Wales badge... an exception? for who?

Hi, I have noticed that you happily reverted all my edits on different Wales national teams. What I don't know is what criteria you were based on for those reversions; It's hard to understand why the Wales Association logo appears in 8 (!) articles while other NFCC images such as Brazilian CBF logo were only allowed to be displayed on the CBF article (the same with Argentine FA or other similar badges that appear on one or two articles at most).

So, why Wales national teams should be exempted from that? In fact, association badges were removed from most of all u19 or u21 teams articles (p.e. Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Spain, etc) due to NFCC criteria, so I would like you give me a reasonable argument to support your reversions. Otherwise, I will restore the changes. Thanks, - Fma12 (talk) 23:42, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

FIFA World Cup Finals List

On other football lists (eg. List of Premier League Winners) you have the amount of times a respective team have won the competition, why not this list? Furthermore, it adds extra depth to the article. ThomasTurner31 (talk) 19:05, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Lee Grant

Grant has played with the no. 13 shirt on his back for all the tour matches. If that doesn't qualify him as United's no. 13 then nothing does. Mn1548 (talk) 19:58, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

The only thing that qualifies Lee Grant as having been given the #13 jersey is United officially announcing either his squad number specifically or the squad as a whole. As you can see on the club's website, Grant has not yet been officially given a number. The only reason Fred has is so people can start buying his shirt! – PeeJay 20:11, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
Firstly, don't split conversations over two pages. Secondly, if he's announced as a different shirt number later - that's later. The fact is that he is playing in the no. 13 shirt so that makes him number 13! If Lukaku started playing in the no. 10 shirt unannounced, it's clear that United have given him the no. 10 shirt therefore not being the no. 9 anymore. Things don't have to be publicly announced to be true. Mn1548 (talk) 20:21, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

Man Utd Trophy Tally

There's nothing wrong with listing the full count as far as I can see. It isnt being listed to prove United have more trophies than anyone in England, that is already sourced seperately. This is a different statement entirely, and as it is officially sourced and factually accurate I dont see a reason for why it cannot be used. Davefelmer (talk) 03:11, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

I don't think MoS agrees. If it does, you've inconsistency elsewhere, e.g. Reviewing his performance on his first-team debut the Manchester Guardian newspaper commented that "he showed promise of fine ability in passing and shooting, but will have to move faster as a wing half". European Rugby Champions Cup

Hi PeeJay. I appreciate that we don't use sponsored competition names on Wikipedia but the competition has been renamed from the European Rugby Champions Cup to Heineken Champions Cup for the 2018-19 season and was previously known as the Heineken Cup from 1995 to 2014, and has pages for seasons that use this format. Most people searching for information will probably type in Heineken Champions Cup if looking for information. I don't mind using European Rugby Champions Cup and this is best title for the competition, but at the same time this is not the official name of the competition. I will leave it as it is but I think more specific feedback on this is required rather than simply reverting the page changes. Thanks. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 13:10, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

Further to our discussion I have mentioned this on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rugby union so that editors are aware of Wiki guidelines and hopefully we avoid any further confusion. Thanks. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 13:45, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

2018–19 European Rugby Champions Cup

Hi PeeJay2K3, I noticed you've removed the "Attendances" section on the 2018-19 season's page stating that "this doesn't seem particularly encyclopaedic to me". I personally disagree, I'd say statistics are encyclopedic. Also, if what you are stating is the case, shouldn't every single other season's page have said content removed from them as well, in the aim of consistency across related pages? I - and no doubt other editors - thank you for helping with the cleaning up of the page.
Also I would like your opinion on the idea of including a template or box/notice at the top of the page to indicate to other users that the page is a "work in progress" and is being updated regularly (ie after every match or so). I'll also add this to the point to the WT:RU page to get wider opinions. Thanks. --Jordan8396.ja (talk) 18:41, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Just seen this as well. I agree with alot of your points PeeJay2K3 but I don't think taking out information on the attendances is particularly helpful. Also season records can be used to give all time statistical information which is of interest to people. I would like to put back this information or at least have a more general consensus rather than one user deciding what constitutes encyclopaedic information. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 21:55, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
PeeJay2K3. I have reverted some of your edits regarding attendance information and statistical records. Some of the reasons given were that no sources have been added - this has been rectified in some areas while others will be added. It's a little disappointing that a message hasn't been left on editors talk pages explaining what changes have been made and why. It also disappointing after you provided such good advice on competition naming, which was insightful, constructive and reasonable, something the mass blanking of page sections is not. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 22:19, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
@Jordan8396.ja and Jgjsmith006: Apologies, but I was simply being bold by removing content that I felt fell foul of Wikipedia guidelines. Personally, I feel that a table of attendance figures is a violation of WP:NOTSTATS; as it says, Wikipedia is not a stats almanac, and a breakdown of each team's highest, lowest and average attendances is pretty useless in the grand scheme of things. In 20 years' time, I can well imagine that people will be looking for historical results, but they won't be looking to find out which team had the highest average attendance in any particular season. As for the stats records, those are fine to an extend provided that they're adequately sourced. I'm still not convinced that a season-by-season breakdown of which game had the highest margin of victory or which player kicked the most drop goals is particularly useful, and it almost smacks of original research to me. While it's possible to provide a link to each of those games, I haven't seen any independent sources that actually aggregate these stats, which would be the primary indicator to me that they're worth recording in a similar way here (and even then I might object as if the info is available in that form somewhere else, why should we bother to mirror it? Stats should be used to augment prose, we shouldn't simply present them out of context in a list). – PeeJay 22:49, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
I appreciate your apology and respect that you have provided a decent and reasoned explanation for doing what you have done but you have to understand that if you go around blanking sections it can cause problems with other editors, as well as put people off editing in the future, particularly new editors. Regarding attendances, I think that if the information can be properly sourced, and is relevant to the competition, then I think it should stand, unless a majority of other editors disagree. I don't think this is a decision one person can make. With regards to the individual stats, both Rugby Statbunker and the EPCR have similiar data - which I can add as source links later this week. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 08:05, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

It's been a long time, but I was wondering if you could help add references to 1888–89 Newton Heath LYR F.C. season? Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 07:51, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

2018–19 Champions League

So are we now using "Inter Milan" vs "Internazionale" for CL articles? Was there a referendum on this? I'm confused why a lone editor would decide he felt it should be different without any sort of discussion. Or maybe I'm simply in the wrong here. Could you explain this for me? Cheers. A couple of bits

Hi PeeJay, while doing an AWB run, I came across Gilbert Godsmark, which you created in 2008. Most of the content was removed in 2016 as unreferenced, although I assume the genref you had added would have covered this. Some of the detail about his army career and death have since been readded without sources. If you still have the book, I imagine you could restore your stuff with an inline cite without too much trouble.

Also, I recently expanded the Frank O'Farrell article and discovered that his start date at Man U was actually 1 July 1971. It's generally reported to be June, but that was when he was announced as manager, not when his contract actually started. Do you think that should be reflected on other Man U pages?

"Now Leicester Move Quickly for New Manager". Coventry Evening Telegraph. 9 June 1971. p. 30. Retrieved 27 November 2018 – via British Newspaper Archive. Last night's United statement said that O'Farrell would take up his new post on July 1, the day after his present contract with Leicester expires.

Cheers, Nzd (talk) 19:02, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

Giuliano Maiorana

Hi PeeJay2K3, the reason I'm asking is because you've been the most consistent and helpful editor of the page, would you be able to correct the nationality and background of Giuliano Maiorana in the article, please? As I'm sure you're aware, there's been a lot of confusion over this and even the Maiorana surname article leaves out his nationality. At one time an IP made an unsourced claim that Maiorana's parents were from Avellino but I've found this interview (which would make a good source) where Maiorana himself confirms this and his nationality. Other IPs have since removed information and categories relating to this and I'm still unsure about were him being born in Cambridge and FIFA eligibility rules come in and how to phrase it. Please let me know what you think, cheers. Theo Mandela (talk) 16:51, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

2005 Champions League Final

Hi, I noticed you removed the source I added. The source was not meant to reference the 2005 final but merely to source who the UEFA "football family" actually was in order to fix the clarification tag that had been placed on the article. Kosack (talk) 10:49, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

That's fine, I was only dealing with the "football family" issue rather than the whole section. Kosack (talk) 10:59, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

2009-10 NFC Championship page

You removed several edits I made to this page. The article cited that discusses the NFL overtime rule change specifically states that their sources did not think this game had anything to do with the rule change. They mention the Vikings voting against the rule change as evidence of their reasoning. I do not understand why that would be removed when it is in the linked article. The other statement about broadcasters widely noting the brutality of the game was not supported by the linked article and there was no other source provided. The game did gain increased notoriety after the Bountygate scandal, which is why that portion was left in the article. The factual information about the penalties is relevant to the discussion about whether the Saints team was excessively rough during that season. I do not want to be rude, and you certainly seem to be a thorough contributor, but I don’t understand why you would remove these edits without checking the sources first. You would have seen that the edits are accurate. Thank you for your time. JDPH21 (talk) 03:57, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

2009 UEFA Champions League Final

Oversimplifying references? What do you mean? Please be more specific. Colonies Chris (talk) 10:24, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi PeeJay - First of all, the Union of European Football Associations is universally known as UEFA. Even our own article is titled UEFA. Anyone who knows enough about football to be reading about the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final doesn't need to have the meaning of UEFA spelled out every time it's referred to. The same is true of FIFA. Secondly - websites. The URL provides the address, and the name of the publisher informs the reader of the source. "website=UEFA.com" is redundant as that information is already right there in the URL; "publisher=UEFA" gives you the source organisation. In addition, when the source is a newspaper or magazine, website in the form of an actual address is not usually helpful - what's more helpful is the publication name e.g. "work=The Guardian" is more informative than "website=theguardian.com". (In addition, in some cases I fixed, the website parameter was actually wrong - it speciifed "theguardian.co.uk" where the URL has "theguardian.com"). Also, for newspapers and magazines, publisher is usually redundant (see the documentation for the publisher parameter in the {{cite news}} template: "Not normally used for periodicals." and "Omit where the publisher's name is substantially the same as the name of the work"). Nobody who's checking a fact gains anything from being told that The Sunday Times is published by Times Newspapers, for example. I also sorted out as lot of references to "BBC Sport (British Broadcasting Corporation)". This is unnecessary and unhelpful clutter. The Wikipedia article on BBC Sport is titled BBC Sport, not British Broadcasting Corporation Sport, because the BBC is almost universally known by its initials.   You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Nicolás Otamendi; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

Start time of Superbowl

I do understand that the information is on the internet, but everyone does want to know. I thought I was being helpful. How about leaving it in and the deleting after the game? Like when was being needed a standard for content inclusion on Wikipedia? Kd4ttc (talk) 20:49, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

I searched the article and didn’t find that.Kd4ttc (talk) 21:42, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

Duh for me. It’s in the Box Score section. Never mind! Kd4ttc (talk) 21:45, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

Lol! Looks like we both recognized the Mea Culpa simultaneously! Keep up the good work, thanks for the kindness, and I hop you’re enjoying the game! Steve Kd4ttc (talk) 01:25, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

Spurs 3-4 City

Hey PeeJay. Just wanted to drop by and say thanks again for your support in keeping the Spurs/City FA Cup match article alive. Our efforts have been rewarded with the dubious accolade of having been quoted in the Daily Mail. Thought you might get a kick out of that, the same as I did this morning. Explanation

Hi, can you explain me why Football kit templates should not shows original logos? --FootKalos1597 (talk) 16:08, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

I think that there's not a violation of copyright when you show a commercial logo on a football kit, because it's a sponsor, an advertisement, it means that the owner of this logo paid the football club to show that logo. So if an image of that football kit shows that logo, it's still an advertising, there's not legal reason to judge that logo as a copyright violation. --FootKalos1597 (talk) 16:46, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Man Utd Busby era edit

I'm not obsessed with the CS particularly, just wanted a transitioning sentence going from the title win in 52 to talking about the Busby Babes and their titles. Seems a bit unnatural in the way its phrased, or do you not think? Davefelmer (talk) 00:39, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

Man thanks for revision, I thought that it was "International" with Brazil, not the Internacional the club, misread it. Sorry and thanks. :D — SimplyFreddie (talk) 17:06, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
