blast from the past

hi.

i was reading Fairchild Channel F, and found a difficult-to-believe claim. digging in some dusty historical records, i found this edit, from some 11 years ago or so.

mr. noyce have left fairchild and founded intel in 1968, and it's hard to believe that he actually worked in fairchild on the Fairchild F8, which came into being in 1974-1975, some 6 or so years later. naturally, this claim is unsourced. i wouldn't be bothering you with this ancient history, except that the article still contains the claim "Notably, Robert Noyce had worked on the F8 design team before he left Fairchild to start his own company, Intel." i do not believe this claim to be true, but since my digging shows you as the originator, i thought i'll ask you about it. peace - קיפודנחש (aka kipod) (talk) 23:23, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Textron problems

Hi Maury, the Textron article has had some major problems with COI editors over the past few y ears. As a result, the entire History section has been removed. You wrote the original article nearly 10 years ago. Do you by any chance know what sources you used? Did you use a book, or some websites perhaps? It's OK if you don't remember! Conversion tools

If a file format such as jpg or gif needs to be converted into a different format such as Scalable Vector Graphics or "SVG" format, the easiest means might be to find a free online converter. My old MAC software does not allow for me to make that conversion so I often look for something that is either freeware or shareware that can do the job. I've dug into this and checked NACA sources, and I believe Hallion was essentially correct, although my original edit on this should have been more nuanced. See the last section I wrote in XF-92 talk page. When von Karman interviewed Lippish in May, he was already aware of theory and supersonic wind tunnel experiments (including his own) on sweepback. Von Karman's report to Hap Arnold cites work by Jones and himself and contains the recommendation to build a flying prototype of a supersonic sweepback-wing aircraft. I believe the article should make it clear that Lippisch did the first work on Delta wing and he was consulted (Jenkins and Landis' book says Convair met with him in 1948). But Lippisch's work was not how the Air Force discovered the idea, it was a confirmation of theory and experiments underway in the months prior to the war's end. Some of your new text is highly doubtful – for example: In some circumstances, the aircraft can actually tumble end over end, sometimes at supersonic speeds, and the recovery may be difficult or impossible. Sometimes an intentional rapid pitch-up of the nose by the pilot, such as in a high-speed hairpin turn in a fighter jet, will cause the aircraft to become uncontrollable and it may begin to tumble. Extraordinary claims like these definitely need to be comprehensively sourced because they will be challenged promptly.

The style of your new text appeared to conversational, rather like the style I would expect in a popular flying magazine or a text book for young students. Remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and it is important that it is written in an encyclopedic style.

Thanks for your reply on my Talk page. I now see the problem - Wikipedia's means of determining diffs is rudimentary and sometimes shows old text as new text. My apologies for getting it wrong and reverting your edit.

In your latest edits you have written If the wing is positioned so its CoP lies near CoG for the aircraft, in level flight the wing will lift the aircraft straight up. You appear to be under the impression that the center of pressure is located at a fixed point on the aircraft. That is true for a symmetrical airfoil but not for a cambered airfoil. On a cambered wing, the center of pressure can be as far forward as 25% of the chord, but it can move a great distance aft of that point. At small lift coefficient (eg high speed) the CoP usually lies behind the wing where it causes a significant nose-down pitching moment but only a small lift coefficient. For that reason, the center of pressure is rarely used in rigorous explanations of how wings operate. Instead, the aerodynamic center is used. In any work related to the design of a wing, or analysis of the longitudinal stability of the aircraft, aerodynamic center is used instead of center of pressure. The movement of CoP of a cambered wing is a function of the angle of attack (or lift coefficient) and Mach No.

This is an article about the Tavor, its history and its design. It is not an article about bull put design in general, that article already exists. Selecting specific examples of other bullpup weapons lead the reader to believe there is some connection between the designs. Yet looking over the references in question, I can't see any. If you can demonstrate that the Tavor design team was influenced by the AUG, by all means, put it in. PLATO user interface innovations

Hello — The long-ago creators of the PLATO system actively sought a design that wouldn't confuse or intimidate users who were new to computers, including young children. (To use an anachronistic term, they wanted PLATO to be “user friendly”.) We had debate/discussion about it. The final consensus was that we should not make titles like "List of notable.." But directly "List of.." because we would add only those names that are notable. That's why we got List of occultists, List of Germans and more.

Nepean Bay Conservation Park

Hi Maury Markowitz I recently noticed that you added the following hatnote to Nepean Bay Conservation Park - “This article is about the park in Australia. For the area in Ottawa, Canada, see LeBreton Flats.” This edit puzzled me because there was no mention of a Nepean Bay Conservation Park in the article about LeBreton Flats. Yesterday, I uploaded two stub class articles about Nepean Bay (i.e. the bay on the north coast of Kangaroo Island in South Australia) and Nepean Bay, South Australia (i.e. a small town on the coast of the above-mentioned bay). When checking for ‘Nepean Bay’ globally on Wikipedia, I found two Canadian articles that mentioned ‘Nepean Bay’ with the result that I was able to find that there is a Nepean Bay on the Ottawa River. I was able to add a link to the Nepean Bay in Canada on Nepean (i.e. the Disambiguation page). I am now wondering if you can edit the article about LeBreton Flats to include a mention of the Canadian Nepean Bay? Alternatively, I can revise the hatnote on Nepean Bay. LORAN-C transmitter Seneca

Table of organization and equipment for an ADC company

Hello,

I kind of backed into this subject via James William Lair. I do have an Auto Defense Choc article in progress to complement this. However, since the ADC program began under the French before Lair and the CIA ever showed up, it is unknown how the French equipped the companies they trained. In the process of covering Auto Defense Choc, I can foresee further additions to this TO&E article. Will I wrap this article into that one? Could be. Depends on circumstances.

I find it very difficult to believe there will ever be a reason for two articles, especially one that's simply a list. The entire "list" is less than 1/2 a page and could probably be compressed with a little editing. If the historical notes in the current "list" are removed, there's almost nothing left. Actually, there are already four intertwined and interlinked articles. There is this one, Bill Lair, Operation Momentum, and Operation Pincushion. I expect this article will gain text, as I work up the Auto Defense Choc article to accompany it—possibly a curriculum section. I will probably run into more info on this subject while working on the Lair/Momentum/Pincushion articles. Additionally, it will link to future articles as well. Need some help here

Hi M, calling upon you , Obi Wan Kinobi, again as I have a follower who seems to want to remove imagery from films that I edit under the same basis even though I do not pick out frivolous or fluff images to illustrate key section of the film articles that I work up. As you may know, I am a former filmmaker, and have an interest in particular areas of film production, so I do not create trivial commentary or provide useless imagery. My suggestion is to point to the 2001 article - close enough to jedi for you?! That article has multiple non-PD images in different sections in a fashion similar to yours.
