BARV

Hi, not sure how to edit your submission on Hobarts Funnies, but was doing a bit of research on Canadian RAM tanks, and came across a photo at http://www.ramtank.ca/ram_experiments.htm, this has a photo of a RAM tank fitted out as a BARV (definetly a RAM, its got the nice little induction inlets that replaced the side doors), so at least one must have been produced in Canada for training (much the Australian M3 BARV), 94.14.91.135 (talk) 22:45, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

I've taken the fair use rationale you had supplied at the time and made it clearer. I suggest you move the article to Disney bomb (or Disney Bomb) then the image can be relinked making it no longer an orphan. GraemeLeggett (talk) 12:36, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Had a thought - if the system won't let you move the article to "Disney bomb" because of the edit history at that article name, you can either 1) move to "Disney Bomb" to get the article out there and sort out a pagemove later, or 2) we cna find an admin to do the move for you. I noticed you restored the dead link. I still can't get the document to open. I don't think the link is necessary, since I can source it anyway, and I'm planning to upgrade this article to GA/FA eventually, so it needs to be sorted. Nicholas Fisk

Hi. I have reverted what you have done to the Nicholas Fisk and David Higginbottom pages. I did this for three reasons;

• it was a cut and paste move. This is not the way to move pages.
• Articles should be called by the name they are most commonly and best known as. Higgenbottom is best known as Fisk.
• Please discuss page moves on their talk pages before you do them.

Oh dear. Sounds like an aunt and uncle of mine. Good work on finding the Wrk Nr of the Do 17. I don't think I had that, even though I did get the Dornier Do 17 article to G.A several years back. Hi again. Thanks. You know it is probably the most satisfying yet. These people deserved to be talked about. Dundas was just one of tens of thousands of aces, very good at their craft, which are relegated to a mere footnote in history. Very few RAF personnel are recognised in this way on wikipedia. Misterbee1966 is an editor I have worked with quite often on German personnel, not so much anymore as we've drifted off to do different things, but we still swap information. He has done some epic work on aces and Knights Cross (and higher) winners. I think I'm going to try to bring GA to a number of other British/Commonwealth airman in the same way. This is a photostat of Welsome's newpaper article reprint, which was published in 1993. I don't think that it is available on the web anywhere. Someone is impersonating you

Hello Catsmeat, I had been working on a biography for many months but it continued to get declined. The common reasons for the declination was that it needed to be written in a more encyclopedic tone. I finally gave up on the article. A few weeks ago I received an email (not a message on my talk page) from someone claiming to be a wikipedian editor with high privileges. She said that she could rewrite the biography in an encyclopedic tone and get it published (for a fee) and referred me to your userpage, claiming that it was her own. I just wanted to alert you because I know that this type of impersonation is happening with other legit editors as well. Roberta Cowell

Hello, due to your huge input on the Roberta Cowell page I thought it might interest you to know that a production company have just finished filming a documentary on her and in particular her relationship with Michael Dillon. There will be an interview with one of Betty's daughters (my mother) in the Telegraph on the 24th of this month with the documentary to be aired on Channel 4 shortly thereafter. G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

Gliding Vs flying

I am curious about how you got the idea that an airplane cannot glide (maintains adequate speed to prevent a stall, by using the force of gravity instead of engine power) if its engine(s) are still operating? [[1]]

FYI, airline pilots make regular use of the gliding mode during their descents, by pulling engine thrust back to inflight-idle thrust and then utilizing the power of gravity to keep the IAS safely above the stalling speed for any given weight and altitude. There really isn't any significant difference in an airliner maintaining adequate safe airspeed during a descent via the force of gravity, with engines still running or with them not running. About all one can say is that if the engines are running in idle mode, during the descent, the plane might be able to glide a bit further than with no engines running at all. Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
• updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Synchronization gear

Hi! Most interested in the IWM picture of a synchroniser test rig! I have had a go at getting more details about it, but can't find anything but the IWM page. It is most certainly not a Vickers-Challenger gear, as the link to the "propeller" is either a hydraulic line (or perhaps a flexible drive?) - definitely no sign of the Vickers-Challenger's push rod. I suspect it is not a "CC" gear either - the roughness and makeshift nature of the whole thing seems to indicate a "field" experiment, put together out of bits and pieces available "to hand" at, say, an operational squadron.

I believe, in fact, that it is a picture of the experimental hydraulic gear designed and tested by Air Mechanic Betteridge of No. 1 squadron Australian Flying Corps in 1917 (his unit were serving in the Middle East at the time). Information about this gear, which was apparently reported to higher command and ignored, is hard to come by - but I have long considered adding a little note with what I can glean about it - and if I can connect it a little more firmly than my current surmise with this graphic so much the better! --Soundofmusicals (talk)

Copying within Wikipedia

You may by now be aware of the requirements on copying text within Wikipedia if so apologies for reiterating something you already know.

With this Revision as of 08:55, 23 April 2012 to IJmuiden, you copied text from Disney bomb (and possibly another article). Editors have to attribute the copying of text from one article to another to meet the requirements of the guideline. It is a copyright violation not to do so. However see the section "Other reasons for attributing text" there are other reasons for attribution including making it easier for editors to fix citations in the editor who makes the copy does not copy over the full citation. -- PBS (talk) 18:49, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

Userbox

Hi, I noticed you contributed to one of the past Imperial College userboxes, and are one of the only editors who has who's still around. A little while ago I revamped the userbox colours and imagery, and more recently I have recreated a free-use SVG coat of arms, which it can use. Just wondering if you had any comments—I don't particularly want to go round messing people's userpages up. Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations opening soon

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are opening in a few hours (00:01 UTC on 1 September). A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes.
