Parasite (film)

I just saw your reply to my comment at Talk:Parasite (film), but since it's been archived already, I thought I'd explain my comment here. Halstead, to use one of your examples, is completely disambiguated from, say, London, but it is incomplete disambiguation from Halstead, Kent. For the title to be completely disambiguated it would have to be at Halstead, Essex, but it's fine that it's at just Halstead because it's the primary topic and has a hatnote. That's what I meant by saying every primary topic title is incompletely disambiguated. Station1 (talk) 05:00, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

@Station1: Halstead and London are 2 different topics with different names and both are at the base name even though they are ambiguous. Halstead, Kent is not at the base name but if the town in Essex was moved to Halstead, Essex it would indeed be disambiguated but this is a case where either a topic is at the base name or its completely disambiguated, if there was another smaller place in Essex (say in the Basildon district) called Halstead but we moved the town in Braintree district to Halstead, Essex instead of Halstead, Braintree that would be incomplete disambiguation similar to the fact that Fleet, Hampshire (rather than Fleet, Hart) is partly disambiguated since Fleet, Hayling Island is also in Hampshire. That might be distinct from the US where the state is added due to common name rather than disambiguation where there is Preston, Missouri and Preston, Jasper County, Missouri. Otherwise either a topic is at the base name (like Halstead and Jupiter) or is disambiguated (like Forton, Lancashire and Mercury (planet). Generally I don't think partial disambiguation is a good idea but in the case of Parasite the film gets 99% of the views so might be a candidate.
That's distinct from cases like Holton, Suffolk and Holton St. Mary where the former hasn't yet been renamed to Holton St. Peter even though it is sometimes called that and the Mary one would sometimes be called "Holton" alone its not partial disambiguation. Counties in article names: Wiltshire

Now that Burton, Nettleton, Wiltshire has been moved to Burton, Nettleton, the following should receive the same treatment.

Combe is an article and the rest are redirects.

Wire723 (talk) 12:48, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

@Wire723: yes they should, per WP:UKPLACE we only need the parish not the county as well unless there are 2 Burtons in different Nettletons. This is unlikely to happen with settlements since its unlikely (and if it was we would probably try compass directions first) there will be many such cases but its more common with buildings (especially churches). This is indeed an error that you have probably inadvertently made from other cases having the county incorrectly added. I had thought to point this out to you but never got round to it possible partly because the pages in question were mainly only redirects. See also the open RM at Talk:Burton, Neston, Cheshire#Requested move 3 October 2020. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:12, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Severn

Interesting. I'd generally say "the Severn", not "the River Severn", and I've heard the former many times. I also wouldn't pronounce it like "Seven". -- Necrothesp (talk) 00:26, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

@Necrothesp: "seven" and "Severn" are very similar words even though the former is spelled and pronounced without the "r" I assumed people don't use "Severn" alone because of the similarity even though its unlikely in a conversation you would confuse "the Severn" with "seven". Maybe partly because I haven't spent much time around it, certainly the likes of "the Thames", "the Stour" and "the Eden" I have heard. Crouch, Swale (talk) 08:15, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

Village

Hi, I notice that you've been going around some of the historic villages of the north-east partially removing the term "village" from them. Aside from the cryptic "Not a village", is there a basis for this? Cullercoats, for example, has both a church and a pub which is often taken to be the qualification to be promoted from a mere hamlet. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:23, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

@Martin of Sheffield: Cullercoats is not a separate settlement today even though it probably was once. As you can see its part of Tynemouth BUASD and forms a continuous built up area with Newcastle upon Tyne. Possibly Category:Suburbs in Tyne and Wear or Category:Areas in Tyne and Wear should exist. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:28, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
Perhaps then it would be better to change "is a village and urban area" to "is a historic village and urban area" though to be honest I think you're wrong in this. Many historic villages have been amalgamated into towns and yet retain their village flavour. It's not as if there was a strict definition of village. Are you perhaps thinking of a civil parish? You might find it useful to read the WP entry for Village#United_Kingdom, and in particular note the fourth point: "There should be a clear green belt or open fields, ... However this may not be applicable to urbanised villages: although these may not be considered to be villages[by whom?], they are often widely referred to as being so; ...". Cullercoats and the other places you have condemned fall into this latter category. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:38, 10 October 2020 (UTC) – PS: quoting a German website as an authority on English names is a bit impolitic! :-o Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:40, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
PPS: see the Cullercoats website, particularly the footer: "This is the web-site of Cullercoats Village". Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:47, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
Maybe saying something like "formerly a separate village" after saying area, suburb, part of etc? "Historic village" might be OK but might mean the village has lots of history (relative to others which could be POV). I'm not thinking of civil parishes, those that are in unparished areas such as [Chopwell]] are still villages. Village#United Kingdom does give Hampstead and Didsbury as examples that have merged with larger areas. It also uses Ouston as an example saying that there should be a clear green belt which clearly Cullercoats doesn't have. Note that I'm working on Commons:Category:Villages in Tyne and Wear and adding villages there and removing those that aren't from the category here.
Although not the best sources[1][2][3] do use "suburban area". North Tyneside Council report does suggest (2.1) that while it was definitely once a village its now part of a larger suburban area. Crouch, Swale (talk) 11:03, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

Woughton

Thank you for raising the questions over Woughton. Although your proposal didn't achieve consensus, it was useful in that we all discovered some interesting information.

I think it would now be sensible to delete the current Woughton article (a disambiguation) and move Woughton (parish) to the vacated name. If I do a formal WP:RM, do you think it is likely to be contested? If so, I would rather not waste the time. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 21:43, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

@John Maynard Friedman: yes I think the consensus was that there was a mix-up with the names of the parishes in the OS etc. I would consider moving the Woughton article to Woughton on the Green (and the content from Old Woughton#Woughton on the Green moved there) or perhaps keeping it as it, I'm not sure so I'd start a new RM since given the previous discussions its likely controversial. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:32, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
If it is 'likely to be controversial' then that really means there has to be an RM. We inherited the mix-up: it certainly looks like someone in MK Council failed to do the formal renaming. We have to make the best we can of the resulting semantic gymnastics but fortunately the wp:common names are unarguable.
What I was planning to propose is
1. formally, at Woughton (parish), add the temporary RM tag,
{{subst:requested move|Woughton|reason=The disambiguation is not needed. The [[WP:common name]] of the parish is simply "Woughton", there is no other entity by that name. The village, "Woughton on the Green" is never given without the "on the Green" qualifier.}}
2. Delete the current article called Woughton to make way for move, it is redundant and its function can be taken by the hat note at #3 next.
3 Move Woughton (parish) to Woughton, no other changes
4. Retain the current Woughton on the Green (parish) (a disambiguation article) as it is, no change.
5. Retain the current Old Woughton article as it is, no change
6. Retain Woughton on the Green as it is, a redirect to Old Woughton#Woughton on the Green (the village), no change.
What do you think? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 18:38, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
  • I think I agree with 1, 3 and 5. With 2 (and 6) I'd move that page to "Woughton on the Green" since its already about the "area" and move Old Woughton#Woughton on the Green content to "Woughton on the Green". With 4 I'd decide where to point it and if needed redirect back to the "Woughton on the Green" article, I put the set index tag to prevent it appearing on DPL and you said in you're edit summary that its a temporary DAB. Yes I would say given the confusion/disputes on this it is controversial enough for another full RM. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:52, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, that saves us going round the same houses again to achieve the same effect because I infer 'no consensus' will be the result again: I'll drop it and let the status quo continue.
But just FYIW, in local usage, "Woughton on the Green" is exclusively used to mean the village and there insufficient material about it for a separate article. The parish of that name is extinct in practice though not clearly so in law.
I believe it best to leave Woughton on the Green (parish) as it is, indefinitely. Redirecting to either of the successor parishes would be seriously misleading: if anyone goes there, they need to be made aware that "it's complicated" and not be led into making false assumptions. See also WP:SURPRISE. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 20:59, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
Maybe then redirect Woughton on the Green (parish) to Woughton then? Crouch, Swale (talk) 22:10, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
No, that doesn't make any sense. Woughton on the Green CP has ceased to be, it is no more, it has expired and gone to meet its maker. Redirecting to one of the two successor CPs is grossly misleading, like redirecting Czechoslovakia to Czechia OR Slovakia. You could make it into a free-standing article but you would struggle to have any content beyond the census data. Victoria History and Vision of Britain are essentially about the village. The area that is modern Woughton CP was just farm land, nothing to see here, it's only scenery. Far better to leave it as a disambig for the two or three people a year that will stumble across it. If I didn't think my Borough Council have better things to do with their time right now, I'd put in an FoI request to ask when and how the name was changed and if they forgot, what are they going to do about it. But I do, they have, so I won't. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 22:31, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for your amazing contributions. I've been following your requests at the RMT since more than a week. Keep it up. Sadly, I'm off the system and I don't have page mover flag on this account. Hope someone does it for you. Wasn't it however more better if you had started the draft with the title you requested it to be moved to because there was no barrier in the move? Any specific reason? Regards, ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 19:56, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
@AafiOnMobile: I don't remember but apart from 3 (there is only 1 left) in Suffolk every other AFC I created at a qualified title if the base name was a redirect and then file at RMT. If I submitted the draft at the same title as the redirect there's a higher risk some reviewers might reject as already existing. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:00, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Why do you even need to submit your articles via AfC? You ain't a newbie? I regard it a bad practice that good editors submit their valid articles via AfC... You should just prepare your work either in mainspace directly under any valid title and then file a RMT, or even in draft, and then directly request a RMT. Just bypass AfC. You're enough experienced. Regards, ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 20:05, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Because I'm topic banned from creating articles in mainspace and I'm finishing of my backlog of 1 article a week (since I didn't submit any in most of the 1st part of 2020, see User:Crouch, Swale/AFC) but it will be reviewed at the beginning of next year. Bocking Parish Council

I have been told this:

Bocking was significant in that they were the first parish council to receive a grant of arms. http://www.braintreemuseum.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Bocking-Dolphin-PDF.pdf It was only in use for about six and a half years (granted 23 November 1927) but a minor milestone in civic heraldry. There is a longer explanation of the meaning of the arms in the Chelmsford Chronicle of 11 November 1927.

Perhaps sub-entries on the Braintree and Bocking pages? Jackiespeel (talk) 23:52, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

@Jackiespeel: we don't generally have articles on parish councils, the (former) parish of Bocking is already covered at Bocking, Essex. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:50, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
As I was asked the question - and 'being the first' is sufficiently notable for a mention on the relevant page. Jackiespeel (talk) 11:13, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

'Dorking unparished area'

Hi Crouch, Swale,
You removed my addition of Category:Unparished areas in Surrey from the Westhumble article. In the edit summary you said that Westhumble is in Dorking unparished area, not an unparished area in its own right.
I have been unable to find any official use of the term "Dorking unparished area" (and any occurrence online). It is true that Westhumble adjoins Dorking, but I cannot see how the town can therefore claim that the village is in "[its] unparished area". Westhumble is part of the ecclesiastical Parish of Mickleham, (and Mickleham is of course a civil parish in its own right) - there is no connection in parish terms with Dorking. If you look at electoral wards, then Westhumble is part of the Mickleham, Westhumble and Pixham ward - entirely separate from the Dorking North ward.
Can you provide a fuller explanation of what you mean by the "Dorking unparished area" and provide a citation that places Westhumble within it please? Thanks and best wishes Mertbiol (talk) 19:59, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

@Mertbiol: the Commons category says it was in Dorking Urban District (which is now an unparished area[4]). Unfortunately I can't verify this for sure because Vision of Britain is down so I will check when its up again. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:08, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
@Crouch, Swale: Sorry I don't understand the relevance of Dorking Urban District, which ceased to exist in 1974. Surely if Westhumble is a separate settlement and is unparished today, then we should use Category:Unparished areas in Surrey? Mertbiol (talk) 20:13, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
See the article unparished area, if you look on UKBMD it tends to say something like "unparished area that until 1974 formed the district of X" for unparished areas. The definition of "unparished area" is this in most cases similar to the fact that only a named civil parish is put in the "civil parishes" category as opposed to every place that is covered by a civil parish. The only way it could become an unparished area in its own right is if a parish was formed in between Dorking and Westhumble that separated them or if Dorking became a civil parish but Westhumble wasn't included in the parish. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:23, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Crouch, Swale. There are no citations for the definition of "unparished area" in the unparished area article - which seems very surprising. I do worry about making policy on categorisation on this basis. I would really want to see some sort of official use of the term "Dorking unparished area" to mean "unparished area that until 1974 formed [part of] the Dorking Urban District". (Mickleham and Brockham were also part of the Dorking Urban District, but are now Civil Parishes in their own right - the historical relevance of the Urban District in these cases is moot.)
Thank you for explaining your reasoning. Mertbiol (talk) 20:43, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
The UKBMD source says for the Dorking entry "Abolished 1.4.1974 to become part anunparished area." See also the discussions at Commons:User talk:Skinsmoke on unparished areas. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:34, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. I think you are overplaying the importance of Civil Parishes in identifying what constitutes a settlement - I am not the only to hold this view, judging by the discussion here. To say that Westhumble is part of Dorking, because it was part of an Urban District that was abolished in 1974 is utterly illogical to me. Without doubt, the vast majority of those reading this encyclopaedia would feel the same way. Mertbiol (talk) 21:45, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
I am not using it as a way of defining the settlements but with unparished areas as Skinsmoke has noted they are often how people identify places but obviously this isn't always the case. Westhumble is part of the unparished area but not part of the town its self. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:52, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
But you have done exactly that. You changed Category:Mole Valley to Category:Dorking. Why would you place Westhumble in the Dorking category otherwise? Mertbiol (talk) 21:55, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
The category Category:Dorking in this case is for the unparished are not the town, its standard to have a category which contains both aspects see Category:Stanhope, County Durham for example which contains places outside the village. Crouch, Swale (talk) 22:49, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I disagree. This makes no sense. Westhumble is a separate settlement to Dorking. It is not appropriate for Westhumble to be in the Dorking category. The non-parished status is irrelevant. I will revert your change. Mertbiol (talk) 23:17, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
If it is indeed in the unparished area it should be in the Dorking category (VOB is still down so I'll check later) but that is standard for a category to be for a settlement and wider unit so it should be included in the Dorking category. Crouch, Swale (talk) 12:16, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

The 'Dorking unparished area' is a term that you appear to have invented. I cannot find any use of it anywhere. Stanhope Civil Parish has official status and is recognised as such - that's absolutely fine, you can categorise on that basis. But you cannot invent a term, based on an association with an Urban District Council which ceased to exist in 1974. This is utter madness. Mertbiol (talk) 13:42, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

It is used by sources as provided above. Unparished areas were created during the 1974 local government reorganization. Any county borough, municipal borough or urban district which was not succeeded by a "successor civil parish" became an "unparished area" under the terms of the act. Crouch, Swale (talk) 13:53, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
No your sources don't say anything of the sort. You need to provide a source which explicitly uses the term 'Dorking unparished area'. All you have done is explain that there is a part of Surrey, formerly part of Dorking Urban District, which is unparished. You have then decided to call this part of the county the 'Dorking unparished area' and claim that for the basis of deciding categories on Wikipedia, its borders have the same status as those of a civil parish. Mertbiol (talk) 13:59, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I have just been through the 1972 Local Government Act. There are no provisions, still in force today, which pertain to unparished areas. In particular Schedule 7 has been repealed by subsequent Acts. The relevant legislation would now appear to be the 2007 Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act. The 2007 Act merely states that an “unparished area” is an area which “is not a parish” and “is not part of a parish”. (What constitutes an ‘area’ is not defined.) It does not say that the unparished area should be named after the former Urban District. It is impossible to conclude that the ‘Dorking unparished area’ has any official status whatsoever - quite the contrary. In fact it seems perfectly reasonable to refer to a ‘Westhumble unparished area’ under the same part of the Act. You have mentioned Vision of Britain several times, but this is only runs up to 2001, so would appear to be irrelevant for the purposes of the 2007 Act. Mertbiol (talk) 14:44, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
If there is no definition in subsequent acts then it would be reasonable to assert that the old definition would apply, I haven't actually found the text the act says about unparished areas myself (just like the areas most of the districts were formed from doesn't appear to be online) but I'm taking Skinsmoke's word especially since sourced like UKBMD does use this, although it doesn't appear to list Dorking that well it does for most places (assuming its been updated) for "Braintree & Bocking" defines it as "Unparished area which until 1.4.1974 formed the parish and urban district of Braintree & Bocking."[5] similarly for Hoddlesden it defines it as "Unparished area created 1.4.1974 out of the unparished area of Darwen." since in that case "Darwin" unparished area existed with those boundaries from 1974 when the district was abolished but in 2009 Darwen parish was formed but it doesn't include Hoddlesden[6] therefore it essentially became an unparished area in its own right. Note that VOB doesn't define unparished area but it shows what units a place is/was part of. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:32, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
"If there is no definition in subsequent acts then it would be reasonable to assert that the old definition would apply" - no this is not true - this is a point of legal principle. You cannot pick and choose which parts of an Act remain in force and which don't. You would be laughed out of court if you suggested this. The 2007 Act repeals Section 7 of the 1972 Act its entirety - end of discussion.
"I'm taking Skinsmoke's word" - not a reliable source.
"UKBMD does use this" - no it doesn't. (It doesn't define anything - it has no authority to do so.)
What you need to provide is an official document from a local authority, which shows that the term is used today - you haven't been able to do that.
I therefore ask you not to use these unparished areas as a basis for categorising settlements. There is no legal basis for doing so (as shown by the Act currently in force). You are placing too much emphasis on Parish Council boundaries in your edits - please rethink your approach. Mertbiol (talk) 18:46, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
The 2007 act says an unparished area is an area which is not a parish and not part of a parish. It also says a parish can be formed "by aggregating one or more unparished areas with one or more parished areas". Since it uses the term "one or more unparished areas" that does suggest the act has kept the point that an unparished area is a named area rather than merely an area that is unparished, if it didn't it probably wouldn't have used "one or more" though that could be in cases where 2 unparished areas are separated by a parish. The UKBMD does use the term "unparished area" and its reliable as long as its been updated like it has for Hoddlesden. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:11, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
No, sorry you can't do that - again you would be laughed out of court for doing so. The Act explains how you can form a parish, but does not say how you form an unparished area. You are trying to define that which does not legally exist - please stop.
UKBMD is not a reliable source - it has no legal authority to define anything. You need a local or national government document. The fact you cannot find one (in these days of transparency when so many official documents are published online) should tell you that you are barking up the wrong tree here. Mertbiol (talk) 19:32, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
UKBMD seems a reliable enough source combined with the previous act that apparently did define them, see also the Successor parish article. Maybe you should take the entire Category:Unparished areas category tree to CFD though a similar CFD failed on Commons as no consensus. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:48, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I'm not going to engage any further on this. The burden of proof is on your shoulders - you need to provide a local or national government document which explicitly says that the 'Dorking unparished area' exists as a legal entity of which a village like Westhumble can be a part. UKBMD is a historical source, as is VOB. Again the 1972 Act is superseded and did not define an unparished area in the way that you would like it to. You are not reading what the documents say - you are reading what you would like them to say.
With that I wish you a Happy New Year and constructive editing in 2021. Mertbiol (talk) 19:59, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Well I have provided some sources, I'm not sure government documents are needed UKBMD seems somewhat sufficient, I'm going by what sources like UKBMD say and what has been said on Commons. I you still have a problem with the definition I'd use CFD here unfortunately Skinsmoke hasn't been active since 2018. Happy New Year to you to, thanks. Amendment request: Crouch, Swale closed as declined and archived

The Amendment request you filed (Amendment request: Crouch, Swale) has been closed as declined and archived. A permalink to the now closed amendment request can be viewed here. As the amendment request was declined you can next appeal on or after 1 January 2022.

For the Arbitration Committee, Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 20:42, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

@Dreamy Jazz: Could you have another look at the appeal please? While everyone appears to have rejected the proposed action several have said/suggested that they would be happy to replace the 1 AFC submission a week with 1 creation a week, otherwise as suggested it should have been to also revoke the 1 submission a week, thanks. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:36, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Several arbitrators on clerk-l asked for the request to be declined and archived. As there was no motion to amend the sanctions on you, this means that the appeal is declined without modification. I cannot modify on my own volition sanctions placed by the Arbitration Committee (instead I can only modify sanctions placed by the committee on behalf of the committee after a motion with majority support is enacted). The decision to keep the 1 creation a week through AFC instead of 1 creation a week was made by the arbitrators asking for the appeal to be declined / closed. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 22:02, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
@Dreamy Jazz: What about the suggestion I made to revoke the 1 AFC submission a week namely "The request for modification of Crouch, Swale's restrictions is declined furthermore the ability to submit articles to AFC is also revoked"? Since that would be a tightening of the restrictions would you be allowed to make that amendment? I believe by now the AFC is no good and a timesink to everyone so should be revoked, thanks. Crouch, Swale (talk) 22:09, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Crouch, Swale, I cannot modify those restrictions or any restriction placed by the Arbitration Committee without their approval via motion. My clerk hat only allows me to act on behalf of the committee on their authorisation. This is regardless if I tighten or relax the restriction. That authority rests with the arbitration committee.
In theory I may be able to impose it as part of a WP:CONDUNBLOCK, and community consensus could impose it. However, these would be separate restrictions. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 22:16, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
But, if you believe that AfC is no good, then the easiest way to deal with this is to not submit articles to AfC. A ban shouldn't be needed if you don't want to submit articles there. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 22:18, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
I'll just file a new amendment then. Crouch, Swale (talk) 22:32, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Why would the committee tighten your restrictions? As DJ points out, if you don't like AfC, then bam, don't use AfC. No need to have 20 people look at it to tell you the same thing. If the committee wanted your restrictions tighter, they would have been made tighter in the first place. Removing your ability to submit via AfC is simply procedural, and thus a waste of time, if you aren't going to use AfC anyway. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 23:11, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Why wasn't that made at the previous modification? And I believe requests for tightening can be made at anytime without the 6 months or year wait. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:05, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
Crouch, Swale, no arbitrator felt strongly enough to propose a motion to relax your restriction at all - including myself. I can tell you that your regular appeals with no apparent understanding of what has changed are not helping matters - which is why we extended the appeal period to 1 year.
You are right that requests for tightening can be made at any time. However, a formal request for tightening would be considered petty. Instead, why not follow CaptainEek's advice and just stay out of that area?
Or if you like, I can unilaterally restrict you from AfC. Don't post there. Of course, I have no authority to do that, but I've done it anyway. Consider yourself restricted. Noting that to remove this restriction, you should state that you will not be following it, or simply, edit AfC. The restriction should be enforced by Crouch, Swale only, who may block himself from Wikipedia by turning off their PC. WormTT(talk) 14:43, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
I really don't see the point in the AFC anyway I thought it was simply something that would result in relaxation of the restrictions but since it hasn't worked we might we well just remove it anyway. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:06, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Henham, Suffolk

Hello. If you've got a draft of this, feel free to throw it my way and I'll see what I can do with it. I was wondering whether or not it needed an article and sort of got to the conclusion that it's probably quite small - there really isn't anything very much left of it beyond Henham Park these days. I suppose from a historical perspective it might make it worthwhile - I'll see what I can find in the historical directories perhaps. Let me know. Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:39, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

@Blue Square Thing: the draft is at Draft:Henham, Suffolk which as you can see is quite different to the park! And per WP:GEOLAND defunct legally recognized places are notable. I also noted you had started a draft for Hulver Street in you're sandbox. Crouch, Swale (talk) 11:50, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Ta. I think that's probably viable: I'll look at the historical sources at some point as well. The Hulver Street bit was just a placeholder for the infobox so I can C&P it as required. I was considering an article there, but I'm not sure which way to go with it - it's actually generally known as Hulver in these parts. Needs a touch more research before committing either way I think: I don't think it was ever a parish and has no church etc... (there's a Meth chapel iirc). Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:21, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Its claimed to be a parish at Blything Hundred but I can't find any evidence of this though it does have a stated population of 293 in 1870-72[7]. Interestingly "Henstead with Hulver Street" parish was once called just "Henstead", compare[8] with[9] but I can't find when it was renamed. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:25, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm getting nothing very clear either. It seems to be described as a hamlet of Henstead. The lack of a church probably stops it being a parish - the renaming is presumably because Hulver is where way more people live compared to Henstead. It wouldn't surprise me if it was something to do with the Sotterley estate - iirc there's some thought that there's a deserted village forced out by emparkment somewhere on the estate; Hulver seems a likely spot for people to have set up home as a result - but work on DVs in Suffolk is very limited (compared to Norfolk anyway). But that's entirely speculative based on the way it's spread out along the road and the proximity to the estate.
There may be something in the Beccles museum archives I suppose. Maybe once the virus mess is over I might remember to look. Gut feeling is that dealing with what we know in the parish article for now might be the best option Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:20, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
The source gives "1841 Census" in the hundred article with no link or other source. This makes note of there being 29 parishes and the hamlet of "Hulverstreet" though I'm not sure that's a RS. Maybe I'd just note its a hamlet in a footnote?
Being an OS settlement and having a stated population may be enough for an article though I'm not sure and as you say it maybe could be covered in the parish article until you have more. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:29, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
@Blue Square Thing: Thankyou for created St Nicholas South Elmham, I have merged my draft there. I have a list at User:Crouch, Swale/Suffolk of missing parishes (and other things) in Suffolk and most of the former CPs have a draft, Dallinghoo Wield might be interesting, the draft was deleted but I can ask it to be restored if needed. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:27, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks - I don't think I knew about the list, so that might be useful. It's be a while before I get to the Ufford bit of the district, so perhaps keep an eye and then let me know again when I might be in that part of the county. Thanks for the ping. Blue Square Thing (talk) 10:35, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

Calstock Parish Council

Did you start a merger discussion for Calstock Parish Council? I can't find one anywhere. Considering I was the person who added the 'notability' template, I'd have no problems with a merger myself... Sionk (talk) 13:32, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

@Sionk: I didn't start a discussion because there wasn't much sign it would be controversial and someone could have opposed on the talk is they disagreed but since they haven't I think we could go ahead and merged. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:37, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
I've performed a merger of the basics (most of the content was 'padding'). Sionk (talk) 16:39, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Merger debate participation request

Hi Crouch, Swale. Hope you are doing okay. Could I ask you to please take part in a debate on the Middlesbrough Talk page regarding an editor claiming we should merge the borough article with Middlesbrough despite Darlington and Hartlepool having only some suburbs having their own article for a borough. To them Middlesbrough shouldn't have one. Could you please reply to them and give an additional opinion. I feel it works to a have borough page as it does exist given Middlesbrough was county borough and there is a borough council. So in theory a borough does exist. Just not noted or been looked at. I would hate to see the article merged and wasted on the basis of one opinion. I have also posted in the talk pages of Darlington, Hartlepool and Stockton and the Admin Noticeboard so. I would appreciate your input on the debate and hopefully reach a quick census to keep it. As it gives the wards in Middlesbrough and council makeup unlike the town page and it covers the borough not just the town. So I feel imo it works to have two articles then one with lack of coverage. Look forward to your reply. Regards RailwayJG, 17 February 2021, 20:45. (UTC)

Iranian abadis

Hello. please see the discussion at the AN, before removing PROD tags. 4nn1l2 (talk) 09:53, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

@4nn1l2: the articles have a census population so as far as I can see they pass WP:GEOLAND even though some of the articles created by the same user, in the US may not. I object to all of them and I can't see anything about them that suggests they don't pass GEOLAND, all of them have a stated population that is referenced and there is no requirement that a stated population is above 0 though all of these have been. If you want all of them deleted you should probably have proposed that via the discussion at AN rather than prodding them which can be removed by any editor. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:03, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
I followed the links to Google Maps and some look like they would be described as hamlets if they were in the UK, but at least one, Mazraeh-ye Aqerk, had no coordinates. I found it under a different spelling, and apparently it is only a farm. Peter James (talk) 14:52, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
At the very least they should be discussed at AFD but clearly these aren't similar to a single well or petrol station. Crouch, Swale (talk) 14:56, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
We can talk in any AFD but it is user time wasting only, Because of we are Perisan in Iran and check and prove it easily it is not village. They are not known in Iran too. Shahram 10:39, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
@Peter James Even its spelling in Persian is mistake, There is no "عقرک" in perisan. But its real word is "عقرب" which means "scorpion" and "مزرعه عقرب" means Scorpion breeding farm. it is not village. Shahram 10:37, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Input on a recent deletion nomination

Hi Crouch, Swale. I have nominated the Heavy Woollen District page for deletion as it seems to use unreliable sources and would be better placed in the Kirklees and Wakefield District pages as there is a political group but no official website for the heavy Woollen District as it is supposedly called. Would you be able to input on it please. Cheers RailwayJG (talk) 10:48, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

@RailwayJG: I wouldn't be surprised if there is enough sourcing out there somewhere for an article but it could maybe be merged into West Yorkshire since its in 3 districts so merging into 1 wouldn't be a good idea however I would consider deleting Category:Heavy Woollen District completely since even if the article is OK I'm not sure it should have its own category. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:29, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

I agree with you completely I live in Batley and have never heard up until now of this so called district. Just the cricket team and that's it. RailwayJG (talk) 18:25, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Regardless of whether the article get's deleted I'd try deleting the category. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:27, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Crouch Swale thank you for your input. Could you by any chance watch the article for a brief while as an anon removed the deletion nomination and I revert it as no consensus was reached. I'd appreciate your help and support with it. Cheers RailwayJG (talk) 22:22, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Would you be willing to mark the article for deletion by any chance Crouch Swale? Cheers RailwayJG (talk) 22:25, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Crouch for doing that appreciate your support RailwayJG (talk) 22:37, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

  • @RailwayJG: do you think that its worth nominating Category:Heavy Woollen District for deletion? Although the article survived AFD many of the concerns there would probably apply to the category given that generally we don't have articles for informal regions even if an article is able to exist since they're difficult to define. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:08, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
  • @Crouch, Swale: I think that could be another try to see if we can get it deleted or at least re discussed yes. Would you be up for nominating it as I don't know how to. But I would agree to thatRailwayJG (talk) 18:39, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

@-noah-: The submission has sources for a population and name origin as well as for a pub. As far as I can see the sourcing seems fine and a stated population from a census as well as a name origin suggests its notable. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:40, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
I agree, it is notable, but the sources weren't really news and the pub source is primary. If you can find one or two more sources (doesn't have to be news) then I will accept. Noah 💬 17:53, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
