Family Home Entertainment

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Family Home Entertainment and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tina-Desiree Berg both had consensus in favour of removal of the articles, hence why I acted on them. Upon review, nothing said here is a sufficient reason to overturn chiefly due to the low quality of the sources. Please continue any discussion at WP:DRV or WP:ANI if desired, any more rants here will be reverted. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:16, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

Last month, you redirected the Family Home Entertainment page to Artisan Entertainment and locked it because someone stupidly decided that the company isn't notable, but it is notable because it was a big name for VHS and a lot of its VHS's are collected by buffs. Most of the reliable sources found for the article came from Google Books, mainly the Billboard magazines, so it barely has reliable news sources. But here are more sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Family_Home_Entertainment#More_references 89.11.210.35 (talk) 22:29, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

Well, "big name for VHS" and "a lot of its VHS's are collected by buffs" are not by default an indicator of notability. Openly editable wikis are not usually acceptable as sources so I recommend you remove them from the draft. I'll have to look at the draft tomorrow. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 22:45, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
But I'm trying to prove it with those Google Books sources, why did you ask me to remove them? Can't you read them? 95.59.202.157 (talk) 22:47, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
Um, "openly editable wikis". Not "Google Books". It's late here so I am not going to read the latter immediately, but the former are not OK as sources. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 22:48, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm not saying the link to the draft is a source itself, I said I added more source links in the "More references" section, and you can just take the more reliable ones and add them. Look again if you don't believe me: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Family_Home_Entertainment#More_references 95.59.202.157 (talk) 22:50, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
Again with not being clear. The draft has links to openly editable wikis such as Wikia in the "more references" section. These need to go, as they are not reliable sources and you cannot establish notability with them. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 22:52, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
I removed the wiki links now, but I wish you know what Family Home Entertainment is, like most VHS fans and people aware of it. 95.59.202.157 (talk) 22:56, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
I took a look at the sources, none of them jump out as clear cut. I wonder what the people who recommended deletion have to say: @Ymblanter, Jonesey95, 0xF8E8, and Lemongirl942: Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:37, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
I am concerned the IP editor invested in this article has no understanding of what trivial mentions are and why none of the references are particularly convincing in terms of notability, particularly the notability guidelines for corporations. My 2 cents: this is a pretty clear case of citation overkill masking non-notability. The sourcing of the present draft is provided by Billboard listings and movie reviews which credit FHE as the producer of the movie and never mention its name again; the draft article reflects the sourcing, as a bulky, list-obsessed mess with the only substantial content being unsourced (e.g. the properties list). Veni, Vidi, Video: The Hollywood Empire and the VCR is the closest to something which actually substantially covers the company, but that's still one paragraph, a terrible indicator of notability overall. The sourcing provided under "More references" is a mixed bag composed of questionable sources which still barely refer to the company at all. I've tried to search for some good sourcing myself but what I can find largely refers to it in the context of Artisan Entertainment, which just reinforces my earlier perceptions. —0xF8E8 (talk) 11:26, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Exactly. A whole lot of them are trivial mentions. More importantly, I see that quite a lot of the information already exists on Wikipedia. For example at List_of_Artisan_Entertainment_video_releases#As_Family_Home_Entertainment and Artisan_Entertainment#1980s. I would suggest improving the target pages, instead of creating a new page and duplicating content. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 11:30, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
I agree with the two above comments, which is essentially what I said at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Family Home Entertainment. Every mention in the linked sources is trivial. The editor attempting to create this article should read (or re-read) WP:GNG, specifically "'Significant coverage' addresses the topic directly and in detail, so that no original research is needed to extract the content. Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material." (emphasis added by me)
And remove the link to a student essay uploaded to coursehero.com, an apparent academic-cheating-promotion site. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:56, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Seriously, all of you, I'm TRYING to PROVE the company's existence with those dang sources, so it HAS to deserve a separate article! 85.196.227.118 (talk) 22:05, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Please see WP:ITEXISTS. Merely existing is not enough to have an article here. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 05:39, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
I don't care! It doesn't MERELY exist, it just EXISTS! There are LOTS of VHS's and others released by the COMPANY ITSELF up until 2005! If you keep saying that it's "not notable", then just get someone else like Ryanasaurus0077 to do the bloody research! 5.151.220.5 (talk) 15:55, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
@5.151.220.5: What I and numerous others have attempted to communicate to you is that we have guidelines for inclusion that this subject simply does not meet. We do not have an article on a subject because it exists, but rather because it meets those guidelines; you have advanced no argument for its inclusion based on those guidelines, but rather deflected your own responsibility to demonstrate that and wasted numerous' others time insulting them. It's not rocket science; an article needs significant coverage in reliable sources, not a bunch of movie reviews and Billboard listings which barely mention the company at all. You are welcome to add material to the numerous other areas where movie listings and such are already covered, like List of Artisan Entertainment video releases#As Family Home Entertainment. The VHS collectors you keep mentioning would be aided substantially more by contributions there rather than trying to cram it into a lengthy section of poorly sourced prose. —0xF8E8 (talk) 19:54, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

I agree with leaving this company but Jo-Jo deletes away! JO JO- get a grip. You clearly know nothing of 1990s home video boom. If you did you woulndnt have deleted Tina-Desiree Berg or the 3 others. You are not contributing in a constructive means whatsover.45.48.175.180 (talk) 15:58, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

I know enough to say that none of these things make either article notable by default. Other people here and in the deletion review have explained what would need to happen for them to become notable, badly spelled offtopic rants won't. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:50, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

WRONG! IF you have NO knowledge on the topic you should not be commenting or deleting. PERIOD. Is veracity not the goal here? The Tina-Desiree Berg article was heavily cited. At least 22 independant references. Yet- your response is "what part of closed do you not understand". Absurd. And the other actors with fewer credits and close to no references you leave untouched? Really? Again- no logical explanation from you. If we are to apply your standard both here and with the Tina-Desiree Berg article- you should have also deleted Jason Johnson and JJ North. Zero consistency. Zero credibility. And clearly its with several articles. Stop involving yourself with topics you are not an expert in. Let those that are decide. And be consistent with your qualifications if you want respect. And if you had any honor at this point you would undo the delete45.48.175.180 (talk) 21:00, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Will

Nope. First, it was not me who told you that discussion was closed. Secondhandly, "independant references" are not by default proof of notability and you have consistently ignored the points made about this by other editors above - the sources in the article I deleted are either only mentioning the name of the subject, are not independent or are unreliable. Third, administrators need to assess the consensus established by other editors, they do not need to be experts in a given subject as one's own personal opinion on a subject is not a valid reason for deletion (or keeping), and other good or bad pages exist, they don't affect the standing of this one. If you feel the need to contest this close some more please do so at WP:DRV or WP:ANI. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:16, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Help required - as a neutral party

Hi Jo-jo, I hope you are well. You recently removed a number of diffs from an old talk page of mine (User talk:Nordic Dragon) which had a personal telephone number on it. It has since been moved, for speedying - I am now being accused that it was from my current talk page. Wrongful deletion of page JON ASHER

You have speedied a deletion on an article of a working songwriter with major credits. This is looked at seriously and we ask that you restore the deletion before we take further action. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keyofgemini (talkcontribs) 00:11, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

If you mean Jon Asher, the folks at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jon Asher decided that the page was written in an overly promotional manner and was a topic that does not meet our WP:N guidelines, see also WP:GNG. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 06:44, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Removing backlinks after deletion

Hi, thank you for your work on the encyclopedia. I noticed that after deleting TripHobo, links to that page from various other articles remained in place; I have removed them now.

WP:AFDAI encourages us to clean up redlinks after deletion. If you normally do this and overlooked it on this occasion, please pardon my interruption. Otherwise, I hope this is helpful. Best wishes – Fayenatic London 14:15, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Fayenatic london Greetings. Generally speaking I do not remove backlinks by default, as most AfDs are not "this isn't going to be suitable for an article, ever" closes and I don't have a crystal ball to predict otherwise. Especially that one where the deletion arguments emphasize that they apply mainly to the current state of the topic. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:26, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
I don't read that particular AfD that way; nor the guidance at WP:AFDAI. The links in this case were bare entries under the "See also" heading of articles for other companies in the same sector, and such links are not desirable as redlinks. Thanks anyway for taking the trouble to reply. – Fayenatic London 21:29, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of Article about Lancom Systems GmbH

Hi Jo-jo. I am a German newbee in the US wikipedia. The article about Lancom Systems GmbH was deleted after a discussion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Lancom_Systems_GmbH. Things did change during the last few weeks. There are many articles on Lancom not only in German press, abut also in international media. Here ist just a short list:

This is just a short list. Ralf Koenzen, the CEO of Lancom Systems GmbH is writing a regular clumn in the German business weekly Wirtschaftswoche. Lancom Systems is number 2 among the manufacturers of b2b-network hardware in Germany (after Cisco). I do believe the decision for delete should be revoked. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikausch (talkcontribs) 10:20, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Greetings, @Mikausch:. Many of these sources seem like offhand mentions which don't support notability. Of these which don't, I don't know whether they are reliable and independent. I'd try to send the article to Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:32, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

deleted Simone Ahuja

My name is Carissa. I was updating the Wikipedia info For Simone Ahuja. She is an author of Jugaad and her links were posted from HBR.org.

The entire description of Simone Ahuja has been deleted.

If you can help me restore her page, I'd appreciate this so much. Even if you put it back up with the original posts prior to Sept 2016.

I am not sure why she was deleted off Wikipedia.

Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Carissa — Preceding unsigned comment added by Buckrun10 (talkcontribs) 12:46, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @Buckrun10: This dicussion here led to the deletion of the article you ask about- the administator was carrying out the wishes of the community. The discussion indicates it was deleted as being effectively an advertisment: please note that Wikipedia is not a place to promote people. Hope this helps, Muffled Pocketed 13:06, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
@Buckrun10: Probably best if you go through Wikipedia:Articles for creation for now. Remember, it's generally best if the sources you use are reliable (see WP:RS), substantial and independent from the subject. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:20, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Greetings, Tiwanainder. The folks at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dr Archika Didi decided that there simply isn't enough coverage to write an article with. Not all sources that one can find about a subject are good; for example, the sources need to go somewhat in-depth and they need to have a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. It doesn't seem like either source in the article was enough. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:23, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Löschung von Lancom Systems GmbH

Hallo,

Hallo, @Trockennasenaffe:.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jon Asher (2nd nomination)

Hi Jo-Jo Eumerous. Just wondering if Jon Asher needs to go through another AfD or if it could simply be tagged for speedy per WP:G4. The first AfD was only a few weeks ago and from the reading the comments of that AfD it does not seem that the article has been significantly improved or that the prior issues have been addressed. I am also a tad bit concerned by the article's creators use of the word "we" in their user talk page posts such as here, here and here. It could be nothing, but in combination with this it might indicate a problem per WP:NOSHARE. There is a big gap in the edit history of Keyofgemini from September 23 to November 1 and I'm guessing that is because the edits during that time span were made to the previously deleted version of "Jon Asher". -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:45, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. OTRS?

Hi Jo-Jo. I recall that you ran on a platform of being one of the four or so editors on this project that understand how files work. Would you be at all interested in helping out with the permissions queues on the Volunteer Response Team? We badly need competent editors who either understand copyright or are willing to learn about it to help process incoming emails. Personally, I find it to be a fun diversion from more standard work on the project, and it's immensely important to properly process the emails from individuals considering donating media for use on the English Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Commons. Please let me know if you'd be interested. ~ Rob13Talk 01:31, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Um, to be honest while this is probably a more fun job than deleting images, I suspect it will consume an inordinate amount of time to handle such requests. Real life doesn't suck up that much time but there is still only some time left for writing articles, and I have a long queue there. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:24, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Jo-Jo Eumerus.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
