Yes it does. Have you checked Euromaidan article? How about Pope Pius V? They are not that small and if they are there are many. Look for example here. What do you call it? Have you seen their warnings here, here and here? And this have going on since May 2013, with no one do anything about it! Care to explain why, @Strike Eagle:? Do you and user @Callanecc: understand that those IP users were braking syntaxes in many articles and their edits were mostly focused on spacing and substitution of cite web/news with Citation as well as substituting {{Uk icon}} with Ukrainian for example. Do you see that {{uk icon}} is better visually then its basic counterpart? And doing such edits as those above mentioned are disruptive according to WP:DISR policy, and no one will deny that!--Mishae (talk) 06:21, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Private communications edit

Over the last several months you have made a series of escalating attacks on my views about the admin system, wilfully misrepresenting them in crass ways and persistently disregarding the actual views I have expressed. When you were finally challenged on this matter you fell silent. Other admins I have had no prior contact with, and who do not appear to have read those engagements between you and me, have mysteriously appeared out of the blue and attacked me along the same lines that you do. More recently, Drmies has made a similar series of crass attacks, mirroring the same nonsense you attribute to me.

Have you been communicating in private with admins, such as these ones, about what you perceive as my sins? --Epipelagic (talk) 22:24, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your comments over the years in places where I regularly post have not gone unnoticed by other users. If you feel you are being attacked or misrepresented, you may wish to use various tools available to you to review the proximity of your comments with those of others, reflect upon their context and veracity, and consider whether or not your postings require further comment from others. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:40, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
As usual, you didn't answer my query. Please answer the question. --Epipelagic (talk) 05:57, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Well, I was "summoned" here, and there is a diff concerning me above. Just for the record, I saw Kudpung at Wikimania 2012, but have I think never communicated with him in any way: our paths have simply not crossed. Epipelagic, I don't doubt you are a fine member of the community here; but there is something about proponents of divisive views that ends up being self-fulfilling. It is perfectly easy to reason out why that is. Now I need to get back to work. Charles Matthews (talk) 08:16, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for leaving a notice of this conversation on my talk page. I had joined the conversation on AN: Indefinite block of Eric Corbett because I saw his comments on a talk page, and had not realised at first it was a conversation about a sheep in lambs clothing. My views on that particular editors foul mouth are well published and known not least by the man himself.
My comment on your talk page was triggered by what you wrote here when you wrote "Individual admin have much too much freedom to punish content builders" because I think your use of rhetoric to imply there are "content builders" and "admins" is a false dichotomy and I gave two examples of two admins (forgetting at the time what was then a new fangled device of alerting any user linked into a conversation -- which lead CM to the page). I did not attack you I told you what I thought, and hoped by the examples I gave I could help to let you see that it is a false dichotomy. It was not triggered by any conversation that you had with Kudpung, either because I had noticed them, or because Kudpung brought them to my attention.
As your specific question to Kudpung. I obviously can not answer for Kudpung but I can say that I have not had any communication of any sort with Kudpung away from Wikipedia. There is a tool called stalker available for encounters on Wikipedia which is used to check on sockpuppet accounts but can be used for this purpose:
To the best of my recollection I have not discussed any edit made by you with Kudpung on Wikipedia, but please check the above and see if my recollection is correct. -- PBS (talk) 11:22, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Charles and PBS. It would have been sufficient if Kudpung had just replied "No!", instead of milking it like this and making further attacks. --Epipelagic (talk) 21:28, 1 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Epipelagic, please do not post on this talk page again. Thank you. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 22:33, 1 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Major Plato rewrite edit

Attention is needed at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Philosophy and at every Plato related image, template and article. It looks as though User:Mercer.philosophy in collaboration with User:Nathan.besteman is doing a major rewrite of all Plato related pictures, templates, and articles. This widespread vandalism appears to be the work of some sort of 'Socrates' cultists, to credit Socrates as the real mind behind Plato. This, of course is not only perversely wrong, and counter to all existent scholarship, but undermines the credibility of all philosophy articles in Wikipedia.

As a side note, there is no point in my attempting to correct this situation, since it would only lead to an edit war against a collaborative vandal. Wikipedia rules automatically in favor of any collaboration, whether the collaborators be constructive or destructive. BlueMist (talk) 08:36, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi NY Amateur. I have not reviewed the situation because we have other places where you can best voice your concerns. You should take it up with the editor(s) concerned and on the respective article talk pages, and then seek WP:DR if that is unfruitful. I 'm afraid therefore that I cannot concur with your 'side note'. I also find that your signature is confusing. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:16, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your reply, Kudpung. I'll try WP:DR.
In the philosophy area (please see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Philosophy) there simply aren't enough concerned editors to make a democratic system work. There, any two editors can out-vote an objector and proceed to do whatever they wish. That is the difference between your collaborative experience as an admin, and mine as an editor. If you or other admins do not oversee the philosophy section, it can quickly become almost entirely worthless. That is why I am asking you. Btw, Can I change my user ID to BlueMist or Blue_Mist, which is what I really would like it to be? I assume not. BlueMist (talk) 10:43, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, but with over 16,000 articles on my watchlists and a couple of other projects to take care of I just can't take on anything else. As regards your user name, User:Blue Mist does not appear to be taken so read Wikipedia:Changing username and follow the instructions there. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:18, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Rudra john cena edit

Looking over this user's logs, I see exactly one new page review since he agreed to stop at 12:47 on 27 January (on his talk page). That one was a speedy deletion nom that resulted in a speedy deletion for advertising. One speedy tag does not a patroller make. I submit that while this user clearly has competency issues, acknowledging that they have effectively stopped attempting to patrol would be more constructive at this time. Thoughts? VQuakr (talk) 09:03, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I admit I'm pretty hot on the heels of NPP reviews, but I did in fact say: '...whether or not your patrols are accurate...' As the major protagonist for reform and improvement of NPP for several years, I admit that sometimes my comments are not perhaps as helpful as they may be, but he was asked by several admins to desist. There is a WP:NPRSCHOOL that he is welcome to visit but if he wants to police the encyclopedia, he could perhaps start with anti vandalism, but even there he would need 200 edits to be accepted at that academy. At the moment, he's probably more in line for an adoption programme. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:26, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
At this point, his crappy NPPing is the least critical out of a number of serious issues. I am going to follow up with him in detail today, if you would be willing to hold off on any administrative corrections for a little longer. BTW, sincere thanks for your hard work in pushing NPP to be better; it is an issue dear to me as well! VQuakr (talk) 16:15, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry - the only thing an admin can do is block, but poor NPPing is hardly a blockable offense. At the very worst, we hang a Tban on patrolling but even that is extremely rare. His English is also too poor to be really in command of any reliable policing of content. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 16:21, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Right, but where does it say so? edit

Regarding [1], would you mind adding a link or a footnote with explanation there? I added the "fact" there because this sentence didn't make it clear where this statement is backed up by a policy or practice, and because several other similarly potentially dubious claims are ref'ed with footnotes. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:17, 10 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Message from Cowhen1966 edit

Hello Kudpung, I bumped into you when I accepted an invitation to the Teahouse. I scrolled down various editorial articles and one of them caught my attention. I clicked on to your comments and found out that you are an administrator. I have not been here for even a month and frankly, I did not know that being on here could be so stressful. I am Ghanaian by descent but have lived in the United Kingdom for over thirty years. I am a mature individual and recently took up writing as a hobby. I have a PHD in English language and I'm a retired teacher. What brought me on here is my interest in Ghanain history and celebrity. I have recently been researching various notable personalities. Maybe, not as big as Kofi Annan and reasonably quiet for their type of success. I decided to do some research on someone who has been around for ages and notable in the Ghanaian community. My aim was to take the reader go through some of our rich culture in the arts, education and politics. I also wanted someone who is an expatriate and is making strides in both the Christian and Ghanaian community. On my travels I have met some interesting people on here. I have met some very very nice editors who have visited my article and made very few changes. However, I stumbled upon three editors on the live chat who go by the name Siteku, Howicus and Huon. The latter has not visited my article. Siteku I gather or may stand corrected, is a patroller of new articles. He has been very vicious both verbally and on my talk page. I have been trying to contact administrators but find Wikipedia a bit of a maze. I really like to progress on to other things and maybe do more research and write about various things that interest me as well help Wikipedia in any way that I can. I guess in a nutshell, these individuals have made me feel unwelcomed. At one point during a live chat, they insinuated that I knew this person. They asked me to reference all my sources which I have done. But I think they are concentrating on one aspect of the person's career which is music. They have suggested I should remove the reference to the newspaper articles written by Christian Today, remove references to Robert's own website and YouTube. I am happy to do that now because frankly, I'm just tired of fighting about editorial style etc. the only reference to the website is with regards to where they are right now. I thought the articles by Christian Today were ok. and Youtube and I must stress there is not a lot on social media about this individual anyway, was to support how far back this individual goes. And I clearly stated that "old recordings have emerged" . I my self had copies of these songs years ago and I have lost them. I am prepared to remove any sources that they may deem unfit. I hope you can advise me as to what to do because I really wanted the reader to experience a taste of Ghanaian history through the eyes of celebrity. Please feel free to read the correspondence between myself and these two individuals. I do not want to make enemies on here, I just want to use my gifts and little knowledge. Thank youCowhen1966 (talk) 14:25, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Cowhen1966 (talk) 15:04, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

You may be interested in a comment on my talk page. If the university is the one it seems to be, we will have obvious problems giving the usual sort of assistance. DGG ( talk ) 23:28, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi DGG}. Thanks's for the heads up. I can only concur 100% with your comment. It also reflects my own underderstanding of corporate notability after having followed all the advice you have provided to me and others on such issues. Occasionally we may have been at odds over one or two AfDs in the past in this series of issues, but that was before I fully understood you excellent reasoning. While I encourage the teaching of the correct use and editing of Wikipedia in institutes of higher learning, I remain skeptical however over the value and ethic of editing tasks being set as formal homework assignments for degree courses. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:56, 17 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
One of the problems, the location of the institution, has now been solved--it's a cooperative project between the Chinese university and the Unviersity of Toronto, and therefore there's a way we can safely offer assistance. See User:Uttsinghuajoint2014/Course Page. I expanded the substantial part of my advice to the talk p. there. And of course I agree with you that it's absurd for a class grade to depend on the vagaries of what we do at WP. The faculty should set the standards for the coursework on its own merit. Depending on us to evaluate people is a little ridiculous. (I believe , in fact, that this is the advice the ed. project gives also) DGG ( talk ) 16:33, 17 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your assistance please edit

I looked at User talk:Sherurcij for the first time in a long time in January, and left four requests for userification at WP:REFUND. In those requests I said if I didn't think the articles had anything worth preserving in them I would place a {{db-u1}} on them. That is what I did with Jamil Qasim Saeed Mohammed. Al-Bashir Al-Faqih I changed to a redirect, then moved the redirect to article space.

My request for userification of Abdel Hadi al-Tunsi was declined, because it was deleted at afd, not prod, and I was advised to direct my request to you.

I will probably find Abdel Hadi al-Tunsi is not notable enough for a standalone article by today's standards. As with the other requests I will apply a {{db-u1}} if there is nothing of value. If there is enough to justify limited coverage in another article, I'll merge that material, and then, like Al-Bashir Al-Faqih I'll change it to a redirect, then move the redirect to article space.

I have not had the chance to check thr threads, but any movement on the great admin debate, etc? Any breakthroughs or positive new concepts on admin selection-related topics since December, when I had to go on Wikibreak? Question edit

Hi. Remember all those articles that got deleted because they dimmed to be not notable because I wrote then from external links (including 2 photographers)? Well, I have an idea, will citing their work make them notable? Like I can't provide online references because sometimes they don't have their work printed out online, but I receive plenty of magazines that I can use for their work, and Wikipedia doesn't have policy against magazines considering that a photographer that works with specific and well-respected magazines such as Smithsonian, National Geographic and others is much notable than an amateur photographer who shoots for himself. Like, I know that online sources are better since they are more verifiable, but sometimes there is nothing but the official site, while the work is in subscription magazines. Another question, do you or any other Wikipedians receive any subscription magazines (just out of curiosity)? Will be glad to receive an advice.  --Mishae (talk) 00:16, 11 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Request for review/mentorship edit

Hi Kudpung, I was just reviewing the discussions here looking for experienced NPPers. When I created my account, I started looking for ways I would like to participate in the project and have traditionally been more interested in reviewing than creating (outside wikipedia). I came across NPP and read all the associated information, studied the CSD/AfD/PROPD pages and relevant policies and guidelines. I saw that it's pasted everywhere that NPP should be left to "experienced users" and knew full well that I didn't fit that category. After reviewing the pages mentioned above I decided to give it a try and try to take it slow and see if I felt out of my league. I've passed over several pages I didn't feel capable enough to mark but have marked several others. So, long story short, I went looking for a place to request someone review [my log] and give me feedback. You mentioned on the discussion above that you occassionally review patrollers activity and provide feedback, so I came here. I feel like I've done enough to allow an experienced NPPer to say "stop patrolling" or "try doing more/less of X", etc. I'll watch here, or on my talk page. Thanks! Conflict edit

Can you help resolve a conflict at Oliver Bierhoff, Michael Ballack, and Mehmet Ekici? See, I added archiveurls and removed whitespace along with it. It shouldn't be an issue since I added archiveurl, right? So, users User:Walter Gorlitz, User:Jared Preston, and User:Jaellee restored the white space and I consider it a disruptive editing. Like, honestly wont you agree that restoring whitespace is as destructive as removing it? Also, somebody pointed me to not use http and https when citing YouTube and Wayback Machine and since I deleted it from my talkpage in 2014 I can't find it. Can you please help with both issues. Thank you.--Mishae (talk) 15:48, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

No need to resolve the conflict Kudpung. Whitespace is not destructive, it's used by many editors, whose edit tool uses monospaced fonts, for aligning content. Several editors, those listed above an anonymous ones as well, have asked to Mishae to stop removing the whitespace but Mishae would rather edit war than edit cooperatively.
Initially, I was adding http: to the archiveurl parameters, but now that Mishae has explained that it's not necessary, I have stopped doing that, but there's really no reason to remove whitespace and add URLs on new lines. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:03, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Original poster should also be aware of WP:3RR. Jared Preston (talk) 16:07, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Although the conflict have been resolved I should point out that no anonymous users have came to my talkpage and that it was them who edited against consensus. Therefore, while I inserted archiveurl and removed unnecessary whitespaces (in sections for example), user Walter Görlitz would come in and insert them back, which in my opinion is disruptive since he doesn't add anything and therefore do it for edit count. I at least, do archiving, which is a huge part of an edit and is improvement to an encyclopedia while user Walter Görlitz is here to toss his marginal opinions at you and edit war with me. If its not hard I would like to hear your opinion on the case, considering that we know each other.--Mishae (talk) 05:43, 24 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Request for nomination as an admin edit

You mentioned that you're the type of person who would be willing to sponsor someone as an administrator on Wikipedia. I tried nominating myself back in 2005 after I'd only been here a couple of years and that was shot down, mainly because I guess it was felt I hadn't taken it all that seriously.

Now, nine years later I think I've gone as far as I can as a regular editor and I think my behavior and the quality of my many thousands of edits and talents indicate I qualify to become an admin. I'll give you some examples.

  • Check almost any page on area codes for the United States, like List of California area codes or Area code 202 and you'll find the map I did for them, which is now using SVG instead of PNG so the map resizes automatically and without blur.
  • Every area code page for North America has a box in it indicating the area codes near to it or in the same state, so someone can navigate to nearby area codes.
  • Some of the area codes Area Code 602, have maps that are marked with a clickmap so you can click on the page representing a nearby area code and move to it.
  • Check out 2013, 2014 and 2015, the first one's first paragraph says "2013 was a" the second says "2014 is the current year, and is a" and 2015 says "2015 will be a". Guess what happens on January 1? Just what it did before when we changed years to 2014. 2014 will say "2014 was a," 2015 will say "2015 is the current year, and is a" and 2016 will still say "2016 will be a," and this all happened automatically through template syntax, it eliminates temporal editing, the page is automatically accurate without manual intervention.
  • Look at the main page for Wiktionary. Do you know why it has an alphabetical index on it? Because I thought of it first, and put it on there (this was back in the days when anyone could edit the main page.) It's become one of the important features.
  • Look at my own user page, notice I have implemented "tabbed wikipedia" where my page points to all of the years I was here and individual years can be navigated to. I documented and streamlined this feature so it was easy for anyone to use on their pages.

This is just some of the things I have done to make Wikipedia a better place, and I think with Administrator privileges I can do more things to make things better. Like, say I have an idea for a really good improvement to the main page, I can discuss that - that is a big change that I wouldn't do without getting a consensus - and if there's no objection then I can implement it without having to beg someone to do it for me. For less important but otherwise protected pages where I can see there is room for a really good improvement, I can just offer it.

But I do think I would qualify and I'd like your input and whether you think I would be worth sponsoring as an administrator. I've asked a couple other people, not to try to play one off against the other, but so that if I'm not up to snuff you or they can give me some input into where I'm deficient. About a year ago I told you my intention of someday becoming a sysop. Although I've been progressing slower than expected, I still think I've come a long way. I have a article that I worked on. I am writing to you so you could could give an opinion on my progress. NintendoFan (Talk, Contribs) 12:56, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I applied for a WM London scholarship. It seems I can not attend this year. I sent an email to them and requested to cancel my application. I have not received any reply. Will you please check it quickly so that the slot gets open for another deserving candidate? --TitoDutta 11:17, 4 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

request for adminship edit

Hi I was an administrator until 2006 when i stepped down after overreaction to a newbie user's political bias. I feel that after eight long years of exile and many thousands of edits, that i have redeemed myself and should be allowed back. Can you help me? Paul Austin (talk) 19:16, 28 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Paul. Just a note that Kudpung last edited nearly two months ago, and we know not why (or at least, I don't). You don't seem in any particular hurry(!), but even so, it may be worth aiming this request at another name on Wikipedia:Request an RfA nomination. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:29, 28 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Oi! Where are you? All the best: Rich Farmbrough22:27, 24 May 2014 (UTC).

I miss him too. —Anne Delong (talk) 22:38, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
We've talked about this at WP:WER. I've tried to contact him 3 times, others have as well. Frankly, I'm concerned. Dennis Brown |  | WER 22:45, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I sense you may be temporarily totally cheesed off with the project. But I am concerned too, whatever your reasons may be. Respect Irondome (talk) 22:56, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
He and I have talked off wiki a fair amount in the past, I am pretty sure he would have replied to me if he saw the email, regardless of how cheesed he might be at whatever. Dennis Brown |  | WER 22:59, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
And his status indicator says "around". —Anne Delong (talk) 23:16, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure how good he was at updating that. Last I knew, he was in good health, but he is a mature man. I worry for his health. Dennis Brown |  | WER 23:52, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Should we escalate this in some way. I fully share concerns expressed. Even if it is "nothing", it is our moral responsibility as a community to raise a concern at some higher level. Better to be safe etc Irondome (talk) 00:01, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
There is no "escalate" that I know of. WP:WER talked about it, several tried to contact him, I've pointed people towards others that knew him. He lives 11 times zones away so I can't pop by his house. Not sure what else could be done. Dennis Brown |  | WER 00:03, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Can we not involve WMF some way? Can we establish contact with Thai Wikipedians. Some may live close. I know, he is often on the road and he may have a WP connection locally. He seems very actively engaged in local projects too. Irondome (talk) 00:09, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I don't think WMF would be interested, they don't get involved with the community unless they have to, or it is part of an outreach, but you can try. I dropped a note to the only person I know that might know someone near him. Dennis Brown |  | WER 00:14, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
What about a posting on Jimbo's page expressing our concern. I don't think that is an overreaction. Irondome (talk) 00:24, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't. Dennis Brown |  | WER 00:32, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Dennis; don't post anything on Jimbo's talk page or AN or anything like that yet. That can only serve to stir speculation, obfuscation, and loss of the central point. Go Phightins! 01:30, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

No, I wasn't going to escalate like that. Just causes DRAMA. I thanked Dennis when he posted this, it was wise. Maybe the WMF email approach, but nothing else. I wonder if Anna is watching this? Irondome (talk) 12:15, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

These sorts of threads are less helpful than most understand. You have no idea how these threads can carry unhelpful comments so easily. Talking about 'Jimbos talk page' and similar is outright dumb. Contact me offline if you want my explanation as to why. I had quite a bit to do with him in person at Hong Kong wikimania last year. I live outside of Thailand, and have had a brother-in-law who lives there (Thailand) just turned up by a flight today... My recommendation is to keep trying offline contact attempts, and shut up and be patient. Adding cascading fears etc here is not useful. satusuro

Just as a quick update; I've dropped him a line to see if he could check in. Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 21:42, 1 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Not to cause needless drama and worry, but you don't suppose he's been in an accident do you?—cyberpower ChatOnline 23:08, 2 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
It is one thing to be concerned, but please don't speculate. Several of us that know him reasonably well are trying to contact him using a variety of means. Dennis Brown |  | WER 00:28, 3 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hey Kudpung, thanks a lot for the congratulations; it wasn't as bad as it's made out to be, at least for me  . Glad to see/hear you're well; hope to see you back on Wikipedia with some regularity at some point, but no matter how active you plan to be, thanks for dropping by, and I hope real life is treating you well. God bless -- Go Phightins! 20:37, 8 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Could you assist? edit

Hi, I PRODed Pimbongkod Chankaew as Only a runner up, not notable. None of the refs state that she will replace the winner - the Guardian and NBCnews say "It was unclear whether the first runner-up, Pimbongkod Chankaew, would replace Weluree as Thailand's representative at the global competition, Miss Universe 2014". This was removed by an IP claiming that reference (http://morning-news.bectero.com/m/main.php?m=newsdetail&nid=19131 - in Thai) says she will represent Thailand. Google Translate, is not good, but I don't see that fact there - but I can't be sure. Could you see if that reference does say she will be representing Thailand? If it's not there, then I'll go for an AfD. Thanks.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:13, 12 June 2014 (UTC) Strike out - I found a nice Thai lady to check it out for me.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:01, 15 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
