of going to the talk page and this reverting will continue endlessly so I have reported them, I hope properly since I've never gotten angry enough to report someone :), 3rr board. I'm going now but this annoyed me. Thanks for keeping an eye on things. I'll try to come back later if I can, --CrohnieGalTalk 15:47, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I figured they were one in the same yesterday. I'm at 3RR right now myself so I'm going to have to take a step back. I guess just let them continue to revert and continue to hang themselves. Gosh, all this over Peter Lawford. Some edit wars never cease to amaze me with their lameness. Pinkadelica 16:03, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
I am thinking something else is going on here. Three different editors reverting us with no one using the talk page after being asked to and with me going there. Maybe I should remove the 3rr noticeboard comments and take it to ani to have administrator look at all three accounts. I don't remember getting into a situation quite like this before, have you? What do you suggest we do other than allowing them to add a lot of stuff that is unsourced, some is trivia and other is gossip and not encyclopedic? I can't quite leave you with this mess now can I? I just don't feel right leaving it to you. So how to proceed is now the question. --CrohnieGalTalk 16:13, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
I've asked for advice/help with this from Sarek. I figured getting an administrator to help take a look at this has to be helpful because I'm totally confused by the different editors though I do have an opinion about it, I would rather not say yet.  ;) Stay well and sane, :) --CrohnieGalTalk 16:30, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Eh, it's not that bad. I do appreciate your help and not leaving me to it myself though. I don't think there's three editors involved here - just BHillbillies. BHillbillies has been adding various (unsourced) content to the article for the past week or so and kinda working up to adding the gossipy/unnneeded bits. (S)he added the large amount of content yesterday and was reverted by an IP. That's when the 89. IP address popped up to revert. I'm assuming good faith here, but I believe the first time the IP reverted it was BHillbillies unaware that they were logged out. However, I believe the other times the IP reverted BHillbillies was aware they weren't logged in and was attempting to avoid detection. I think IGG8998 is unrelated to BHillbillies and just popped up to add that useless trivia by chance. I could be wrong but I don't think there's anything going on here but someone who really wants to use push a bunch of unencyclopedic crap into this article and thinks the rest of us are morons who can't tell that they're using their IP address to edit war. Pinkadelica 17:11, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Well one thing that history at this site has taught me is not to believe in coincidences. That a new editor, a third one to boot, just happened to show up to this article to do a revert, nah don't believe it. I think they are all the same editor. One chose to go to my talk page and one chose to go to your talk page instead of using the articles talk page both saying that there was no reason to go to the articles talk page. Something is wrong and I smell socks that need washing. I am in no mood though to fill out another form at the SPI board. I've never been to that board either to file a complaint. I hate the templates to fill out to get it just right or it gets closed unless someone is kind enough to help out. As is I feel weird about my post at the 3 rr board and have been more than once tempted to remove the posting there. I just don't like all these different boards that have sprung up. AN/i was so much easier in my opinion. Oh well, I guess it shows I don't like changes. :) Hopefully Sarek will be able to figure things out better than I am right now. I am having a strange day here at the project, just check my contributions. Talk soon, --CrohnieGalTalk 17:35, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Well I think I can leave my computer now. My report did get a response so the edit war should be over. I just need to stop by Sarek's page and let him know this too so he doesn't waste his time. Thank you for all of your help. It's always a pleasure when I run into you at an article. Ok, this was more frustrating than usual but you know what I mean. :) Take care and I hope to see you around, --CrohnieGalTalk 17:55, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Wow..that was quick. Thank you for your help. You always get things solved! Pinkadelica 18:38, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Not always but I do try to pick things that I know I am in the right about it.  :) Happy editing with your sanity in tact. ;) --CrohnieGalTalk 19:02, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for Welcoming me to Wikipedia!

Hello Pinkadelica, My first plunge into the "editing" world of Wikipedia was thrilling, gratifying, and I have to admit somewhat frustrating in navigating the citations. I need to add "page number" citations (as requested at the end of each numbered footnote) and am at a loss on how to do this. Can you advise me, please? I have the page numbers...I just can figure out how to insert them. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Find a grave conversation

Hi, where do you think this conversation should be talk about and how do we advertise the discussion to get as many editors as possible into the discussion? I'd think that if it was done at WP:EL we'd have editors interested and probably enough of them too. I think we should also see if it's ok to add imdb.com into EL since that too is an another site being said that it's allowed in EL but not as a source. I'd appreciate hearing your thinking on all of this. Thanks, --CrohnieGalTalk 10:23, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

The external links noticeboard was created for such discussions about whether links meet our guidelines. IMDB is generally recognized as an acceptable external link (although it is not acceptable as a reference). I've seen several discussions about IMDB that all have come to this conclusion. RE: Ernie Kovacs

With all due respect, I am putting the links back with one slight change.

1. The Ernie Kovacs Twitter page- This is run by Ernie's estate, whose main website is erniekovacs.com. Any legitimate updates to what is going on with Ernie's work are posted here.

2. The Ernie Kovacs Blog- Contributor Ben Model is the curator for the Ernie Kovacs Collection DVD set that will be out in April. He is a recognized authority on Ernie. The two websites that run this blog, erniekovacs.net and erniekovacs.info have been the only Ernie sites for years, until the recent introduction of the website for the estate erniekovacs.com. The info that is posted there comes from reliable sources. It is not simply a "fan" page.

3. I am going to change the link to myspace, as the one originally posted is apparently an offshoot of erniekovacs.net. The one that is now being posted is run by Ernie's estate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Taglman (talkcontribs) 18:46, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Josh Mills, who runs the site, is Edie Adams son. He links the blog; that makes it recognized. I really don't understand the problem. RealErnieKovacs is also their site. Attitude

"what appears to be a rather non-controversial statement" is in the eye of the beholder. I have no idea how old you are, but as someone who watched the original series as it aired, it seemed to me to be an extremely unlikely statement, as it apparently did to the person who wrote the source you added (thank you, by the way), because they indicate that they inquired more deeply about it, and their inquiries were rebuffed. I'd bet my next paycheck that 99% of the people who watched the series would find the suggestion that those two would ever reside together again to be ludicrous, and as such, it was highly questionable and not unreasonable to tag.

Furthermore, your hypocrisy is so thick it smothers. You chide me for not leaving an edit summary here and yet you leave this edit here with no explanation whatsoever. My intent was crystal clear; there is no other interpretation for what I did other than the fact that I question the veracity of the statement. On the other hand, what was the reason for your edit? Did you revert me because you think that the sourcing is already located in the article? Do you disapprove of tags mid-article? Or is it something else altogether? You claim to give IP editors their due, but at least one interpretation of your actions is that you simply revert IP editors at your whim. It was you, not I, who committed the greater error in failing to explain via edit summary.

It's not fair to judge someone based upon one interaction, but I've seen folks around here who criticize others for faults they possess themselves, dump on IP editors, and then delete critical comments like this from their talk page because their skin is so thin they confuse legitimate criticism with personal attack. I guess we'll not need long to see if you fit in that category. 98.82.216.91 (talk) 03:48, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

It appears that you are more interested in droning on about your half baked ideas of how I dislike IP editors than discussing the actual issue (which is resolved at this point making this discussion moot). If I had a problem with a tag in an article, I wouldn't simply revert it out as that doesn't solve the problem. If you'll note, once you took the time to explain why you added the tag (albeit in a rather rude edit summary), I added a source. In short, a simple explanation of your actions (which is actually encouraged because it helps those of us who actually find sources) solved the problem rather quickly. Since you're obviously not getting the whole save the "typical ignorant anon IP hatred" rhetoric for those who actually care enough to dislike an anonymous person, we're done here. Any further communication can be done via the article talk page. Pinkadelica 06:15, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
If I had a problem with a tag in an article, I wouldn't simply revert it out as that doesn't solve the problem.. Really? But that's exactly what you did. And as I said here above, an "explanation" of why a "citation needed" tag is placed on a specific statement does not require explanation (at least, not for anyone that has been editing Wikipedia as long as you apparently have). I did thank you for placing the source, and that's the most important thing that came out of this. But you've still tried to rewrite history and cover up your unjustified revert of my tag.
You are right, the larger point is moot, with your kind insertion of a source, and I plan no further comment on this specific matter. But I've also seen enough that I plan to monitor you and your actions in the future. What does that mean? Only that when you engage in future dishonesty (denying committing unexplained reverts of good faith edits, or criticizing others for doing what you yourself are doing, and such), I will challenge you. And it looks like you do not handle being challenged well, so I wouldn't be surprised if other parties will need to be brought into the matter. 98.82.216.91 (talk) 06:42, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Gino Piserchio

Thank you for your work on Eugene "Gino" Piserchio's page. He and I graduated Livingston (NJ) HS together in 1962. The folks had him as an Italian actor (his grandfather arrived in America where Gene's father was born). Why do people write stuff they know nothing about? Wasn't his brush with royalty interesting? His former wife still is active in high social circles in NYC. Anyway, thanks, again.

Sorry. Didn't mean to sound peevish. After all, it was really nice for you to get "Gino" Piserchio mentioned to start with. Yes, I do need help. I scanned his high school picture (1962) from our HS yearbook. There is no copyright on that book that I know of... anyway, I own one which has the pix. The age is 50 (next year) so I guess we can say the pix is an antique. Anyway, the copywrite police bot thing is threatening to delete his pix. Can you sort this out for us? I have no idea how to... as I have such slim experience in these matters. Thanks so much.

68.70.27.96‎ running wild again.

Hello Pinkie, Parrot calling. Something needs to be done about this guy (68.70.27.96) Recently he planted religious and political incoherent lines & categories in the Clara Bow article, which I undid because they misrepresented the source - pages checked - no one home! I found that 68.70.27.96 in recent days made numerous similar edits on many other articles. I think he highjacks established sources to make his day. What do you think? My best. Parrotistic (talk) 15:49, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi again. The issue is bigger than I first thought: "68.70.27.96" also seams to appear as "Michaela Power 2011", or "Michael Power 2011" and is injecting nonsense sourced religious and political texts as well as doubtful categorization tags in numerous biographical articles. This is a reckless person(s) who needs to be taken off the field. My best. Parrotistic (talk) 20:01, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Sunset Beach

Hey Pinkadelica,

The reason I have removed "Ended" from the Sunset Beach page is b/c it is not on any other soap's wiki page and I think it is not necessary since everyone knows that it has ended. I kind of think it sticks out as being the only cancelled soap that has it in its info box. Thanks. TVFAN24 (talk) 22:55, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Fever

Do you have any information that could go in the Fever background section? I am really worried about that. It is the weakest part of the article and the only thing holding me back from nominating it for GA. Orphaned non-free image File:Rags to Riches Title.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Rags to Riches Title.jpg.

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:28, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

sources were cited

Hi,

You left me a message about the changes I made on Lauren Graham biography, requesting I cited ressources before making any. The ressource is cited in the article under number 2 where she states in the interview "I'm Irish Catholic", which means that she is still Catholic otherwise she'd have said that she was brought up as such.

Changes to Spanky and Our Gang article

Picadelica, Good job on the Spanky and Our Gang article, you made many small changes which greatly improved the piece, in my view. But I believe the notion that ‘walking’ pneumonia or cirrhosis might be the cause of Hale’s death, as Jeremy Simmond’s book says, is completely unfounded and in the article I removed the citation of Jeremy Simmond’s book , as I feel it does not meet Wikipedia’s verifiability standard for a reliable source WP:QS. Wikipedia notes that questionable sources are those with a "poor reputation for checking the facts, or lacking meaningful editorial oversight" and Simmond’s article on Hale contains no external source citations whatsoever. The book is interesting reading, but with no references it seems to rely entirely on rumor and personal opinion-- something that Wikipedia specifically mentions as indicating unreliability. In my view Simmonds is actually indicating that he himself is uncertain of the cause of death when he writes (p. 23): "There have been conflicting verdicts of 'walking' pneumonia or cirrhosis of the liver, though some reports also suggest that he may have died as a result of carbon-monoxide poisoning due to a faulty heater").

My use of the phrase “see Discussion” is not meant to provide verifiability to a statement in the article, I merely wanted to direct readers to a description of the events which led to the deduction of carbon monoxide as a cause of death. I feel that my statement has been helpful to Hale’s many friends and to other extended family members, who were very skeptical of the coroner’s reported cause of death (bronchopneumonia). Malcolm seemed to be in perfect health earlier on the evening of his death. I could not put my statement in the main article as it would be against Wikipedia’s No Original Research policy. I felt there would be no objection to its placement on the talk page. Emhale (talk) 18:57, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Pinkadelica,
I appreciate your addressing this disagreement using Wikipedia guidelines; I shall abide by the Verifiability Notice Board decision regarding Simmonds’ book as a verifiable source. I’ll go in a few days to the Notice Board and try to make my case (I’m trying to improve my Wikipedia chops --I am still a bit unsure of some methods). I appreciate your acknowledgement that you are sure I have the correct information regarding Hale’s cause of death but that we still need a reliable, third-party that supports the assertion. I do understand that current guidelines are that verifiability, not truth, is the threshold for inclusion in the article.
I am reconsidering my use of “See Discussion”. As I mentioned earlier, my intent in directing readers to the Discussion Page was not to try to provide support for the statement in the article that monoxide was the cause of death (I simply hoped it would go unchallenged). Support for monoxide as the cause of death is now provided by the Longo book citation. But I do agree now that “See Discussion” is probably not allowable. It was an effort to lead readers to the back-story which describes the sequence of steps which resulted in my conclusion that carbon monoxide was the cause of death. I felt the story was of interest. Using “See Discussion” was a way to present it, but avoid putting it in the main article. It would be against NOR policy if in the main article, and it was a bit lengthy. I can see how there might be objection to this, and I agree the phrase “See Discussion” in the main article should be taken out. Emhale (talk) 17:27, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Spanky and Our Gang

Pinkadelica, I have at last finished my post on our Spanky and Our Gang quandary for the reliable sources/Noticeboard and posted it. It was a bit of an ordeal but very educational for me regarding how to use Wikipedia. I learned a lot about linking, mostly by using your examples and seeing how you did it. I suspect it may still contain some oddities but if so I hope they will be overlooked. I still am concerned about the lack of external references in the book, but my argument on the noticeboard is based on what I see as a lack of fact checking by the author or editors. I am not sure how the process works -- I suppose we hope for plenty of opinions and somehow reach a conclusion based on these 'votes'. I'm just not sure how this scoring is done. Emhale (talk) 15:34, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

There's something familiar....

In your knowledgeable opinion on the subject, do these edits tweak your Josh Rummage radar? --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 17:55, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

This probably isn't Josh based on the lack of edit summaries and edits made mainly to the infobox. Josh focuses mainly on adding categories regarding the religion of subjects and their activism. He may have changed up his MO and also broadened his scope to include alma mater, etc., but I'm leaning more towards this being else. Pinkadelica 19:11, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the input. The choice of older generation actors and the insertion of unsourced religious (and now political) affiliation tweaked my radar a bit. Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 19:30, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Lisa Lopes image

Hmm, That's weird. I do agree the new image should have been uploaded by it self. I mainly uploaded that image that while ago due to Ms. Lopes being a dead person and fair use images can be used for dead people. But I don't know how to make this decision, do what you think is best. :) QuasyBoy 15:03, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Sorry I thought that category was talking about heritage not religion...second I don't see a problem with American peopel of native American descent. It's a general category and she meets the requirements. I don't see it as over categorizing. It's not like there's 8 different categories for the same thing.Mcelite (talk) 23:32, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

"Visible native Mexican descent"

Hi Pinkadelica, a penny for your thoughts: Black 309 has been adding categories of 'Native Mexican descent' without sourcing to articles such as Rey Mysterio, Jr. He argues that their native status is visible in their faces and therefore needs no sources. When challenged, he posits here that there are many categories that are based on only what is visible, such as African American heritage, that need to sources. I would say that if a subject was categoried as having, say, specifically Kenyan origin, via 16th century ancestors, they would need a source. It's an interesting question, though. I'd value your thoughts. Best wishes Span (talk) 00:20, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Why do you keep changing Brody's page?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonwilling (talkcontribs) 17:28, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

good clean fun (song)

Hi - first, IF you are the one who "spruced up" my page, GOOD CLEAN FUN (SONG), a big thank you - it looks much better. I wish someone would do likewise with my pages for OH MY MY (MONKEES SONG), LISTEN TO THE BAND (SONG), and TEAR DROP CITY (SONG). I did my best with them but they need improved.

Second, yes, it is well-known that Nez meant the last line in FUN to be menacing. That's kind of the whole point of the song. You think it's one thing (a happy guy waiting to meet his gal for a happy ending) but it turns out to be that he's waiting to harm her in some way. Nez has said this as far back as 1970 when he did so in a magazine article promoting the First National Band. Many publications have printed this, such as Goldmine, and several Monkee fanzines. This info also appears in books about the Nez/Monkees. In 1981 I ordered a VHS tape of "ELEPHANT" PARTS from Nez's company; the sound on it was lousy and I called to complain and who answers the phone but Nez ... we talked a bit and this info came up and he verified it. I'll never forget him saying "that's the entire point of the song!". (By the way, as it turned out, my VTR wasn't wired right for the sound of the VHS tape -- he told me how to fix it). So, yes, this is true. I can't go through every old mag/fanzine/book I own to give you exact titles and page numbers, but believe me -- Nez said it -- Loose Salute! Attaboy, Luthor! Abbythecat. Abbythecat (talk) 02:49, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

no problem

No problem - just from a quick glance at some old mags I have, I see it in COUNTRY MUSIC MAGAZINE SUMMER 1970 ... MONKEES TALES #31 ... MONKEE BUSINESS #12 (U.K.) ... MONKEY SHINES #4 ... well, I'll quit looking. I've nominated the page GOOD CLEAN FUN (SONG) for deletion. Hopefully you can speed up the deletion. There's no point in keeping the page as THE ENTIRE MEANING OF IT is now gone. That'd be like creating a page about the alphabet and not being allowed to discuss letters. Just forget it. No hard feelings though. Thanks. Attaboy, Luthor! Abbythecat.Abbythecat (talk) 03:23, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

  • I left a note for you at my talk last night as I was unable to get to this page. I'll make the edit one last time and then I'll forget it. This isn't worth it. I also left notes to Armbrust and Finemann. Apparently I can't delete the page, & I'm sure you'll just delete the line again, so I'll live with it. It is pointless to post a page that contains NO KNOWLEDGE on Wiki, but if you guys want to keep this UTTER JUNK, go ahead. I've made my point: the article without that line is NOT mine & I disavow & disown it. If you keep it, IT IS YOUR PAGE. Not mine. I don't want the worthless page attributed to me in any way. I flush that down toilets. So, to all reading this, THE PAGE IS NOT MINE UNLESS THE LINE IS INCLUDED. Abbythecat. Abbythecat (talk) 19:50, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

I apologize, I guess I did over-react. I did as you said, listed it back with the reference added. That's all I'm doing with it. I leave the rest in your capable hands. Just to repeat, though - yes, I know this is melodramatic, but still - if the line isn't on the page, then I will NOT take the credit (really blame) for this horrid article. If the line is kept, fine, I'll take the credit. If not, then the article is, in my opinion (they haven't been able to delete those yet, have they?) written by YOU. So if you want the credit, then delete the line, and the page is YOURS. That'd be like taking the credit for (insert any historical disaster here), but it's up to you. As for me, I'll no longer discuss this. Thanks. AbbythecatAbbythecat (talk) 23:00, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

  • PS - In case you like the song, you might be curious to know that Nez also said the song "was about the light and the dark in every man's soul" and later said it was "just a song about revenge". I know, you want sources, references, ladedah, but I'm not going to list these quotes, just thought you might like to know in case you are a Monkees fan (like me). Abbythecat Abbythecat (talk) 23:05, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Thank you,for your help & kindness. I saw on the Monkees discography page that GOOD CLEAN FUN went to #29 on the A/C chart, so I added that info to the page. I also changed the info box a bit ... it said the single before it was "Daddy's Song". Actually, the single before it was LISTEN TO THE BAND/SOMEDAY MAN, at least here in the U.S. I have never heard of DADDY'S SONG being a single, except in the U.K., where it was released in 1968, before TEAR DROP CITY. I see DADDY'S SONG on the singles discography, but I wonder if this is a mistake ...? Or at least listed out of order. I also saw I WANNA BE FREE listed as a single -- this isn't true, unless you count a "Flashback" 45 issued in 1979 (b/w THEME FROM THE MONKEES). Maybe somebody should clean up the discography...? Anyway, for all you've put up with, and for your help and kindness, here's a big "ATTABOY, LUTHOR!!!!!!" Remember, beware of wool hats ... and then there is Whichita. Did NOT Mean Wikipedia editors

Hi - I did NOT mean Wikipedia editors. I mean people who vandalize my pages. I'm sure nobody at Wiki is doing this nonsense. I mean people on the internet who find some sick amusement ruining the hard work done by sincere people like myself. Again, I'm NOT refering to Wiki editors AT ALL. Anyway, I'm sick of contributing works that get ruined (by OTHERS -- NOT by Wiki people). Sorry, but these people ARE idiots. In response to this stupidity (that Wiki shouldn't allow -- there must be some way to protect against defacing) I've nominated all 9 pages I created for deletion (I hope I remembered them all). I'm sure nobody will care to restore them, but if anybody gives a damn, the pages were ruined by the horrible defacing of my page HORROR ISLAND (FILM). They can all be restored if this page is brought back IN TACT with NO tom foolery by outside sources. If not, then I hope you'll speed up the deletions of these pages ...

TEAR DROP CITY (SONG)

LISTEN TO THE BAND (SONG)

OH MY MY (MONKEES SONG)

HANK WILLIAMS: THE SHOW HE NEVER GAVE

TIM TAM AND THE TURN-ONS

THE RETURN OF BILLY JACK

A REAL AMERICN HERO (TV MOVIE)

WALKING TALL (TV SERIES)

PAT PAULSEN'S HALF A COMEDY HOUR

...I'm sure nobody cares, except for the vandals ... now they have nothing to ruin with idiotic offensive edits. I'm in no way angry at you or anybody at Wiki, just the dolts who ruin pages with remarks that are sexist and racist. Anyway, best, and thanks - Attaboy, Luthor! -- take care. PS-

Hi - I nominated my contributions for deletion. If they are deleted, great. If not, I understand there is nothing I can do about it, so fine. I took my stand. I made my point. I'm content. By "Wiki people", I mean anyone who works for Wiki, or reads/edit it ... I NEVER meant any offense to you guys. I do stand by my remarks against vandals, though ... I'm sure neither you or any sane person will defend remarks that are sexist, racial, or Nazi-like. As I've said before, and nobody at Wiki cared, there IS an "anti-Wiki" group that targets people, and I'm one of their targets. I'm sick of them ruining my work. These people are IDIOTS. I'm sure you'll agree that isn't to harsh a word for them. I have offered to help Wiki "get" this group of vandals, but nobody at Wiki is interested in doing so. And I'm tired of fighting them. They win. All they do is cause friction like this. I'm just sick of them. Again, thanks for your kindness - time for me to bow out. It's too bad the internet bullies win. A shame. I must apologize for my spoiled-child messages yesterday. I had a shingles vaccine, which has badly affected me. I had been taken off my bi-polar medicine, which totally messed my mind up. I went to the ER this morning. I'm back on the meds but I'm still recovering from the bad reaction (will take at least a week to fully recover). So my apologies for making mountains out of molehills. I noticed several pages I made were deleted, as I requested when my mind was in the Twilight Zone last night. Is there any way to request they be restored? If so, could you please give me a link? You previously removed the NPOV tag from the article. While correct, it does present some issues. It does not outline sufficiently the importance they have in real life not to mention the in universe fantasy setting it presents now and then. I am not even sure of the importance the article itself that is presented of Wikipedia since the main article about Kim Kardashian has far more information on how she relates to real life rather then the show. The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer First off, thank you kindly for your explanation--it's respectful and informative. My understanding of WP:SEEALSO is that it allows for related topics that aren't directly addressed in the text. You are correct that these two media franchises are not directly related, but there are two common elements in addition to the fact that they are fictional portrayals of Lincoln: both are farcical satire and both are based on supposed secret diaries (one from Lincoln, another from a house slave.) I have commonly seen see also sections that are about similar genres of literature (e.g. see also sections link together Yevgeny Zamyatin's We with Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four and Huxley's Brave New World as dystopias.) Since these share such similarities, I feel it is justified to have a see also section linking both, whereas this would not imply that all fictional portrayals of Lincoln should be interlinked. Of course, if there were only two fictionalizations of his life, these would be perfect articles to interlink because of the same rationale that I explained before. Does that make sense? Please respond on my talk at your earliest convenience. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 05:50, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Any interest in Hal Block peer review?

Hi Pinkadelica,

Would you have any interest in contributing to a peer review? I noticed you have contributed to TV and I'm trying to improve Hal Block. Have you heard of him? He's practically forgotten now, but he was a major TV figure for a few years in the 50s. I put it up for review at Wikipedia:Peer review/Hal Block/archive1. I noted that you said you are unavailable often during studies, but any help would be welcome. I've never done a peer review request before. Or, maybe you know a Wikipedian interested in old TV, radio or film business? Thanks, BashBrannigan (talk) 16:56, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Mindy McCready edit

I noticed that you removed some filmography added in the discography section. I think that rather than removing it adding a filmography title would have been more correct but when I considered this I also noted that videos were listed in the discography section. This seems odd to me. Your thoughts about this? Happy editing. Daffydavid (talk) 08:35, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Your AIV on 2.102.107.42

Their edits are not vandalism. You're both edit warring over a style issue. The guideline is on your side, but please don't report a kid who doesn't understand a point of view that involves changing tense in the lede, to AIV. I also have to ask you to refrain from using rollback in such cases. Thanks for your understanding. --Tikiwont (talk) 22:03, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

OK I see that there are more IPs and you've also asked previously for semi protection. I'll check further, but please mention next time that you're reporting for persistent disruption and keep in mind that in such cases your own reverts aren't of the same type as the ones for blatant vadalism. --Tikiwont (talk) 22:14, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

March 2012

Your recent editing history at Rosie and Jim shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Toddst1 (talk) 22:20, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

RJ Williams

Based on the the comment on the talk page I think that was plenty reason to revert the notes you made, but I see you went ahead and deleted them without trying to talk it through. I'm not going to get into an edit war here, as I see you already have issues with an edit war from another page this month that you tried to revert. I just advise that you think twice regarding this page, as you can see there are several 3rd part citations from very reputable publications that support every single thing on the page. I'm not going to go and revert what you did because I dont have time to go back and forth and you wont hear from me again regarding this page. I just really hope you seriously think this through, because you mentioned yourself when you claimed the COI that you have no idea which user the COI stems from--that is reason enough to just leave this page alone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.71.25.198 (talk) 08:17, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Guyanese-British hair stylist Errol Douglas

Hi Pinkadelica, hope you're well (and that school is going good). I'm the author of the Errol Douglas article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Errol_Douglas) and would very much like to add a picture of Mr. Douglas to the article page, preferably this one:

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&sa=X&rlz=1C1GGGE_en-gbGB457GB457&biw=1331&bih=612&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=O0hsGIY1rWp9DM:&imgrefurl=http://www.grosvenorlondon.com/Editorial/FeaturesArchive/Pages/ErrolDouglas.aspx&docid=QfyoLbtpxvKVSM&imgurl=http://www.grosvenorlondon.com/PublishingImages/0_NEW%252520News%252520and%252520Features/ERROL%252520DOUGLAS%252520photo%252520480x387.jpg&w=480&h=387&ei=nymPT_OYO8T38QOFnuGrCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=907&vpy=280&dur=1725&hovh=202&hovw=250&tx=129&ty=158&sig=109105162609378830666&page=1&tbnh=121&tbnw=150&start=0&ndsp=26&ved=1t:429,r:16,s:0,i:114

As a first time editor I don't have the authorisation to upload the picture, so was hoping you might be ablke to help (or send me in the right direction for help). I believe the picture to be a publicity shot (and therefore not restricted under copywrite law) as it's widely used across the web in various beauty/fashion sites. Please drop me a line if you need any further info (DaisyDylanDoyle@gmail.com).

Best and thanks,

Spelling: "lead" versus "lede".

I've seen your recent edit to the article entitled The Simple Life, along with, especially, your edit summary.
The first paragraph in an article is a lead, not a "lede".
Smiles!
DocRushing (talk) 01:57, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

The term "lede" is often used that way, as an alternate spelling.[2] I searched for "lede" in wikipedia and it redirected me to Lead paragraph. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:18, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
I've seen "lede" used by folks as well which is probably why it's saved in my edit summary thingamajig to begin with. As long as people get the gist of what my edit summary means, I think that's all that matters. Then again, perhaps I'm not being anal enough. Or is it anel? ;). Pinkadelica 02:25, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
It's commonly used here on wikipedia, so I was kind of surprised to see someone gripe about it - especially as it was only in the edit summary. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:28, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Nothing surprises me about this joint anymore. I cringe every time I get a "new message" bar. Pinkadelica 02:36, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
I wonder, if you take your page off your watch list, whether you would still get the message bar? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:41, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Hmm..I don't know. I didn't even know I had my talk page watchlisted until you brought that up. Pinkadelica 05:13, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
I have temporarily taken my page off my watchlist. Try posting a message and I'll see whether the famous orange bar still appears. I have a hunch it will, but we'll see. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 12:14, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Pinkadelica:
A few minutes ago I caught your more recent note on my talk page.
No, I've not changed or removed anything from your talk page.
However, when I began to compose my second note on this page, I saw that the additions by Baseball Bugs (along with his back-and-forth editing of his own words) had already disappeared, and I felt quite puzzled by that disappearance.
No, I assure you, I absolutely did not delete that material.
Despite what the history of this page seems to indicate, I'm at a loss to understand what took place.
On the other hand, somehow my second note here (a response to a comment by Baseball Bugs) has disappeared.
Here's a copy of my deleted note:
Yes, several times I've seen that usage --
just as I've seen also "forward" substituted for "foreword", "copywrite" for "copyright" (as on this same page), "it's for "its", "who's" for "whose", and "principal" for "principle" or vice versa.
However, the Merriam-Webster unabridged dictionary does not recognize "lede" as an alternate for "lead".
Therefore it appears that the use of "lede" is substandard at best.
Smiles anyway!
Now that I've expressed myself on "lede" versus "lead", I'm willing to allow that matter to rest.
Still, though, please know that I absolutely did not tamper with this page or anything on it.
BTW, I cordially invite you to visit my own website, entitled Bluehounds and Redhounds, a work in process which has begun to tell the history of Greyhound and Trailways.
Best wishes,
DocRushing (talk) 14:59, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
This edit of yours[3] is apparently what messed things up. Could have been an edit conflict, could have been a mistake, whatever. As regards "lede", I never heard of that spelling until I started doing wikipedia, and it's not in my Webster's either, and I don't use it. However, it is listed in EO, as I noted earlier. And you will find that lecturing others about their alleged misspellings in the edit summaries is not likely to improve relations with the average editor. I should point out that I DO like having English mistakes pointed out to me. But I'm not necessarily typical. Be careful. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 22:28, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
It turns out that the orange message bar will still appear even if you take your page off your watchlist. There may be some way to make it stop, but it would take some investigation. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:01, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Bugs:
"Lecturing"?
I've not done any "lecturing".
While checking on something in the article entitled "The Simple Life", I noticed the word "lede" in a contribution by Pinkadelia.
I commented to her about that in a polite and low-key manner, and she answered (on my talk page) by calmly saying, in essence, "OK".
So that was the end of that.
Shortly afterward you interposed yourself into a discussion which had already ended.
Please note well that I did not "gripe" to Pinkadelia, contrary to your implication to her.
Especially because we're on Pinkadelia's talk page, I suggest that we allow this matter to lie where it is.
I cordially invite you too to visit my website, entitled Bluehounds and Redhounds.
Best wishes,
DocRushing (talk) 00:21, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
I don't even recall why I was watching Pinkadelica's page, but in any case, your statement, "The first paragraph in an article is a lead, not a 'lede' " is demonstrably untrue, even if it's of limited usage. Beware not to suffer the fate of the user Cuddlyable3. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:32, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
BB:
Before your last note I'd already proposed "that we allow this matter to lie where it is".
I recommend that you also let it drop -- without another parting shot about the choice of words.
Please recall or recognize that the communication between you and me would not have taken place at all if you had not butted into a discussion between Pinkadelia and me, which she and I had already ended.
Good day!

Orphaned non-free image File:Earth Girls Are Easy.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Earth Girls Are Easy.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Replaceable fair use File:Frances Farmer Undated.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Frances Farmer Undated.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Chowbok 17:06, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Copyright Question

Thanks for your comment on my editing of the Undressed article.

  • I do not think it is appropriate for you to remove a link which has been in place for over 4 years because you believe it to be questionable. The page in question receives more than sufficient traffic for there to be far more than 2 objections, in 52 months, if there was a copyright problem.
  • Of course an article about a TV show can contain external links to where this TV show can be seen.
  • Saying "If people want to know where they can watch something, that's what Google is for." is no better than referring readers to Google or the library for ANY and ALL information found on Wikipedia. As Wikipedia is not supposed to contain any original research, it means that everything here can also be found elsewhere. It is absurd to not include information because there is another way to obtain it.
  • The guidelines regarding copyright state "if you know or reasonably suspect that an external Web site is carrying a work in violation of the creator's copyright, do not link to that copy of the work." Please remember that "reasonable suspicion" is far different than your "copyright is questionable" especially where the copyright is being questioned by 2 editors of out hundreds, or even thousands, of editors that viewed the article over the 4 years the link has been in place.
  • Just the mere fact that the IMDB lists this site as an official site should be enough to aleviate your concerns.

I will proceed to re-add the link. If you suspect that this site violates copyright, I suggest you get community input about removing the link at either the article talk page or at Wikipedia:ELN as nobody raised any objections between April, 2008 and May, 2012 which indicates everything is OK Kn0wItAll (talk) 01:28, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

I did state, very clearly, that there were two people who raised concerns. I never said that there were 1, or 3, or any other number. What caused you to believe otherwise? Since you are the person who wants to remove a link which has been in place for 4 years, it is incumbent upon you to address to community about removing it - not me. However, since you have more experience with editing, can you point me to the guidelines that states it is up to me, and not up to you, to address the community in this case? I, too, trust you will uphold community consensus if it does not turn out in your favor and not edit war this article, correct? Kn0wItAll (talk) 01:46, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
You are mistaken. Your own revision of the article, number 336564398, does contain the link. WP:BURDEN clearly does not apply in this case as it applies only to the reliability of sources and not questions of inclusion based on usefulness or copyright. As such, it is only fair to restore the content to the same state that it had for the past 4 years until you provide evidence of copyright infringement or the community decides so. Kn0wItAll (talk) 03:54, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Contractions should be avoided when writing articles

Could you please direct me to the guideline that states this? --- Crakkerjakk (talk) 06:18, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Avoiding contractions is not a Wikipedia guideline or I would have linked to it in my edit summary. Avoiding contractions when writing a formal or academic document, like an encyclopedic article, is pretty standard practice. Pinkadelica 08:37, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

I started my account with Wiki back in Januraury. My edits were sparse and mostly "noobish." I didn't really start editing until around Septemberish. I have encountered a problem. It seems that in my naivety I got caught up in one article alone, La Luz del Mundo, and thus I ended up in a situation where my editing is being questioned and I am accused of being disruptive and even having POV issues.

I have, before the situation that made me request assistance, made beginning attempts to branch out to other threads. Now the described situation is making me uncomfortable, accusations have escalated and my opinion seems to not count for much in one editor's eyes. As a safety, and to prevent myself from being a disruptive editor of any kind, I would like for someone to help me edit, especially the La Luz del Mundo article. By that I mean telling me if I am making a mistake, or if my proposed or past edit violates WP:NPOV or if a source is reliable etc... For example, not too long ago I added a new section to that article called "Discrimination." If you were advising me then I would ask you if it was a good move and you would tell me what you think.

I have an interest in religion, in religious movements. I would like to edit pages relating to churches, such as Jehovah's Witnesses. This church is one of my interests as well. I would like to also visit various pages. I still would like to edit the LLDM article since I have invested a lot of research and read various sources and so on. But I want to do that in a "good" way. And for that, in light of accusations and disputes, I feel that I need an independent voice in my ear, so to speak. Would you care to assist me in that regard?

Thank you for your time Fordx12 (talk) 22:03, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Out of This World

The NBC information was not added by me, so sorry, you have the wrong person. The GH information is relevant since a good number of OOTW alumni appeared on the show in contract roles, and not for short amounts of time (save for Christina Nigra), and in the case of Burton and Pescow, at the same time. You may consider it trivia, but many other people consider it notable. Many GH viewers have actually discovered OOTW after the fact because of Burton and Pescow's later GH notoriety, and for Burton alone, OOTW was a major stepping stone in his career, in the time leading up to his long-running Jason Quartermaine/Morgan role. The latter alone constitutes mention. --numbaonestunna — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.160.54.135 (talk) 03:09, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Lupe Velez contribution

Hello, thank you for your corrections on the Lupe Velez biography. I wasn't stating my information based on the Kenneth Anger book but rather citing another source. Furthermore, the Anger book is dated 1981 whereas the source I used is more recent study with more current information. I was pretty sure also that various television documentaries (Such as E! Television) on Velez also made mention of the unfortunate incident with the toilet. But in either case if it is not true I do agree that the rumor should be mentioned somewhere in the biography. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ariadavid (talkcontribs) 02:58, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Joan Crawford

Joan Crawford's daughter stated that Joan had lesbian affairs. Would that be adequate? Asarelah (talk) 04:14, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Actually, the policy of self-identification with the label only applies to living people, not dead people. There are plenty of people in the LGBT categories who died well before the 19th century. Its very well established among multiple reliable resources (not just tabloids) that Crawford was bisexual and had several affairs with women. I will be happy to include multiple sources in the citation for the claim. Sound reasonable? Asarelah (talk) 18:39, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
I also have a source for her bisexuality from the List of bisexual people from a respected film historian. Perhaps that would be good? Asarelah (talk) 18:48, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
Very well. An RFC it is. Asarelah (talk) 21:12, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Melissa-Ashley

Hello....again... I noticed that you took the liberty of editing my contribution to the article of Melissa-Ashley denigrating the urbandictionary link and the secondary source and ultimately dismissing the whole file as trivia. The urban dictionary was the only viable source I could find that didn't cross into the territory of pornography that adequately outlines the origin of the catch phrase in question. The video to the second source displays an alternative origin to the fad and supports the information given. I would have also linked the Kaufman and Kaufman video however wikipedia prohibits the usage of yotuube videos. Lastly, this is not trivia. The catch phrase is an internet cultural fad that Melissa-Ashley is accredited towards. Running the phrase through any search engine is evidence of this. The phrase has become intrinsic to the actress's legacy. And it is a disservice to posterity for wikipedia to dismiss it otherwise. So what do you suggest because I feel that it is important to include mention of the phrase in her article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ariadavid (talkcontribs) 20:26, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

re:Melissa-Ashley

The citation that you and another editor misunderstood is not just a link to a set of pictures with some flash. They are videos. A direct link without violating Wikipedia's rules could not be established thus the pictorial index had to suffice. The title to the interview was cited, anyone who wished to explore further I assumed would have been able to manipulate the contents through process of elimination. The link cited was talking about Raja therefore one would think that anyone wanting to explore further would click on the link and then click the behind the scenes interview with Raja. And how does it make sense that the Urban dictionary is not a reliable source because its constituted of volunteer editors when thats the same basis of Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ariadavid (talkcontribs) 23:46, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

re:Melissa-Ashley

Are you not apart of wikipedia's hierarchy? I'm appealing to you because I was under the impression that you are a moderator or some sort of figure of authority, are you not? Whether you are or not, I do appreciate your advice on what I've asked you so far. I'm a bit new to this website as a contributor so I'm still trying figure things out of how things work around here. I just get frustrated when I feel have something valuable I can share and then it gets either edited or erased because it feels a bit like someone saying that my input is meaningless... especially when I've taken to the time to add finishing touches to the wording and hopefully appropriate citations.

But you seem like a nice enough person and judging by your interest section I'm sure we have a lot in common.

By the way; how do I make my page as cool as yours? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ariadavid (talkcontribs) 05:22, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Hand-coding

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:20, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

re: Abigail Folger

My last edit on the Folger page was not intended to be a joke, I can't help it you took it that way. And how was my description of her death not factual?. You need to be more specific with you facts before accusing me of something. But please don't accuse me of making jokes, or being stupid, something I don't appreciate. One more thing, I've made many contributions to the Abigail Folger page, with FACTUAL information, something I pride myself on. Abigail Folger

So you were giving me the benefit of the doubt by calling me stupid?. Yes, the victims were stabbed and killed, which is what anyone would have concluded with my terminology. By the way, no one took issue with my wording except you, why is that?. And you suggest my changing the wording back to what I want is disruptive?. Disruptive to whom besides yourself?. Again, no one else had an issue with my style except you. But your doing the same exact thing I was, changing the wording to what you want. If you care to take a look, I contributed practically the entire section on Folger's murder, which had virtually nothing in it before I revamped it. So your simply tweaking what I already put out there. (User talk: Parallax74) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Parallax74 (talkcontribs) 01:20, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Revisions and revising

Pink:

Your changes to the page about Alex Haley's Queen have caught my attention, as has your edit summary, which includes a comment which you may (or, of course, may not) have intended with a bit of sarcasm.

First, I feel no need or wish to start a quarrel; however, I do wish to share a few thoughts with you and ask you several questions.

Lest I forget, I agree that your addition of “a.k.a. Queen” is good and helpful. Thank you.

Now let’s move on to the comment about “television (TV)”.

Yes, I agree that most well-informed readers in North America understand well that "TV" and "television" are synonymous with each other.

Still, though, our target audience at the Wikipedia reaches far beyond this one continent and its better readers. We seek to reach an international clientele, one which comprises readers who have a wide variety of levels of proficiency in reading English and a wide variety in their respective cultural backgrounds. Many people even in Canada and the USA are not native readers of English, and some of them have different degrees of difficulty in recognizing and understanding our terminology. Many other people in other parts of the world are native or near-native readers of English who are accustomed to cultural backgrounds other than the one in North America. Even more other people are not native readers of English who, with various degrees of difficulty, seek or struggle to study our articles.

With that in mind, when I write or rewrite an article or a major part of it, I try hard to anticipate the potential pitfalls of not only good readers but also the other readers whose skills are not good. I try hard to include every reasonable technique to help those other struggling readers.

That’s one reason for which I placed the abbreviation TV within parentheses after the word television.

Because I speak several languages, a number of times (while I still served as a professor) I’ve coached or mentored groups of foreign students and others who have a fairly good command of English without their having the insights into the intricacies of our vocabulary, our culture, and our history. Those experiences have allowed me to develop a sense about the potential stumbling blocks for less-informed readers or readers whose first language is not English.

Another reason for my having typed “television (TV)” is that I’m accustomed to writing in a style used in business publications, including case problems (used in MBA curricula). A standard practice there is to avoid using an abbreviation (such as TV) without first having tied the abbreviation to the related word (here, television) or other expression. In my second paragraph in the introductory section, I used the abbreviation TV, but only after first tying it to the word television.

That practice seems to be useful and helpful in writing for the Wikipedia audience as well as a business or business-student audience.

Let’s look at your other work:

When you revised the introduction, you rearranged the existing sentences in my previous version, and you copied (from the infobox) the TV network, the dates of the first broadcasts, and the US as the nation of origin.

The references to CBS and the dates are minor details which ordinarily ought not to be in the lead. They get in the way of the major details.

Further, you truly messed up the introduction. The most important point is that you left a barbarism, which contains an illogical misplaced modifier:

“Based on the life of Queen Jackson Haley, Haley’s paternal grandmother, Haley died in 1992 before completing the novel.”

When you reached the plot summary, you eliminated three paragraph breaks, thereby thrice splicing together related but separate topics:

First, you tacked the name of Queen onto the birth, the announcement, and the fit by Lizzie.
Second, you tacked Jane and Queen onto the proposal, the wedding, the marriage, and the affair.
Third, you tacked the young adulthood and the flirtation onto the childhood, the training, and the teasing and tormenting from the other slave children.

Fortunately, you then stopped.

Please do not misunderstand my purpose. I do not wish to fuss, gripe, or otherwise give you a hard time.

However, I feel downright puzzled.

Have I missed or overlooked something?

Do you sincerely believe that you’ve improved the subject page by making your changes? If so, please tell me about your reasoning or rationale.

One principle of the Wikipedia, one which even the vandals invoke, is that any user has a right to edit the work of any other.

However, that freedom to edit carries with itself an attached and corresponding duty and responsibility, which revising users often overlook – the implied duty of revisers to ensure that they have and use not only the requisite knowledge of the subject matter but also the requisite skills in writing, editing, revising, and rewriting – or, said inversely, the implied duty to refrain from damaging existing material or detracting from it.

Further, a related point specifically concerns the matter of one user who revises the work of another. The official advice of the Wikipedia expressly forbids remolding an article merely to suit the personal preferences of a revising editor. On at least two occasions (and likely even more), the Arbitration Committee has said:

"When either of two styles [is] acceptable[,] it is inappropriate for a Wikipedia editor to change from one style to another unless there is some substantial reason .... Revert warring over optional styles is unacceptable; ... it would be wrong to switch simply to change styles ...."
"Where in doubt, defer to the style used by the first major contributor."

That means that, “unless there is some substantial reason for the change”, a reviser should not merely remold an article into the shape in which the reviser would have created it – that is, a reviser should not just cause the article to look as though the reviser had written it.

Please know that my purpose is constructive, and that I act in good faith.

May I please have the favor of your thoughts about this?

Thanks.

Doc.

Communication skills

Pink, I was the one to have arranged the paragraphs in that manner. I did so for readability purposes, not for "kicks" as you put it.

1. There's a section that reads "NBC run", followed by a new section that reads "cancellation" underneath it. Even though it says cancellation, this is not the ending of the series as one might reasonably assume. With that in mind, I indented the "cancellation" section so as to make it clear that this section is strictly pertaining to the NBC run. Directly following this section is a new section on the syndicated version of the show. This is all the more reason for the former "cancellation" section to be indented, so it's clear it pertains to the NBC run and not just misplaced information on the show's ending in the middle as opposed to down at the bottom as the last section.

2. And the portion on Vicki Lawrence's recounting of the development of the Mama character does not tie in with the above character description paragraphs above it. And if arranged in the manner you've put it with no indents, it just looks like one big long-winded character description of Mama that needs to be cut down.

For you to revert these edits with the edit summary of "We don't get to make up our own formatting for kicks - stick to the guidelines" as you did here [5] is not "brisk" as you've so nicely put it on my talkpage; it's poor communication skills. Pardon me if I feel that poor communication skills are "obnoxious" but I do. Anyways, you've now shown multiple pages on wikipedia guidelines to try and support your statements. As said before, nothing on that 1st page supports that my use of subheads are improper. In addition, nothing on this new 2nd page supports my use of subheads as improper. There is nothing legally written that Mabel Normand was addicted to cocaine or any other drug.Robert Giroux was a personal friend of mine and in writing his book (which he consulted with me) he admitted his assumption is just that and not a fact. As Wikipedia is concerned for fact or reliable information and so we the family of Mabel Normand expect the same. During Mabel's lifetime there was nothing ever acknowledged by Mabel herself that she was addicted or involved with drugs.I speak on Mabel Normand's behalf and have for over 50 years and now at the age of 65 I shall be speaking out with authority and concern on the reputation of Mabel Normand. Legally one cannot slander the dead but the living of the dead have every right to be heard and acknowledged with the other side of the story, which in this case there is much yet to be done.

Thank you for your note. I would appreciate your presenting to me as well your "reliable sources", for as I see it there is much hearsay and rumour stated in your biography. Most of the negative information has been rehashed from gossip and comes out as slander unfortunately. My sources are from diaries, notebooks of thoughts and letters from family and Mabel herself passed down. Upon my passing these things will be made public as agreed by the family. Until then i shall continue to defend and uphold the reputation, career and private life of my beloved great-aunt Mabel Normand.

With all good wishes and appreciation for your interest in my great-aunt Mabel.

Yours sincerely,

American films cat

Hi. For info, the category Category:American films should contain all American films as per the notice on the cat page: "For convenience, all American films are included in this category. This includes all American films that can also be found in the subcategories." This also applies to all the other top-level country categories. If you have any comments, please raise them here. --Ste57 (talk) 19:45, 21 February 2013 (UTC)== Mabel Normand / My great-aunt/ Stephen Normand ==

Dear Pinkadelica,

You have no idea how greatful I am for your kind letter in return to mine to you. Having received your reply I feel like someone is at last listening to me, thank you. I live in England during summer and autumn and come to Florida for winter. Most of my material records are in London in my home there. As you may know I was duped by Betty Fussell as a character in her book in 1981. I gave her access to much of the family material though not all of the documents thank goodness though I stupidly gave her my own diaries which contain information which she twisted and made a fool of Julia Benson & myself..she also took my photographs including of myself and never gave credit for my photo collection ...this whole episode would make a book in itself! I do have information which will help you containing her faith and marriage to Cody..she would never have been allowed to be interred in the "hallowed" ground of a Roman Catholic Cemetery/Mausoleum if the Bishop didn't grant dispensation believing her marriage was never consumated..only a sacramental marriage would be recognized for burial...I have the deeds to the mausoleum which are authorized by the Bishop of Los Angeles. Her marriage though legal was a farce and deeply regretted by Mabel herself..they were never childhood friends..the Normand's came down to Rhode Island prior to the Civil War from Quebec Canada..Mabel's grandfather served in the Rhode Island Militia..Mary Drury was from rhode Island and that is where she met Claude George Normand and married...moved to Staten Island and there their children were born...Claude Drury,Ralph,Mercedes Gladis and Mabel Ethelreid..Gladis survived to 1960's and lived in Manhattan...I often visited her and chatted about Mabel...she as well as my grandfather lived at times with Mabel in Los Angeles. I am grateful for the promise of your reviewing the biography as it stands now..words like alleged, hearsay ought to be included with allegations of drugs and the word of Robert Giroux are not sacrosant in his book..his personal copy to me is autographed as such and when I am back in London in June I can scan it and other bits which you will find helpful for a new rewrite..what I detest most is that these accusations are written as fact when if you asked those sources you use they can not prove anything as fact..as you realize much of these things are rumours and reminiscences by people claiming "to have been there" like Anita Loos yet she could not prove it when challenged..there is nothing written in Mabel's lifetime that she admitted to being a cocaine addict..she was medicated with phenobarbitol for her TB to relieve coughing whilst working...this was a common procedure..Mabel's work slid because she was ill with TB and too ill to work...her brother Ralph died of TB when a young man (teenager) on Staten Island..Mabel was loved by her colleagues and was remembered by such..only years later when disloyal acquaintances wrote their memories in order to sell them fantazized making Mabel a scapegoat..Adela Roger St John's did this in her own book The Honeycomb when I challenged her replied why try to upset the fairytale,in reply why should her fiction be allowed to stand as the story of Mabel Normand...her saying Mabel was found under the rosebush of Hollywood folk as herself totally false Mabel acknowledged her family buying a home on Staten Island for her parents sharing her good fortune with them, inviting her brother Claude to Hollywood finding him a job as a cameraman and later set director and her sister Gladis living with her...so you see it's been an uphill battle of trying to present Mabel as a hardworking talented woman innovative in her pioneering of film and not really a tragic figure due to her own doing but rather like others experiencing the difficulty of living a private life which was quite normal but also having the instinct to be independent fighting her corner in a tough man's world where she was put down rather than treated as an equal with a thinking mind rich with ideas and technique stolen from her memory because of her illness and early/premature death...enough for the moment. I can only say thank you and please know I will go through my things and try to satisfy what you ask for..my lunch with Giroux is truthful however cannot be documented other by Giroux's diaries which he undoubtably kept however his dedication to me in his own hand and letters may be convincing enough, his conclusion was only a theory and not fact..I also request that you read what I said in Films in Review in September 1974 and even the ludicrous Fussell nonsense as she quotes my letters from Julia Benson and my own thoughts in my diaries...with many thanks

Yours sincerely,

I have never admitted to being anybody but an IP in the article and talk page. I am surprized by your tenacious efforts and willingness to seek out trouble on WP, rather than deal with the editing duties and discussions on the talk page. For that, you are a snitch and a bitch. Ya know - when I first got involved with McCoy and the tower tragedy as a research project for a film, I had enough info to think thatI could do a good deed for society. When I interviewed McCoy, he needed help badly. He just passed away on Dec. 27, 2012, however, if I had not helped him, he may have been dead several years ago. I first came to WP and wanted to share the info I had as a public good. Sure, I was raw and persistent, but as I started learning the rules, I would apply them, and then get into info wars because the information I had wasn't available to the public. This became a problem so I found some reliable sources and still had edit conflicts. Then while responding to a warring editor, I would go to save the edit, and boom, I was temporarily banned, a few more times and then I became banned. Not because I was wrong, it was because the other editors wanted to be right. I see things haven't changed, so I will not continue, except to say that Wikipedia, is a much more evil than Whitman could have been. At least he wanted to end everything. Wikipedia, wants to remember everything, without foregiveness. I'm sorry for the rude language above and the name calling. I've got a lot to learn yet, and the only way to do that is to stay away from Wikipedia. So Cheers and the best to you! BTW, I am mentioned in at least one of the references, this one: [[6]]

One reason I hate the media as reliable sources is that I said a whole lot more than the few lines in the article. The binge drinking was just one of the symptoms that I gave the interviewer of McCoy's PTSD. Any other symptom would have been better than that one. But, the media controls us, we don't control the media. Again, good luck!2001:558:6007:27:7992:7DA3:D702:EE6A (talk) 04:46, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Issue identified at Leno and Rosemary LaBianca

Hello, Pinkadelica. :) I wanted to drop by and let you know that somebody identified some issues with copy-pasting in this article, which listed it at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2013 June 5. Investigation shows that the material - which was entered many years ago - was placed by you. I'm afraid there does seem to be some lingering copying and close-paraphrasing in the article. I've changed the {{copy-paste}} template that was on the article to {{close paraphrasing}} and put one example on the talk page. I have not checked the other sources that were used. I am allowing it to relist, in case you would like an opportunity to review the material to see if you can help address the issue. Please feel free to let me know at my talk page (or {{ping}} me here) if you'd like to discuss this. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:57, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

I figured that was the case. :) Some sections are closer than others, but when you get the opportunity a close review would be a really good idea. Thanks! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:34, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Article Feedback Tool update

Hey Pinkadelica. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:58, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello there

Hello Pinkadelica, thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I am contacting you because I considered you to be an active editor who was listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Neutrality. It is my hypothesis that a re-branded "WikiProject" that is more "edgy" and decentralized could prove to be more successful than a structured WikiProject when tackling issues related to this core concept. So I have started something I named Wikipedia:Neutrality cabal. I've already gotten a real-life friend to sign up, and you might know how hard that is to get people to participate on this medium. I invite you to sign up/participate so that we can hopefully collaborate, build camaraderie, and improve the encyclopedia. Best regards. Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:34, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

On Record, Mae Murray

It is quite known that the film is lost. In silent film study a film with no activity is considered lost. The guy at silentera uses the confusing 'unknown' and he can't keep his website updated for films that are known to survive and that are irretrievably lost. He has a great resource in that website but it cries out for more attention. Unknown, adds to the confusion.Koplimek (talk) 15:55, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

thanks,. Anyone trying to prove something is unknown can't cite it. But you can prove something is lost, well because its not there. Just getting past semantics. 'Lost' has been used for over 40 years amongst film literati to describe missing or unaccounted films. Hence even the article lost film.Koplimek (talk) 19:25, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

RE: Wiki Project Fashion - Karl Templer Hi Pinkadelic

I wanted to contact you about creating a page for british-born stylist and creative director of Interview magazine Karl Templer. I have been trying to create a page for him for a few weeks now but I keep running into technical difficulties.

I have cited the book Stylist: Interpreters of Fashion by Sarah Mower and Style.com as sources along with a feature in the New York Times.

Please follow the link to my sandbox: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Freemans_land/sandbox

I would truly appreciate any assistance you can offer in getting this page up an running. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freemans land (talkcontribs) 12:06, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Better source request for File:Mamas Family title screen.jpg

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 03:11, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello Pinkadelica. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

I admit it re: Boston Corbett

I don't use Harvard refs, so forgive me if the answer to this question is too obvious for words... Why do the blue links in the refs at Boston Corbett not go anywhere after you converted the refs to Harvard refs? When I click on, for instance, the blue linked Jameson 2013 at Ref 1 under the Notes heading it doesn't go anywhere, just brings up your last edit in the edit history in that micro-window. I tried to look up what the refs are supposed to look like and if they get linked within the article to the listed references but was unsuccessful, so any help in this would be muchly appreciated. It'$ Only Money at Jesse White (actor) article

Hi Pinkadelica,

I searched for and found an edit you made way back on January 9 of 2008 at the article for Jesse White (actor) calling the 1962 Jerry Lewis movie "It'$ Only Money". We have an article for this film under "It's Only Money" with no mention of the dollar sign in the name at the article (at least per using a control+f search of "$" and "dollar"). I'm guessing that you had it that way for a reason, so if you can find the source you may wish to change it back with the source included, and also put something in at the article itself referring to it.

Best wishes, Hamamelis (talk) 04:32, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Forgot to mention that, yes, I did make the change It'$ Only Money→It's Only Money. Hamamelis (talk) 04:36, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Pinkadelica,

Nice work on the Kipp Hamilton additions.

This morning, after seeing her in an episode of Perry Mason, I did some research and found her nightclub act and the production of "How To Succeed…". Lupe Vélez

Hello

It's a pleasure to be in contact with you! I congratulate you for the valuable contributions that you have made to the Wikipedia Project.

My intention to contribute to the article of Lupe Velez is in good faith. Although i don't have much experience in editing articles, since some years ago i contribute to Wikipedia. You are right. English is not my native language, although i speak the language significantly fluent. I offer an apology for the mistakes that I have been able to write.

I was the one who enriches the article on Lupe Velez few years ago. At that time, the article was very poor. I am happy that someone else is interested in her life and career. She was amazing!.

Your recent version of the article seemed extraordinary. However, I find that you take as the main reference the book of Michelle Vogel. That book is extraordinary, but he's not the only biographer of Lupe Velez. I think you took as the only source of information the books published in the United States, in English. There are other valuable books of Lupe Velez published in Spanish, in Mexico. I took some of those books as my references, and I think have been ignored. I've talked to people like Martin Caballero, Moises Corona and others with information of first level about Lupe. Among my references even place a Youtube interview with the legendary (in Latin America) vaudeville star (or vedette) Maria Conesa, who met Lupe. In the interview, Conesa speaks about her. Sadly that was deleted from the article, and so it seemed a bit unfair.

I hope now that we are in contact, we can exchange opinions and views about Lupe. Your knowledge and extensive experience in Wikipedia, along with my own research, I think it may be something very interesting.

A pleasure to meet you and thanks for your time to contact me!!!.

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Page: Lemonade (insurance)

Lemonade Inc. is a New York City-based insurance company that sells property and casualty renters and home insurance powered by artificial intelligence and behavioral economics.[1] Rather than using insurance brokers and salespeople, Lemonade uses chatbots to deliver insurance and handle claims through its app and website.[2]

As of 2017, Lemonade offers insurance in New York, California, and Illinois.[3] Lemonade is popular among young city-dwellers in the 25 to 34 age range, most of whom rent and did not own property insurance before signing up for Lemonade.[4][5] As of June 2017, Lemonade has captured 27% market share among newcomers to insurance.[6]

History Lemonade Inc. was founded by Shai Wininger and Daniel Scheiber.[7] They founded the company shortly after Scheiber left a wireless charging startup Powermat where he was President, and Wininger stepped away from his role as Fiverr’s cofounder, where he led product and technology.[8]

In December 2015, Lemonade raised $13 million in seed round funding, led by Sequoia Capital, in one of the largest seed investments in the Sequoia’s history.[9] Aleph VC co-lead the deal.[10]

In late 2015, the company hired Professor Dan Ariely as Chief Behavioral Officer. Ariely is a professor of psychology and behavioral economics at Duke University and author of a number of bestselling books on the subject.[11]

In August 2016, Lemonade raised $14 in Series A funding from XL Innovate.[12]

Lemonade launched its first state, New York, on September 21st, 2016.[13]

Lemonade sold 2,000 policies in its first 100 days in market.[14] Of those, over 80% were sold to people who bought an insurance policy for the first time.[15]

In December 2016, Lemonade raised $33.1 million in Series B funding, led by General Catalyst, with money also coming from GV (formerly Google Ventures), Thrive Capital and Tusk Ventures.[16]

Lemonade broke a world record on December 16th, 2016 for the fastest paid insurance claim in history.[17] Lemonade’s AI approved a claim in three seconds.[18]

In April 2017, the company raised an undisclosed amount from Allianz SE, and an undisclosed amount from Ashton Kutcher’s Sound Ventures.[19]

The company launched in Illinois on April 4th, 2017,[20] and in California on May 10th, 2017.[21]

As of June 2017, the company has had more than 14,000 customers.[22] In June, it also received its license to operate in seven more states, including Arizona, Texas, and Virginia.[23]

Model Lemonade’s business model differs from that of typical insurance companies. Lemonade keeps a flat fee of 20% of a customer’s premium.[24] The company sets aside 40% mainly to purchase reinsurance from firms such as Lloyd’s of London to cover major claims that exceed what the premiums can cover.[25] The remaining 40% of the customer’s premium covers claims.[26] When customers sign up for a Lemonade policy, they are asked to choose a charity, such as Citymeals on Wheels, Robin Hood, and more than a dozen others.[27] Lemonade groups together the customers who choose the same cause, and their insurance premiums constitutes as a group fund to cover the claims.[28] At the end of the year, the money that is not used for claims is donated to the cause that is chosen by each group.[29]

Medical coding pages are wrong

Hi,

First time with an edit question. I so often find issues with pages, and there are a few I want to fix. However, I don't want to edit the specifics of the page but send a message to the most recent or most common editor with some update info. They should be able to update and fix the pages better than I can. I can see edit history not not all users have a page like yours. Here is an example

ICD-10-PCS, finds no page in Wikipedia and incorrectly directs to a page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICD-10_Procedure_Coding_System

First there is a specific medical coding system with the name ICD-10-pcs, there are actually a few with ICD-10 belonging to the World Health Organization. It gets very confusing, but Wikipedia has it wrong in several places and international or even national coding systems are a big deal and Wiki should have the info correct.

The page starts out with a "Completely Incorrect Title" The ICD-10 Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS)

ICD-10 and ICD-10-pcs are completely different as is ICD-10-CM and other national variations. So, for at least the WHO medical coding systems and those in the US, I would like to contact the best person (most edits etc.) to make the changes, although in some cases whoever made the pages and or edits really has it wrong.

Actually even the US gov website lists these systems in confusing ways and I can see how someone who does know medical coding (and actually I don't) would get this wrong.

https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Coding/ICD10/2017-ICD-10-PCS-and-GEMs.html In this website it almost looks like ICD-10 and ICD-10-PCS are the same thing and they are not. Actually I would not call them different versions. A Toyota is not a Honda, but they are both cars (or medical coding systems in this case). Wow, this was way too long, but what's the best way to fix\update Wikipedia pages on Medical coding???? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TomLaheyH (talkcontribs) 06:19, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

The Long Hot Summer TV series rename (no comma)

Due to new information, I ask you to consider reversing your 2009 Wikipedia article title rename of the 1965-66 TV series The Long, Hot Summer from its original article name (no comma) of The Long Hot Summer. Since your 2009 edit, someone uploaded the episodes to Youtube and the title card on them definitely shows The Long Hot Summer without a comma. Photos of the same title card are also now available in a Google image search. As further evidence, the TV Guide cover of April 9, 1966 here with series star Roy Thinnes also has it spelled without a comma as The Long Hot Summer. The same authoratative TVGuide.com website refers to it with no comma here and here. The mostly user-generated IMDb site is not an entirely reliable source on Wikipedia, per WP:CITINGIMDB. The TV series people must have decided to go with the grammatically correct no comma version. When you made the 2009 edit, perhaps you did not have these facts, so please consider revisiting your edit and change back the article title. Add a mention in the intro that it is based on the film, which does have the comma. Currently, the one-sentence intro does not mention that. Thank you. 5Q5 (talk) 17:22, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

Unbiased behaviour of wikipedia administrator Utcursch

Unruly behaviour of wikipedia administrator UTCURSCH . MR. UTCURSCH seems to be hell bent on defaming and derogating a few particular casts in india . If anyone visits his talk page , they can notice that most of comments are for removing derogatory words used for some communities in india , which hurts their feelings and self respect . Yet mr. UTCURSCH is not allowing them to do so . For example calling a particular caste of peoples bandits and thieves or even slaves !!!! Seriously is it possible in today's world . I think mr UTCURSCH is doing it on purpose to hurt and defame some particular communities. I request if an unbiased review of his editing and complains of peoples on his talk page can be done and reviewed. Today peoples look at wikipedia for information . No parent want their children's to grow up thinking they belong to slave community or thieves community. More over those quotations and cuttings are from newspaper or from british colonisers records — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.130.117.142 (talk) 20:02, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Writing an Conflict of Interest Article

Hi Pinkadelica,

I am an intern at a company called InteDashboard which manages the features of Team-Based Learning (a different teaching methodology) and I wish to write an Wikipedia article on the software.

However I am aware that I bear a conflict of interest. I am a new user of Wikipedia, and am a little overwhelmed on the numerous policies and guidelines in WP:COI. Additionally, I question whether I am able to source the company's website for describing the features of the software, as only a handful of third-party dependable sources describe any features. Would there also be any tips or general overview to get started on Wikipedia?

Thank you for your time.

urgent help needed with my Wiki page - query

Dear Pinkadelica:

I need help with my Wikipedia page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Michael_Cummings

I myself did not create the article. In 2010 or so, a librarian in a West Virginia public school did. She is deceased. Since, editors of journals having published my short stories and a former literary agent added to the page.

Recently, I made changes to the page, specifically uploading two photos of my book covers. But I did not follow protocol. Tags at the top of the page appeared, one after another, each worse.

I myself have not touched the actual article since this incident started six weeks ago, but have instead remained markedly earnest and cooperative and forthcoming on the User Talk page.

On my USER TALK, page you will see extensive dialogue between me and who seems to be only Wiki editor involved "Bonadea." She's well-informed and reasonable.

A few weeks back, she redrafted the page to sound encyclopedic, but she removed too much, I think. I had thought at the time, she was ready to remove the tags. Not so. She still feels the page is "autobiographical," even though I have dug up many links to reliable sources for her. Today, she's less and less available to help, as she is a teacher with a heavy class load.

I so much want the page to exist at its best. It would make me very proud, and I honestly feel who I am as a writer and what accomplishments I have made are of note.

But the paragraphs about my article become scant as the descend, and the entire page is lacking my most important accomplishments.

Again, I have available all links to the entirety of my USER TALK page.

My first novel won The Paterson Prize for Books for Young People 2009 (Grade 7-12), with a link to a reliable source. This a great award. But it is not listed.

I want acknowledgement of my receiving an Honorable Mention in The Best American Short Stories 2007, again a great accomplishment, with a link available.

I want acknowledgement being nominated for The Pushcart Prize - a fabulous achievement not listed.

I want all my 75 plus published short stories listed, not just a handful as shown on my page. All stories are reputably published is good university journals and commercial magazines. I want them presented in columns and set off my the lines of a box around them, as I seen on many sites.

I'v spent thirty years of my life - every day devoted - to becoming a writer of accomplishment. I sacrificed income and the great life experience of having a family I could support.

A few questions:

How quickly can you get to work on the Wiki page?

Do other editors get involved with you?

Will you willingly communicate with me here on your email page, rather on the USER TALK for all the world to see. I think "Bonadea" would prefer not seeing my comments, as I am the subject of the article, and would prefer working only with a professional Wiki editor.

I look forward to a prompt reply.

Thank you very much. LankyKeller (talk) 12:50, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Maryfrann.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Maryfrann.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FDW777 (talk) 21:23, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of File:SweetValleyHighSoundtrack.jpg

The file File:SweetValleyHighSoundtrack.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in Sweet Valley High (TV series)#Soundtrack. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE and MOS:TVPRODUCTION.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:21, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

completing the article for the existing artist

Hi, I would like to complete the article about Kris Kylven who is already mentionned on Juno Reactor page, but can't find how. His name is visible but there is no article. Should i start a new article and link it to the existing name? Where to start please?

For info, here's the text that i'm trying to add:

Kris Kylven is a French producer, composer, electronic drummer, and DJ of Corsican, Arabian, and Canadian descent. He is known as pioneer of the the psychedelic trance genre and has worked on a variety of records throughout his career, ranging from electro/industrial to ambient to psy-trance. Kris started programming drum machines at the young age of 11. At age 16, he was singing in a cold wave band called Dead End. In 1992, he became deeply involved in electronic music and has continued to work within various styles ever since. In 1995, Kris became a pioneer of Goa/psychedelic trance with some of his notable projects, including Syb Unity Nettwerk, Odds, UX, and Element Over Nature.

In 1996 Kris formed ‘Ultimate Experience’ (UX) in collaboration with Pete Martin. Their debut album, "Ultimate Experience" gained acclaim for its fusion of psychedelic trance and techno sounds. It was met with great success worldwide, appearing on over 30 different compilations and being released in 1997 by Dragonfly Records, a label founded by Youth of ‘Killing Joke’. Kris has been credited with influencing the Goa trance genre and bringing darker elements of trance music to the forefront with their use of rock and industrial influences. The group has toured extensively, and is still gaining a strong following among electronic music fans all over the world. Throughout his career, Kris has held various roles in different musical groups. He has been a drummer and remixer in Killing Joke and a remixer and co-arranger for The 69 Eyes. Kris collaborated with Juno Reactor in 2014 for live shows and studio support as drummer and remixer.

Kris Kylven's diverse musical background and vast experience in the electronic music industry have made him a respected and influential figure in the genre. His work has helped shape the evolution of electronic music over the years, and his contributions to various projects have left a lasting impact on the industry. Although Kris still plays live and DJs worldwide, he is currently focused on his solo electro/techno project, The Dark Prince. In addition to his work with various musical groups, Kris Kylven has collaborated with artists from other fields as well. In 2022, Kris created a video and remix for French artist Jean-Luc Verna.
