Couple questions about WikiProject SIA

Greetings Sarah, I hope things are going well. As one of the primary architects of SIA I wanted to ask you a couple questions about it.

1. . Is there a reason the project doesn't use importance? I saw you made a note in the template history and it appeared as though you couldn't get it to work so you removed it. I could get that working if you want.
2. . Could we change the template title a little bit to spell out SIA? I've had a couple questions about what SIA meant on the template. I would leave the SIA as a redirect so it could still be used.
3. Would it be alright if I added this as a Joint project to WPUS and the WPUS template? This would allow the articles to be covered by both projects.
4. The above three questions also for Template:WikiProject AAA.

Hi. If you'd like to spell it out that is fine. I will use the shortcut/whatever (tranclusion?) for ease of use purposes (SIA/AAA is easier to type out). If you want to have it incorporated into US that's fine, I'd just prefer to still keep using the specific Smithsonian related templates (and that is also the preference of my the organizations, too), if that is possible. I have chosen not to use importance like I have with other projects I have created or co-created. I do not feel that *I* personally have the right to gauge importance, especially when certain figures or subjects are more important personally to me than perhaps another. Besides, for these specific projects importance isn't a key component to our metrics gauging. I don't intend on changing that anytime soon. Thanks for coming by. It is unfortunate Engineering orgs and journals only share my contributions with members and subscribers, and not on their public websites so you could verify. Hey Sarah, do you have access to highbeam? If so, I did find these sources for BIN [1] [2]. The second one is pretty good actually and they should be a decent start. My question is, would it be legal for me to release the content of these articles to Bin95 in an email? I could then help with the sourcing. In addition, the user will need to have a username change. teahouse surprise

After reading Wikipedia:Help_desk#Unauthrised_Refacatoring I was surprised to see the editor was a host at the teahouse. I was further surprised that an editor with under 400 edits would have the experience to host. Hi SPhilbrick. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Wow. I'm pretty surprised too. We actually don't (at this time) have any restrictions on how many edits a host at the Teahouse needs to be a participant. We do have a few hosts that were newbies and evolved into helping on the Teahouse Q&A and have become pretty awesome good faith hosts. Media Hound is generally one of those hosts, so I'm surprised by this. Regardless, I'm on it, so thanks for bringing it to my attention! Sarah (talk) 18:03, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Qs Concerning Sean Reyes

Hi Sarah, yes, it's now glaringly apparent I am very new to Wikipedia but I did want to remove the maintenance / warning because the information in the article on Sean Reyes is factual. I included as many References / Citations as I felt were necessary with the understanding others could add to it. Sean is running for Utah's AG office and I would prefer the maintenance message at top of article be removed and allow others to edits within the scope of Wikipedia policy. I just need to know how to resolve the points you listed so we can remove the maintenance template because some are seemingly subjective in nature. Hi there, I didn't actually attend (as I was moving). Are you looking for feedback directly for someone involved or just general feedback about the event? I do think it's was a great event and I do wish I was able to attend. I look forward to seeing what comes from the event and I hope that everyone involved left with a strong sense of empowerment to do some great things to inspire women to participate! I also look forward to future events like AdaCamp DC and other efforts to bring together women and men interested in furthering the involvement of women in Wikimedia projects. Excellent! Berkeley is the foggiest, least sunny and therefore coolest East Bay city in the summer, because it is directly east of the Golden Gate where fog comes in. Oakland where I live is better, but has some overcast cool days when the wind veers south. East of the Berkeley Hills, like Pleasanton and Concord, is very hot all day. FYI, I added this section to the 2000 Census article a few years ago (probably needs a rewrite) and then I added the following to the Oakland article: "Census data showed that, among incorporated places that have at least 500 female couples, Oakland had the nation's largest proportion. In 2000, Oakland counted 2,650 lesbian couples; one in every 41 Oakland couples listed themselves as a same-sex female partnership." I love this crazy city for its liberalism and diversity. Here by the way is something I found a little disturbing. For about a month, I've been online via my tablet at home in the evenings, more than my laptop. This past Friday, my tablet had no charge, so I defaulted to my laptop. This past Friday was *also* the first time I've edited Wikipedia recreationally since I started being more tablet-using than laptop-using in my non-work time. That suggests that tablet usage mitigates against editing, which makes sense because tablets are obviously more consumption-oriented than production-oriented, and when you do "produce" on a tablet it's usually in ways that are pretty narrowly constrained.

None of this is a surprise, but it's bad. I hope that as tablets continue to get more popular, people still make time to use their production-oriented devices to contribute to Wikipedia, and to produce stuff in general. If not, we risk the web turning into something like (gah) television.

Just wanted to say that, because I was surprised by my own pattern here. I didn't make a deliberate decision to edit Wikipedia less, and I was more influenced by the device itself than I would've expected to have been. That's all. Thanks Sue Gardner (talk) 19:24, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Crtew. I am only attending Wikimania in Washington, D.C. this year. I will do my best to provide coverage if and where I can! I'll be taking photographs a lot, and we'll see what else happens, but right now I can't make any promises due to workloads. Teahouse host?

Well, really I'm flattered for the invitation. But I don't think I know enough to be a host. I kind of think of myself as a part-time receptionist. You know, the person who smiles and says "How can I help you?" and then usually sends you to someone who knows what they're doing. I guess I've been jumping in more lately because I hate to see people waiting for easy answers, and I know everyone is pretty busy. But since I teach school (as a sub right now), this time of year I've nothing to do. And I'd rather be on the computer than in my front yard in this heat and humidity cutting the grass. LOL But thanks for the invite. I could tell you how much I love the Teahouse, but I might slobber on your shirt and embarrass us both. :) Any little bit I can do to help makes me happy. Advice for Articles for Creation

Hi, I recently submitted an article for creation, Wikipedia Talk:Articles for creation/D-sharp major, which you declined because the subject of the article already exists in Wikipedia. However, D-sharp major redirects to E-flat major, which is not very accurate as they are rather different keys. I noted that G-sharp major used to redirect to A-flat major until it became a separate article on its own. There are still several redirects which have yet to be made into separate articles, but I only made one so far which was declined. I’m still quite new here, so I’m not exactly sure this is the place to ask. Am I doing something wrongly? Or am I not supposed to make a separate article at all? Coordinator sought for the US National Archives WikiProject

We are seeking a coordinator to help reboot the project and work on new initiatives! The role is modeled after other Wikiproject coordinators, like the WikiProject Military History coordinators. Hi Oniony! For a subject to be included on Wikipedia it has to pass general notability guidelines. That means, it has to have substantial coverage in news resources and secondary reliable sources. Sadly, the organization's website does not fall into either of those categories. That just might mean we'll have to wait for the organization to have an article until it becomes more notable and known. I hope this helps. Sarah, the links to the stub article by me that your editted on Patrick "Patt" Lalor doesn't work. The problem is that there is another Patrick Lalor (a 20th century politician) and typing in either Patrick Lalor or Patt Lalor diverts to his page. Is it possible for Patt Lalor to go to Patrick "Patt" Lalor, and for Patrick Lalor to bring up the optionn of both. Diversions are way above my skill level. Hi Mehran! Notability guidelines for Wikipedia are listed here. Just because it was published in one publication, that is not enough to warrant notability. It needs to have strong coverage in reliable sources - a paper being published doesn't not signify notability, sadly. It should be cited in numerous places, by numerous scholars, in numerous reliable scholarly publications. Also had a quick look at IRC, which I've never used before, and there seems a bit of a learning curve, qwebirc was already installed on my PC so I'm attempting to use it right now.

Just for your info: You welcomed a new contributor "Lumialover" on 14th June, the exact day when Nokia made some changes to their lineup in R&D public. Seems on this very day the new contributor succeeded in having a page deletion discussion going on about a page that linked to some Linux sites. That page existed the last half a year or so, and is now deleted. "Lumialover" seems to be a MS advocate, and can't stand Linux OS topics. I wonder where this "Lumialover" came from...anyway, this kind of deletes is why wikileaks etc. is needed, right? Greenspun illustration project

Um, I don't know if you are the right person to ask about this, but you are the only user in the wmf that I know. From what I gather after looking at the project(on meta wiki) it seems to be forgotten(dead?). In my opinion it is a very good project and I would like to see it up and running. What I wanted to know is if there is still support from the foundation for the project(there was a resolution passed in 2007 to support it). I'd just ping the people who were originally involved in the project, however, I'm not sure who is active or not. The Wikimedia Foundation Volunteer Coordinator, Cary, is no longer at WMF. There was some conversation last year on the talk page, too. I do agree (and this is personally, not as a WMF fellow) that the aesthetic nature of Wikipedia could possibly be a contribution to the define of Wikipedia. Sorry I cannot provide more help! Project news Progress on the help redesign fellowship continues apace. In-person usability testing is due to start next week, watch this space for results! A large survey about help pages was conducted. Responses are still coming in, but preliminary results are available. A new gadget has been proposed to make it easier for new- and non-editors to leave feedback about help pages. Please test it and leave your thoughts. In somewhat-related-project-news: the Teahouse has wrapped up its pilot phase with an extensive report. Planning and discussion is underway for phase 2. The biggest project I've been working on this month has been a large survey of users to find out what they think of our current help pages.
