Speedy deletion

You tagged Kabzaa (2022 film) as an WP:A3, even though it had an infobox. A3 specifically exempts any article with an infobox. If you're going to tag a page for speedy deletion, you must be familiar with the language of the criterion. I've deleted the article, but for other reasons.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:13, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Bbb23, you're completely right. As I added the tag, I witnessed my error few moments later but there were certain things messed up here in my real life and I had to fix them first ;). Thanks for the note. You've been an incredible mentor always. ─ The Aafī (talk) 17:30, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Early end of the backlog drive

A few days ago, new page patrollers got the backlog to zero. Due to the unprecedented success of the backlog drive, it will be ending early—at the end of 24 October, or in approximately two hours.

Barnstars will be awarded as soon as the coords can tally the results. Streak awards will be allocated based on the first three weeks of the drive, with the last three days being counted as part of week three.

Great work everyone! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:50, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

Ameer Hamza, Book Reference

Salam,

Thanks for your advice, a got a book on Muslim Freedom Fighters, volume II. Here is an image indicates mention of Ameer Hamza as a freedom fighter, INA soldier and donor. Hope this will suffice for approving Wiki article on him.

Wiki Article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:M._K._M._Ameer_Hamza Umairsy (talk) 06:05, 28 October 2022 (UTC)

Dear @Umairsy, I'm sorry but this is not sufficient to establish notability. ─ The Aafī (talk) 09:16, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
Can you elaborate please? In your earlier remarks, atleast one credible source or book's reference was required, which is provided. On top of that, two articles from credible media and govt. website talks about Ameer Hamza. IMO, this truly deserves to be published.
Sorry that I am bothering you, but since you declined the submission, hence trying to get your buy-in. I am not related to the subject in any manner, so it's genuine. Umairsy (talk) 19:20, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
@Umairsy, the subject fails WP:SNG because freedom activists aren't inherently notable and we do not have any such guideline. That said, it has everything to do with WP:GNG, which mentions, that a subject which has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject is presumed notable. I'm not able to find a single source where Ameer Hamza has been discussed significantly. Do we have anything beyond these few lines? Please don't feel discouraged, on Wikipedia we try to learn new things and I'd be happy to learn from you as well. Nonetheless, I'd be glad to support with this but you need to help in finding "significant coverage in multiple, reliable, independent, secondary resources". About Saeed Ahmad Akbarabadi

Is Saeed Ahmad Akbarabadi was principal of Culcutta Alia Madrasah? You write in this article In 1948, he became Principal of the Madrassa-e-Aliya, Calcutta with four no reference. But I do not find his name in this list bn:মাদ্রাসা-ই-আলিয়া, কলকাতার অধ্যক্ষের তালিকা (List of Principals of Madrasa-e-Alia, Calcutta). Are you read bengal language? Sympathy

Personally, I think that you were badly served by the first deletion discussion. My own view is that in many circumstances, the whole deletion process is far too quick to allow people to conduct adequate further research. If you've got one adequate source, which it looks as if you have, then the question is what to do with the others. With regard to the cleric's role in the coup, you seem to have several independent and reliable sources which comment on this, although if one was being pedantic, individually they are too brief to be (Wikipedia) notable. Taken together, however, my personal view is that they should be given more weight, especially as what they are referring to is clearly important. Perhaps, therefore, you could make an argument with respect to these based on WP:UCS or WP:IAR (see WP:WIARM), stating why you think your article improves Wikipedia. I wish you success!! (Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 05:56, 7 February 2023 (UTC))

(Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 13:24, 7 February 2023 (UTC))

Hi. Just been looking at how the discussion review is going, and it looks like the consensus of opinion is in your favour so far. I was just wondering, however, when you said the cleric had received considerable criticism for his comments on the establishment of the seminary, whether there were sources (which don't necessarily need to be online) you could quote on this. In view of the post I've just read in favour of taking no action, I think if would be helpful if you could mention these now, stating (if possible) how detailed the criticisms are.

(Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 20:31, 11 February 2023 (UTC))

@Edwin of Northumbria, Thanks for your sympathy and help. I'm not currently at the place where I should be i.e. I'm travelling and I have to leave tomorrow, travel on road for about six hours and then catch a train that would take another 13-15 hours. I'd definitely try to locate this criticism. The Al-Bayyinaat refers somewhere to another journal which I tried to locate but I wasn't able to find. The editor of which is mentioned to be this scholar. Let me see what I can find but I'm not sure that I can find much since the subject is in Pakistan, and not in India. ─ The Aafī (talk) 04:02, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello

Can you please redo the name change, [1], where is a source for "Wesh"? The border towns are Chaman and Spin Boldak. "Wesh" is the name of a market in Spin Boldak.--HabibKhosti (talk) 07:29, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi @HabibKhosti, I reverted your move per a request at the RMT which I found reasonable. I'd suggest you to start a fresh RM if you want to get the page moved. If you are right, I'm sure you will surely get support from others. ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 07:33, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Why would you change it without checking the references in the article?--HabibKhosti (talk) 07:37, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi @HabibKhosti: The article was created as Chaman border crossing on 5 February 2010, and moved to Wesh–Chaman border crossing on 22 November 2012. The article has remained stable with the same title for the last decade before you performed an undiscussed move on 11 February 2023. Although, I agree that you might be right, but since this was an "undiscussed move" and there had been no "page-move" wars, I performed the move request and moved the page to its previous stable title. The request was made per WP:RMUM which states, If you disagree with such a move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move. That said, I suggest you to start a fresh "Requested Move" (WP:RM) on the article's talk page because I won't be reverting a move that's based on a policy. Generally, instead of being bold, RM's should be initiated about names of such articles. I hope you understand my points and reasoning behind accepting the request. Best, ─ The Aafī (talk) 07:50, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
I do now. My name correction is neutral and backed by many sources. Nobody paid any attention to this in the past because it's something that doesn't interest them. I decided to put these border towns of Afghanistan in order and this one person who is constantly changing networks and IP addresses decided to mess up my work. HabibKhosti (talk) 13:49, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
@HabibKhosti, I'm very glad that you are passionate towards improving the encyclopedia. But, it is always better to go through established policies and practices. I'm sure the move-request would be moved to talk page of the article where it will be endorsed and given attention by the community. Best, ─ The Aafī (talk) 13:53, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Eastern Counties 1

Hello, if anything comes up in reports or user complaints, it turns out that we both did the page swap involving Eastern Counties 1 as requested at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. It looks like I was about 30 seconds behind you and may have accidentally reversed some of what you did. I think I have it all straightened out, except maybe the aftermath at Talk:Counties 1 Eastern Counties. @Doomsdayer520: I am not able to understand this? If the swaps were done in accordance, did you use cut&paste in this case? I might have done more damage then because I swapped the talk pages again. If you think all is all, just ignore everything and leave it as it is. ─ The Aafī (talk) 15:02, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
because this doesn't have the RM log lol. ─ The Aafī (talk) 15:03, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Yesterday, the move request was sitting at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests so I simply started working on it. I did the round-robin process and some of the automated steps went haywire, and apparently it was because you were working on it at the same time. In fact, you removed the request as "done" while I was in the middle of the process. You did not do it "quite earlier" than me, because your move was at 14:38 yesterday and mine was at 14:39. My main point yesterday was that the structure at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests does not prevent two volunteers from acting at the same time, so we overlapped each other and it was all just an accident. That's the only reason I sent you the original message. I'm not sure if your final step of swapping the Talk pages was required, but it looks to me like everything is cleared up. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:32, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

Requesting assist on my new page

hello, I found you from the AFC showcase section. Noticed you reviewed pages similar to one I have a draft of. It's been sitting there for weeks now. I have another draft, but I've requested another user to review it (they previously reviewed my page).

Would you be willing to take a look at this page and review it? Would be much appreciated. Thanks. X (talk) 12:27, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Xkalponik, unfortunately, I do not review AfC drafts on request. I scroll through the queue (timely) and check with drafts that I can work with or those that interest me, or wherever the notability is established. ─ The Aafī (talk) 12:32, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
@TheAafi aah that's okay. Thanks for your reply. [Hopefully my page falls through the queue at the time you're scrolling pending pages list. XD]
Since you do not review pages upon request, I'm undoing the request, but nonetheless the page has fallen under your radar anyway, now. And I'm taking motivation from your last line: "drafts that I can work with or those that interest me, or wherever the notability is established.", is my draft a page you can work with? Or do you think the notability is established here? Or does the page interest you?
Being optimistic, I hope you'd be considerate and kind enough to give me an answer on that. Thanks again. Have a great rest of your day/night. X (talk) 12:45, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
@Xkalponik: I can make some suggestions here. Please remove the citations from lede section and incorporate those somewhere in the article body. Most of the stuff about him appears like he has been discussed for just one thing. If a similar issue is covered by several sources, we count it as one, and you need to demonstrate that the subject has been significantly discussed in multiple, reliable and independent sources. I would not personally consider biased sources such as Atheist Alliance International and others related, as something, that help the subject establish notability but this, this (partially), this look a bit helpful, and could make a borderline case for notability in my opinion. This from Dhaka Courier adds more to it. ─ The Aafī (talk) 13:01, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
@TheAafi, thanks for the evaluation. His lawsuits also received coverage. Such as from Belfast Telegraph or Irish News or Guardian Weekly. But overall your observation is much appreciated. Hopefully it'd be reviewed.

I have changed to edit Jamia Millia Islamia pages for better view and easily understandable. I don't understand how you messed up all pages. They told me to suggest that able to read easily. Please restore back what you have done after i changed. I'm very disappointed at your behaviour. Thanks Wiki1957BOY Wiki1957BOY (talk) 07:31, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

@Wiki1957BOY, the article is already tagged for copyediting. Wikipedia is not a university's manual, and has its own standards about how articles should be. Wikipedia is neither a directory nor a prospectus. Articles should only contain well referenced adequate information, and that too in a neutral point of view. Please also tell who has told you, do you have any conflict of interest? Your unexplained removal of referenced content is problematic. You need to explain why you remove any cited information and how does it help Wikipedia. ─ The Aafī (talk) 07:37, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from CrowEater (19:07, 6 March 2023)

Hello! I'm copyediting an article, and there's a claim made in the initial summary that isn't backed up anywhere else in the article, nor is it cited. Should I slap [citation needed] on the claim? --CrowEater (talk) 19:07, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

@CrowEater, which article? ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 19:12, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
@AafiOnMobile Sweet and Lowdown. The claim is that the film is "Loosely based on Federico Fellini's film La Strada." CrowEater (talk) 19:20, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
@CrowEater, okay, the addition of a cn tag seems justified. Did you try to search on Google for a possible reference? This is not a subject of my expertise but I do know that plots in movie articles aren't referenced but everything else should be - and this very fact needs a reference. If there isn't any, a citation needed tag is legitimate. ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 19:23, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks! CrowEater (talk) 19:25, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

Deletion Nomination of ‘Akhilesh Sheshmani Dubey’

Hello, I noticed that the article got a second nomination for deletion. Can you let me know the reasons for the same? I am aware of the fact that the article lacks primary sources and I would like more time to research and work on the article in those aspects. Would you recommend moving it back to userspace for the same? Or is it okay to leave it in the mainspace? Yumeko1 (talk) 12:03, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Yumeko1, primary sources do not help establish notability on Wikipedia. The first thing we check is whether an article satisfies the general notability guideline or not, and the crux of it is that, a topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, and this seems missing in case of Dubey. What we do then is we refer to the the subjective criteria of notability and check whether a subject is notable within their own field or not. Dubey once again does not satisfy the subjective criteria required for notability, in this case, WP:NBIO. Most of the references that you might argue for reliability and independence, are trivial mentions of the sort, and do not serve the purpose. My advise to you would be to remove links of all of the opinion pieces that the subject has written himself. They do not help with notability. Best, ─ The Aafī (talk) 12:16, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your advice. Can you help me understand what 'significant coverage' is? As much as I do get an idea of what it is I keep getting confused. Moreover, if you suggest removing the opinion articles I will go ahead and do that.
Would you recommend moving the article to userspace while I'm working on finding better material to reference it though?

Hi again!

Again we seem to need your help at DYK. File:Licurici 1948-05-01.jpg is going to get featured on MP soon. Could you please take a look and, if the pic is OK, give the license review a green tick? Thank you so much! BorgQueen (talk) 12:38, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @BorgQueen: If we go with the anonymousness of the one who made it, the file is public domain, and thus no problem with it being used. However, I see you have duplicated the file, and it should have been uploaded as a new version of c:File:Licurici 1948-05-01.png. fwiw, this is a magazine cover, and shouldn't its copyright stay with the publisher that published this magazine? ─ The Aafī (talk) 12:58, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
I've tried to, but since mine is .jpg and Dahn had uploaded it as a .png file for whatever reason, it did not allow me to overwrite it.
@Dahn could you comment on the last question? BorgQueen (talk) 13:04, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
I just tried again and I got: File extension ".png" does not match the detected MIME type of the file (image/jpeg). Anyway, is that a problem that we have multiple versions of the same source image? BorgQueen (talk) 13:27, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
@BorgQueen, no worries, that's not going to problem us anyway. ─ The Aafī (talk) 13:29, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
BorgQueen For future reference: you can save a .jpg as a .png in any image editor, including Paint, by changing the extension. You can then upload the saved .png to the desired location. Dahn (talk) 16:04, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
TheAafi The publisher would be a defunct corporate entity, namely the Union of Communist Youth, on which see the same tag used: "The work meets one of the following criteria: [...] It is another kind of work, the author is a legal entity („persoană juridică” - not a person) and 50 years have passed since the date of its publication" Dahn (talk) 16:11, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
@BorgQueen and @Dahn: Thanks. I have passed the license-review. ─ The Aafī (talk) 16:30, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Scammer Payback

I would love this guy to have an article. In fact, I started a draft for him a few months back. Didn't publish as I found he simply didn't have enough references that meet WP:ANYBIO. I see you approved out of AfC so wanted to get your thoughts prior to AfD. Maybe I am missing something. CNMall41 (talk) 05:26, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @CNMall41, I did not accept this from AfC but only moved it per a request at WP:RMT from an AfC volunteer. This is recorded in the article history. I haven't been through the article and its references and this cannot opine on the notability but if you think it does not meet, you are free to take it to AfD and get some more opinions from the community. Best, ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 05:46, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
You are correct. My apologizes for not looking closer. I only read "moved page" and saw the "from articles for creation" so made the assumption. Let me discuss with the requesting editor first as I hate to waste time at AfD if there is something I am missing about this. Cheers. --CNMall41 (talk) 06:09, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Enquiry for notability guidelines for Doctors

Hello,

Hope you are doing well. I am writing to you as I would like to know if there are any specific guidelines that Wikipedia has for the notability of doctors? I did look up existing specific guidelines pages and though I did find one it is longer relevant or consensus. Is it acceptable if an individual qualifies any one of the general notability guidelines (WP:GNG) for the article to be considered wikipedia-worthy or for them to be considered notable? What other guidelines can one check out before writing about an individual in the field of medicine? Hope you can help me out with this.

Okay, Im currently drafting an article. On your talk page it says that you review drafts so I was woundering what types of things you look for in a draft to approve it and give it a high rating?
Draft:Ground Control to Sara Lance OLI 03:31, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
@OLI: Rating doesn't matter when it comes to approve a draft into mainspace. The only thing that matters is notability. I tend to look if the subject meets the general notability guideline or not. If it does not, I look for its subjective notability. Either of the cases, a yes means approval, and a no means that the draft needs improvements. A subject not meeting subjective guideline may meet the general guideline and it is not necessary to pass the both. ─ The Aafī (talk) 11:25, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
