DYK for Chains of Love (TV series)

edit

On 17 October 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Chains of Love (TV series), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Chains of Love was described as "televised prostitution"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Chains of Love (TV series). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Chains of Love (TV series)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Holy shit! Somebody actually found a public domain image of Tia Mowry. Not saying you should add unless you want to, but if you do I'll add it on the image review. PanagiotisZois (talk) 19:14, 19 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for the heads-up. That is really cool! I think that the article is fine without it as the infobox image also shows her so I think two images of Mowry would be a little overkill. Aoba47 (talk) 19:39, 19 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Pru (album) scheduled for TFA

edit

This is to let you know that the Pru (album) article has been scheduled as today's featured article for November 3, 2017. I know you requested it on the 7th, but the nomination received no other supports for that day, and there was a good date connection for running something on the Russian Revolution on that date - rather than not schedule Pru at all, I chose to run it a few days before the anniversary you requested. If you'd rather hold this for the 20th anniversary of the release in 2020, please let me know and I'll schedule something else on the 3rd. Please check the article needs no amendments. Aoba, I'm very sorry that I didn't respond to your post. I did see it, then I decided to respond later and of course forgot. It's unlikely that I'll have time to look at the FAC, because I have several other things stacking up that I've been intending to do. But I wish you all the best with it, and once again I apologize for not responding earlier. SarahSV (talk) 18:40, 28 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • No worries and I completely understand. Fortunately, the FAC has already received a lot of attention and is currently receiving a rather in-depth prose review so it is already close to being closed anyway. Thank you for your message, and good luck with your current projects! Aoba47 (talk) 18:44, 28 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • @Wehwalt: Thank you for selecting this for TFA. Just out of curiosity, how are these being selected? It just would be nice to be notified before the article is chosen for TFA rather than after everything has been completed. I am not complaining as I am happy to have this featured on the main page, but it would be nice for other users and future consideration. Aoba47 (talk) 20:19, 6 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I am scheduling one month in three. Generally, TFA/R requests are granted. Then, I've been trying to fill in with a range of articles. Yours was a TV article about a fictional character and so it seemed different from other articles. All articles that haven't run are under consideration, although I respect the wishes of those who have asked that their articles not be run. So the process was I saw it, went over it with checklinks and looking for uncited passages, checked to ensure there no talk page disputes going on, put it on my list and it survived the rearrangements and cuts.--Wehwalt (talk) 20:24, 6 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Neutrality and original research

edit

Please don't label stuff as a "breakthrough", as you did in this edit. This is your own personal analysis, and is forbidden by Wikipedia's policy against original research. Hi Aoba47. I've just returned from vacation. Just wanted to say thanks for joining in on the Jill Valentine peer review, and also I understand the frustration you expressed over it. Trying to reason with SlimVirgin is by far the most stressful thing I have tried to do in over 9 years of editing Wikipedia. She's absolutely impossible to work with, so I completely understand and respect your choice to step back from the peer review. I hope to work with you on a project in the future that hopefully doesn't involve any toxic editors. :) Freikorp (talk) 06:18, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • @Freikorp: Hello to you too Freikorp! I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing vacation. I have a lot of respect for you for sticking with the "Jill Valentine" article for so long as it is on a very popular character and would require more work and research as a result. I think that SlimVirgin is a very good editor (as evidenced by her work on here), but I just wish that she was more collaborative during the peer review process as she had the tendency to shoot down any ideas that went against her opinion without much in the terms of discussion. Once I saw that occurring, I knew it was best to just remove myself from the situation to avoid that stress. I am glad to see you are back, and congrats on getting the "DJ AM" article promoted to FAC! Aoba47 (talk) 16:09, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I'm sorry to see you're withdrawing the FAC. Please don't feel disheartened—I thought the article was in excellent shape and the fact that you've promoted 14 FAs is a remarkable feat! That's double what I have. Do you still want me to give it a source review? I was holding off as I wasn't sure it required one given the amount of comments above. I really don't understand what the criticism is all about here, if anything the prose is of an excellent standard. JAGUAR  20:12, 25 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • @Jaguar: Thank you for your kind words. I probably reacted too emotionally in my messages so I apologize for that. For some reason, the entire review was just starting to stress me out too much so I thought it would be best to take a step back for a while. I will most likely put the article up for FAC sometime down the line, but I just want to clear my head more before that happens if that makes any sense. I no longer need the source review, but feel free to let me know if you need any help with any of your current or future projects as I would be more than happy to help. I hope that you have a wonderful rest of your day! Aoba47 (talk) 20:40, 25 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi

edit

Hi Aoba. I'm very sorry to see you withdraw the article and to see you so discouraged. FAC can be discouraging, no doubt about it (and I've definitely been there). You have more FAs to your name than I do, and maybe lots of them went relatively smoothly for you without a lot of "negative" feedback. Can I tell you that both of my solo FAs so far had some big bumps and opposes, and sure I got discouraged and thought about quitting. But I find the best way forward is to just buckle up and keep trying. Realize that everyone's preferences are a little bit different, and that reaching FAC can be thought of as just sticking it out and keeping working with other reviewers towards tweaking things to reach that consensus. There's no "right" and "wrong" perfect wording, and as you said it's not personal, and if your approach to the article isn't exactly the same as a reviewer's, so what? It's all about reaching consensus. It's the FA community that settles on the final wording that gets promoted, and if you have to make some concessions away from how you originally envisioned the article, there's no shame in that, and you can still be mighty proud of all the hard work you put into the article. That's how I've tried to approach it, even when I've gotten discouraged. For Sévérine, after you had adjusted the Characterization section, I saw a few more sentences I was possibly going to comment on, but felt I was getting quite close to supporting. Anyways, I hope you'll be back soon! Moisejp (talk) 07:14, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for your kind words. I greatly appreciate your help with this FAC and my previous one as your reviews always help to improve the article. I do plan on putting this article back through the FAC process sometime in the future, but I honestly just need to take a break from Wikipedia for a little bit as I was just getting too stressed out (which I know sounds a little silly). Your advice is very helpful, and will definitely help me to avoid getting so stressed out about Wikipedia things in the future. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day! Aoba47 (talk) 16:26, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Heya

edit

Hey, Aoba. I don't know you very well, but I had a wonderful experience "working" with you on the Kate Winslet FAC. From what I took away from your review of the article, I found you to be an excellent writer with great taste, and an altogether lovely person to talk and interact with (which from my almost 7 years on this website, I can safely say is both exceptionally and heartbreakingly rare).

I'm a poster child of "Wiki breakdowns", having quit the website no less than 3 times in the past -- mostly due to botched FACs or when faced with gruelling edit wars. I know first hand how worthless your hard work seems in such cases, and how the lack of solidarity from fellow editors renders the situation even worse. So I completely sympathise with you and believe that a break will do you tremendous good.

Call me a cynic, but I've come to believe that there will be people who will never see the best in you, who will try hard to make your contributions to this website seem superfluous, and make you feel entirely replaceable. But take it from me, they are wrong. You are an exceptional asset to Wikipedia, and I say this with utmost certainty despite "knowing" you very little. I see many other editors have lent their support to you in better ways than I ever can (especially by the wonderful Moisejp right above), but do count me among those voices who greatly appreciate you and your work here. I wish to see you back pretty soon, and am hopeful for a collaboration in the future. (Maybe on The Reader -- which I'm sure is something we can spend hours discussing and arguing about).

Take care, and illegitimi non carborundum. Cheers, Krimuk2.0 (talk) 17:10, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you! That is very sweet of you; you helped me feel less silly about my "Wiki breakdown" lol. I enjoyed reviewing your Kate Winslet FAC a lot.
