Welcome!

Hello Moonriddengirl, welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Our intro page contains a lot of helpful material for new users - please check it out! If you need help, visit Wikipedia:Questions or place {{helpme}} on this page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Also, I've replied to your question at Wikipedia:Help desk. Cheers! WODUP 17:59, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Thank you so much for your help! I've put up my first self-created page and nervously hope I've done it right. I went with a fairly easy first topic.  :) Now I shall probably return to cleaning up pages. Much more confident doing that! Moonriddengirl 20:18, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the simulacrum revisions!

That page need a rewriting bad. I've been wanting to do it for ages but it's always felt like too overwhelming an undertaking. Wonderful. DarwinPeacock 05:12, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! It had good bones, but I had no idea it was going to take me all day. :) I considered cutting the magic section, since the only reference I could find to simulacra in that sense was the Golden Dawn of Hizballah--probably not a reliable source. I thought I'd give somebody else a shot at finding something first. Moonriddengirl 11:50, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Revisions to ESTJ

I like the revisions you made to this page, especially the very relevant external links (as opposed to the usual online tests/spam etc). I think I hear the other 15 personality type pages begging for your attention! (I know nothing about these personality types, I just got caught up removing spam from them.) Thanks again! --Chuck Sirloin 19:50, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Thank you, Chuck. It's nice to hear. I tend to worry about stepping on toes. I'll probably take a look at the other types before too long. Moonriddengirl 20:11, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Revisions to INTJ

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed you made a revert on the INTJ page. Thank you for watching out for us and doing so. However, there has been some discussion on the removal of the Socionics characteristics previously. There were two possible reasons. One reason was the Socionics section was just confusing, and the other was the Socionics version is actually INTj, not INTJ. At this point, I'm going to remove the more glaring problem for me, namely all of the squares and triangles don't mean a thing to the average reader. Please feel free to discuss this issue with me. Again, thank you for your good faith revert ^_^. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sentineneve (talkcontribs) at 13:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry if I missed the discussion. RS Gracey cut the Socionics characteristics from a number of pages without explanation that I could find, and since I do seem them as relevant I felt reversion would probably be in the best interest of the article. I did look at Gracey's talk page and saw that several editors had addressed his or her cuts and that at least one type page had already been reverted. Consistency seemed like a good idea to me.  :) I'd be happy to enter into the discussion of segregating socionics from either Jungian type descriptors on the relevant page. And I have no objection whatsoever to cutting out the wonky (oops, there goes my NPOV) table. I cut the general table myself a week or so back, but left the specific ones because I didn't feel comfortable just hacking out the whole mess.  ;) I'll head over to INTJ to talk further. Repairing links to Parody

  The Original Barnstar
In due recognition of her diligence and patience in repairing links to the Parody page which had formerly led to the spoof disambiguation page, I do hereby award Moonriddengirl with this barnstar, and offer her my gratitude as a fellow editor. Lucky number 49 21:25, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Wow! Thank you so much! :D Moonriddengirl 21:26, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

What!? You've only been here for a month or so and you already got a barnstar!? You're so good! :-) - Face 10:22, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

RE: babies w/ barnstars

Haha, yeah, I know what you mean. I've been a member for about a year and a half, and even now, I'm still discovering new things. For example, I only recently found out that I'm apparently a WikiFairy. And two weeks ago, I asked on the help desk if there is something like a userbox that automatically generates your number of edits. When I saw the answers, I realised what a noobish question I had actually asked. Anyway, I do indeed think that most people consider it appropriate if you respond on their talk page instead on your own. I always post my answer on both though, so that other users can easily follow our conversation ;-). Cheers, Face 14:33, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I ran off to look for your question and responses to see why it was noobish (since it sounds like a good question to me!), but I guess they don't keep them around that long. In any event, I couldn't find it. What did they say? Moonriddengirl 15:18, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
I wikilinked the word "asked" in my response. And I think it was noobish because I could as well have searched for it on Google. Also, I knew that a COUNT query is a heavy task for the database. I just didn't realised it at that point. If everyone would use a template which counts all your edits everytime you load the page, Wiki's database would be as slow as a little turtle. Or a snail perhaps. - Face 16:54, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
LOL! Talk about noob questions: I didn't even notice the link. Thanks. That explanation makes sense. Moonriddengirl 17:08, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey thanks for letting me know. I did see it. I bookmark all my prod's and DB's and checked on it to see if it was deleted or not. I took a quick look at the new article and thought it looked very good. How did you figure out the truth? Postcard Cathy 23:22, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

vandalism

Hi, you edited my vandalism at the article, Beautiful soul. Well I don't understand why you all like to fix vandalism. WHats the fun in it? its really nerdy and boring. Try vandalism, its fun. I have been a vandal for 3 years and i consider myself a pro vandal. TRy it and you will see how fun it is. best wishes Kornokreep 16:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)kornokreep

I prefer repairing vandalism, thanks.  :) Apparently you prefer being repaired, since I hadn't reverted your vandalism to Beautiful Soul until you called my attention to it. We all have our hobbies. --Moonriddengirl 16:53, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for working on the article on Douglas Kinsella. You did a great job improving it. Now if only the anon IP vandals can stay away. --Renrenren 01:06, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

I've got it on my watchlist but it seems to be watched by very few individuals. So the past couple of days have been a constant struggle to keep the article clean. This page as well as Shit From Hell and Warren Kinsella have often been attacked by vandals. There is a lot of info about this on talk:Warren Kinsella. I'm pretty sure these anon IP edits are from the same gang. Obviously, they are by the same editor.--Renrenren 01:12, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the "warning"

I hope that you've calmed down now. Having read your blanked discussion page, I'm guessing you may have reacted in anger to the combined stress of dealing with some guy who was a jerk to you and with having an article tagged for speedy deletion. Both of those things would sting me, too. Or maybe it was something else entirely. But whatever's going on, it's not worth trying to deface everything. You've done a lot of good work on Wikipedia, and Wikipedia doesn't need to lose you. As a fellow D&D player, I'm impressed by what you've done. Moonriddengirl 00:27, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Got your "final warning." But I feel I am within my rights to get rid of articles that I have created and written.Malcanthet 00:32, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
AND...deleting my contributions as I see fit (I had other names other than my current one).Malcanthet 00:34, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
But we don't own our articles once we release them on Wikipedia--that is, we retain copyright of what we've written, but the terms we agree to puts it out there to be edited and used by others. If you're the only contributor to an article and want it deleted, you can request that. (In fact, blanking your own article is considered a request for speedy deletion.) Once it's been contributed to by anyone else, it's common ground and mass text deletions become vandalism. I can see that you've started a lot of articles--certainly more than I have, though I've done a few. They look like good articles. Wikipedia has a broad audience that will appreciate them. Moonriddengirl 00:43, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks much

I just want to thank you for the revert on my user page. Apparently I made someone mad, so I guess I am doing my job. Thanks for doing yours! WildWildBil 02:35, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting the junk that the anonymous users kept putting in on his bio page. Whoever it is seems intent on trashing the page and now they're attacking my own user page. His bio should be locked from editing by new or anonymous users but I don't know how to initiate that.--Bamadude 21:37, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

I removed the speedy tag from this article because it asserts that he was a member of a grammy award winning group, so not a speedy candidate; I don't think he's notable, just not a speedy delete: take to WP:AFD and it'll probably get deleted there. Just dropping a note to explain why I "undid" your tag. Keep up the good work. Carlossuarez46 18:32, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the courtesy note, but it wasn't actually my tag. I found it on the bottom and moved it to the top, above the existing "hang on." A look at history suggests the page was created with it. How peculiar! I wonder if it was a speedy deleted article that the author recreated in toto? Moonriddengirl 18:36, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
It may have been speedied before; it's a sufficiently common name (maybe) that any number of nn people may share it. Anyway, just one of the mysteries of the universe. :-) Carlossuarez46 18:38, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia is certainly full of mystery. :) Moonriddengirl 18:40, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Bamadude

You should probably tell your friend Bamadude that he shouldn't remove discussion from talk pages - lest you appear unfair. --66.32.110.184 20:16, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

You already did that, didn't you? I seem to remember seeing the word "idiot" in the summary. A review of Wikipedia: Civility might be in order. If you have a dispute with him regarding Dennis DeYoung, vandalizing Tommy Shaw is not the way to resolve it. Perhaps arbitration might be helpful if consensus can't be reached. Moonriddengirl 20:18, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

You might want to check out the "civility" in his posts - read the Styx talk page, for example - once again, in the spirit of fairness. This person is a long time abuser with a personal agenda. He switches identities on wikipedia and uses weasel words and the like to spin his agenda accordingly. When he gets caught he reappears as someone else. Always the same - accusing people of vandalism until they get so mad they actually start vandalizing things like HIS talk page. Just informing you of his history. --66.32.110.184 20:25, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

The problem with getting so mad that you vandalize things like people's talk pages is that when third parties notice, they're not going to know the history. I'm not typically active on the Styx pages; I encountered the mess on Tommy Shaw on routine vandal patrol. If somebody is pushing POV changes on a page, Bamadude or anybody else, I think it's best to go through the dispute resolution process. You might also want to appeal to Wikiquette alerts and solicit outside help. I would assemble evidence before doing either of these. I know how emotional (and maddening) working with other editors can be, but it can make the whole process go more smoothly if everyone keeps calm. If nothing else, it will help you present your case when you appeal for help. 20:34, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
I don't have a problem with this anonymous user (who I believe actually is a long-time user as they know the rules very well) voicing an opinion about any article on a talk page as that's what it's for, and opinions about articles are necessary to help keep it going on the right track, but it's not for abusing other users or discussing items not pertaining to the article. I also think they are confusing me with someone else (who I know, BTW) as I've used only this ID for myself and if I ever posted anything anonymously, it's only because of the rare few times my PC didn't log me in automatically. I welcome any constructive criticism (as you know personally from just a bit earlier when you suggested a change), but it would be beneficial if this user would log in and stand behind their words and promote positive changes to the articles they edit instead of being negative and resentful of an article that in the grand scheme of things means almost nothing to very few people. It's kind of funny (and actually sad) to watch this user squirm when someone reverts their hate-filled, abusive commentary that has nothing to do with anything except trying to make their own self-esteem rise.--Bamadude 00:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I hope the situation winds down, whatever happens. There's a good long block on Tommy Shaw, and if this user feels like he or she has a legitimate beef with you, maybe he'll express it without incivility. I haven't read the talk pages or tried to iron out any of the history of the dispute. I'm quite busy enough on my normal little vandalism patrol. :) Moonriddengirl 01:00, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Read the posts and decide for yourself if anything they posted is civil or legitimate. I can't imagine how anybody would think so.--Bamadude 01:07, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I haven't seen much civility to be sure. But I have a hard time keeping track of the various 66 identities--there are so many. Personally, I do my best to be civil to everyone. It doesn't necessarily keep people from being jerks to me (being on vandal patrol, I've run into my share), but it does help me remain detached. Wikipedia:No angry mastodons may only be an essay, but it works as a guideline for me. :) Moonriddengirl 01:13, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I went to the user page of this person and asked them to make their case explaining what their problem is with my posts and lend credence to their own posts. I'm trying to "make the peace" and maybe calm them down enough to explain themselves so this edit war can end now.--Bamadude 01:44, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
That sounds like a good approach. I hope it works out for you. If not, you might consider letting it rest for a day or so to see if it calms down with time. I've recently run across a really nasty wikifeud, and they don't help anybody. Presumably most of us are here for the same thing: constructing a decent encyclopedia. :) Moonriddengirl 01:47, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

gladiators

hi i have been putting up aguments for the gladiators page to be like the way you like it for a while and to day i have put the page like that today with less imformation what do i do have more or less imformation gladboy

Moonriddengirl, Gladboy and I have been having a disagreement over the level of unverified detail that was formerly in the article. I think we've come to a solution and from my point of view his edits were constructive and useful in moving towards a more streamlined and relevant page. I understand that his not using the edit summary was the main reason for your revert but I wanted to assure you that his edits were in good faith. Have a great day :-) Docta247 21:51, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm not entirely sure what you're asking me. :) Gladiators is not on my regular patrol. The edits that you're making may well be legitimate, but if you don't explain why you're cutting so much text out in the edit summary, which is the box that appears before you save the changes, people on vandal patrol see the big red numbers and presume you don't have a good reason. If you've discussed these changes on Talk:Gladiators and there is consensus that the text should be removed, go ahead and cut it. Just put something like "see discussion page" as your explanation, and the folk on vandal patrol probably won't be so alarmed. If I'm not clear, please let me know, and I'll try to explain myself better. Moonriddengirl 21:51, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

I completely understand your point of view. My thanks for looking out for all the articles that you patrol. Docta247 21:55, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Whale's vagina

I am shocked that you tagged for deletion such an obvious good faith, well-written and useful article, plus by doing so you may have caused irreparable harm to the editor's teen-angst-quotient;-) Seriously, thanks for being apparently the only editor willing to jump in at the deletion discussion (you know which one). I expected there to be contention but not such a lack of response. The issue is really brewing. We have almost 2,000,000 articles and we need to start removing unsourced stuff and especially unsourceable stuff but no one seems to want to actually do the dirty work and so many just don't internalize that this is an encyclopedia. I bet I can write a 'sourced article on every minor character in a famous piece of literature. But that never happens because adults don't obsess over ever aspect of such works the way teenagers apparently feel the need to memorialize every toothbrush mentioned in a static fictional universe. It's very frustrating when policy is squarely behind you, logic is squarely behind you, but you just can't get it done because leaving it alone maintains the status quo and requires no work, while attempting to remove requires thought and struggle. Oh well.--Fuhghettaboutit 22:32, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Bah, we added nothing but fluffy words. You did all the work, and you deserve all the credit. I really don't think the author of the page in question has much of a choice other than accepting the compromise as presented, but it's a great deal better than just rending her work asunder. As John Lydgate might have said were he a Wikipedian: "You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time - especially on Wikipedia." Broken warnings

Just wanted to let you know that both of the CfD warnings you left on my talk page have been incorrectly formatted (with that Category:category thing breaking the link). I presumed the first one was a one-off and so didn't say anything, but since it's happened twice figured I'd better let you know. I've never used that template, so I'm not sure where it's gone wrong. :) --Moonriddengirl 15:14, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks for letting me know about the error. That was caused by the script that I am using. I'll see that it is fixed before I nominate any more. I will say that I found these 2 categories through my watchlist. I now see that there are several more that you created that I have concerns about. Rather than nominate all of them now. I would like to see how the discussions begin on the first 2. After that, I'll think more about how to proceed. Please do take a look at WP:CATGRS#Other considerations where it says "Whenever possible, categories should not be gendered. A gender-specific category should only be implemented where gender has a specific relation to the topic." This is the main basis of my issue with these categories. Regards. --After Midnight 0001 15:21, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. There are several I created yesterday as part of the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Indian women discussion. Categories have been considered as a solution for that list. I've already let the editors at that discussion know that those categories are under consideration, although it had been my understanding based on my reading of policy that gender separation was allowed. (I'm sure you know that already, from my comments on the CfD. :)) Anyway, the outcome of these debates will obviously have bearing on the AfD under discussion, and I'll be sure to keep the other editors apprised in case they don't follow the CfD themselves. --Moonriddengirl 15:28, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
It looks like the 2 above discussion have both ended with decisions to listify. Do you have any thoughts about how you might like to proceed from here? I have a couple of ideas, but I would like to see how you feel before I take any action. --After Midnight 0001 01:50, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
That's a really good question, given that the decision on the List of Indian Women was to delete. How will they be listified? The Iranian women discussion is talking about making smaller lists on more focused topics. Perhaps that would work here? I believe that many of the categories under the Category:Indian women by occupation will probably stand up for gender has a specific relation to the topic. Given the focus of feminist studies, I would imagine that gender is a topic of special encyclopedic interest on subjects like diplomats, film directors, freedom fighters and such, since those fields (and many others) have traditionally not been filled by women. Given the process on writers and artists, I can easily imagine "television personalities" and "dancers" failing the test. I'm not sure about writers, since as a lit major I often took classes where gender division of authors was a major criterion. :) What do you have in mind?--Moonriddengirl 03:11, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Now that I'm up and awake again, I see that I may have misunderstood your question. These have already been listified, so you weren't asking how I thought we should proceed with that. :) Apparently then you mean in regards to the remaining categories and which are retainable and which not? If so, looking down the list, it seems to me that "television personalities," "dancers," "athletes" and "choreographers" are the same sort of situation as artists & actresses. (I think singers are, too, but I didn't make that category and see that for some reason singers get special treatment.) Possibly "film directors," "journalists" and "civil service" as well, though those seem more rarified professions for women. I think a case can be made that writers are different, but I'm not sure if it's a provable case and it may just be because of my professional bias. :) The rest seem to me to fit into the same general gender interest as heads of government. What do you think? --Moonriddengirl 12:05, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
I think that I am aligned with you regarding those 4 (television personalities, dancers, athletes and choreographers). I think that the others have some merit for being kept as they are harder for women to gain acceptance. I'm pretty sure that singers gets its own category based on size of that whole category tree. --After Midnight 0001 19:14, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
All right, then. Based on my reading of Wikipedia:Categories for discussion, it seems that, unlike with articles, category creators do not have the authority to request deletion speedily, and those categories do not seem to match the speedy deletion criteria. I suppose that makes sense, since it is much harder as far as I can tell to determine how many editors have added links to a category. Is the nomination for CfD the way to proceed with those four? --Moonriddengirl 19:21, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes, and I think that they should be 4 separate requests, in case someone wants to make a case for keeping one of them and to try to keep things from getting confused. If you would like, I can nominate them and you could comment on each to "support as creator", or vice-versa. --After Midnight 0001 19:35, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
I did one. Boy, those things are complicated. :) I can do the others with the same language, if you'd like, or I will happily yield the others to you and sign on my support. I'll wait to find out if something I did with the female television personalities is horribly wrong before doing anymore; please let me know if you'd prefer to go ahead with the rest. I will absolutely NOT be offended. ;) --Moonriddengirl 20:02, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
It looks fine to me, but I'll do the others for you, since I have a script that cuts way down on the work. --After Midnight 0001 20:27, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
All right. I'll keep an eye out for them and sign on. (I pulled the "colon" chain back here because they were getting hard to count.) --Moonriddengirl 20:29, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
I should have probably warned you that you would get the notices from me at the bottom of your page. Fell free to remove or refactor them as you please. --After Midnight 0001 20:54, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Styx record chart info

Quoting record chart info from unofficial chart sources isn't a solid citation. Citing Styx itself and some other unofficial page in which neither cite its sources is not solid research. Find a solid source for the fact, such as within the pages of the RIAA's web site or Billboard magazine, someplace that holds more credibility than an uncited, unsourced, off-the-cuff remark on an unofficial, non-record industry page or a band fan site. I'm not saying it's true or not; I just don't see a valid source for the claim.--Bamadude 03:40, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

I could really use your help!

It's come to my attention that the List of Indian women did not pass its AfD. I'm afraid that the List of Iranian women might meet the same fate before I have finished its categorization - I have many obligations off-Wiki at present, and I fear I won't have the time. Seeing as how you categorized a much bigger list much faster than I seem to be going, would it be an imposition if we asked for your help finishing the project? Let us know.

Sidatio 14:19, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

I'd be happy to help. However, since two categories I created for the Indian women list are being considered for deletion, I think I'd better stay away from artists & actors. They deletion discussion seems like it could go either way right now, and I'd feel uncomfortable creating categories for Iranian actors & artists given that consensus might be that the category is inappropriate. That said, I'm at your disposal. How can I best help? You want to give me a category or two or three? :) --Moonriddengirl 14:27, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
I had been making sure the articles were falling in the categories of: Iranian people, Iranian women, and, if prudent, Iranian women (occupation). I only had to create a few, and so far, I have not received any notice of those categories being considered for deletion. I have avoided creating a category for actresses (preferring instead to categorize them as actors, which I believe has been the precedent). I had also been doing some DEFAULTSORT tags that I now understand SmackBot does automatically.

I really appreciate the assistance!

Sidatio 14:36, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! I marked my place on the List of Iranian women talk page. I'll work down from the top when I can - probably won't be able to get to it until tonight at the earliest, may be able to do some on lunch break. DEFAULTSORT is a good friend to have, indeed! Sidatio 15:14, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Outstanding! You're much faster at this than we are. This will help a great deal. Thanks again! Sidatio 15:54, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

BTW

I noticed Crescent rising and moved it to Crescent Rising as I believe that is the proper name. Just giving you a heads up. The Behnam 17:26, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. While I didn't create that one, I'd have properly put it with a lowercase "r" as well. I am not yet fully familiar with naming conventions. Slowly figuring this massive project out. :) --Moonriddengirl 17:43, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Since it is a proper name of the organization, per WP:TITLE#Lowercase second and subsequent words in titles we should capitalize the 'r' in this case. Indeed, it is quite tricky - I once added inappropriate capitalization to Mongolia and then had to undo all of it. The Behnam 17:50, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Civility

In re your comments on my page, that's a matter of opinion and I respect yours; please respect mine in this case. Some people don't respond unless you get somewhat stern with them. I've tried being nice & polite with this person and it just doesn't work; he keeps reverting the article back to reflect uncited material and complains about my reverts (which I made per WP:Verifiability) with no facts to back him up. FYI, I did the research myself and posted a compromise solution that is very close to what you and he reposted earlier that is cited by the RIAA, so that should be the end of that --- how's that for civility ;-)--Bamadude 18:31, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Styx board

Hi there. Since you've been on the Styx board, we are having a bit of a problem with Bamadude and his revisions of the page. He takes it upon himself to delete long standing information that a lot of editors have taken the time to include on the board, all with a lot of contentiousness that didn't exist before he came on the board a few weeks ago. In anycase, I was planning on waiting this out a few weeks until he gets tired of this and "fixing" his edits. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for your time!--98percenthuman 02:05, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I have expressed my concerns to Bamadude about what I perceived to be incivility, specifically in the edit summary where he said "you should try this yourself instead of crying like a child about your uncited edits being reverted." He disagreed with my assessment. I've never been in the position you're in myself, but have looked into it a little bit after running into a situation like what you describe. Wikipedia:Resolving disputes recommends trying first to resolve differences on the talk page. If that doesn't work, it suggests waiting it out (as you'd planned). If I felt no resolution were possible, I would probably next consider taking the matter to Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts to get the input of other editors who are used to evaluating contentious editing and incivility. If there are several editors who have attempted to work out questions of user conduct with the individual, the User conduct board seems to be the place to go. If it's less the conduct and more the content, you might try getting assistance at Wikipedia:Requests for comment. In any case, it seems like you need to document the problem fairly extensively, and, of course, be sure that you're behaving well within Wikipedia standards yourself. Hope that's helpful. Wish I had a simpler answer. :/ --Moonriddengirl 02:33, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I will try this. --98percenthuman 02:49, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Your right to edit these articles is not in question, and I don't doubt that you have made many valuable contributions, including reversing vandalism. However, placing "warning" messages on the pages of good-faith contributors as you did to user:217.155.144.230 following his or her contributions to Kasautii Zindagii Kay is the kind of behavior specifically addressed in Wikipedia's Ownership policy, which discourages commenting on other editors' talk pages with the purpose of discouraging them from making additional contributions. Leaving a note on an article talk page requesting that other editors contact you before editing it is a similar situation. As a recent changes patroller, I am aware of how pervasive and frustrating vandalism can be, but one of Wikipedia's core policies is the assumption of good faith and the encouragement of free contribution.--Moonriddengirl 23:07, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Yretery of the Druids

While I am willing to accept your opposing view regarding the ongoing Yretery/Mystery debate, I must staunchly protest the seemingly misguided removal of the description of Yretery/Mystery as a "rappan" (rapping) game. While many have attempted to classify Yretery/Mystery, it is extremely difficult to categorize into a single genus. Therefore, rather than searching through a random grab-bag of assorted genres, and simply happening to pick out "adventure" (Please do not regard my remarks as personal criticism. While "adventure" is an extremely rough way to describe Yretery/Mystery, your error is highly unexplainable, and, I am sure, made in good faith), classification of Yretery/Mystery as a "rappan" (rapping) game is the only label which will do the title justice. With some thought on the matter, I am sure you will agree. Perhaps a compromise could be reached: a dual classification of the title as rappan/adventure. This way, newcomers to the game can gain a very approximate definition of the game's genus as "adventure" while the more hardcore Yretery/Mystery fans and loyalists will be pleased to see it properly and specifically labeled as a "rappan" game. Thank you for your time. 71.126.2.221 17:40, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Please feel free to edit The Mystery of the Druids with properly verifiable sources. The current sole source provided for the game very firmly establishes it as "adventure". --Moonriddengirl 17:51, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Camping World

I'm contesting the prod, as Camping World is clearly a notable company with more than 70 locations throughout the country, and arguably the largest retailer of RV supplies in America. However, I was wondering what specific reason you had for lack of notability, so I could fix the problem. (I'm guessing lack of sources; I'll get on that right now.) Realkyhick 02:36, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

I've done some major work on the article, including the addition of a logo, its new RV sales division, and its major involvement in auto racing. I had no idea how involved they were in racing, particularly NASCAR, until I started looking for sources. Anyway, I think this will take care of any notability issues, but if not, you can always take it to an AfD. I'd prefer you asked me first, though, as I may be able to fix any other problems. In regards to your question regarding the reversion of your edits to Newton County, Arkansas, information added to articles must be properly sourced and verifiable. Also, as an encyclopedia, Wikipedia has a standard of notability to maintain. Your addition to the article--i am bobby plokowski and i live in newtin county in arkansas and i am a editor of wikipedia--may be true, but it isn't information appropriate to an encyclopedia entry. --Moonriddengirl 18:41, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
it is enclopedic because it is true, its the free encyclopedia i can out wat i want. --BobbyPlokowski 18:42, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism and Libel

dear moonriddengirl

I tried to translate an article to Finnish about a Jewish person who once lived in Finland and who started Spacepol (see article) and the s... hit the fan. I wrote about him and his family in some articles and recieved criticism about sources (deserved), but then the discussion and deletion discussions turned to outright libel (alluding to credential fraud, or the he has written everything in my article and on the internet about himself and that he has paid to get into biographies, etc.) against the subject of my article, which was never my intention. My problem as that now they are attempting to catorize the English article as spam and I might be able to source it well in the future. Is there any way to get it protected? I am trying to reverse the damage, so I don't end up getting sued myself! Is there a way to get the Finnish libel checked from here or stopped?

Otherwise, the article on en:wikipedia is spacepol, but I have sources for the biography. I don't know if the person wants or doesn't want to be in Wikipedia, though. But since he is in many biography books anyone can read, I assume it is ok here too. thanx: hans —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.114.56.7 (talkcontribs) August 15, 2007

Hans, I am reading your note and will reply soon. --Moonriddengirl 19:54, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Like DLand, who addressed this on your talk page, I am not an admin. You seem to be in a tricky situation. I do not have an answer to your question about whether the English Wikipedia can help you on the situation occurring at the Finnish Wikipedia, although I don't believe it can. The best place to ask that is probably Wikipedia:Help desk, although since that is staffed by volunteers, you may find many of them unable to answer your question definitively as well. It may require some patience before somebody reads your question who can give you a definitive response. Reading the rest of your note, it seems that the major part of your question is how to protect your article so that problems with it can be corrected in the future. The only recourse that I know of that you have there is to explain your situation at the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spacepol. AfD is not a vote, but a discussion, and if you can set forth your position well enough, you may help the rest of the community arrive at the consensus that the article is not spam. If you can't, you may need to work on the article away from Wikipedia space until it meets Wikipedia's guidelines--specifically Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). Please be advised that Wikipedia AfD discussions are not historically generous to the idea that an article can be fixed up later. If you can fix the concerns raised now, that would probably be best. Good luck with your editing. --Moonriddengirl 20:28, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I removed the content from the critical applied linguistics page because it was useless.

For instance, in "Teaching English as a Missionary Language," Pennycook raises the issue of the deteriorating separation between church and state in the USA, and its effect on teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) where private language school employees may be more interested in gaining religious converts rather than teaching English. In this example, we see the dynamic between US State Department objectives (i.e., creating business opportunites for American businesses) using a religious organization's objectives (i.e., exposing people to Christianity) to foster the growth of corporatism (i.e., the corporate language school).

The language seems improper: "We see..." The language is convoluted: "...dynamic between US State Department objectives (i.e., creating business opportunites for American businesses) using a religious organization's objectives (i.e., exposing people to Christianity) to foster the growth of corporatism (i.e., the corporate language school)." I read this sentence more than once and couldn't tease out anything besides gibberish.

Only the first paragraph is necessary. As it stands, the article is about that dude's book, not about critical applied linguistics, which seems of dubious value to begin with.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.199.62.67 (talkcontribs) 15 August 2007

Hi. :) Since it was your intention to remove the content, please feel free to remove it again, but please do explain it in the edit summary so that other editors understand that the removal was purposeful and not accidental or vandalism. A few simple words like "unsourced; unrelated to subject" would probably be sufficient. The edit summary box is located just above the "save page" button. Not only do edit summaries help regular editors of a page to understand the evolution of an article, but they help editors on recent changes patrol to recognize that the change is constructive. We get quite a bit more accidental text blanking than you might imagine. :/ Thanks for contacting me about it. --Moonriddengirl 02:56, 16 August 2007 (UTC

RE: 3/2 and 2/2 testing this weekend

Copied here because, in all of the known Wikiverse, only 2 or 3 people tune into my talk page. Still, that's better ratings than UPN ever had...

The strategy is one of straight-up brute force: Take 100 people-related lists, 100 non-people-related lists, and test the 3/2 and 2/2 criteria. For example:

List of painters: 3/2: Possible outcomes - Painters by: (country) and (time period), (gender) and (country), (gender) and (style), (country) and (style), (time period) and (style)

Outcomes viable: All; each sublist suggestion would spawn maintainable, navigable lists. Possible Issues: Painters by (gender) and (country) and Painters by (gender) and (style) could possibly lead to further sublisting arguments. (Country) criteria could inspire nationalist arguments for some painters (slight risk, but mentionable).

2/2: Possible outcomes - Painters by: (country), (time period), (gender), (style)

Outcomes viable: All but gender. Possible issues: All outcomes could be susceptible to further sublisting based on size, with the possible exception of (style).

If we don't get any other help, though, we might be looking at just doing 50 of each, with 5 or so from random categories according to the List of lists. I'd like to get this done, but I'm not about to make it the focal point of my weekend. Sidatio 13:46, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Erin Mills

Hello Moonriddengirl (great name by the way),

I'm trying to figure out how to include a biography about myself, as my client (DuPont) has requested I list myself in Wikipedia for an internal project they are running inside of DuPont. I have tried to understand the guidelines, but have perhaps too hastily published the entry. I am trying to understand the guidelines further to provide further appropriate information for a living person, while also, not desiring to provide too much information to the public. I apologize if I haven't met the criteria and I will try to adjust the content appropriately.

Thank you, Erin (Erin Mills 23:30, 21 August 2007 (UTC))

About Sidatio

In relation to Sidatio, does Wikipedia have any policy on death threats? Yes, I know all about the blocking and everything, but do you know if there is anything that the Wikimedia Foundation actually does because of this happening through their lines? Because this problem is certainly the worst possible with Sidatio, considering the person getting their names and all. I want to help them as much as I possibly can and prevent this from happening to any future Wikipedians.SilverserenC 14:31, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure how the person got their names. Have you seen this yet? I suppose a person working with Sam Harris would have a lot of power. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if the person actually is Sam Harris. Sidatio seems to be handling the problem with their local police and all, but this kind of thing still makes me angry. It also happened to H as well. I believe that the Wikimedia Foundation should take a firmer stance against this kind of thing happening because it is happening directly through their lines of communication and, thus, you could consider them partially responsible for anything that happens on their sites. You're right about stuff that happens off of the Wiki, but enough stuff happens on Wiki that there are major problems. It absolutely disgusts me... A hands-offish stance never helped anyone. SilverserenC 19:20, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
I still can't believe that Sidatio never said anything at all about this to either of us. I mean, their going away message was directed right to the two of us, but they never mentioned anything about this. I probably wouldn't have found out anything about it at all and thought everything was perfectly normal if that person didn't post on the talk page. I can understand that they might have been trying to "protect" us from the person or something, but it still makes me kind of sad that nothing was said whatsoever.SilverserenC 19:45, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Akai's page article almost all gone by user GlassFET

User:GlassFET feels that the Akai article is not well referenced and therefore, almost everything must go. It all started when he deleted a reference to a manual that gives reference to an Akai machine listed there and he converted it into a "footnote". As a contributor, I didn't object. I asked him why though, he said, because the manual is copyrighted, so I didn't object to that answer but felt a "footnote" was probably not needed. Then he erased the word "broke ground" and re-arranged the paragraph (See: [1] and his edits [2]) from the unit's paragraph because there was no reference that can verify that it did "break ground" as a porta studio of its time (1985). So, I found one ref, he dismissed as "not notable" because the link was to a studio page. Then, he told me that I wrote the paragraph on that unit wrong. Which is untrue. I wrote it factual and with the right machine specs. He decided at that point that rather than look for better sources for references, the article should be drastically trim down for lack of references. I think this user wants to meet Wikipedia standards, but also wants to incite me into to losing my civility and to disrupt the normal development of the Akai article. Can you help by making any comments? Thanks. 19:49, 22 August 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jrod2 (talkcontribs) 22 August 2007

--I'll go have a look. --Moonriddengirl 19:51, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

The references can be found on the Akai main link though...everything that you put was factually according to the official Akai page. His edits seem kinda out of line. Thats my opinion anyways.SilverserenC 19:52, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey seren and Moonriddengirl , thanks. I am happy to report that I was very impressed as to how quickly the issue was dealt with. That said, if I was on the wrong, I am sure you guys would have straightened me out. I have no doubts of that and it's what I would have expected. Thanks for the quick response. Jrod2 20:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Since Ratiocinate stepped in on the edit, I'll just say that I think you were smart to back off and take a breath. That's always a good first step when you think civility may be slipping. If the editor repeats the actions without taking it to discussion at the article space, it may be beneficial to launch discussion about it there yourself--not at his talk page--noting that the information is verifiable per company website. There are instances where self-published sources are acceptable, as per WP:SELFPUB. If the article says "Akai makes better product than anyone" and the only source is the company website, that's not WP:Verifiable. Product stats from the website probably are. Anyway, it's good to do it at the Akai discussion page so that it opens the dialogue to other editors of the page, now and in the future. If that doesn't work, I'd probably take it to Wikipedia:Third opinion so that there could be no argument of bias. --Moonriddengirl 20:17, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
You are absolutely right. Now, I have to go get some work in the real world, so my "online" status should become "offline" :) I would love it if you take one more look, at your earliest convenience, at the last comments of the template proposal in which Ratiocinate has also (I think) become more enthusiastic of its possible applications. Mainly to guide anon IP address new visitors when doing their first edits, while CVU and other members are fighting on that same page, reverts and what not. I will come back later, if these points are not making much sense, please point them out to me, or just ask me in context of a "real life" situation. BTW, I did change the image as per Ariel's advise. What do you think? Thanks and see you later. Jrod2 20:48, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Because of copyright laws, it is not Wikipedia's policy to delete accounts, however you may ask to have your userpage deleted by placing {{db-userreq}} at the top of it. User:talk pages are not usually removed. If the username you have chosen is too closely associated to your public identity, you may wish to request a user name change. This is frequently a recourse when a user feels the need to exercise the Right to vanish. If you have been the target of true incivility, you may be able to have incivil comments about you permanently removed. Several of these actions require the assistance of a bureaucrat, who has the technical ability to make changes that other Wikipedia editors cannot. --Moonriddengirl 22:34, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Billie Holiday Page

I respectfully have to re-iterate that the passage regarding the song Billie sang to land the job at Pod's and Jerry's. It was not "Body and Soul" as posted on Wikipedia but "Trav'lin All Alone", as stated by Holiday herself in her autobiography "Lady Sings The Blues". Citation:

"I needed forty-five bucks by morning to keep Mom from being thrown out on the street. I asked the piano player to play "Trav'lin All Alone. It came closer to anything to the way I felt. And some part of it must have come across. Then a funny thing happened. The whole joint quieted down and before I knew it the whole joint was crying in their beer and I picked up thirty-eight bucks off the floor." (direct quote from her book "Lady Sings The Blues")

Having read extensively about Holiday and her career from various authors and am intimately acquainted with her body of recorded work, I can venture to offer this small correction. Case in point, if I'm incorrect then several noted authors are as well, as their own published statements lend credence to my own suggested correction. I thank you for allowing me to comment.

Blanking talk pages

Hi, wasn't sure whether to leave this note here or on mine so feel free to move it. Thanks for clearing that up, has always been a murky area in my mind (I remember trying to blank my talk pages ages ago only to have it reverted). I used the term 'bad practice' than actually claiming it to be in breach of any policy simply because I wasn't sure. I wouldn't argue the case but thought the user may be interested in archiving instead. Regards RaseaC 21:44, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Comment by Wiseoldowl

Hi! Thanks for the discussion. I meant nothing negative by my "blanking" actions. I generally read through histories to see past information and discussions, since histories can't be erased or modified. What concerns me most about individuals using Wikipedia, is their biased attitudes towards many items and issues. I blanked the discussion about Virgin Atlantic Airways, because two individuals jumped right in and strongly critized me for reporting verifiable, indisputable facts about the actions of Continental Airlines, Virgin Atlantic Airlines and the Skyteam Alliance. In actual fact, while Virgin Atlantic Airlines is not "officially" listed as a Skyteam member, it functions as one - it is a de facto member. The airline industry uses many tactics in conducting its business, just like many other industries. I will leave and end this discussion with a question - if there is a large corporation, in a very competitive business, wouldn't it be a pragmatic policy to have Wikipedia scanned and "cleaned" for any information that might reflect negatively on its business and its business practices? And would those actions also include discrediting individulas who post certain types of comments? Wiseoldowl 15:15, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Why don't you check out the user pages for RaseaC, Richi, and NcSchu. Also check the Virgin Atlantic Airways Subject Page and look at the history of changes. Then ask yourself why would RaseaC be the only individual who came to my User Page and reversed my decision to clean up my Discussion page. They are all connected with Virgin Atlantic. Guess what, I did become a researcher. Wiseoldowl 21:27, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to butt in here but I feel like adding my two cents. I can only speak for myself when I say I'm not affiliated with VA, but assume the story is the same with NcSchu and Richi. The fact of the matter is that the changes you made to the VAA page were incorrect and borderline vandalism. If you wish to discuss the matter further please feel free to do so on my talk page as I'm sure Moonriddengirl has no interest in it! With regards to the talk page, I like many other editors disagree with blanking and prefer archiving, but that's your choice. Regards, RaseaC 22:23, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Ahem. For the record, I have no connection whatsoever with VAA (aside from flying them to SFO several times a year). As I recall, Wiseoldowl's edits about the VAA/Continental "alliance" were inappropriate for the article, in the opinion of several editors ... richi 23:11, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
I do not work for Virgin Atlantic, nor with any company associated with the Virgin brand. In fact, I'm a student - I don't even have a job. There were several problems with the content you added, namely that Virgin Atlantic is not and never has been part of an alliance. I do not appreciate being accused of skewing information in favor of a company. I have no reason to do so. My dedication to a page or to several pages merely indicates where I prefer focusing my duty as an editor, not that I have some kind of hidden motive. NcSchu(Talk) 23:50, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Ted Nugent

Thanks for taking the time to address the Ted Nugent military thing. For many, Nugent is more than muscial artist--he is a political totem. As with many politically-oriented articles here, there has been some over-the-top 'slashing-and-burning' of the article as well as deprecation of the subject's reputation without much attempt at achieving consensus or neutrality. I appreciate your willingness to engage to seek out that consensus, as I suspect that our own political viewpoints may be significantly different. Cheers! Ossified 14:24, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

We do not replace them with external links" [3] whereas i have seen many pages where there are pleanty of external links pointing to the group which is referenced.

I also tried to search through policies, but could not find one which confirms the above statement, just for my initial wikipedia understanding, was my edit wrong ?

dear MoonGirl

This is a thanks from me. me Petetyj 03:14, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

you explain the removal of my change to the reversi article. I see now that you removed the change to my change.

I can see some of the other objections to my changes ( he should learn the basics before he makes changes) as sour grapes. since I see 99% of my opponents die a painful death when I apply some of the techniques I tried to post. but i guess you shouldnt try to instruct a beginner to learn at least 50 popular openings before he goes to a public room and tries to play the people there. Im much respected at most sudoku and othello sites.

im not nearly as literate as most of the textbook writers. I somtimes cant put the concept in the proper words. but im sure i know the subject matter far better than the editors, im also sure i could draw a better schematic with a crayon on a coctail napkin than one the artist made printable in a textbook i wrote the publisher about. The wiki is far more reliable than any textbook or encyclopeida thats printed and published. weekly magazines are perhaps 3 weeks out of date.. textbooks are more like 3 years out of date. i trust a 100yer old math or science text more than a modern one. i think they perhaps try to put in color pictures to replace those old black and white lithographs and between the editor the typist the pasteupartist and the photographer the illustrations may have nothing to do with the text and may be upsidedown or reversed.

a well known manfacturer of aircraft engines i worked for went from blueprints and inked velum drawings to cad made an order for turbine blades with that shiny new perfect readable beautiful printed drawing ended up paying $40million for blades that sucked instead of blowing if they faxed a copy of a copy of the old blueprint complete with jelly donut and coffee stains it wouldnt have happened.

there should be a way that people cant post without signing in. the sign in should not be allowed without some identy check. the 4 tilde thing should be totally irrevelent to the posting / identity process. it should be totally automatic. ive kept the yahoo email for the last 12 years ive had 6 isps in those years yahoo is stable enough to Keep the adress forever isps and telephone companies are not. I can also do email from a hotel or a library on their machine or mine. (this makes that copy the obscured text in the box necessary or sign in again after xx hours. most people know about that keep me signed on on this computer box )

now being a source or resource for a subject of an article may not have a lot of time to answer arguments or explain why the change need to be made or get the piles of emails

I dont understand the concept of vandalism or why someone would pay $3 for a can of spray paint to write poo poo on a wall but it exists

Im a newbie here but ive gotton some textbooks corrected I have articles published it IEEE journals and some magazines.

Also im fairly sure this is the wrong place for this note but you have some status here and helped me at least once

but i will know to use the fourtilde from now on.

Deborahe Glasgow edit

Thank you for your comments on my entry for Deborahe Glasgow. It was my first attempt at Wikipedia and I have tried to learn from your comments.

I have thus edited the entry to take into account the nuetral tone preferred by Wikipedia.

May I ask if you were familiar with Ms Glasgow's work? She is described as a Jamaican in the all music guide but really she was a Londoner of Jamaican heritage. I saw her several times in the 80s and she possessed a beautiful voice not dissimilar to Deneice Williams.

Thanks

Thank-you

Dear Moonriddengirl, thank-you for your comments. Please note the reason that I attempted third party intervention, was because I have told the other editors, several times, that it violated wiki standards, and included sources on both the article, their, and my own talk pages. However Hasek is the best, continued to ignore it, or dialogue on the subject, which was why I included a comment on the main page, to insure that he saw it.

I am not sure a neutral comment will help in this situation, as the other editor doesn't even want to talk about it, but I will see what I can do. Thank-you again for you advice. 216.201.33.27 04:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Ted Nugent

Do you think that it's OK to insert the revision on the subject page yet? There hasn't been a resolution yet on WP:BLN, but perhaps it's up to us to notify them that resolution has been achieved? Then again, should we seek a response from THF, Crockspot, and Evets70, or just assume their assent? While I may have discovered 'the men behind the curtain' fairly quickly, I'm still not particularly sure which levers to pull (or when). Speedy Deletion...

Hi there,

I was just replying to your speedy deletion mark on the article I am posting. I have viewed the criterion and I noticed that some of the people/artists who have wikipedia pages have no mention of their importance or significance. If they can keep their pages, I was just wondering how they were able to do it and how I might be able to format my article so that it will not be deleted. I stated in the opening paragraph that they were influential to other bands in the Baltimore music scene. What else would I need? Thanks for your time!

Question on Threat deletion proposal

Hi Moodnriddengirl- If I want to respond to your Keep comment on the Threat AfD page, should I do so here, there, or on that page's talk page? -Eric (talk) 20:00, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Got your reply--thanks! -Eric (talk) 04:23, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi MRG- I responded to your post on Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_deletion/Threat the other day. What do you think? -Eric (talk) 18:54, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh, boy, feeling like an amateur: about to rename Threat and it occurs to me to look what links to it, and now my spirit might be broken. Sadly, a bunch of people have wikilinked to the article simply as a word definition. If I renamed the article as we discussed, do you know if there's a way/if it's okay to have the redirect page for the simple dicdef part point to Wiktionary or to another external site? As a gesture of supreme patience and tolerance with people who wikilink basic vocabulary words, I would ideally make a redirect to the AHD entry. But I don't know if that's wiki-cool. Sorry this is such a bore and I will stop bugging you soon! -Eric (talk) 13:34, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
No problem. :) Would you like some assistance with this? I'd be happy to go to the pages that link "threat" as a definition and redirect to coercion. Remember that when you rename a page, the old title becomes a redirect, so the links won't be broken. --Moonriddengirl 13:37, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but the links meant for a simple definition of "threat" will then be pointing to a stub on int'l law. If I wanted to fully expose my mania--and not get anything done on my house today--I'd be tempted to go to all those articles and remove the simple vocab links (the ones not referring to the int'l law component). Would that be too crazy? -Eric (talk) 15:01, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
That's why I said redirect to coercion. :) But, here, let me show you what I mean. --Moonriddengirl 15:05, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
There. The non-dicdef sits at Threat of force (public international law). The subsequent redirect page Threat has been retooled into a disambiguation page. That's what I meant at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Threat. :) Now I'll go and redirect the pages that send to threat directly to coercion, since its not good practice to link to disambig pages. Will you add the text you found to the new page? It could be helpful to future editors in expanding. --Moonriddengirl 15:21, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks--I didn't mean for you to do all that work! Which text do you mean--what I found on the internet? There are many hits for the search combo "threat of force" + "public international law". I added a link to to a World Court Digest page. -Eric (talk) 16:40, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Not a problem. I was planning on working on Wikipedia anyway. :) This kind of stuff is tedious, but also good for the project. As to the addition, I suppose that's what I meant. Without going back to reread, I seem to recall your mentioning during the AfD that you had encountered something that led you to believe this title would be better. That's what I was asking about. :) --Moonriddengirl 16:56, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I added another link to a site that talks about threat of force in public int'l law. Thanks again! -Eric (talk) 17:52, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

FERNANDO NAVARRO

Hi moongirl, this is VASCO AMARAL from PORTUGAL,

Noticed that you left a message on this footballer's talk page, saying i should have done the playing stats a certain way. I disagree. For instance i wrote "FC BARCELONA 2001-06" and his BARCELONA numbers and you suggested that after his stay in ALBACETE (and his numbers), i should insert BARCELONA and stats again. NO, SORRY, not the way it is done, i have seen tons of other players whose infoboxes were written in the fashion i did. I think it is a more than accurate. Also, someone wrote (and this i am sure is posterior to my inputs here) that this article is in need of a football expert attention. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? THAT I HAVE BEEN WRITING LIES? Hey! Good luck on your Rfa:) You are a great candidate for adminship. You are civil, knowledgeable when it comes to policy, and you have not done anything that indicates abuse of power. If you became active a few months earlier you would of been a perfect candidate, but that is not a big deal:) Again, good luck on your Rfa!--SJP 02:18, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

FERNANDO NAVARRO - Part 2

Hi there moongirl, VASCO here, hope all's fine by you;

My disbelief and awe were about this simple topic: The article had absolutely nothing, no infobox, almost no info, i inserted both, and it read "this article cites no references or sources", which was totally accurate. After the article was "fuller" (AND ONCE AGAIN I GUARANTEE I DID RESEARCH, LIKE VISITING PLAYER INFO ON TEAM'S WEB), the "no references or sources" stood (again correct, since it still has none), accompanied by "in need of football expert attention". I am too (since you said you were) very confused as to why this tag appeared AFTER my inputs, since i gave it attention, and the only thing missing are the external links...Please clear me on the subject, i want misunderstandings avoided at all costs!

Thanks again, hope too wiki-hear from you FROM PORTUGAL, VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 16:03, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

I just wanted to say thank you so much to those of you who put careful thought and consideration into responding to my RfA. I appreciate your taking the time. I particularly want to thank those of you who came forward in support of the request. It's an uncomfortable feeling, being scrutinized so closely, and your kind words were much appreciated. Those of you who voiced concerns, particularly with regards to my time in saddle, please rest assured that I will not rush headlong into things I don't understand. 9/16 Vandalism

Hi MRG, was researching the vandalism of my user page and noticed that the same perp hit your page as well. This user only made 4 edits - the vandalism to our user pages, to Edward DeVries, reverting the article to its state prior to your major edit, and to Stemonitis, who only added a DEFAULTSORT to said article! This pattern of edits makes me think we're dealing with someone close to Edward DeVries, if not the man himself. Sorry about getting you dragged into this! Appreciate your intervention, though. How can we stop this pattern of unwarranted reverts to this article and retaliatory vandalism? Steve CarlsonTalk 02:25, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Carma Developers Wiki

Moonriddengirl,

I noticed that you were the one that had deleted the page I created for Carma Developers. I totally understand why, and am working with my marketing department now to develop copy to put up as the new Carma Developers page on Wiki. I realize that my first attempt at contributing resulted in the page being total advertising for our company, and that was certainly not my intention. We will be working to develop a site that accurately accounts our company's history, as well as touching on the real estate industry in North America. I feel that we do provide a great service; however, I realize that our page should be unbiased, and factual. That is what it will be.

Thanks, Robert

MiszaBot

Since you said "wish me luck", (hee hee) I looked it over, and it looks right. MiszaBot runs every day starting right about now, so you should get archived around 9:30am EST every day. So check back here in about an hour, and it should be working. The bot doesn't update the archive box though, you'll have to do that automatically, adding the new pages. If you want a {{atn}} header at the top of each archive page, you can add this: |archiveheader = {{atn}} to the code. (See what it looks like at an empty page here. Equal signs in template parameters can cause problems. The two = in the URL can be replaced with {{equals}}. {{=}} wouldn't work here. Another possibility here: Start the whole parameter (not just the URL) with 1=. This template is substituted so a third possibility is to omit = and just make a new edit with normal = after substitution. PrimeHunter 21:30, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the Editor Review

Thank you for taking the time for a helpful review! I'll be more diligent with vandalism corrections in the future... they are annoying to fix but certainly worthwhile. I do have a question about adopting pages... the WikiPoker page encourages members to adopt pages, but I don't see that as very widespread in other projects (nor do I see many pages adopted). Obviously it is wrong to consider a page *yours* in any way, but in general is it encouraged or discouraged to adopt pages? Macboots 00:12, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Help with a Sockpuppet

I need some guidance on how to proceed with an apparent sockpuppet. I initially reported the issue several days ago to admin Can't sleep, clown will eat me on his talk page, but haven't heard back from him. The apparent puppeteer is TCrEoLe89 (banned by Can't sleep, clown will eat me) and the puppet TCR89. They both exhibit the same pattern of uploading copyright violation images, some of them the same images (Brittany Daniel). Also the names are obviously pretty similar... After reporting the sockpuppet, I went ahead read the Wikipedia:Sock puppetry. Based on the template instructions at the bottom, I thought I was supposed to go ahead and post a suspected sockpuppet template on the the TCR89 user page. TCrEoLe89 already had a template on his page, so I added TCR89 to the list of suspected puppets... Not hearing back from the admin, I starting researching more and looked at the Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets. After reading that page, now I'm thinking that I got ahead of myself by posting the templates, and I'm really confused on how to proceed with the issue. It really seems pretty open and shut, but Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets doesn't want cases older than a week... Furthermore the Wikipedia:Sock puppetry page is really confusing me... are all the instructions specifically for admins? If so, why isn't that noted on the page (or am I missing something)? Any help guidance you can provide would be most appreciated! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Macboots (talkcontribs) 18:57, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

You are amazingly responsive! Thanks for the help... I'm also confused with what to do about all the .jpg's the user uploaded... Should I just delete all the associated links to them, or is it appropriate to just go ahead and delete the source images? And if so, how do I do that? (I won't forget to sign this time...) Hi, Chintan Upadhyay is one of the famous contemporary artist. I have responded at your talk page, but since you are apparently a logged out registered user, I'll respond here as well to ensure that you see it. :) As was explained at User talk:Rizviz, the current article Chintan Upadhyay was deleted because it was a violation of copyright, reproducing text verbatim from this web page. Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material without the permission of the author. Although I was not involved with the article's previous deletion, on September 19th, the only thing in it then was == [http://cu.ashishbalramnagpal.com/] ==, which lacks sufficient context for an article. So far, the articles created for this artist have not conformed to policy. You might find it helpful to review WP:BIO to see what the requirements are for a biography. Remember to put text in your own words and to provide reliable, secondary sources. :) --Moonriddengirl 15:30, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I think it's working! It's a miracle! You are a miracle worker! :D --Moonriddengirl 19:44, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
I've tweaked it a little bit, because the text is individual based on the template, in this case, the word "on" worked for the other template, but not for this one, so I just added a comma, otherwise it would result in the sentence kind of not making sense. Instead, I just added a comma to be placed after the article name, if that parameter is used. I've tested it, and also added the reason you were getting the extra ArielGold 19:54, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
P.S. If I'm overstepping, with changes, feel free to tell me to quit, lol. ArielGold 19:57, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. It's absolutely okay. :) I wanted to ask if you'd mind helping me with the one I just put in the sandbox as well, because it's got two variables. Obviously, I know how to do the {{subst:templatename|variable1|variable2}}, but I don't know how to make that happen within the template. Would you mind? --Moonriddengirl 19:59, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay let me go take a look. I hope you don't mind, but I made some of your templates on your ref sheet clicky-wiky-linky, lol. I really find that helpful even if they are ones I use a lot, but if you hate them feel free to revert me! ArielGold 20:03, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
That sounds like a good idea--easier to make sure they say what I think, and also to make sure they haven't changed into something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. :) --Moonriddengirl 20:05, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Alright, I've done the sandbox one. I think that it is going to work as intended, but it is a bit quirky, in that you must specify the name of the article referenced, if you're going to include the URL. If you don't, it will end up sounding very odd indeed, lol. I tested it with different URL endings, including .asp, .php, .html and .htm, but if you find a URL doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to figure out why. The one I use doesn't allow anything but html/htm, so yours is better, I may use the code from yours to fix mine lol. ArielGold 20:20, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you! Considering how often this has been coming up, I suspect that one is going to be very useful. I'll be sure to include article names and URLS. :)--Moonriddengirl 20:22, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I seem to find a number of copyvios quite often, so I use that template a lot. I need to fix mine, lol. Holler if you want any other stuff done, and I added a couple helpful admin templates to your page, hope that's okay! ArielGold 20:27, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
More than okay--much appreciated. Thanks for everything. :D --Moonriddengirl 20:31, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay, that copyright one might end up having issues with some URLs, mostly the type that are the result of a database search, with long numbers, and no extension at the end. If you find a URL that doesn't end up showing up when you use the template, post the URL on my talk page, and that will help me figure out what the problem is. I tested it with a couple, and some are showing up, while the one I used as a "search result" didn't. I'll have to look into that... hrmm. lol The majority of URLs should work, though. ArielGold 20:35, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

(reset indent)Thanks. I'll come running if I run into trouble, because I surely won't be able to figure it out myself. :D --Moonriddengirl 20:36, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

FYI: the "tls" templates work fine if you copy/paste from your template page, that's how I do mine. It results in {{subst:Creation}} by copying/pasting the {{subst:Creation}} entry. (In other words, you don't actually go into the page and edit to copy it, you just copy it from the page directly, highlight/ctrlc/then ctrlv) ArielGold 01:06, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
That was what I was trying to do. I don't know what I'm doing wrong! Maybe it doesn't expand in the preview? I am perplexed. I will go play in my sandbox and see. --Moonriddengirl 01:09, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Maybe I'm not explaining, or understanding. And, that template actually requires variants/switches, so it isn't a good example. So let's use {{subst:Done}} Highlight it, copy, and you get:  Y Done the "tls" can be used on any template that doesn't require any additional parameters, but for the others, yeah you'd need to use the nowiki tags. ArielGold 01:14, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
No, it's not you. I think it's gremlins of some kind. I'm playing with it at my User:Moonriddengirl/sandbox. {{tls|done}} worked. {{tls|Creation}} gives me a colon. I swear I'm not crazy. :) --Moonriddengirl 01:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I see! So it's the missing parameter that's confusing it. :) --Moonriddengirl 01:18, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, let me go through and list the ones you can use tls with:

Those are the ones, if you want to, you can change to the tls use to have the clicky-wiky-linkies. You still have to add your four tildes at the end to sign them, of course. But yeah, anything that you'd add a parameter to (article, username, etc), that doesn't work with unless you add that parameter. Like you can still have {{subst:Creation}} , but you'd have to copy it, and then know to type whatever parameter it requires, in this case, |user ({{subst:Creation|user}}). (tested it and that works) ArielGold 01:25, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. You're a very patient teacher. :D --Moonriddengirl 01:33, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Page deletion

wow, every-time I've tried to make a page on here about an underground music group it gets deleted. I try to make these pages because I go to look them up on here and see nothing about them so I decide to make one.

I thought that was the whole point of this site but I was dead wrong. I understand that this site has to cite refrences, but it's kind of hard when its a small unknown band. I put their biography from their own web-site and that isn't good enough.

So I get it, I won't make another page on here because it's a waste of time....I will now go get cancer and fuck myself.

thanks for nothing Adambomb419 05:23, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to the team!

Hi Moon! I have absolutely no problem with that block. My rule is that a repeat or second attack page after a warning gets the user an indefinite block. We just shouldn't have any tolerance for that sort of thing. Thanks for the note, NawlinWiki 14:44, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

earthendesign band deletion

Hi Moonriddengirl,

You deleted my article that I'd started about the band "earthendesign", who was active and released albums in the first half of 1990. You deleted them under the criteria that the band was not notable.

I read through that area, but the specific criteria on whether or not the band was notable was a gray area. The band released 2 albums, for a total of 14 songs, and played concerts in Connecticut and New York. They were interviewed and reviewed in hardcore (music) magazines and college newspapers, and played shows with more established bands such as Hatebreed and Sam Black Church.

My plan was to post the history of the band on wikipedia, but if the band is not notable enough, I understand.

Note - I just read through the criteria, and I agree, earthendesign does not meet them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Juicerocket (talkcontribs) 18:20, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Process

MRG, I've noticed that you've been removing speedy tags from articles which are, bluntly put, garbage. I know process is important, but it's also important to use your judgment. Just because something isn't nonsense of the "egt76 dgukf45e7 FLURGH GLURF GIRAFFE-FLAVORED NIPPLECLAMP" type, that doesn't mean it should go to AfD. Articles which are blatantly and obviously garbage can be deleted out of hand. You don't have to use the code-numbers in the Speedy criteria - I suggest you read my deletion log to see some example rationales. DS 03:42, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi. :) Thanks for your note. I'm sure I have a lot to learn about the process, and I welcome input.
I use the summaries with code numbers because in working at Help Desk I've seen many users come to ask about why their articles were deleted. I like to make that process as transparent as possible. :) It's no particular onus to type them out, since they're all in my browser memory anyway.
I do delete articles which I feel are blatant and obvious vandalism. (A quick glance at my deletion log shows two together--Wtfombbq and Lncoln yesterday, for instance.) Probably my definition of that is relatively conservative. Looking over your deletion log, the only articles I see in the top 500 that I remember removing the CSD from were "skunting"—which probably was garbage, but was already in AfD and which does have enough google hits that I felt it deserved the "wider forum" prescribed by WP:CSD (under Hoaxes)—and"Rummy (spoken game)", about which I felt similarly, given my interpretation of policy. The only other two speedies that I seem to have recently removed that were subsequently speedied anyway, looking at my deleted edits, are Brigada 921, an article in a foreign language tagged as no context which was speedied for content after I requested translation, and OptiVISOR. I disagreed with speedy spam assessment and put it up for PROD as non-notable and undersourced. Another admin apparently thought the spam label appropriate.
Anyway, if you see that I have removed the speedy tag from an article and believe I'm in error, please do let me know. I'm not interested in pushing articles through procedure for procedure's sake, though I am very concerned with conforming to policies. If I'm misinterpreting something, I'd be very grateful to have that pointed out. :) --Moonriddengirl 13:21, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

The Final Warning Summary Deletion

Hello,

I saw that the synopsis of the novel The Final Warning was removed due to a copyright violation. So my question is that is it okay to use the summary from Amazon.co.uk if reference that web page or do I entirely have to create a new summary?

Rudeboy2025 02:34, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello, (stepping in here Moon, hope you don't mind!) Please read Wikipedia's Copyright policy. Additionally, reviews from Amazon.com are not reliable, third-party sources, so you will need to formulate a summary using your own words and thoughts. Hope that helps. Please see the following for assistance: Cite your sources, Manual of style, Layout guide, First article, Article development and How to edit ArielGold 02:42, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Ah ok but what if the novel is not going to be released until next year so I would have no clue what the book would be about. Do I just read the already provided summary and rewrite that summary? I mean it wouldn't make much difference although it would get rid of the copyright problem. Not arguing just pointing that out.

Rudeboy2025 14:38, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

It makes a huge difference in terms of the law. :) Wikipedia:Copyright says, "Note that copyright law governs the creative expression of ideas, not the ideas or information themselves. Therefore, it is legal to read an encyclopedia article or other work, reformulate the concepts in your own words, and submit it to Wikipedia. However, it would still be unethical (but not illegal) to do so without citing the original as a reference." I know that, as ArielGold says, Amazon is not usable for reviews; I don't know how the summary thing goes with Amazon. You might want to check at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels to see if Amazon summaries are usable in that way, unless Ariel comes back and knows. :) If you do reformulate their summary, do remember to attribute. --Moonriddengirl 14:43, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok thanks. Will look around on the WikiProject Novels to check about the summary from Amazon thing. Thanks :)

Got a minute?

Would you be willing to deal with a copyright issue? It has already been explained to the editor in question, as have the obvious WP:COI issues, but the editor seems unwilling to respect Wikipedia policy and guidelines, and has repeated the violation on their userpage: User:Eriko E. Gale has placed verbatim liner notes from her father's CD, with no evidence of permission: States at the bottom of the page: "(As appeared on the inside sleeve (a.k.a C.D. liner) of Eric Gale's album "Ginseng Woman & Multiplication", courtesy of Columbia Jazz Contemporary Masters, re-released in 1991 (released originally in 1977 by Sony Music)" I think perhaps a word from an administrator may assist this user in understanding that the editors she's been in contact with are indeed, citing proper policy and guideline, and especially with regards to copyright, these things are taken quite seriously. ArielGold 01:39, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

For you, anything. :D I'll go weigh in. :) --Moonriddengirl 01:40, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
LOL Well not anything, but certainly valid issues, which this is. The user posted this to the userspace after Timotab had fully explained all the issues, so there is evidence the user did see the comments and feedback. The userpage should have the copyright issues removed, and hopefully a nice note from sweet Moon, will help her understand Wikipedia is not "out to get her" but simply here to uphold the neutrality and integrity of the project. Thanks for looking at it! ArielGold 01:43, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Help with a Serial Tag Deleter

You've been so helpful giving me pointers... so I'm back for more guidance! I'm trying to get more involved in the community, and have have listed a few copyvio's for deletion. One I listed was Image:Lanalang.jpg. Limetolime was the uploader, who then went and removed the deletion tag from the page as well as removing my comments from the image deletion discussion. Going to his talk page, I noticed he has been under quite a bit of scrutiny for copyvio's. Only thing is, he seems to consistently go and improperly delete the deletion tags off the pages... (examples, Image:S1dvd.jpg, Image:Gemanscreenshot.jpg, and Image:Superman gift.jpg). In the specific instance of Annette O'Toole's image, I went ahead and left a note for him on his talk page to please not delete the tags in the future. However, what's the correct way to pursue the issue with him repeatedly removing deletion tags off contested images? Macboots 02:34, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Need help with reverting

Malcjennings seems to have made 233 edits over the past few hours. I would revert them manually, but it is quite laborious to do so myself. Would you (or anyone else reading this with tools/popups or other such aids) be able to revert this user, whose edits appear to be nothing more than adding links to a site en masse, or, in a small number of cases, modifying existing links to that same site? Sorry if requesting such edits isn't permitted. --Dreaded Walrus t c 21:11, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Holy mass edits! I'll certainly be glad to get on it. --Moonriddengirl 21:26, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks very much. I'm usually glad to revert vandalism, but that is a bit too daunting for someone like me, who does everything unaided, and on a ridiculous bandwidth cap at this time of night, which would mean it would take literally hours for me to do that. Thanks again. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 21:31, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Administrator

I have a question. How did you become an admin so quick? You have less edits than me, and your account is newer than mine, as far as I know. Whenever I get nominated into RfA, many users opposes me with a few supports, making my RfA unsuccessful. NHRHS2010 Talk 00:06, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. Just to tell you that when I had an RfA, I withdrew it because of opposes. Looking at your RfA, I saw that you had 62 supports and 13 opposes. This told me that even if I have a little more than 10 opposes, then my adminship can pass if I have over 60 supports. NHRHS2010 Talk 00:14, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, and as of October 1, 2007, I had a plan to do mainspace editing on odd-number days (with planned Wikibreak on Halloween), and fight vandalism on even-number days. User:Ryulong passed his adminship with 125 supports, even though he had 55 opposes. I also saw that your RfA had same type of opposes as my RfA (experience concerns). Okay, take a look at this thread please? Both issues? The editor is replacing "sexual intercourse" with "fuck". Now, while neither Mike, nor I, are particularly offended easily, it seems completely un-necessary to do on this page, and then there's the issue of the editor's name, which is an exact match to a hugely well-known corporation. Well, you'll see when you read the thread, hee hee. ArielGold 13:44, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
All right. I'm heading over to check it out. --Moonriddengirl 13:45, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure that it's a clear and blatant case of username policy violation since it's not being used promotionally, but I suspect that its usage is improper since the editor's behavior could cause the company embarrassment. I haven't done much with username violations. However, I've brought the issue up at User talk:Rlevse with an admin who is active at WP:UAA, asking for advice and/or an assist. --Moonriddengirl 13:54, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
You rock, girlie! Seriously. Thanks for stepping in on this. I really would have thought it would be a UAA issue, but either way, if it goes to RFCN I have little doubt it would be disallowed. Of course, I've been proved wrong before, so hey, lol. ArielGold 14:10, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Roots (Everly Brothers album)

Hi. :) I just wanted to point out to you that the above article actually did have a reference when you placed your "unreferenced" tag on it here. The reference is in the infobox and can be traced by following the "link". When I first started working on albums, I was confused by this as well, but this is the standard placement as developed by consensus at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums. I also wanted to note that the article had the "inuse" tag at the top of it at the time you edited. Of course, it is only a request that other editors not edit the article while the tag is in place, in order to avoid edit conflicts, and you were well within your rights to ignore the request, but it is a nice gesture to hold off while the article is under active construction to see how it develops. You may already be well familiar with that template, but since you're on new page patrol I thought I would point it out to you in case you were not. :) --Moonriddengirl 22:23, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, before I say anything else I would like to apologize for the confusion (and sorry about how long it took to get back!). I have generally always hesitated when tagging album articles with unreferenced tags, because I realized there must be some reason hardly any of them cite no external links or references at the bottom of the page. However, I am very familiar with the in use/under constuction tags because I am in the NP Patrol and use it myself when creating articles sometimes. The reason I tagged it was because I saw it was in use, and realized that you must still be working on it, and if you saw the tag, you would add references. (That's where I made the mistake.) I never paid enough attention to the music infoboxes to notice that one link would be the references. Thanks for the notice…and I now have my confusions clarified. jj137 (Talk) 22:29, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Not a problem. :) As I said, when I first started working on albums, I was also confused by the apparent lack of sourcing. I still sort of think they should be on the bottom myself, but that's consensus for you. --Moonriddengirl 00:01, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Question

Howdy hi. If (and only if) you have a second, could you take a look at this [6]? It's a sock puppetry case I filed a couple days ago. Fairly long-term hoaxing (over a year now, I believe) has been going on from various and sundry accounts and IP's (Youtubians with little imagination, or so Google tells me). It may be meatpuppetry too. What I'm buggin' you about, though, is whether there's something else that I could do. I know there's various BADWORDS bots out there. "Rosster" would be a great word to be reverted on sight. But I'm not sure where to go with it. RFCU seems rather pointless. Long-term abuse probably won't get any kind of lasting effect. The sockpuppetry filing seems kinda pointless. I made it because an admin told me that it would be quicker than my reports to AIV had been but...you know, I still say AIV's quicker. Anyway. Any advice? Into The Fray T/C 23:38, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

However we should also have in mind one thing that these developments could have a further implementations, particularly as precedent for other articles. So, we should do our best :D M.K. 13:01, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for help with redirect swap

Thank you for your help with the redirect swap of Walter Tewksbury. The discussion at the Help Desk seemed to be going somewhere I didn't intend, so I continued it on the article's talk page. (I also found evidence that contradicts what Fuhghettaboutit said, from very official places — including the International Olympic Committee, who ought to know!) Thanks again. — Michael J 18:35, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Israel Segal...

...was not "restored as per [my] talk page". You've restored it and expanded it unilaterally, which is not the same thing at all. Please don't try to rewrite history to make me out to be a liar. ➔ REDVEЯS isn't wearing pants 22:45, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Your comment confuses me. I did restore it. For the sake of preserving the authorship history, I had to. My next step was to expand it—something that I was already working on when it was deleted, so it was good to go. If it's possible to change an article before restoring it, I wouldn't even know how. This is the first article I've restored, and if there's some trick to restoring them or some consensus as to how to label it, I'm unaware of it. I'm not attempting to make you out to be a liar. I disagreed with your deletion for the reasons that I put out at your talk page, but all I've done is attempt to work through the dispute the way policy proscribes. If you would rather have restored it yourself, I'd have been happy for you to do so. --Moonriddengirl 22:52, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
You wheel-warred with me and gave an inaccurate edit summary in the deletion log to cover it that makes my previous statements look like lies. This is not the way to run a railway. Please refrain from doing this again. ➔ REDVEЯS isn't wearing pants 22:57, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Wheel-warred? I asked you to restore the article, and you told me to recreate it myself. If you did not intend by that for me to restore the article, then I have misunderstood you, and I'm sorry. It never crossed my mind that you might have intended me to write the article from scratch, since that would exclude the original author of the article from the edit history, which would either violate WP:Copyright or at least be very poor form, since I had never heard of this man before I removed the speedy deletion tag from the article. I would have gladly taken it to deletion review for discussion. Please assume good faith. --Moonriddengirl 23:06, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I'll add that if there's any way to change the log, if I did misunderstand you, I will gladly do so. I went to your talk page in the first place precisely because I did want to settle this properly. I don't see how my edit summary on the restore makes you look to be a liar. I directed the log to your talk page to explain the restoration—which I believed you had authorized me to make—nothing more. If you feel that it somehow puts you in a bad light, I'd be happy to append a note explaining that at your page. (Edited To Add: And I have now done so. I hope that this will satisfy your concerns. Warring with you was never my intention. If anything, I tend to be relatively conflict averse.) --Moonriddengirl 23:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Israel Segal

No worries - I've wikilinked to the Hebrew article, so people can copy across stuff from there - I only had time to do his DOB and name earlier, but I'll have a look at doing more stuff later. I was surprised to see him up for speedy deletion yesterday when I was trawling through Category:Candidates for speedy deletion last night, so I'm glad you restored it. Hebrew is an interesting but terrible language to learn; imagine not having the verb "to have" (instead you have to say "there is to me") or present tense of "to be", and it just gets worse from there... :) пﮟოьεԻ 57 12:25, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I felt like he was probably notable. But I am chagrined that I seem to have restored it over protest (see above), which was not my intention. :/ Sometimes even conversation in your native tongue can be confusing. I can't imagine how you sort out subtext in another language. :O Linguists impress me. :) --Moonriddengirl 12:28, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

LOL But I have no "style"! I seem to use different methods with different people, lol. Some people I'll repeat replies in their entirety on both my page and theirs, other people I don't bother replying on their talk page at all because I know they'll see mine just as soon, and still others I reply completely on their talk page. citing media

thanks for your honest reply about the adoption thing. I'll keep looking, but there aren't many -- if any people mentioning technical anything on the adoption page. Sigh!

Anyway, I had a question: When you are citing media, in the sense of "I am interested in this and want to try and find it later," then how do you cite it? Do you underline the title? Italicize it? Bold it? All three? Should tha author be first or last? I'm not creating full footnote pages, but would like to cite things in the correct wiki way.

thanks! Anamacha 01:15, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

As I said, I'd be happy to help you as I can, but technologically speaking I'm pretty limited. I rely on others to help me out there. :D As far as citations are concerned, the answer is "It depends on the source and on the style you use." There's a guideline at Wikipedia:Citing sources that provides an overview of them. You might find the Wikipedia:Citation templates useful, too. You fill them in, and it formats the citation for you automatically. And even if you don't want to use them, the examples make it pretty clear how they're supposed to look. :) --Moonriddengirl 01:21, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Wikiorphan looking for adoption

Snap pea 03:29, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Hello Moonriddengirl,

I am a new user on Wikipedia. My first article is on seam classifications in the apparel manufacturing industry. Currently my article is very basic. After reading about you I would be delighted to be “adopted”. Any constructive criticism on content and other observations would be welcomed. Please excuse that I am truly a newbie. I look forward to your reply.

Thank you,

P.S. I forgot to mention that the title of my article is "seam types" Snap pea 03:29, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Snap_PeaSnap pea 03:29, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Pictures

Hello Moonriddengirl,

Thank you for adopting me! It is so nice to have a mentor on Wikipedia.

I would like to add simple technical drawings to my article. I have them in a book. I know that if I scan and post them that they will be removed immediately. However, since they’re so simple, I would like to redraw them myself and then post them. Is this okay to do? I do not intend on changing anything in the drawing. I would really like to add visual aids because I think they would be very helpful in the explanation of seam types.

I saw that you added my article to the “see also” section of the Textile Manufacturing article. It was really exciting to see my contributions as a link on someone else’s article. Thank you for your help and positive reinforcement!

New colour scheme

Don't like it - the yellow's too bright. There's an excellent html colour picker here; if you put color=#123456 in the mediawiki software will recognise it, you're not constrained to the "Yellow", "Orangered" etc.iridescent 20:11, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Possible Spam on New Contributors Help Page?

Did you notice that the purology edit on New Contributors Help Page has exactly the same structure as the redken one? It may be the case of the same spammer creating multiple accounts and using each of them to make such edits with the intentions of getting traffic to his/her sites? I may be wrong on this one, but it looks to me like it's blatant advertising so I thoughht I'd consult with you ;) MarkMarek 20:48, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Interesting observation! If it's Spam, I think they've picked a poor place for it, since I doubt it'll get seen by more than a couple of people. I'll go check it out. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:50, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
S/he copied the Redken "article" directly to Redkens and even picked up the subsequent question on the New Contributors page. I was looking to see if it was a copyright violation, but no point: it's already been deleted as spam. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:54, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

I've posted my response here. Please respond on my talk page. Best, --Gp75motorsports 14:09, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

For your review

This may help give some background. Also, you might want to review the methods of "warnings" this editor gives, they are not really what I'd call being in-line with WP:AGF or with the guidelines for recent changes patrollers, warning levels and templates, and the overall method of dealing with unconstructive edits. I think the editor has good intentions as far as wishing to deal with vandalism, but I'm quite concerned that the basics have been ignored, past the point of IAR, and this "project" is unnecessary, and not a good idea. ArielGold 18:43, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Ah! Thanks for background. I share your perspective that this group is not a good idea and have been unable to communicate that to the editor, which is why I was inviting wider participation. I have also mentioned this "proposal" at the WP:VP, but aside from a puzzled comment don't seem to have elicited much response. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:46, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
I'd also urge you to review their talk page from the beginning, as it gives some very good background information, as well as history of the particular problem. ArielGold 18:50, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

hi

  • i noticed yr appeal at WP:ALBUM about assessing articles and whatnot. i fear i may be contributing to yr workload as i'm putting the {{album}} tag on articles without... sorry about that ;-) anyhow, i've never really assessed any for quality before, but just wanted to stop by and give you a shout to show someone's listening, etc... i'm working on general gnomery around the project at the moment but will likely try and give y'a hand later. best, tomasz. 20:39, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi. :) That's actually a big relief to me. I'd hate to think that we traditionally get *that many* new albums to assess in a week. I don't know how many I've assessed, but I'd like to think I'd make some dent in the backlog! Assessing isn't hard for the most part. Once in a while I get one that requires some thought, but usually it's just a matter of slapping a "stub" template on the main article & marking it on the talk page. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:45, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Just thought I'd mention that User:Jogersbot will put an {{album}} tag on appropriate articles providing some bits of info are there. See User talk:AlexNewArtBot/AlbumSearchResult for more. Good job for working on these lists. --Fisherjs 19:56, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the "welcome back", and I apologize for any confusion because the edit was by one of my alternate accounts. I hope you'll continue your good work at the drawing board; I'm rather fully engaged in another Wikipedia-related project. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 21:06, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Not a problem. It's not like it wasn't very quickly evident who you were. I'll continue at the Drawing Board, but you are more than welcome to return whenever you like. Considering how long you flew solo on that, I wouldn't be surprised if you'd like a more extended break. :) You know, people are always very quick to answer at the other help desks. I wonder why this one is such an orphan? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:09, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Dunno, I can only speculate. First, it's a bit of a niche, which means that the questions can get a bit repetitive. Second, if one person has been doing most of the answering (which was the case before I took a spin at it, I think; in any case, I jumped in when someone else said they were going on wikibreak), then other editors probably figure the matter is being handled and they should work elsewhere. Third, it's pretty low volume, so if an editor is interested in helping out, visits to the page are as likely as not to come up empty, either because there were no posts or because the posts have already been answered; after a while, it may seem pointless to spend the time checking.
Maybe the best thing to do is to continue the de facto arrangment in place now: when a editor who has been doing most of the answering decides to shift to something else, or take a break, post at the Wikipedia talk:Help desk page. That sort of makes WP:DRAW a subsidiary of WP:HD, which seems okay to me. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 14:59, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Email

Dear Moondriddengirl:

Could you please suggest an e-mail address where I can write to you privately regarding certain things you've recently corrected on Wikipedia? I don't wish to write about these matters here. Hopefully you can understand.

My own address: Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.214.0.46 (talk) 16:56, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi. If you register for an account, you will see an option in the toolbar on the left-hand side of this page to e-mail me. You can contact me that way. (Many of Wikipedia's editors can be reached in this way, but not all. It is a feature that editors choose to enable.) For privacy reasons, it is better not to put e-mail addresses on Wikipedia pages (which is why I have removed yours here). --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:07, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Please remove

I made a mistake on the Margaret M. Petruska article. I broke a copy right law because I didn't add a link and because (word for word) i copyed it (but i was going to say that the text was taken form the website) so please delete it for me. Thankyou.--Greenwood1010 00:04, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

It's done. For future use, there's a template you can place on a page to request its deletion when you're the only substantial contributor to an article: {{db-author}}. Blank the page and place that at the top, and it will notify the speedy deletion administrators that you request that the page be deleted. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:52, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I wish I could help sort it all out, but I'm afraid that I am not an expert on the history of Poland & Lithuania. My involvement at Sejny, as you know, grew out of a simple interpretation of WP:RSUE. Since I've been involved there, I feel comfortable continuing in that capacity, but as for expanding into other articles, I would really suggest that it matters proceed this way you solicit contributions neutrally at a relevant project, like Wikipedia:WikiProject Eastern Europe. Good luck. :/ --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:42, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Chitauri - Copyright?

You've put a copyright disclaimer on the sandbox-restore of Chitauri that you created for me earlier on. I was under the impression that this page was deleted on notability and verifiability grounds and that there was no copyright issue. I was also under the impression that users who contributed to Wikipedia did so on the understanding that anything that they put on of their own making automatically became more or less public property under GFDL. Is this no longer the case? If so, shouldn't the GFDL notice under the editing box be removed?

perfectblue 15:17, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

The copyright issue arises only in reusing the text of the material without crediting the original authors. As Wikipedia:Copyrights sets out, information on Wikipedia can be used "so long as the new version grants the same freedoms to others and acknowledges the authors of the Wikipedia article used (a direct link back to the article satisfies our author credit requirement)". Since the article has been deleted, there is no way to acknowledge the authors, hence the requirement that the material be rewritten in your own words. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:23, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for voting to delete the wua, a group i co-founded ( wait i thought wikipedia wasn't a Democracy...how can we vote?!?!) any how I am admiting defeat and want the article to be removed so this attack...this nightmare can be done with. I feel everyone wants this stupid fight to be over with. i don't mean to be rude i am just very upset.--Greenwood1010 15:18, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

I understand that you are upset. I have been through processes where my actions on Wikipedia have been scrutinized and questioned, and I know it isn't a comfortable feeling. It isn't, however, an attack. Part of working on Wikipedia is learning to presume good faith and understand that the opinions of others about organizing things aren't necessarily personal. Please see the Five pillars for more about this. Check out #3 and #4.
As I indicated at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Wikipedia_Users.27_Alliance, I believe you are all operating in good faith in spite of my misgivings about this project. Many other editors have made similar comments. If you want to assist the project in handling vandalism, it may be best for you to join one of the existing groups that do so.
As far as the MfD is concerned, I am not in a position to close that debate, because I have substantially participated in the discussion. (And it is a discussion, not a vote. Please see the relevant portion of guideline for clarification.) Another administrator may choose to close it prematurely or may allow the debate to continue, but either way, if you no longer intend to defend the page, you may want to simply leave it alone. Step #2 in the dispute resolution process is to disengage, and it's good advice whether dealing with edits to an article or more global issues like this. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:57, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

The green is beautiful. :) I haven't figured out yet how many other colors are impacted. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:36, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
This impacts nothing. However, you'll notice the same colors on pages like AD's, because he uses the "Class= messagebox" as a design for one of his talk page boxes. If anything, it is just kinda cool to see, but it won't change or impact anything. ArielGold 23:39, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

<reset indent>I meant impact more in the "what it changes" sense. I see that it changes the + and - characters on recent changes. :) I really love the green of the new message. Very vibrant! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:43, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Ohhhhhh yeah I forgot that I'd changed the colors on my watchlist. Those are the only two items, I guarantee it, and if you want to change them back just let me know and I'll tell you what to remove from the .css. But yeah, the only two changes I've made are the new message box, and the color of the + - chars on watchlist. ArielGold 23:46, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
I made my - red just to make it show up more. Other than that, I think I can manage. I really, really like the new message box. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:47, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Hee hee. .js is "javascript", and .css is "cascading style sheet", and it is like, the file that tells your browser how to display content, basically. You can actually customize a whole ton of things via your .css files, but I've really only found the need to do my banner and the + - numbers. I'm glad that you're feeling better, and I do understand that it's disappointing. I hope you saw my reply above. This kind of tension is very common in working on Wikipedia, and reading over those guidelines may help you develop ways to cope with it. Good luck. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:28, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia Users' Alliance

Please note: this message is being sent out to all involved parties. Dear Friend, the Wikipedia Users’ Alliance has been deleted. I am sure that perhaps you already knew this. I myself just found out. Anyhow during the debate many mean and rude things where said. I am not innocent myself; I too contributed to the unpleasantness. But now Wikipedia Users’ Alliance is dead, gone forever. But we all must move on, for me and my friends, we have to deal with this loss. However it is important that all of us work together to fight vandalism and not argue with one another. There are many things that I want to say, but I know that they would only add to the mean sprit that fills the “air”. As a Buddhist (Risshō Kōsei Kai) I was reading the Holy Dhammapada yesterday. I came across this line, “Holding onto anger is like holding on to a hot coal with the intent to throw it at someone, in the end you are the one who gets burned,” how true! Lets us progress forward. WUA Founder User: King of Nepal has expressed similar views such as these to me via e-mail. His majesty said, “We have to move on, move forward. It is in the best interest of Wikipedia and us all.” I agree and hope that you do to. Thanks. --Greenwood1010 12:53, 23 October 2007 (UTC) Co-founder of the WUA.
