Hehe

Hi, Harry. Creating an account called Teacheratmyschool is a little touching, don't you think? :-) Can they be more than eight? Bishonen | talk 19:35, 12 May 2017 (UTC).

  • Oh hey, Teacheratdatschool just turned up in the user creation log, making the scenario look a little less touching. I blocked it for block evasion, just so the little "#€%&/(¶¶‰ will get the impression we know everything. Bishonen | talk 19:44, 12 May 2017 (UTC).

Saint Petersburg

Hi, remember The Mad Lad From Saint Petersburg?[1] He's recently been using IPs that are slightly outside the range block. Since his style is so recognizable, in the SPI I mostly left it up to an admin who knows the Mad Lad to confirm the connection. However the checkuser request was unexpectedly declined before said testimony occurred. Now on the one hand I'm being lazy, but on the other hand much time would be saved if an admin would say, "Yep, that's him". Manul ~ talk 14:57, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

Hello,

I am following up on a previous message below:

Semi-protection of Andy Warhol

Hi, Harry. I'm wondering if you would be open to un-protecting Andy Warhol as it has been three years that it has been semi-protected. Thanks, 142.160.131.202 (talk) 06:45, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

Henia Perlman's Request for Mentorship

1. I would appreciate your mentorship.

2. I would also like that you to see how I behave/my comments in the Talk page of the article Holocaust or other articles, so I can improve my interaction with others, and actively learn the ropes of wiki, without disrupting by wrong editing.

3. I have no intention to edit any article in wiki, besides posting suggestions, mentioning citations that are missing, and sharing thoughts to be considered by other editors.

I found you, because you nominated ONUnicorn for administrator position. I also asked him to be my mentor. I still didn't hear from him

I would like to have two new mentors at least, who were not involved in my issues, because I have great difficulties learning the ropes of wiki.

I was blocked for 31 hours (see details in my user page), and I didn't challenge that.

I read that you are "patient ... {have} thoughtful judgments and considerations on all perspectives on the issue."

I do hope that you will agree to be one of my mentor, or the only one Looking forward to hear from you. Henia Perlman (talk) 23:52, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

I can only repeat the post that I put on CaroleHenson's T/P
Our friend appears to be flailing about, seeking new helpers based upon their last responses, or something I do not quite understand. It may well be that our colleague is actually very impatient and requires immediate and favourable responses, based on subjective impressions of her helpers' usefulness to their current POV, perception of how WP operates or way our friend maybe wishes to shape the article. I have rarely if ever seen such collective goodwill shown to a new colleague on WP. I do think that our friend should now make their own way on WP. The useful bank of information that you, I and many others have provided should now be enough. The sheer volume of constructive advice given has been enormous. I would advise that we gently disengage-while still providing basic support on a case by case basis-and allow events to take their course. I truly hope that they take a positive course. Now it is up to our friend. Irondome (talk) 01:43, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Henia, you are casting off mentors and help like they are used paper tissues. Do you not feel that those colleagues may be actually confused and even slightly upset? They are not playthings. I am becoming concerned. I am sorry to have to say this but I am thinking WP:CIR is the major issue here now, with behavioural issues that I cannot put my finger on. You are being selfish Henia. You are learning nothing it saddens me to write. I asked you at the beginning, right at the beginning to leave the Holocaust article alone [[3]] but you persist. You treated Carole poorly and I fear your stock of goodwill here is now at a low ebb. I ask you one last time to edit simply, choose simple articles and learn the ropes. That's all. Irondome (talk) 00:34, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Close an RM maybe

Hi Harry – long time no talk, but I can see you're busy with real life. I wonder if I could impose a little job on you that's right up your street. There's a requested move at Talk:Danish Frogmen Corps where there's a difference of opinion over whether the best title to move it to is Frogman Corps or Frogman Corps (Denmark). The question is precision or conciseness, but the debate is very amicable. If you had few minutes, could you read the debate and close it as an uninvolved admin, please? Cheers --RexxS (talk) 10:50, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Henia Perlman is asking for an official full investigation

I am asking for a complete official investigation under the leadership of HJ Mitchell, of Carole Henson, Simon Irondome, Ealdgyth, and other persons who have been interacting with me, and involved in my blocking.

"We always must value the project as a whole more than we value the contributions of any individual editor. ... The best good will is for naught if a basic understanding of the facts, their mainstream interpretation, and their cultural context are lacking."

I applaud the efforts and good will of Ealdgyth to read many books on the Holocaust, and almost single-handed editing the Holocaust article. I tried to collaborate and discuss issues with her. First, she said that the issue of the European Jewish refugees in Shanghai is U/W. Later she added about them, choosing to use an author who wrote one or two books on military of WWII (out of his 100 books), and is definitely not a Holocaust scholar. As per yesterday, despite my mention of it, the wrong name of the author is still in the bibliography. The statement about the European Jewish refugees in Shanghai should be changed, for the sake of the article. I provided Carole Henson at least three very reliable sources.

My attempts to help out with with a better structure of the article, citations that Ealdgyth couldn't find (and nobody still didn't asked from me), and adding about the European Jewish refugees in Shanghaihas, are causing disruption. Carole Henson admitted that I have been making progress with technology.

I strongly believe in collaboration in editing.

It seems to me that Ealdgyth's edits are reflecting a lack of "a basic understanding of the facts, their mainstream interpretation, and their cultural context."

I strongly believe that a well-sourced and well structured Holocaust article, edited with a good spirit of cooperation, is more valuable than the contributions of one individual editor.

"We always must value the project as a whole more than we value the contributions of any individual editor."

I know I am repeating myself. I do like this sentence, because it summarizes quite well the current situation and the real issues.

Carole Henson denied that Ealdgyth has been single-handed editing the Holocaust article, despite the fact that she had made about 40 edits in one day.

I do not dare posting to Talk of the Holocaust article, and provide the missing sources to Ealdgyth, because of veiled threats that I would be blocked forever from wiki. I believe them, since I have seen how some tried to exploit my innocent use of two names to block me for a second time. Now, I am being accused of being selfish, incompetent and rejecting the mentorships offered to me.

As Rivertorch understood quite well, I wanted a mentor who was not involved in my issues.

"Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten."

"I stick around because I want to help make the encyclopaedia even better than it already is."

I think a full official investigation is needed. integrity, accountability, and confidence in Wikipedia are important.

Thank you. Henia Perlman (talk) 18:18, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Henia Perlman HJM's talk page is not the place for this. Please read WP:ASPERSIONS then read WP:BATTLEGROUND. After that if you still feel compelled to pursue this you will need to open a thread at AN/I. I will tell you that, based on experience, you better be able to present actual evidence of inappropriate behavior by the editors in question as they are all long time contributors to WikiP and they have a good grasp of its policies and guidelines. MarnetteD|Talk 18:59, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
Henia Perlman, Other than the fact that I did tell you that were were making progress on communication on user talk pages (here), much of what you have said above is just not true, such as "Carole Henson denied that Ealdgyth has been single-handed editing the Holocaust article". That is not at all what I said, nor would I have inferred that someone making significant efforts to cleanup an article (while working with others) is a wrong thing to do.
You have misconstrued or left out big chunks of information about what I have said to you or done on many occasions and it's getting old. I ignored a lot to keep the peace.–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:30, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Marnett, Thank you for your kind advice.
I do trust your experience.
I am very much aware that "the editors in question ... are all long time contributors to WikiP and they have a good grasp of its policies and guidelines."
That's why, I am asking my mentor, who is also an administrator, to help me with my request for an investigation.
I had to request an investigation.
I realized that my choices were limited, after the veil threat, that if I even post in Talk page, to help providing missing sources to Ealdgyth for example, I may be subjected to a block forever.
I am asking my mentor to help me, because unlike the editors in questions, I don't have a good grasp of WikiP's guidelines and policies.
Marnett, I would also appreciate your help how to present my case.
Is it fair that I loose my case, because "the editors in question ... are all long time contributors to WikiP and they have a good grasp of its policies and guidelines"?
Looking forward to hear from you Marnett and my mentor ONUnicorn.
Marnett, thank you again for your well-founded concern.

Henia Perlman (talk) 21:43, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

In the interest of transparency and to assist Henia in any investigation, I believe that Henia's allegations of "veiled threats" above (18:18, and 21:43 29 June) most likely refer to my comments at RickinBaltimore's talk page here, or later at 01:32 28 June in that same thread. Cordially, Mathglot (talk) 18:13, 1 July 2017 (UTC)   Courtesy pinging @Irondome and Ealdgyth:, because Henia mentioned them in her first sentence above, but didn't notify them. Mathglot (talk) 18:35, 1 July 2017 (UTC)
Mathglot, I don't think that I saw your name singled out anywhere regarding the request for investigation. If Henia decides to pursue an investigation, I am happy to provide any diffs that would be helpful as well that aren't already included in User talk:Henia Perlman#The block about the warnings I gave her or anything else that would be helpful. Based on the circumstances, I think that would be a very sad, wasted effort for her and be even more frustrating, otherwise I would have provided the link. I am hoping that the conversations at User_talk:Ealdgyth#FYI means that things are getting sorted out. If either of her mentors support the idea or she moves ahead on her own, though, I am happy to oblige with any diffs as well.–CaroleHenson (talk) 02:05, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
CaroleHenson Thanks for the heads-up. I had actually already seen your bullet-list chronology and diffs, and I know how much time it takes to put something like that together, so a big thank you for that. In my post above I just wanted to show that I am for transparency from the get-go, and I certainly won't stand in Henia's way if she wants to pursue one, and will even give her diffs she might not have known how to find or construct (as above) and I would be happy to give her links on where to find the right procedures for launching investigations, should she want them. I don't think it's in her interest to do so, and I think it would have a pretty fair chance of having the opposite effect than the one she expected, but but that's her call, not mine, and she has as much right as anybody to go that route if she thinks it's appropriate. Again, thanks for your chronology; I was actually thinking of something along those lines, but even more comprehensive, with links to all the article and user talk pages, but I think that's premature at this point; and what you wrote, like baby bear's porridge, seems "just right." Mathglot (talk) 02:32, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

Cross-post notification: A verbatim copy of Henia's 29 June post above was posted to User:ONUnicorn's talk page an hour later. Henia, if you're monitoring: this is a minor point, but it's a courtesy to provide links to cross-posts, and it also helps save readers' time in navigating the myriad similar conversations. User:Neptune's Trident and Gamergate sanctions

In 2015 you banned Neptune's Trident from "making any edit or participating in any discussion relating to the gamergate controversy, broadly construed". I'm not sure if those sanctions are still in effect, but I chanced upon the creation of Infogalactic (website) by Neptune's Trident in December 2016 while looking through his page creations for possible conflicts of interest. Infogalactic was created by Vox Day who "was an early supporter of Gamergate" according to his article. I'm not sure what the correct course of action is now for something that was done seven months ago, but I thought it was worth pointing out. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 00:52, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

@World's Lamest Critic: There's not really anything that can be done about something so old, and the connection to gamergate is a bit tenuous. If you come across something recent that concerns you, you can raise it at WP:AE. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 07:21, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

RfA Candidate Poll

Thanks for stopping by my RfA candidate poll. I thought I wasn't going to see any new comments on it. I am definitely committed to improving the accuracy of my CSD tagging. Could you please elaborate on what bad advice you think I was given in the RfA poll? Thanks. — InsertCleverPhraseHere 07:15, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

@Insertcleverphrasehere: Hi. You're welcome and I hope the feedback was useful even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Without wishing to single anyone out, the bad advice I was referring to was the suggestions that CSD tagging wasn't likely to be a major sticking point at RfA or that CSD tagging is just one of RfA's passing crazes. There are plenty of those, each sillier than the next (namespace percentages, AfD statistics, automated edits...), but CSD tagging is generally seen as a good indicator of how a candidate would act as an admin and it's been an issue at RfA for a long time. It came up in my first RfA eight years ago and it was already a well-established oppose rationale by then. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:53, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Request to remove page protection for David Ortiz

Hi there. I noticed that the page David Ortiz has been semi-protected for over three years for BLP violations. I'd like to request that semi-protection be removed on a provisional basis to see if the BLP problems have been reduced. The subject of the article retired in 2016 and should no longer be in the national spotlight. I think it's worth reconsidering the ban on participation from unregistered users by now. Thanks for your time! Feel free to reply here, as I'll be watching for a response. AlexEng(TALK) 20:27, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Unblock of Boobaby122?

This user was blocked about a year ago, and they've played the "my sister did it" card. Because it's been a year, I'm inclined to unblock them—with the understanding that they're responsible for all future edits from their account, regardless of who is at the keyboard. What's your take on the block; are you okay with the unblock? My thought is, it's a well-watch account, so future edits will be subject to an above-average level of scrutiny; also, if they mess up this time around, they've used their last chance. —C.Fred (talk) 16:02, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

I am most interested in whether you think I have posted in the right place. This has been questioned and no one but me has posted since.

If you also want to respond to the orignal issue that I posted, that would be a bonus... although obviously, if I have posted in the wrong place I understand if you would rather wait until I or someone brings it up in the correct place.
