Yoodoo.biz
Hi there. I have edited the article User:Arigg/Yoodoo.biz. It is basically a website with free business advice for anyone who wants to start their own business. A useful resource now the government has cut Business Link services. Could you please take a look at it and tell me if it's suitable. Many Thanks. Arigg (talk) 13:44, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Google News
I just happened to follow your recent discussion started at WP:NCHD, and regarding Google News results, note that a generic search there is restricted to news items from the past 30 days (though nothing on the page tells you this). Right below the search field you'll see a link to "Advanced search"; click that, and on the next page click "archive search," which will show you all results since the Triassic. Many a user trying to source an article with news stories has been baffled by their lack of results because of this.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 17:45, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi. I'm putting together on article at Bull/proposed article to supplant the existing disambig page, which is a magnet for links intended to point at an article on the male of cattle. Since you did quite a bit of work on Cattle, I thought you might be able to help quickly punch this up to full-blown article status. Any assistance would be appreciated. Cheers! bd2412 T 01:11, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
re venkataraman Krishnamurthy
hi, please guide me on how to link Venkataraman Krishnamurthy to an existing article about the same person (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V._Krishnamurthy). as it refers to same person. all the awards bestowed on this person is under the name Venkataraman Krishnamurthy and the article in wiki is Under the name V. Krishnamurthy. kindly guide me as i am very new to this warm regards c b shetty Chetanbshetty (talk) 14:48, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- I moved the V. Krishnamurthy article to Venkataraman Krishnamurthy for you. if someone clicks on V. Krishnamurthy it will automatically redirect them to Venkataraman Krishnamurthy, and if you look at the code on V. Krishnamurthy it will look like:
#REDIRECT [[Venkataraman Krishnamurthy]]
- ...and thats how you allow people to search for variations on a persons name. Syrthiss (talk) 14:53, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Not really sure how to contact you so.. You deleted my Friendly Fire Gaming page. I am the owner of the site and I am confused as to why it was deleted. I am not trying to advertise, just do a history of the site. Is this not allowed? How do the other sites get their own Wikipedia pages?
Thanks, Tomas —Preceding unsigned comment added by TomasLekis (talk • contribs) 16:57, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Specifically it was deleted as advertising, and being a non-notable website. In general, WP:WEB is our guideline for notable websites. It became advertising when I noticed that your username matched the owner of the site.
- Other sites get their own wikipedia pages firstly by being notable. A notable company will most likely have people not associated with it who have heard of it and will create an article. I hope this helps. Syrthiss (talk) 17:04, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Ah, alright. Sorry about that. Not really sure how this whole Wikipedia thing works. Thanks for the clarification! —Preceding unsigned comment added by TomasLekis (talk • contribs) 17:06, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Not a prob. We see it a lot, no harm done. :) Syrthiss (talk) 17:08, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
So in theory, another member of the site could create a page or..? —Preceding unsigned comment added by TomasLekis (talk • contribs) 17:23, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Essentially, if your site meets our notability requirements with reliable sources to back that claim up then anybody could create it. In general, we don't recommend that people write about things they are associated with. If you or another member of the site recreates the article, please make sure it is neutral in tone and pretty clearly establishes a claim to notability right off the bat. Thanks! Syrthiss (talk) 17:27, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
What are the notability requirements? We have a pretty long history and I feel like a Wikipedia page is due. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TomasLekis (talk • contribs) 00:14, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

...so I already know for a fact that there wasn't any football in 1233. But I had to look it up to see whether there was any football in 1233. It seemed plausible. The rules and equipment are simple, after all. And I already knew there was golf at that time. But, no, no football of any kind in 1233. Too bad. I had a lovely picture in my head, of medieval lads and lasses on a green yard somewhere, kicking a pig's bladder... -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 18:30, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- lol. Actually I had read it as '2133', so I assume we would have holographic footballs and such. Syrthiss (talk) 18:41, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- I have invented a new sport with which I will replace all existing team sports. It is called "ball." The rules are: 1. The home team will provide a playing field of its own choosing, with the shape, size, and form up to them. They may construct any non-lethal obstacles on the field that they wish. The middle of the field will be marked with a one-foot red circle. Two ends, equally distant from the middle, will be marked with one-foot by three-foot yellow rectangles. 2. The visiting team will provide a ball of its choosing, in any size and style. 3. Each team will consist of between 5 and 20 players. Players may bring non-lethal equipment of their own choosing into the playing field. 4. The game is played in four 15- minute quarters. There are no time-outs. 5. The goal of the game is to get the ball into the goal, using any strategy that seems useful. A goal is worth one point. Once a goal has been scored, the ball is re-positioned at the middle of the field. 6. Players are not allowed to kill one another, or to cause any injury that will leave damage lasting longer than one month. 7. There are no more rules. Play ball! -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 18:49, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

- Yeah, sorry was away from the computer for several days. I'm not sure what to make of the CU comments - seems to me that if behaviourally it looks like the same user, and we have a geographic but not IP match, that it would be likely. However, since he didn't say that I'd have a hard time acting on it without a clarification. Syrthiss (talk) 12:44, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I saw in the protection log that you protected the page. I was correcting typos on various pages and came across one on this page, but wasn't able to edit it due to the [edit=sysop] (indefinite) protection. I am not too sure what the edit waring which led to the protection was about but could you please either unprotect the page or correct this typo for me: (second paragraph of the intro) after an an angel directed him. An is repeated twice. Thank you, Yottie (talk) 23:11, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. I unprotected the page (actually I had hoped that the edit war would come to an agreement and it would be unprotected before now. I also made your change to the article after I lifted the protection. In case you didn't know, you can also request edits to protected pages by placing

(cut and pasted as it appears here, not in the editing window) on the talk page with your request below it. :) Syrthiss (talk) 11:17, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you :) Next time I'll consider adding the template to the Article Talk Page, but I think it's often better to go to the concerned admin directly. Anyway, happy editing. Regards, Yottie (talk) 11:37, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I see that you gave a pair of contributions to the new article of Franco Lucchini. I also see here that you uploaded pictures in wikipedia, so I would ask You if You can upload an image of Lucchini, I see that in wikipedia there are old pictures of him, but I do not know how to upload photoes. I'm usually pretty hesitant to upload pictures unless I know I have permission from the photographer or have taken them myself, because I want to make sure I am meeting the licensing requirements. Thanks for your work on his article. Syrthiss (talk) 18:23, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Misplaced Move
Hi there, just a quick note, when moving AFC submissions to the AFC 'area' of wikipedia, can you move it to the correct location please? You moved Barbara Annis to Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Barbara Annis when it should have been moved to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Barbara Annis.
I'm only mentioning it because it still classes it as misplaced otherwise. Thanks - Happysailor (Talk) 21:42, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- Done - Never mind, I figured out that you just used a link on the AFC misplaced template - so i've fixed the template now. :) - Happysailor (Talk) 09:12, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yepyep, I thought it was strange when I moved it but figured something had changed in how we did AFC. Thanks for taking care of it, I deleted the redirect page. Syrthiss (talk) 11:48, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Re: Need your help
Many thanks for that. My connection was acting up like nobody's business - pages taking forever to load, etc. Seems OK now. Anyway, the editor in question (and, I think, many of the editors at the AfD) is quite new - they have rollback, and I think they're in general a good editor (I think they're all good faith editors, despite the fighting...) but still seems to be finding their way round policy: I warned them yesterday about inappropriate use of rollback. In their defence, I think they're probably more clued-up than some of the other editors...
Anyway, thanks again (I think this might be the second time today, at least, that you've done something I either needed done or was about to do!) TFOWR 19:43, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Need administrative help
Hello, I am one of the contributors to Kourosh Zolani’s page deletion discussion. We realized today that a user had removed huge part of our contribution to the discussion which thankfully you reverted it. However, I checked the history of the discussion and this user had removed another big part of our contributions to the discussion before too. Here is the link. Would you please bring those comments back to the discussion as well? Thank you, Sozlati (talk) 21:26, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- I assume this was taken care of according to the further discussion on TFOWR's page. If it wasn't, let me know and I'll look into it. Thanks! Syrthiss (talk) 14:06, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
FCW article
Just 2 reasons: 1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Professional_wrestling/Archive_78#Florida_Championship_Wrestling A long discussion where it was decided that the roster in the article would be the same as the one on the Roster page of FCW website. 2) Mikeymike2001 thinks that he is the owner of the FCW article. Look at the history tab. He reverts all edits made by other users. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.15.58.65 (talk) 17:47, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- So which version is sourced, yours or his? My intention was to stop the edit warring without comments from both sides, and revert to what looked like the previous stable version. Syrthiss (talk) 17:57, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Mine, Syrthiss. And sorry for the edit warring. I know that I was wrong. But please look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mikeymike2001#Reverts and this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive625#Mikeymike2001_and_reverts —Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.15.58.65 (talk) 18:02, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Eesh. I can't independently verify this right at the moment, I'd have to look tonight when I can look at the website. Do you mind if I don't get a chance to edit again until tomorrow? Syrthiss (talk) 18:12, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
It is okay, Syrthiss. Thank you and sorry again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.15.58.65 (talk) 18:19, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- My apologies, I have lifted the protected and blocked Mikeymike2001 for edit warring. Don't let it get that bad, please feel free to approach me or another administrator if it looks like an edit war is brewing. I'd personally recommend using edit summaries to help people know what you're doing, but it isn't required. A simple 'rv, material is unsourced. this edit restores consistency with source' does a lot to help people coming into the middle of the situation know whats happening. Thanks! Syrthiss (talk) 00:11, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Syrthiss, can I ask you a favor? Can you lift the protection of Orlando Colón article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orlando_Col%C3%B3n)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.15.15.169 (talk) 18:13, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- I would feel better if you asked the protecting admin for that article, or made an unprotection request at WP:RFPP. I'm don't feel familiar enough with most of these wrestling articles to make judgement on protection status. Syrthiss (talk) 18:26, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I understand. Thanks a lot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.15.15.169 (talk) 18:46, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

- Hey, thanks for everything! Let me try to explain what happened as I discern it. I got this aggressive message about a page created years ago, which I later remembered that I had not created as an article, but only as a redirect as I explained already. Another editor made an article out of it but neglected to add links or references.
- At first I didn't realize all this but the article seemed pretty good and I guess I got a little proprietary and felt I should try to save it. I was going to AfD it, but that's not allowed under these circumstances as you also know. I kept asking for the article to be unblanked so that I could add the references which I was pretty sure I would be able to locate and I did -- easy Google search. But I was at the library at that time and you apparently can't copy and paste URLs on library computers. So I could not fix the article in time and it got speedy deleted. Anyway I just wanted to catch you up to speed. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 20:31, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yepyep, understood. I think the version that you have in your userspace is well sourced enough that it could be moved back out to mainspace, but I'll let you make that call. Syrthiss (talk) 11:42, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

The word stalker is offensive, you should know. --ZirconiumTwice (talk) 01:11, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- I called myself a talkpage stalker, not you. Is English not your first language? Thats a really odd mistake to make for a native speaker. Syrthiss (talk) 11:28, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- In your opinion as a sysop, would you say ZirconiumTwice is verging on disruptive editing? His recent contributions seem to suggest so. Strange Passerby (talk) 12:01, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'm waiting a bit to see where ZT is going with this, but yes I would call several of their activities over their editing career disruptive. I am not sure what the source of it is, perhaps it really is just a cultural / language issue. Syrthiss (talk) 12:04, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Personally, I'm not sure how true that is. He claims to be a pretty good speaker of English, and most Hong Kongers do speak fairly good English to some extent. WP:ANI-able soon if he continues I'm guessing; I suppose you wouldn't make any move given your past interaction with him. Strange Passerby (talk) 12:11, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I couldn't act on anything at this point, I'd think. I think that I wouldn't be considered 'involved' (since I've only interacted in an administrative capacity, I believe... deleting a template or two and leaving him a talkpage message or two), but really disruptive stuff would be clear to other administrators so it would be better for me not to. I'm also not sure ANI would be the proper venue, I'm thinking WQA. Syrthiss (talk) 12:17, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, it's been a long while since I've been on WP (I used to edit under a different name). Things have obviously changed. I'm off to find out what WQA is now... Strange Passerby (talk) 12:22, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, so I never did use that step (even though it was available) the last time I was an editor. I agree, that'd be a good starting point. Strange Passerby (talk) 12:25, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Looks like he's been to ANI over a different affair in which he hasn't won the argument and is trying to push it further. I know the situations are unrelated, but the general behaviour I think is now worth discussing there. Just a heads-up. Strange Passerby (talk) 02:04, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I just wanted to know why you just deleted my wiki about Lauramani Productions, while I had my sources and explained that they are two teenage girls (so no animals or objects).
Greetings, Angry person!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by MadMaxYUP (talk • contribs) 11:57, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- You had no sources that I saw, and didn't adequately explain why they were notable, and said on the talkpage 'you were just trying to help them out'. That pretty clearly indicates that you were making the article solely to promote some non-notable folks. Also earned yourself a npa warning for the above. Cheers! Syrthiss (talk) 12:00, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh I'm sorry I thought that artist with a Last FM page were notable people. I guess I was wrong. You might as well delete all the other starting bands. And I clearly said that it was a work in progress. Do you get a kick out of it to delete new Wiki's by supposedly following the rules? —Preceding unsigned comment added by MadMaxYUP (talk • contribs) 12:05, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, we do delete a lot of other starting bands, thanks for asking. The encyclopedia is for notable people, and by definition usually start up bands are not notable (or they wouldn't be start ups). Feel free to submit other sources that establish their band as notable and we can see about restoring the article. Syrthiss (talk) 12:07, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

- I'm sorry, but youtube is not considered enough proof of notability either because it is self-generated content. What we would need would be something like producing a record from a major industry or indie label, proof of being in rotation on a major radio station, or charting in significant fashion (something like the UK or US charts). Syrthiss (talk) 12:20, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Syrthiss, I know you've dealt with this user previously, just wanted your opinion on his recent moves of his user and talk pages (seems rather disruptive - he's not exactly archiving them), and more particularly, this on his "user page":

Hey, thanks for blocking this article but the danger has prob passed. Keller was on Aus TV last night and made specific mention of her WP article and some weird "facts" it contained. The bit about her reporting on Charlie and Di's wedding should also be removed. It is not mentioned in the in-line cite (nor elsewhere) and could not have occurred since the wedding was some 2 years prior to her starting in TV. The article 1to1 design s.r.o. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Nominated for deletion as original research and lack of notability; in addition, it does not appear to be possible to verify the accuracy of the sources, as the article contains only references that are contained in manuscripts or of other Wikipedia articles.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Bearian (talk) 20:04, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Dear Syrthiss, You posted a message subsequent to my deletion of a sentence in an article. I deleted this particular sentence, which refers, by name, to a relative of mine (without his permission) because it contains an inaccuracy. I would appreciate if you could ensure that the sentence in question and the link which inspired it are deleted. Thanking you in anticipation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Katherine Woods (talk • contribs) 15:12, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- Let me take a look. Syrthiss (talk) 15:23, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- Ms. Woods, from my cursory reading it appears that the material in the article is supported by the sources cited, and those sources appear to be standard news organizations (ie not unreliable blog posts or such). As such, I cannot resolve this matter myself. If there is some overriding reason why this material should be removed that needs to be kept confidential, I ask that you follow the instructions at this link to email our volunteers who may be able to help you with that. Please do not remove the material again. Regards, Syrthiss (talk) 15:35, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the pretty brutal deletion of my Fishawack page. I was still editing the page and took out the offending content and it got deleted anyway.
How can I add a page about my company without you deleting it without warning? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jerome762 (talk • contribs) 15:25, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, you were warned that it would be deleted. Not only did the copyright violation bot warn you, but another user did as well (for a different reason). Technically I deleted it for a third reason (no evidence of notability), but the copyright violation text would continue to be a problem.
- My advice? Create it using the article wizard or in your userspace at User:Jerome762/Fishawack. Write it in entirely new text, avoid advertising speak, and establish why it is notable using reliable sources external to your company. If you have to use the text from your website, you can follow the instructions at WP:IOWN to donate the text to Wikipedia. I hope this helps. Syrthiss (talk) 15:34, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

My recent revert
Hi Syrthiss, I've reverted as vandalism because the user was taking the prod notices without any valid explanation, despite of being told several times. His summary which says reference are provided was already there when I put the Prod notice for the first time. Moreover I'm pretty convinced he is using several IPs to do the same. Anyway thanks for letting me know. I'll put the notice back. If it is removed again by him or any of his IPs, I'll take it to afd. This kind of articles (self and family) are pretty common in biography articles from India. Mathew Joy (talk) 18:12, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

AAAARGH (the cry of a deleted page)
I was just in the process of constructing the page for The Low Miffs when you went away and deleted it. Can you not give me 24 hours or something to stick it together? If it's totally disappeared now, that's all my work wasted. I'm not very good at this, so it takes me bloody ages to get this stuff together. I'll get citations and all the rest of that guff, I just need more than ten minutes in which to do it. Seriously, it went up like five minutes ago, and I was in the process of making revisions on my lunch hour. Can you pop it back and give me some kind of leave to get it fixed, please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Inkwilson (talk • contribs) 12:15, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

RE: Sunny (Korean singer)
Is it possible to unprotect the page now? User:EunSoo has been banned for doing some crazy socking. Regardless of whether it should be under "singer" or "entertainer", there's still no need for "Korean" as there's no other singer/entertainer on Wikipedia named Sunny (and using it as a mononym). Thanks in advance. SKS (talk) 06:37, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
- I do believe you should file a Requested moves for that move. After all Sunny is Korean and is most commonly a singer. It only makes sense that she is a "Korean singer". 200.198.119.210 (talk) 05:19, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
- Our socking friend is right: maybe start a RM discussion. I'd be open to moving it wherever, but (1) I'd like to have a good consensus and (2) I want it still move protected once it moves since its obvious that EunSoo is still around and socking. Syrthiss (talk) 11:23, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Production Automotive Systems
Hi, I started an article about PAS and it was deleted.
Why was this please? It's an interesting company with a lot of history relating to rare sports cars.
UKTyphoon (talk) 18:23, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- Because our articles are on notable subjects (producing rare sports care would likely be a good mark of notability) where their notability can be established by multiple reliable sources. The one link that you had didn't tell me very much, and your comment on the talk page was an admission that you were not likely going to be able to provide any more sources (and I couldn't easily find any on my own). On top of that, you were repeatedly removing the speedy deletion tag despite multiple warnings not to. Syrthiss (talk) 18:27, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
I have the sources but they are not google related. www.syty.net is the forum where a lot of the information is to be found and I need the people on there to provide some of the links/sources, some of which are in newspaper articles. I was under the impression that they could edit the wikipedia info with corrections/additions etc.
As for the removal of the warnings, I apologise - the instructions were confusing.
How should I proceed? Thes cars are rare, the company is notable and this is my first article. Sorry for the inconvenience. —Preceding unsigned comment added by UKTyphoon (talk • contribs) 19:00, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Belen Echandia
Hi Syrthiss, I am looking for advice. The below has been posted on a page nominating the Belen Echandia page for deletion (same person has repeatedly attempted to get it deleted in the past week. You asked him of his interest, I also tried to discuss, s/he didn't reply). A couple of days ago it was voted Keep. The allegations s/he makes are untrue and not backed up with reliable references. I have wondered from the beginning whether this user has a conflict of interest or other reason for wishing to have the Belen Echandia page taken down (I have no evidence of this, other than conduct). I don't want anything I say to be considered a legal threat or unfair comment. I have done my best to be civil. I ask this as the owner of the company, not the person originally responsible for posting the page - since the untrue statements relate to our company. What do you advise?
"I believe that this page is commercial in nature and should be deleted unless modified and displays alternate opinions. Belen Echandia does not uniquely offer a bespoke service, many handbag designers offer this same service. In addition, I found many exargerations in the page including the notion that Vogue's servers were down because Belen Echandia. In addition, based on the feedback read in the previous note, the writer has an obvious connection to the owner. I am a member of the Purse Forum and Belen Echandia is notorious in their attempts to control content about their product. There were many instances where the owners of the Purse Forum were considering closing the thread dedicated to the product because of the written harrassment from devotes. A quick search will not only display problems with quality and customer service but some members have even stated that if they didn't write postive reviews about the company, they would be prohibited from purchasing.
I agree that this article is advertising not encyclopedic information. The original poster [[User:Parafianowicz|Parafianowicz] of this article was linked to the article subject as proved most compellingly by his/her own statement on the picture submission page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Belen_Echandia_Logo.jpg . The text is very highly biased and possibly can't be correct in any case as quoting the real (ex-)customers of this company counts as original research. Most citations are references to interviews given by the company owner in possible violation of WP:SELFPUB. All discussions on this article are dogged by Findingtruths who claims to be the owner of this company. He/She has resorted to aggressive comments, sucking up to administrators, and legal threats to suppress any discussion or improvement of this article. This company is known by ex-customers as using high pressure sales and promising discounts in return for favors. I believe this company is getting customers to update this article with the information it wishes to see here in order to use Wikipedia as free advertising. I have started a thread at WP:AN/I about this article which you may want to comment on. Davewild (talk) 10:07, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, have been out of the office for a bit so I am only now seeing this. I see that the topic at ANI has been archived, so I assume there was nothing more that I could have said there...but I may stop by the AFD and make a comment. Syrthiss (talk) 13:23, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
No problem and thanks. Do you think that the page is going to be deleted again? I don't know how Wikipedia works, how does an AFD get closed? User:findingtruths (talk) 21.31, 13 November 2010 (UTC)" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.251.100.97 (talk)
- After 7 days, usually an administrator (tho it can be technically any user, if the decision is uncontroversial) will look over the arguments and make a decision. In my opinion, unless something drastic happened, the article meets the basic guidelines and will not be deleted. As I said at the discussion, if I had my way it would be closed already as vexatious but I haven't closed AFDs for a very very long time so I'll defer to someone else closing it. Jediism
There are more than JUST the church of jediism, that have loyal followers, that believe in the philosophy and spirituality of the Force. Jediism ISN'T just that church. There are many, who are becoming legal religions in many areas. - I don't disagree, but considering that we'd really not like to advertise any groups...having a link to a single organization as a representative sample, especially when that organization is one mentioned in the references (I believe) is supported by WP:EL. You don't have to try and convince me, here, that your external link is supported by policy. You need to do that at Talk:Jediism and get a consensus that it is valid to add it. Hope this helps. Edit War
Syrthiss, if you look at the SSM article, you will see that I am hard at work addressing the concerns raised by the editor who has repeatedly zapped everything (not one edit--every single edit) that I have done on this article today. I have reverted absolutely nothing, but have merely restored the edits that were reverted improperly. I will be more than happy to address concerns on the talk page and work toward consensus, but I see no willingness on the part of the other editor. I visited the other editor's page to try to work this out, but the behavior continued. May I suggest that you remind the other editor that he/she, too, could be blocked? (I did not start this edit war). I noticed that your note on that user's page was a whole lot milder than the one I got from you. Thanks.184.74.22.161 (talk) 18:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello Syrthiss. Thank you. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 03:40, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, if you look at the history I did not nominate it for speedy deletion. I replaced the speedy tag that had been removed by the author, and started giving advice to the author on the talk page. I was on the fence about their assertion of notability, so I declined to take administrative action regarding the article and said as much in the edit summary. Contested page deletion
Would it be possible to review the validity of Brandon Scott? I have been his Rover Advisor for only a few months now and he has shown great leadership traits. From this I deducted that a formal record of his achievements could be established. It had been noted that he attempted to establish a page earlier but failed to provide the required information. Can I submit through our Council office to you, information which may support his history? CreativeMindSet (talk) 16:32, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
- I believe you are mistaken about our deletion process. The article, in the version that existed back in June that Brandon created himself, was determined to be not notable enough for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The version you submitted looked identical to the version that was deleted, and therefore was deleted as shedding no additional light on Brandon's notability. If you create a new article, you can try to fix the shortcomings of the previous one and assert Brandon's notability. Please review our general notability guidelines, though. I have no stake in whether the article is kept or not, other than to uphold the decision of the previous discussion, so sending me documentation wouldn't change this action. Hope this is helpful to you. Syrthiss (talk) 16:41, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

- I would say that removal of that text is exempt from 3rr. Talkpages are for the improvement of articles, and while noting a COI might be considered improvement of the article there are much better places to do such. Continuing to post it there is pretty clearly soapboxing, in my opinion, and reverting edits of a blocked or banned user. Also, ultimately Dromeaz (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) was blocked as a sock of TheLongestRoadToIndiaGate (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) so thats probably the original blocked account to point others to. From my peripheral view of the stuff as viewed through the mirror of MRG's talk page, Mr Garside or his supporters have been advised on the proper venues for handling the situation...and yet still use the improper venues. Syrthiss (talk) 15:51, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks.... User talk:MLauba told me just use WP:BRI when I see stuff from him... but like I said I have to guess to be sure it's him...he has more IPs than I have shoes. LOL CanadianLinuxUser (talk) 15:55, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- Also, in my opinion it is pretty clear that anytime someone mentions Garside and you it will be him and should be treated accordingly. Reading up a bit on Dromeaz' page, I'm willing to go so far as to provide myself as someone who can be asked to look at edits if you suspect an IP and give you my take. Syrthiss (talk) 15:59, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- I appreciate your being willing to mediate in this area, since I can't and since User:MLauba is often away. I try to give respectful attention to Dromeaz's (easier than LongestRoadToIndiaGate :D) concerns, but I have not been successful in getting him to avoid making accusations about other contributors, and I suspect that his behavior has a definite quelling effect to contributors to the article, no matter how well intentioned they may be. (I believe User:MLauba has been giving short blocks; if he contained himself to my talk page or the Garside talk page and didn't stretch into personal attacks, I would not even do that, frankly. But if he is harassing CanadianLinuxUser or any other editor without solid evidence, that's a different matter.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:18, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
I agree: if Dromeaz-as-ip only edited your page, and was constructive, I would not block. Otherwise, I'm inclined to continue Mlauba's pattern then. However, I'm also likely to disappear for the next few days so I may not be exactly timely myself. Syrthiss (talk) 16:22, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Refusal to follow up on your denial of a request to remove a block of IP 98.160.221.12
You refused to remove a block on a friend's IP address, and then didn't respond to his follow-up message in regards to you action. Since he is unable to post on your page, I was asked to put his response on your page on his behalf. Forgive me if I am not using proper protocol, as I am not a regular user of Wikipedia. I have never made a post on this site and I'm not sure I'm using the proper technique to do so, so also forgive me if this is not the right technical procedure to post something on you page, but I do share my friends concerns and feel they ought to be heard. From his response (The link to it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:98.160.221.12):
The stated reason for the block was "long term abuse." I contest the claim that two posts over six days can fit the definition of "long term." Secondly, although the first edit that I ever made on this MAY have constituted abuse. The second edit, in no, way, shape, or form constitutes "abuse," as it is factual information, which contained no profanity, threats, obscenity, etc. It is simply not abusive under your own rules. It may have been improperly placed, but that is not grounds for blockage.
Additionally, the second edit did not violate any other provision that I am aware of after reading the Wikipedia page that states the reasons to allow blocking of a user. I simply made a statement in my second edit that the majority of administrators here at Wikipedia clearly find to be politically incorrect, as I have always noticed a heavy left-wing and totalitarian slant present in Wikipedia entries. This belief is currently being substantiated by how this issue is being handled -- you won't even adhere to your own rules...a clear sign of totalitarian and Marxism. Consider your own rules:
-As a rule of thumb, when in doubt, do not block. −−−−→Clearly there would be reason to doubt, specifically when my edits were never made on the page because they were incorrectly stopped by a filter that was made to catch a different individual who is a frequent "abuser" of this website (This was admitted by another administrator when I protested the filter).
-Administrators should take special care when dealing with new users. Beginning editors are often unfamiliar with Wikipedia policy and convention, and so their behavior may initially appear to be disruptive. Responding to these new users with excessive force can discourage them from editing in the future. −−−−→Only having made two edits in six days clearly would make me a new user. Perhaps the iron-fisted ways that you deal with new users, such as myself, who also happen to be right wing and very much in favor of the fair enforcement of rules, are so turned-off by this website. Most aren't willing to try to fight the administrator's violation of Wikipedia's rules and simply move on to other sites. Then you are left with a heavy bias because all that remains are left-wing contributors, which is very contrary to the concept of Wikipedia.
-A user may be blocked when his or her conduct severely disrupts the project; that is, when his or her conduct is inconsistent with a civil, collegial atmosphere and interferes with the process of editors working together harmoniously to create an encyclopedia. −−−−→There is no way my actions could be cited as "severe," when all I did was add two governments to a list of Marxist governments. I, along with a great deal of others, believe they currently have become governed by Marxist rules. I see there is a documentation requirement that I missed, but I can easily provide documentation. Additionally, there was no documentation provided for the nations already listed as Marxist. It appears that a fellow Marxist is simply trying to protect the Marxist regimes by blocking me, specifically when the changed information was never published on the page.
-Blocking is a serious matter. The community expects that blocks will be made with good reasons only, based upon reviewable evidence and reasonable judgment, and that all factors that support a block are subject to independent peer review if requested. −−−−→Once again, it requires ALL factors to be independently reviewed. Your statement: To be unblocked, you must CONVINCE [nice burden of proof there, by the way] the reviewing administrator(s) that the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or the block is no longer necessary because you understand what you have been blocked for, will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and will make useful contributions instead.
I clearly understand that I've been blocked for "long-term abuse," which I have disputed. Even if it is "abuse," which I don't feel it is, its certainly not "long term" in nature. You, however, clearly display that you have not considered the factor of whether or not the other administrator's block was with-in Wikipedia guidelines to begin with. I encourage you to review Wikipedia's own grounds for instituting a block, which will clearly displays that this block was completely unwarranted.
To me, it appears that certain administrators have used power to suppress opposing views, instead of address them in the manner that Wikipedia's own standards require. It's shameful and a violation of the spirit of Wikipedia. However, it does expose the lengths that the left will go to in order to advance their agenda.
I encourage you to ensure that the standards of Wikipedia are followed by it's own administrators, who should have full-knowledge of the standards, instead of unwarrantably attacking a first-week user. Otherwise, you do take the risk of making Wikipedia appear further biased to us on the right-wing, who comprises half of this world. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.61.180.141 (talk) 02:45, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- I am sure that your 'friend' will appreciate that typically once an admin has acted on an unblock request, usual protocol is to be hands off to any further requests so that another admin can look at the page with fresh eyes. Since your 'friend' didn't place any more unblock requests, just the lengthy wikilawyering rant that you copied here, he guaranteed his 'supression' (especially since I was offline for most of last week). Just keep in mind (this message is for you and your 'friend') - POV warriors of any kind aren't welcome here. Syrthiss (talk) 12:26, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Petrification
Hey there.
A capital letter was probably used because it refers to the results of a spell (curse/magical action, whatever) so the OP assumed it warranted capitalisation, much in the same way Petrificus Totalus is capitalised.
I agree with your assertation, incidentally, that it doesn't need capitalisation, but hey - you did ask!

Deleted page,
You just deleted the page "men with helmets" , it was set up as a information page about a team. such as Arsenal or Djurgårdens IF would love to get a explanation for it. If it was posted in a incorrect section i would love to have a backup from it so i can repost it correctly. Thank you in advance. --Chr c (talk) 19:37, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, though I didn't delete it. I only nominated it for consideration of deletion. In particular: (1) it seemed more like an advertisement than a neutral encyclopedic article (compare what you wrote to those pages you linked), (2) it didn't assert why your clan was notable in a credible fashion (ie biggest clan, most fragged newbies as cited in a reliable source), and (3) at the time when I nominated it, it was mostly just a list of the members. If you would like a copy of the text I can supply it, but please consider addressing my points above before reposting it or it may end up deleted again. Thanks. Syrthiss (talk) 19:51, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, will absolutly take it in consider! --Chr c (talk) 19:59, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

deleting user page
I dont know why the user page was deleted.. Will it matter. I can still contribute to articles... What was the purpose of deleting a user page and how does that effect the user me? --Sonisona 02:40, 11 January 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sonisona (talk • contribs)
- It shouldn't have any effect on you. It was deleted because some other user redirected it to an article. I don't know if he thinks you are the subject of the article or what, but we don't allow redirects to cross namespaces (for example from userspace to articles, or from articles to userspace). I didn't leave you a note because I assume it was done without your consent, correct? Or are you saying that you are also the user who redirected it? Syrthiss (talk) 14:07, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Ok thanks understood.... No I did not redirect anything.--Sonisona 22:04, 15 January 2011 (UTC)--Sonisona 22:04, 15 January 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sonisona (talk • contribs)
I'm not sure what was happening there, but it seems an editor decided to re-edit the redirect from whence it was moved. Anyway, I've reverted to how you left it, mainly to preserve the history, but not really sure what was going on. Rob Sinden (talk) 09:33, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, thats all I'm concerned about... avoiding him making 25 cut and paste moves to List of Characters From Rambo and List of Rambo Associated Characters That Aren't Rambo and Burminese Woman. The list is pretty bad so I'm hoping that someone will nom it for deletion as unsupported OR. Thanks for the revert. Syrthiss (talk) 12:19, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oh yeah - it is truly awful! But, I guess everything and everyone has to start somewhere. Could be a valid article with work, so can't quite bring myself to nom it. I removed the "Burminese weman" and the "Pakistan's army" though! Rob Sinden (talk) 13:35, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of KAY (Singer)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on KAY (Singer), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ttonyb (talk) 20:01, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello, fellow Wikipedian
Seeing, as I do, that you are very experienced and highly knowledgeable about Wikipedia, I was wondering if you could comment on a suggestion I have made. I am proposing that Simon (cat) be merged with HMS Amethyst (F116). I'm wondering if my proposal makes sense and if I have done it correctly. Thanks. Sorry if there is perhaps a better person to ask about this. Geofferic T•C✡ 07:25, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi there. I'm kind of torn. It is probably borderline enough that you wouldn't get consensus to merge it. I'm personally unclear how a non-governmental agency's award can be the equivalent of a Victoria Cross...but I'm also not an expert on this topic by far so I'm probably missing nuances. I certainly don't think you would be able to incorporate the large amount of text on Simon's page into the Amethyst page, so we'd be losing some detail that is probably best left on its own.
- You did it correctly, though. Don't worry about asking me things, aside from my in-and-outness causing a time delay from when you ask to when I reply. Syrthiss (talk) 12:53, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! Geofferic T•C✡ 13:14, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
Inappropriate move/title of Brian Reynolds article
Saw you helped out on a recent inappropriate move of the Brian Reynolds article. I've noted on the discussion page for that article that disambiguation to Brian Reynolds (strategy game designer) isn't really appropriate for an individual who has designed games in several genres and is more recently involved with facebook games and role-playing games. (Also the disambiguation itself was performed by a user who apparently was promoting a band "Creation's Tears" the page for which has subsequently been deleted - so the appropriateness of disambiguation itself may be questionable).
I'm not exactly an expert on WP and wouldn't dare try to move/rename a page, but since you'd shown an interest & expertise I thought you might be willing to look into it. Thanks! 68.34.0.181 (talk) 17:04, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yah, I may move it to (game designer) or something. Let me look into it some more. I had assumed that when I said 'bad editor! no cut and paste moves!' that he would request a move instead or drop it. Syrthiss (talk) 13:03, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for help on my sig!
Something got gimpy on my talk page, so I wiped it and put the thank you here! Geofferic T•C✡ 15:15, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Ok, another question...
Say I feel someone is being antisemitic, fairly blatantly, and in the Talk of a Jewish-related article. I realize this is likely to get squashed very quickly, but on the off chance that it's not, what do I do about it? Is it reported somewhere? Wikipedia:Abuse doesn't seem right - I felt it directed me to Wikipedia:Long, but that's clearly not correct. Geofferic T•C✡ 03:10, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, in general I'd say you have two paths, and both lead to WP:ANI (the administrators incidents board). You could ask the user on their talkpage if they could tone it down, or if it is really just over the top and / or you don't feel comfortable doing that you could go directly to ANI. However you end up at ANI, even if you are upset please please please make your report as neutral, concise and supported with links to the behavior as you can. If you go in and say "OMG BAN ANTISEMITIC BASTARD XYZ" (which I don't believe that you would do, btw) you're probably going to be ignored or end up with XYZ and yourself blocked. If you say "Anti-semitism concerns with editor XYZ at Jewish people", you'll do just fine. Keep in mind what your desired outcome is. Do you want them blocked? Do you want them to have a topic ban? Do you just want another editor to have a word with them?
- If it really isn't obvious and blatant, you would likely have to start a WP:RFCU (request for comment on a user) and see how other editors view it. I could probably help you a bit with getting that started, but I've never filed one myself so I'm by no means an expert. Syrthiss (talk) 14:03, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Charles de Gaulle Airport
Hi - I don't quite get the "undue weight'. CDG has been getting awful passenger reviews and rankings. I find this is an appropriate piece of information for the public. It should also motivate CDG to enhance the situation. I deleted a paragraph in the re-edit which could have been viewed as a personal opinion. The other information however is strongly referenced. Thx. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.168.118.111 (talk) 13:36, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Have you read WP:UNDUE? Material in the encyclopedia articles shouldn't be intended to 'motivate CDG to enhance the situation'. While they material may be strongly referenced (a point that I'm not so clear on either, but thats a side point), its prominent location in the article essentially places more importance on that aspect of CDG than things like location / operations / etc. Even with the bit from Forbes that was positive, NPOV doesn't mean that you can say a bunch of negative things in the article as long as you say some positive things as well. I hope this helps. Syrthiss (talk) 13:44, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
I've read it and given the considerable criticisms on the airport, undue weight is a matter of perspective - i.e. you own personal perspective. But given I find that this point is of importance, are you agreeable to move it down the list? 85.168.118.111 (talk) 13:50, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- I am certainly willing to consider that. However, since the addition was reverted by another editor as well prior to my reversion I think you really should bring this up on the talkpage for the Charles de Gaulle Airport article. I don't have any attachment to the article, so I would take my opinion as that of an outsider to the article with my interpretation of wp policies. Syrthiss (talk) 13:59, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Miracle at Donna
To Whom It may concern
I am posting a note on your talk page< hoping this is right, as I am new to wikpedia. Miracle at Donna is not advertisment, nor promoting one perosn or a product.
This is a true story currently being shot in South Texas. This is a true story. This is biopic documentary.
This is verifiable. Please do not tag with speedy deletion. This is important film. Thank youStevenpublicist (talk) 18:37, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Steven, posting it to my talkpage is fine. You didn't need to add the hangon here, but its no big deal that you did. I disagree with your logic though, that because it is page for a film that it is not an advertisement. However, because I tagged it you don't have to worry that I would delete it out of hand. Some other administrator will come by and make a determination. Honestly, do you feel that the article that you have submitted is neutrally written about a subject that you have no connection to? Wanna handle User_talk:Hoising now that you did HKFootball? The two were so inextricably linked, that I felt if we gave into one of the edit-warrers, the other would have to as well. I did not feel that HKFootball had really addressed things as asked. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 15:07, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- Well, to be fair... I only unblocked FootballHK because Wifione set a specific condition and FootballHK met that condition. I had already declined the earlier request, but if the blocking admin set conditions and they were met and the blocking admin specifically stated that another admin could unblock based on that exchange while they were offline I couldn't really refuse in good faith. I don't see a similar exchange going on (so far) at Hoising's page. I also realize that their unblock is hard to parse because of the Chinese to English, so its hard for me to make a determination exactly what they are saying...to where I was reluctant even to try and get clarification. I'm willing to make a comment to that effect, but would have a hard time lifting the block at this point even if it appears unbalanced. Let me know if you want me to do that, please. the two Hatice Sultans
check the contents of 2 Hatice Sultan please I put their contents properly into the following:
- Princess Hatice, HIH Princess Hatice Sultan was an Ottoman princess (fl. 1720–1730), daughter of Ahmed III and consort to Grand Vizier Nevşehirli Damat İbrahim Pasha;
- Hatice Sultan (1766–1821), was an Ottoman princess, daughter of Mustafa III and sister of Selim III.
193.255.108.20 (talk) 16:09, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- Except you have now essentially done a copy and paste article move, instead of a proper article move that preserves the history. I would assist in the proper movement and setting up the disambigs, but I am afraid of violating WP:3RR (even if technically it is not 3RR) because of your reversions of my edits. Syrthiss (talk) 16:13, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
I did not know that rule before, but I think it is clear now, there are 4 "HATICE SULTAN"s in Turkish wikipedia, and I have preserved the contents of Princess Hatice which does not have a Turkish Wikipedia page, and Hatice Sultan (1766–1821) which has a Turkish page. Turkish Wikipedia has also another Hatice Sultan, the Daughter of "Abdülhamid II" which does not exist in English wiki. The fourth one is "Hatice Sultan", the daughter of Murad V, this page does not exist in English and Turkish Wiki, as well. Perhaps somebody prepares these pages soon. 193.255.108.20 (talk) 16:32, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- You did not know of 3RR, or of the rule against copy and paste moves? I have been doing some reading, and despite the pages being translations of the Turkish wikipedia pages they should follow the English wikipedia manual of style. If that was the case, and there are only two pages here on the ladies Hatice Sultan then we would use a hatnote and not a full disambiguation page. As you say, we may indeed have 4 pages on esteemed Hatice Sultans at some point soon...so I agree that we might as well have a disambig page as you have set up. To correct the cut and paste move, do I have your agreement that I can fix it without violating 3RR? The end result will look like it does now, but the history will be preserved in a way compatible with the licensing on Wikipedia. Syrthiss (talk) 16:40, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
I have now fixed your cut and paste move. From looking at the Hatice Sultan page on the Turkish wikipedia, it is unclear to me that our Princess Hatice article has an article over there. It seemed to be redlinked. If you have the appropriate link, I'd appreciate you putting it in. While I appreciate the work you are doing with topics of Turkish interest over here, I request respectfully that you abide by the English language Manual of Style and our policies about 3RR and cut and paste moves. - Tim seems to have really quit, and we should all move on now, but just because I promised you, and because we showed that Tim had put his full name and website in that MediaWiki code a while back, I think I should share with you. Basically, it was what I should have done before going to SPI: look through their edit histories and you'll see that Tim and Pianette7 never edited at the same time (although in a couple of cases Pianette went on right after Tim stopped).
You might also want to check out this AN/I from nearly three years ago, following Tim's only block ... very similar issues, same tantrums, and more substantial and credible allegations of socking (the two IPs mentioned resolve to the Baltimore area).
I'm not blaming you or faulting you in any way for your good-faith skepticism at the SPI ... at the time you were making legitimate criticisms, and I am familiar enough with you in other capacities to have no doubt of your bona fides. I do wish this had turned out better, but now even more so since it appears we had a red flag on this a long time ago. Daniel Case (talk) 05:10, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

- Yep, it may not have come across well but I wanted to make sure that things were done in a proper fashion. I'm not familiar enough with arbcom to know if they will throw out evidence of socking if the rationale for a Checkuser is shaky. I assumed you were acting in good faith. - (my reply on Linholm's original account talkpage): I deleted the article because I agreed with the nominator that you failed to assert notability of the organization. I also deleted it because with so little content and the single external link, and because it was created by you who are clearly named in the article, I assumed your intent was to advertise using Wikipedia. Aleksandr Rubel
Aleksandr Rubel seems to need a LOT of work. So much work that I really don't even know exactly where to begin with it. I was wondering if you could point me to a 'decision tree' or give me an idea of how to decide just what all is wrong with something like this. I can see it is orphaned, but it also is poorly written, doesn't cite any English language sources and may be a verbatim copy of the Estonian article (which I understand is bad, but I do not understand why). Geofferic T•C✡ 08:42, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- Well, sometimes you just aren't going to find english language sources. I ran into this oddly only last year: someone had an article on a Vietnamese singer, and I was having a really hard time judging her notability because all I could find were sources in Vietnamese. I ended up asking at the Wikiproject Asia for someone who could read Vietnamese to vet the sources...so that may be the first course: check for an Estonian wikiproject or ask Anna if she would look at them. I don't know if you speak Estonian or not. ;)
- If you can establish that he is notable and that the sources are good, you could start by adding details about the court case, some more biographical information on Rubel himself, and then cleaning up the details about the victims (even making them a list). You might look up some of the American serial killer articles and see how they are structured, tho I realize the parallels aren't great given that we have an obsession with serial killers so there is so much more information on their lives out there. Maybe look for a Japanese serial killer article, that may be more typical for other countries.
- When you say it may be a verbatim copy of the Estonian article, you mean the Estonian-language wikipedia or one of the Estonian sources? If it is the Wikipedia, then you can do an interwiki link back to the source article and make a note at the bottom that it is a direct translation of the article on the Estonian wikipedia. If it is of one of the newspaper sources, then I believe our position is that a machine translation of a non-free source in another language doesn't satisfy the requirements of non-derived work. I could check that with one of the more copyright-minded admins, though, since I am not an expert. Syrthiss (talk) 12:57, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
I don't think it would have made any difference in this particular situation, but WP:BLANKING disagrees with your statement that users may not remove block notices from their pages while the block is in effect. --Onorem♠Dil 13:46, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
- True, tho in reality I should have just blocked the sock tpar from the beginning. Don't we usually do that to force them to request unblocking on the main account? Syrthiss (talk) 13:48, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
- Just double checked. I believe you are incorrect - they may not remove valid edit restriction notices, and blocks are indeed edit restrictions. A block notice visible on the page lets other users who don't perhaps check logs or the contributions page know that the editor that they are communicating with is blocked. Wikimania 2012 bid, DC chapter & next meetup!
- At WikiXDC in January, User:Harej proposed that DC submit a bid to host Wikimania 2012. A bid and organizing committee is being formed and seeks additional volunteers to help. Please look at our bid page and sign up if you want to help out. You can also signup for the bid team's email list.
- To support the Wikimania bid, more events like WikiXDC, and outreach activities like collaborations with the Smithsonian (ongoing) and National Archives, there also has been discussion of forming Wikimedia DC, as an official Wikimedia chapter. You can express interest and contribute to chapter discussions on the Wikimedia DC Meta-Wiki pages.
- To discuss all this and meet up with special guest, Dutch Wikipedian User:Kim Bruning, there will be a meetup, Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 16 this Tuesday at 7pm, at Capitol City Brewery, Metro Center. There will be a pre-meetup Wikimania team meeting at 6pm at the same location.
Apologies for the short notice for this meetup, but let's discuss when, where & what for DC Meetup #17. Also, if you haven't yet, please join wikimedia-dc mailing list to stay informed. Cheers, User:Aude (talk)
Credit Card Balance Transfer
Hello Syrthiss,
With reference to your message posted on Credit card balance transfer page, I would like to state that I respect Wikipedia guidelines and adhere to them. Therefore, I fell I should discuss this link with you. Actually I wanted to add-on to this credit card balance transfer article. If one is discussing about credit card balance transfers, then one should not be kept in dark about the usage of credit cards. We are actually unaware of how these credit card companies can eat us by altering Annual Percentage Rate and charging Effective Annual Interest Rate. Moreover, this article should also talk about the reality of different flat rates. If I had to spam or use it for marketing, I could have posted the link of this site on Ezine Articles or Articles Base websites. In They could have generated ample traffic but I feel it's our ethical and moral responsibility to guide users about considerations they have to make while transferring balances from one credit card to another. I also feel that comparison of different credit cards available in the market will give potential customers an insight on the current credit market. Therefore, I request to place this link on this page because I learnt many things regarding credit transfers from this website. The article currently has no citations or references and this link will be very handy for Wikipedia users. I will also add more content in the coming days.
And let me know if I can do anything else for wikipedia.

User talk pages
I'm confused. I just found one you'd tagged csd for spam. In my earlier days of tagging I got told off for tagging these pages, and just to blank them (with an appropriate message to say what I'd done. Two questions: first, is it correct to delete these pages, or just to blank them; second, if the answer was 'sometimes', when? Peridon (talk) 16:53, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'd say it depends on how extensive the advertising is, and how many edits the editor in question has outside of the promotional content on the talkpage. I'm not sure there is a guideline, or if there is if I am following it. In this particular case, I noticed the page a few days ago and waited to see if they were perhaps just working up a draft to a page. This editor has no edits outside of their talk page, and their name is borderline - it could be just a username for someone who likes automotive lights or cars that don't weigh a lot but it could also be for a business that sells automotive lights (likely since that was the content that they had on the talk page). The G series of CSD criteria apply to all spaces (article, user, template, etc), so they are certainly permitted to be used on user talks. It certainly would be less confrontational to blank the content and perhaps warn the editor with uw-advert. Was this info helpful to you? Syrthiss (talk) 17:04, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. Actually, I blanked it and put 'Promotional material removed'. I've found that's politer than 'spam deleted' and they rarely seem to do it again. Peridon (talk) 17:10, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
- He did it again. ;) I removed it and gave him an advert2. Syrthiss (talk) 17:04, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
JSprog
Hi Syrthiss, I just want to say, I don't know if I should, but, I am starting to feel a little sorry for user: JSprog. What if this user is telling the truth? Is there any possible way of determining he's for real, or his faking? It wouldn't be fair to judge the host for what someone else may have done. Thank You -- MelbourneStar☆ (talk to me) 09:13, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Its very unlikely. You can see that Muzemike, Fox and Jeremy have all been suspicious as well about JSprog's explanation. If he really cares that much about editing the encyclopedia, he can wait enough time for the autoblocks to expire and create a new account and make productive edits. I'm sympathetic to his situation if it is real, but without a significant editing history or a confirmed identity hash there's no way of telling even now that he is back in control of the account. Deletion of page International School of Uganda
Dear Syrthiss, after about 2 hours of work, i finally finished the page on the international school of Uganda, and a few hours later it was deleted. i have seen many similar pages like the one i had created, but am unable to understand why it was this page only that was deleted. i would be grateful if you could tell me why, and also how to fix the article so it would be acceptable for upload. thanks Losthero1990 (talk) 16:23, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- Dear Losthero1990. (1) This page was deleted because it appeared to promote the school. It used phrases such as "we", and "enduring", which are unlikely to be found in neutral encyclopedia articles. (2) #1 there is understandable because it is almost word for word a copy of the school's website. Not only is this a copyright violation and plagarism, but as the school has its own website it certainly doesn't need us to mirror their website for them. If you would like to write about the school in a neutral fashion using your own words, and back up your statements with reliable sources that support the notability of the school we would love to have an article on it. I hope this helps. Syrthiss (talk) 16:31, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Driven by Nature
I was starting bio...bio-something's talk page, telling him to make it an article, not a user page, and I saw that you wanted to delete it. Why? BulborbHunter (talk) 13:58, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- Because the user appears to be connected to the company that they are writing about. In general,
spammerspeople with strong connections to their companies (ie PR departments) think that they can create articles on Wikipedia that outline their company's activities and mistakenly think that doing so on their userpage will get them around our guidelines regarding advertising. Syrthiss (talk) 14:03, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Regarding Young Communist
There is of course irony that YC has removed my comments for him to tone down his rhetoric, yet feels it necessary to reinstate those on anothers page. Whilst I stand by my urging for him to moderate his comments, I also respect his userspace - which is why I reverted vandalism there some time back. I agree that his blunt comments could be regarded as personal attacks C'est la vie, perhaps a more formal warning, given his other comments on the page? a_man_alone (talk) 17:18, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

CANARIE funding has been cancelled by the Harper Conservative Budget - June 6, 2011
I am editing the top part of the entry to reflect the cancellation of CANARIE funding in the recent 2012 budget. The funding was present in the version of the budget tabled in the last parliament by the former minority Harper Government but it has been removed as 'no longer required'. Let me know if you have any issues with any of this and I will address your concerns as quickly as possible. I am trying vary hard to be neutral and to document this extremely well. I may lose my job because they were paying my salary. If you are not familiar with the nuances of the Canadian parliamentary system, I am a former government employee and will I explain it to you.
It is shocking that Canada would become the only G-20 country without a Nationally-funded Research and Education Network. This has not been picked up by the press as yet so it is important that this Wikipedia entry be accurate and timely. Please allow me to enter the documentary evidence. Unpopular (and unwise) decisions are often hidden in the spending estimates as this one has been.
J.A. from ACORN-NL and mun.ca
- My condolences for the job situation. Has this information been picked up in any press at all? Xeno mentioned on email that he had been talking to you, and I don't know how much about Wikipedia he explained to you. We don't do research, we can only report what other people have researched. I think you could cite the budget and have a statement like 'For the 2012 fiscal year budget, the CANARIE line item has been removed'. If there are news stories on it, you could cite them and whatever they are saying about it...but if it is just a simple fact, we aren't allowed to embellish it. Hope this helps. Wyatt Earp GAN
Wyatt Earp was listed as a GA in April, then went through a GAR and was delisted. It is now going through another GAN. Wyatt Earp is one of Wikipedia's most popular articles and is on an important and complex topic. The GAN is on an initial seven day hold while the reviewer checks sources. Meanwhile there is some work to be done on trimming back excessive detail, and on making the article flow more by reducing the amount of subsections. See Talk:Wyatt Earp/GA3 for more detail. Request to create a wikipedia bio page
Hi Syrthiss, Scott Howser asked me to take over the task of creating a wiki bio page for Christopher P. Lynch, a notable series high-tech entrepreneur in US. Do you think I should create a new page with content that is neutral and verifiable, and have you help review it? Please advise on how to proceed. Thanks! --Mhong2011 (talk) 13:50, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- With respect, I don't think you are a good candidate to create a page on Mr. Lynch either since your userpage clearly states your connection to the same company as Mr. Howser. That being said, I am willing to give you benefit of the doubt and let you attempt it at User:Mhong2011/Christopher Lynch preliminary (which I will create for you). If you are unfamiliar with our editing format, you can look at WP:YFA. If you don't want to learn the syntax for creating references, I can do it for you: just place a link to the reference right after the text it supports, or below the paragraph if one source supports everything there. I hope this helps. Happy editing. Syrthiss (talk) 13:58, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Syrthiss, thanks to your help a few weeks ago, the page Christopher P. Lynch was published successfully. However its status still indicates "This page is a new unreviewed article." Since you helped conduct extensive review last time, can you please update its status? Also, for future updates to this page, do we need to notify you or other reviewers manually, or is there a process for you folks to be notified and to review the updates for their approval? Thanks!--Mhong2011 (talk) 22:33, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
AN3 closure
J Milburn is an active image patroller. He is not an uninvolved admin, and his close is disputed on both policy and practical grounds.
Let's have a proper close here, with a proper assessment, from somebody who does not have their own clear agenda and position in the discussion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jheald (talk • contribs)
- The best place to put such a note is on the page itself, as I have done. That is the first appropriate venue for discussion, to be exhausted first before any potential escalation elsewhere. Milburn is not an appropriate person to call a result on a discussion like this. Jheald (talk) 18:07, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- If you want a formal wiki-etiquette stance, I regard the section title as the property of the entire discussion and all its editors, to be edited updated questioned or modified as appropriate by any of those editors; not (unlike body text in a discussion) the property of the single editor who last edited it. Jheald (talk) 18:17, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- My apologies if I wasn't aware of specific ettiquette applying to WP:AN3. However, I stand by my view that J Milburn is not an appropriate person to close this discussion if the matter is properly to be put to rest; that a discussion ad loc. is the most appropriate venue to consider that question in the first instance; and that pending that discussion, the report cannot be considered closed. (It is clear, moreover, from the continued commentary and discussion, that in point of fact the participants do not consider the issues resolved, either.)
In such circumstances, even if editing the summary was unorthodox per the usual local page ettiquette, I continue to consider it appropriate in the wider light of WP:IAR, for the page to properly satisfy its purpose. Jheald (talk) 19:01, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Ed FitzGerald Article
The article titled Ed FitzGerald should not be deleted because it is the official biography for Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald. It is considered Public Domain and is referenced to his websites http://edfitzgerald.org and http://executive.cuyahogacounty.us. As an employee of the County, I have been given specific instructions and permission to use this biogrpahy in the creation of this page. Thank you.Cmm1991id (talk) 14:43, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm unblocking AkibanTech, who you (appropriately) blocked as a spam-only account. The editor has pledged to completely avoid adding any information about his company, or other promotional information, and will change his username to one that doesn't represent an organization (the name he wants to use is "Select.Optimizer" because it's a database term and he works with databases). I just wanted to give you a heads-up, thank you. -- Atama頭 20:59, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
User:Southernspaces
quoting DGG:
- We don't disagree on what is needed to be done; we disagree of how to get there. there is no question he cannot use that editor name. There are two schools of the thought about how to deal with it: one is to tell him to choose another, the other is to block it. Certainly I would do the 2nd if the first doesn't work. but I've told people to change hundreds of times, and every one of them has done so if they continue. My usual message is: "You must choose another username. As explained in WP:USER, only individuals may edit. When you have a username that is or includes the name of your organization, you imply that you are editing officially, and have a superior right to edit the page. But that is not the way WP works--all editors are considered equal--and your contributions like those of any editor must be justified by sources. I'm sure you did not intend to give such impression, but that's why we have the rule. Therefore, please choose another name. On that user page, you should say whom you are working for."
another editor driven off, mission accomplished. Slowking4: 7@1|x 19:05, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'll disagree with just about every word above not directly attributable to DGG (who I also have disagreed with in the past, often):
- Editor - while technically, they did edit an article I wouldn't call them an editor. You might. I call them a spammer: they are employed by someone, and tasked to add a link to their company.
- Driven off - it certainly was not the intention of the blocking admin (and I am not the blocking admin) to drive off an editor. It was the intention of the blocking admin to prevent someone from damaging the encyclopedia by adding advertising. I assume neither you nor the blocking admin have any real idea if the blocked editor came back and created a new account. I certainly have talked to many editors who I blocked in the past for advertising, and when they understood our policies created new accounts and contributed to the encyclopedia.
- Mission accomplished - if you mean the mission to prevent people from damaging the encyclopedia with advertising, then yes. If you mean a mission to drive editors away from the encyclopedia, then that is an erroneous assumption of bad faith on your part.
- I'll also say that if you read the entire exchange between DGG and the other editor, as linked from the full quote on your userpage, I believe you have taken away only part of DGG's message. We should not block someone for having a name 'Johnnysbutchershop' if they either (1) haven't edited yet or (2) have only edited articles on climate change and Beyoncee. It is clearly just a mistake in choosing a name on their part, and I am sure that when approached in a kind manner they would be more than happy to change their username. We should however block someone for having a name 'Johnnysbutchershop' when their first edits have been to create Johnny's Butcher Shop where the subject is not-notable and the contents of the article are 'We at Johnny's pledge the utmost in service for all your butchery needs'. Ideally we should warn them for advertising and require them to change their username, but I have seen many many accounts in the past who I did just that with...and who came back as user 'Beckyjbs' and continued their efforts to spam.
- I don't expect you will have stuck around to read this, but I hope you do and hope that you gain some understanding of 'the other side' of this discussion. Cheers, Syrthiss (talk) 12:45, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
- thanks for the response. "spammer" = no wp:agf; but intent does not matter; the outcome is that another editor was driven away. you did the IFF, and block procedure = congratulations; requiring editors with one edit, to go through the request unblock is unreasonable.
- i read DGG's extended remarks. his method is to sternly warn the editor to change their name with a reason, and then block if they don't comply. he says hundreds have complied; who knew spammers would comply with policy? wouldn't you agree, it's better to have spammers with a COI to be in the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in?
- DGG is a pro, who has to deal with real vandalism (lost books, library cards, abuse of priviledges) wouldn't you agree it's a better way? Slowking4: 7@1|x 14:39, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Syrthiss: I was able to add "The Dabljus" as an article last night. But it has been taken down two minutes later. What else can I do here? I have been trying this since January 2011. The Dabljus is a pop music band from Boston, MA. They've on several newspapers here, in Europe and in Brazil, where they have been very successful in their musical career. What am I missing? Please help. Thank you. Elcarvalho 14:32, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, well I disagree with the deleting admin that there was no credible assertion of notability. You do indicate that they've been in newspaper articles. You also claim that they've been on the charts - are you talking US charts or some other country, and do you have a source for that claim? I think my problem with the article would be that some of the language used and the general tone is promotional. It sounds a bit more like a brochure made by their father and less like an article made by someone neutral who is unconnected to them. I'd say if you could cut out some of that text, and find a source (sorry if I missed it) for the charting then we could go ahead and undelete it. The better you can explain how they meet the criteria at WP:GNG and WP:MUSICBIO, the better the chance that the article will be kept. If it is deleted, then you can always try again later when they have generated more success. Syrthiss (talk) 13:00, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
