Hey DarkToonLink. I just wanted to let you know regarding the vandalism warning you sent over to User talk:75.73.116.119. Wikipedia will not tolerate vandalism and you clearly showed that to that vandal. However, always deny recognition to the trolls. All they want is attention and if you give them warnings in all caps and personal, then it's likely they won't stop their behavior and the warning will actually be counterproductive. So, we have established a system of user warning templates that are welcoming to new users at first but grow more severe as the vandalism progresses. A full list of these warning templates are at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. You don't always have to start out with a level 1 warning, but it is sometimes also not ok to start off with a level 4.

You're welcome; I had to be told about them in the past as well. When responding to talk messages, you may also add {{Talkback|Larrythefunkyferret}} on the user you're replying to's talk page and respond on your page, rather than breaking up the conversation between both talk pages (like I just did on yours). Get all the information about its variants here. This can make it easier for ongoing discussions, so it can be continued in one place and the other user informed they have been replied to. I have a bachelors degree in computer science; you'd think I'd be more aware of the templates, but in this case I usually just watch the page of the person I'm talking to in case you respond here. Bethesda on Wii U development

Hi, mazty here, I'll clarify the source and how it mentions the target audience:

"It depends on the games that we are making and how we think it aligns with that console, and how the hardware aligns with the other stuff we are making. We will see." http://www.computerandvideogames.com/419305/bethesda-has-no-games-in-development-for-wii-u

The latter part clearly is in reference to hardware, but the former is clearly to do with the consoles audience as a literal definition would make no sense. They are talking about the Wii U's target audience, and if their games would align with the target audience because clearly they do not literally mean "align with the console" as that would make no sense. Let me know what you think because even if you still do not agree, the statement can just omit that part and be reinstated. Cheers. Mazty (talk) 11:04, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

I understand your point, however I felt the way you worded it suggested Bethesda was criticising the console's hardware, however they simply suggested they would only make games for it if it made sense for their games to use the console's features. Thanks for explaining, although there may be other sources that talk about the 'target audience' thing (I believe there were comments from Deep Silver about that). As part of the 'Sales' section, it is important to note major publishers such as EA, and Ubisoft's decision not to make exclusives until sales increase, however I don't think we need to list every developer not currently making games for it. Thanks for the reply. The comment to do with hardware was neither criticism nor praise, but just an explanation - hardware is a reason they are not developing games for it and we honestly can't read into it any more than that. Also Bethesda are a joint games publisher & developer (softworks publish, game studios dev) rather than just a developer, hence why I think it'd be reasonable to include them with EA and Ubisoft as the quote was from softworks, not game studios. That being said, it doesn't belong in the 'Sales' section because those comments weren't to do with the size of the system's install base. I'm not sure if it belongs in reception section either, because the source doesn't really specifically say whether Bethesda like it or not. Maybe if it fits somewhere else in the article it may be more appropriate commentary for a different section. But there are quite a few publishers not publishing Wii U games, and it really isn't necessary to list all of them, only ones that were highly notable such as EA. Good point; however on reflection I do think reception is the correct place for it as this is Bethesda's reaction to the console as a whole (hardware, audience etc, ergo reception) rather than a reaction to sales (sales). Considering the prominence of Bethesda as they publish several large franchises (Fallout & The Elder Scrolls, games by id software, Wolfenstein etc) it seems arbitrary to include EA and Ubisoft but not Bethesda. OK, but I do think the reception section needs a lot of work, as it only cites a very limited number of reviews and then discusses various publishers who have spoken negatively about the system. I understand that Bethesda are fairly major, however there needs to be a line drawn in regards to how many publishers should be listed. But I suppose you can see how you can work this source in if you want. You may wish to discuss with some other editors, and sorry but I won't be able to get back to you for a little while if you respond here. (I need sleep!) I've worked the source in & kept it free from personal interpretation. Previously there was a large RfC over some of the content that's now found in reception; the main issue that became evident from the RfC is that the term "generation" is incredibly poorly defined, if defined at all. Certain companies e.g. EA, use an in-house definition of generation and whether EA's system is different to how other publishers define generation, and if so, by how much, we cannot be certain. What can be seen however is that this term does affect how the publishers "treat" consoles. There's no rush to sort this out, so no worries.Mazty (talk) 12:33, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, that RfC led to some of those comments from EA being included there, and do form a key part of the console's reception. The way you have now re-introduced that source in the Reception section seems more appropriate, however I think the comments may integrate into what EA and Ubisoft said. EA and Bethesda both claim to have nothing in the works at the moment, (although the situation with EA is a bit unclear) however both studios are open to the possibility of working with it in the future [1]. Ubisoft are also committed to maintaining long-term support to the Wii U [2], as they have been supporters of it so far. So the reception section could mention something along the lines of the fact that companies such as EA and Bethesda are uninterested in currently supporting it, although are open to the possibility of doing so in the future. And as sort of mentioned in the article, Ubisoft will no longer develop exclusives due to lack of profitability, although they still find development cheap so they are happy to do multiplats for it, and continuously re-iterate their faith in Nintendo. Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day

Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.

Quality

Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Headings

Does this article have an appropriate section structure?

Images

Is the number of illustrative images about right?

Links

Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?

Sources

For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

I was going to tell you to go request being a rollbacker, and then I realized that I personally have the rights to give you that. So yeah, I definitely trust you with it, you are definitely responsible and take things seriously, so there you go, you've got it! (My personal favorite part about rollback rights is an indirect feature; since it says "rollback" next to every place you can use rollback, its interesting to look at people's contribution list and see how often it shows up; if you see it, it confirms that the person's edits haven't been removed. Its good to get an idea of how much of a vandal's work was left behind. Not sure if that makes sense or not, but once you use it for a bit, hopefully you'll get what I mean...) Article Feedback Tool update

Hey DarkToonLink. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Thanks for your kind words too. I'm glad I've had a positive effect on your interest here; I love being and Admin, but sometimes, it just results in so many "Serge, you're the bad guy." type comments and it gets a little old, so its always nice to hear positive comments. Oh, and don't worry about that first interaction of ours, I had forgotten all about that, and that wasn't that bad anyways, it was merely something I jumped on right away because it had been a large discussion I had been involved in prior to you jumping in. Besides, I think we all have some early arguments or actions we're not proud of. I know there were a few arguments from my first days here that I'd never make now, like ones about adding trivia to music articles that could only be proved by fansites and forum posts. Whoops. But I think it all comes down in how you react to it; some get mad and never come back, while other listen to the advice, and take that to learn how to contribute. I'm glad we've both done the latter. I'll just leave this here: I'd actually read the Skyward Sword article quite a bit before joining, and I'd seen those words thrown in-and-out repeatedly. I guess I didn't really know all the consensus stuff from back then, so that's how that happened. I've come a long way since then. But it's been interesting interacting with some of the people who wrote the articles I had read for years, before finally learning what goes into them. I removed your links because they breached Wikipedia's external link policy. Typically, these should be listed at the end of the article in the appropriate section, rather than in the body. Also, the text accompanying the links seemed to breach the neutral point of view expected in an encyclopaedia. If you feel unofficial remakes are notable, then they could be added in an appropriate section in the article, however I don't think the links you provided would be described in enough reliable sources for that to happen.
