We Can't Stop

Hi ShelfSkewed, its me, Plbds. I edited the page based on the portuguese version of it. The positions "We cant stop" reached in Brazi are being showed differently in both pages. Thats it, I was just trying to be true to the numbers of the portuguese page, and trying to help wikipedia with more information. Plbds: If you make a change like that to referenced material, you should provide a reliable source to replace the existing source. Since both articles claim that the information is based on a reference, it could just as easily be the case that it is the Portuguese article that is wrong.—ShelfSkewed Talk 20:23, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Plbds: I now think you are right. I looked at the histories of the songs you edited and found a pattern of Brazil chart positions changed without explanation 5 to 7 years ago. Although this user enjoys collecting and counting things, this user also believes that users' edit counts do not necessarily reflect on the value of their contributions to Wikipedia.

And I really like it. I'd love to put it on my user page too instead of my current one that leads to my stats, but I feel like I'd be claiming ownership of it and I don't wanna do that. Correcting wikilinks

Hello and thank you for your good work in improving wikilinks. You may be interested in WikiProject Bluelink patrol, where some of us co-ordinate similar work. Perhaps we can learn a few tricks from each other and ensure that we're concentrating on different areas rather than duplicating effort. In this instance, whatever the point of the guideline is, for some people the two negatives cancel each other out, leading to the exact same meaning as if they weren't there. But for others, that may not be case, making the current version unnecessarily confusing, and the double-negatives basically superfluous. How does the affirmative version have any impact on the what the guideline is trying to say, as you see it, as opposed to your preferred version with the double-negatives? - wolf 22:48, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Help with DAB?

Hey, in regard to Majorana (disambiguation) I was about to remove the fermion's entry for being a WP:PTM, but that would mean forcing people to take further steps to find the page they're likely looking for (I don't actually know what the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Majorana" is). -- Aislinncostello (talk) 19:40, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Two possibilities: 1) Leave it as it is; the Majorana fermion article refers to the particles as just "Majoranas" at least twice, so it could be considered a legitimately ambiguous use. 2) Move the entry to the See also section, so users who land on the dab page could still navigate to the article without the extra step. (There is no primary topic for Majorana, BTW. If there were one, the dab page would use the title with (disambiguation).) Hope this helps! —ShelfSkewed Talk 21:33, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

@RegentsPark: Yes, in general I agree that a mere mention of a notable person's child's name doesn't merit a dab page entry. But the Manmohan Singh article includes a referenced biographical sentence about Amrit, and a Google search showed me that her public political activities are covered by the media to the extent that she may well have an article in the future. Why Bangladesh Football Federation logo is removing from Bangladesh national football team???

Hello!

Since a year, many of us Wikipedians trying to add logo of Bangladesh football federation.svg on Bangladesh national football team & Bangladesh women's national football team. But everytime someone is deleting showing the reason: It was removed in accordance with the non-free content policy, with which you are obligated to comply.

My question is If we can't use that public domain logo how Argentina, India, Brazil and other national football teams are using their respective federation logo?

Also, this exact same picture is currently using on Bengali Wikipedia Bangladesh national football team pages including under 17, under 20, under 23 and the national teams (both men and women). See here: Men's National & Women's National

Please help by adding the logo and add some sort of file protection so that others don't delete this again!

I understand that you had reason to revert my edit, I just want to understand what you meant by "we don't pipe links on dabbed pages" so I can make better edits in the future. @TypoEater: All of this is explained in the Manual of Style for disambiguation pages, a section of which I linked to in my edit summary, but the relevant information here is: Disambiguation ("dab") pages (one of which Lamb is), although they are in the article space, are not articles. Dab pages are navigation pages with their own manual of style. One of the general rules for dab pages is that an entry should display the actual link—the article title—for the article being linked to rather than hiding the title behind a pipe, as you did with [[Lamb and mutton|Lamb]]. There are other considerations and exceptions, but unless there is a very good reason to do otherwise, the entry should show the actual name of the ambiguous term being linked to. —ShelfSkewed Talk 16:29, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

@WikiHmmmm...: I'm going to suggest learning to do referencing yourself, which really isn't too difficult and mostly involves some copying and pasting. All the information you need can be found at Wikipedia:Citing sources. I suggest starting with basic inline citations and using the templates {{cite book}}, {{cite web}}, and {{cite journal}}. The way I taught myself to do it was by finding a well referenced article (for instance, the daily featured article on the Main Page) and looking at the markup. The actual link—the portion of [[partition function|over partition sequence]] to the left of the bar—still goes to the disambiguation page partition function and not to a particular article. Which article should be linked to? Partition function (number theory)? Partition function (mathematics)? One of the others listed? As far as I know, there is nothing you can do to influence when a search engine will index a new article or reflect changes to an older one. But in my experience, Google, at least, seems to pick up Wikipedia changes very quickly—usually within a few hours, or even faster. —ShelfSkewed Talk 16:22, 14 August 2023 (UTC)

A quick question about disambiguation and indexing.

Hey there! User:ShelfSkewed, Hope this message find you well .. I was just wondering if you could perhaps help me understand or make light of something I just discovered a few minutes ago about 1 of the articles i created a while back. As someone who has been on wikipedia for over 17 years I'm hoping you could help me understand the confusion better, and hoping it will apply to my new book related articles too, While I'm being on and off Wikipedia because of my studies I thought I'd take sometime to improve some articles and thought I'd check if it could be found on google and it does show up in search engines because the articles has been reviewed but I had just discovered after returning that when I search the topic on google the wikipedia introductions doesnt link to the respective knowledge panel of the celebritiy

So my question basically is how do I link my created articles to the celebrities knowledge panels on google, If that is possible it would be nice to know how as I would like my encyclopedic contributions to be more discoverable outside wikipedia.

I know we spoke about something similar to this not to long ago I also just discovered there's a article which shares the same name as an article on Wikipedia which dominated the first page on google, so I had to disambiguate the one I made with (South African musician). I'm talking about these two B major & the one I created B Major (South African musician), Also Doc Shebeleza (South African musician) and Doc Shebeleza basically the same issue.

Susan King

Hey there! I just wanted to reach out to learn more, regarding the Susan King removal. I have seen other disambiguation pages with items w/o articles. Usually in broader scope, such as those sectioned off into "film, music, education", etc. where there might be 1-2 film, or a couple of notable people that don't have a page on such a vast disambiguation. I just wanted to know what made those acceptable versus a smaller disambiguation page like hers.

I thought it would have been noteworthy, if only due to the fact that she and the other Susan King are 2 Susan Kings who are both journalists that could be easily confused for one another. So then perhaps, based on this example I saw, would the only qualification be if I were to include this 2nd Susan King on the Los Angeles Times page's employee list or within its article, and then "blue link" Los Angeles Times:

• Susan King, former Los Angeles Times entertainment reporter

Would that be an acceptable inclusion on the page? And still, by no means making it permissible to link the page as an author link to the Angela Lansbury citation, mind you. That's not what I'm attempting to do either! But just here to learn. So I'll follow your page and look forward to a response. Disambiguation pages are navigation pages, so every entry should have a blue link for users to follow for relevant information, and the solution you propose would be absolutely fine per MOS:DABMENTION. Gotcha, so avoid any linkless entries (or red links that'll never get an entry, I read), because it's clutter. Good to know, so if I see any linked to nothing, make sure to navigate it somewhere.

And I've used several sources from her, so I'll do my best to see if I can find some biographical profiles about her journalism history from the papers. If not enough for its own stub, at least for inclusion within the LA Times article somewhere.

It was certainly in common use among the collectors and dealers I used to hang out with online years ago. Skew in general is considered a serious flaw in condition, and it can happen on the shelf or because of other improper storage. In poorly packed boxes or in high piles, the books at the bottom are likely to skew. —ShelfSkewed Talk 21:25, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
