Hello edit

How are you? Why are you not talking to me? And how come you now don't get any messages? I think your talk page was secretly protected... LOL... ShahidTalk2me 19:35, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm OK, how are you and what were you doing all this time? ShahidTalk2me 19:39, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeh you're right actually. I see now your oppose and find it completely justifiable. It is not comprehensive. There is some kind of psychologic misleading that if such a short article is nominated there must be a reason to it and editors tend to see the opposite... ShahidTalk2me 13:10, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Look Blof I have a lot of respect for you, but I won't tolerate you insulting me like this. And please don't call me "self-obsessed", I find it extremely offensive. I'm just fed up. ShahidTalk2me 13:19, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK bye I really didn't expect that from you, it's not my fault that this article is up for FA. You cannot talk to others about me and calling me like this. You always do that, I just can't believe - I can't get you, didn't I say I agree with your opinion? I'm going ShahidTalk2me 13:25, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry am not interested to discuss it further. When you get rid of your ridiculous anger and calm down we'll talk. Just stop making fun of me in front of other editors. I think I should've quit after the first message. Mmmm one message seems to have been sufficient.... The joke would have been much more effective... ShahidTalk2me 13:49, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm really sorry... I should have taken into consideration what you were going through. Please forgive me. I planned it to be lenient and relieving.... Well it was apparently blown out of proportions. I may really be a bit self-obsessed LOL!!!!! ShahidTalk2me 13:53, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, but looks a beautiful place. What about it? ShahidTalk2me 13:56, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. edit

Blofeld:

Thank you for taking the time to read my Eduardo Sívori article and for your feedback. You're very kind.

I've been contributing for a few months and have, from time to time, noticed your edits. You are among the few consistently impartial and constructive editors on Wikipedia, I'm sure. I can't tell you how much pettiness and unprofessionalism there is surrounding entries of Latin American subject matter, in general. Some editors seem to bear huge chips on their shoulders regarding certain matters, particularly race (witness the changes ad nauseum to the ethnicity table in the "Latin America" page). All of this is par for the course in life, I suppose; but don't let anyone ever tell you it doesn't go on here on Wikipedia.

Again, thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you again.

Cheers.Sherlock4000 (talk) 22:28, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dmitry Nikolayevich Smirnov (footballer) edit

As per WP:ATHLETE - Competitors who have competed in a fully professional league are notable. Russian Premier League in soccer is fully professional. Thanks!

Geregen2 (talk) 15:42, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Cool, thanks, I see your point. There's not too much to tell about the vast majority of professional athletes in most leagues though, other than "he joined this club on this date and he plays midfielder", and that information is already covered in the infobox, it seems useless to repeat it again in the main body of the article. Every AfD for athletes I've seen references WP:ATHLETE and the criteria for Keep or Delete in AfDs are just that- "played in the professional league" or not. I have not seen an AfD where a professional athlete's article would be deleted just because the article about him or her is not "big enough" (and . It probably would be a good idea to have a separate SportWiki, but as long as WP:ATHLETE stays the way it is, I don't see why not add stubs (somebody someday might add something). As to external references, I will provide those in the future, was too hasty, sorry.

Heartthrob edit

Hi, Blofeld. I'm going to delete Heartthrob, which you created after moving Heartthrob (Angel) from that location. You may not have known that there was a previous AfD discussion which resulted in a consensus to delete the page when it existed much as it does now, as a dictionary definition for "heartthrob". Under criterion G4 of the speedy deletion rules, any recreation of material which was deleted per AfD can be speedily deleted. I'm just letting you know as a courtesy. If you would like a copy of the material to work on in your own user space, let me know and I'll provide it for you. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 02:07, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree completely. I vaguely remember it was red linked on numerous articles, if I remember correctly it was about the reception of the film and the subsequent popularity of an actor with women. Definate redirect to wiktionary is appropriate but I ought to have been told about the deletion anyway The Bald One White cat 11:04, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I found various links to "heartthrob" as in movie star, and changed them all to wiktionary links. After the deletion, I moved the "Angel" episode article back to Heartthrob. Glad it's not a problem. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 19:13, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Film split edit

Hi O Bald One - Don't be too hard on him - like several of us who have been working with stubs for a long time there's the occasional feelings of being overwhelmed by the work. I know I can be less than polite with people who charge in and suggest different splits if they're not the way I think they'd work best. If anything it just shows he's passionate about it (I've heard it said here before that if editors lose their temper with each other every now and again it's actually a good thing, since it means they've got a passion for the project). In any casxe, I suspect you just caught him on a bad day - don't take it as a stinging criticism. Grutness...wha? 11:34, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps simply working by language rather than by country would have been a better option. I know what you mean about trying to work out the "nationality" of a film - it's a problem we have here in New Zealand a lot, being a small country with a prominent but US-funded film industry. Mind you, even splitting by language would be a problem (one of my all-time favourite films is Wings of Desire, which has sections in French, German and English). Seriously, articles relating to Asia are scarce so are everything except American subject. Every piece of US TV show characters are created at any minute but many valuable information are missing. That is what "volunteer" means though. I was surprised to know that even French-related articles are very a few than English subject. English Wikipedia is called "American's open dictionary" by people. Hmm.. as for amounts of articles, Chinese/Japanese project have 15,000 and 16,000 articles, while Korean/Vietnamese/Thai project only have 6,600/4,500/4000 articles respectively. It is shame that article of Goreyo celadon , perhaps the most applauded art outside Korea does not even exist in Wikipedia. Japanese article has more articles than any other projects pertinent to Asia, but most of them are tilted to Animation/cartoon,samurai/military subjects. Many of vietnamese articles are related to Vietnam War as well. --Caspian blue (talk) 17:19, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

It would be cool if we could use the source code on the bot ourselves. I know next to nothing at this sort of thing but I could probably learn. Or we could use country-specific bots, like the Eubot or that bot that created all those articles on towns in India. the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review) 20:42, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for articles about places of Nepal. I had created these same articles in Nepali and Nepal Bhasa wikipedia about 2 years ago. One thing which I would like to suggest about articles like Amalachaur is that unless they are specified as municipalities or sub/metropolis, these are referred to as VDC or village development committee or simply villages and not small towns as you have instilled in those articles. So, I think correcting that would make these articles even better. Thank you.--Eukesh (talk) 21:05, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think it would be faster and convenient if you could run the replace.py (or something similar) or ask some bot owner to run the code. I will try to expand these articles but I know very little about most of these places. --Eukesh (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Couldn't agree more. Perhaps you could ask User:Fritzpoll yourself of the real need to start these article? P.S you don';t need to know anything about the places personally, there must be sources available in Nepali either online or in a library which could be used to expand them? The Bald One White cat 21:14, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I have some sources in Nepali (almost like encyclopedia about Nepal). Maybe translating them can be of help. By knowing personally, I meant that I could upload some pictures of these places as well!--Eukesh (talk) 21:24, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The way to request the translation of an article from another Wikipedia is here. Now, if you keep the stub you already created, others may wind up turning it into an article on their own without regard to the Japanese version, and then there may be two sets of people working at cross-purposes with each other, them and the translators. If you post this article on the requests for translation page, do you want to delete the stub in the meantime and wait till the translation is ready?—Largo Plazo (talk) 15:11, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Any help you can give filling out the others would be much appreciated! Cheers The Bald One White cat 14:01, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the note. It didn't take much time to write a DYK-eligible article for the Egyptian Geological Museum from the eight words that had been the entire article ("Geology Museum is a museum in Cairo, Egypt.") I don't doubt that many of the others would also be reasonable targets for expansion. I will try my best to take a look through the list and expand some of them. Translations etc. edit

Sorry to drop out of sight like that. I started a new job back in late August, and haven't had the time to do in-depth work like I'd like. Certainly not translating - while I enjoy it it takes an awful long time to do one article, and I can't afford that for the moment.

Two questions for you - one, how's the geobot project coming, do you know? Haven't seen anything in a while. Secondly - I'm thinking about proposing some changes to the translation request process, as I think that the current system doesn't work nearly as efficiently as it should. What I'd like to see, eventually, is a complete list of articles in all wikis that require translation into English, separated by pages so that people who want to can come and look at them. There are a couple of such pages now - including one on the Missing Articles Wikiproject - but they aren't that comprehensive (I was pulling some stuff from Russian to request; I found over two or three hundred articles that I've never seen mentioned in English.)

Here's my proposal; there are bots, apparently, that can be used to add foreign-language links to English Wiki articles. Why not make a bot to troll foreign-language Wikipedias looking for articles that don't have an English equivalent? Then they could be collected into one database and made ready to go.

What do you think? Does it sound good?

--User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:13, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

In that event, I'd be in favor of something similar to what's supposed to happen with the Geobot - once the list is made, people should double-check notablity and weed things out before preparing a translation. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:20, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well given the number of users on the project, I don't see why we wouldn't be able to set up a WikiProject. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 17:06, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
You want a project with a huge number of editors? Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places - there's a ton of editors working on those (including me, from time to time.)
Maybe I'll work up a proposal this weekend and see where it takes me. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 17:12, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
It would be very nice, yes - unfortunately, I doubt a really good translation program exists for now. Human translation will have to do. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 17:24, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Article aesthetics edit

I prefer not to add cast/character sections in film articles because I already cite the cast members in the Infobox and in the Plot Summary -- repetition doesn't make sense. For illustrations, I prefer to use the best looking artwork (best looking to me, at least). While this may not sit well with those who are sticklers for guidelines, I am actually thinking about the people in the real world who come to Wikipedia in search of information. We are not impressing them with repetitive data and unattractive artwork. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 17:21, 10 October 2008 (UTC) :P.S. Please do not revert edits that I make on my own Talk Page. That would explain it, then. Excellent work on your translations, by the way.

I think I do, yes. Let me run a set through AWB and see how that works.

OK, looks like I'm going to be able to finish it after dinner.
If I may be a bit thick and ask a favor in return, would you mind doing some work on Virginia navboxes? I'd like it, ideally, if every county box in the Category:Virginia_county_navigational_boxes looked like Template:Madison_County,_Virginia - you can use this website to figure out what unincorporated communities belong with each county. Then I could go ahead and fill in the missing articles using AWB, and we'd have another state done. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 21:09, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's OK, then - I'll just put them in the boxes myself. With AWB, it won't take any time at all to fill the redlinks.
And yes, the disparity between disciplines bothers me a lot, too. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 21:24, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I wish there were more bots at work here than there actually are - there's a lot of work could be filled in that way.
I'll tell you another thing, too - a lot of the people I know, well-educated, employed with the government and similar entities, have almost no understanding about Wikipedia. They view it either as some kind of large joke, or merely as some sort of weird game that people like me play when we've nothing better to do. And if they feel that way, think how the rest of the population must think. People just don't want to take the trouble to get to know anything about the site.
Anyhow, I'm off for a walk - I'll finish the Colombian stuff once I get home. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 22:42, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
...no I won't, either. I screwed up, and it'll take a little time to fix it, and frankly I'm not in the mood. So I'll finish it all up tomorrow, then. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 00:53, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adding stub templates edit

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but convention according to WP:STUB is to place stub templates "at the end of the article, after the External links section, any navigation templates, and the category tags, so that the stub category will appear last." --Paul_012 (talk) 10:53, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jeez, sorry for trying to point out a guideline you didn't appear to be following without preceding it with loads of praise. Yes, I do appreciate your efforts in tagging those stub articles. I just thought that, in the case you were unaware, it would be beneficial to inform you so that subsequent edits wouldn't cause stub categories to appear first, which, as some editors, me included, think, is somewhat a hindrance in navigating articles by category. No, it is not a gross misconduct or disruption of the community. Your opinion is perfectly valid; Just thought I would ask. Sorry for asking though. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:06, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Overreacted? edit

I beg your pardon, did you just say that I overreacted? And that my actions (or even lack of action) are motivated by pride? That strikes me as deeply ironic.

I refrained from replying because the response that I would have made would seemed likely to have simply sparked off a further round of melodrama. Please, quit poking. Alai (talk) 14:01, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

And yet, you keep poking. I wasn't in a mood then to deal with this sort of stuff, I'm not in a mood now, and I wish you'd take the hint and leave it alone.

I can see how you might have been somewhat miffed. What I don't see is the need for this sort of dramatic escalation, proceeding from the apparent assumption that you're a gravely injured party, and need to have your feathers smoothed over. You don't exactly take a "kids gloves" approach to civility yourself, so it's a bit rich to demand it of others. Alai (talk) 14:16, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Uploading Pics. edit

Hi B.

Second Question,

On my trip through Germany, Hungary, Ukraine and Poland my “car dome”, an digital high-speed camera connected with my eye sensors made about 10,000 pics how I can upload these pics for Commons. When I do it in the way Commons ask I’m 10,000x5/60= 833 hours busy! The old man is all ready death before he has uploaded all, he wants to travel more! Is there a quicker way to do this? Now it’s more a jail therapy!!!

re:Mexican maps edit

Location of Cancun within the state

location of the state within Mexico

Excuse me but, the state maps with municipalities more appropriate and add precision since they detail the location of the city/town within the state; putting a pin map would be like putting a pin map to locate Los Angeles, United States instead of a map of California.

BTW, thanks for creating the articles for some of the missing municipalities, I've also done some of that before. Supaman89 (talk) 20:10, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

But following that logic mate, then why put a Canada map showing the provinces since "most people are clueless" about the subdivision of Canada? (some people even think they’ve got states). To be honest if you ask me (or most people) "Where's Ohio?" I wouldn't really know, so why don't we just put a pin map to locate Cleveland within the United States as well? It’s all about being fair mate, cheers. Supaman89 (talk) 20:17, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can I but in? Including both maps (national, w/pushpin, and muni within the state) is definitely helpful, at least until we can get state (or at least regional maps) for pushpinning. But we have to cater to both publics: those who know where Colima is, and those really not terribly sure about where Mexico is. Aille (talk) 20:38, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Exactly, articles on Mexican towns should have two maps. One showing where the town is in Mexico and the other, the dot where it is located within a municipality of a state. This would seemingly cover it all, but what my problem was, was that I had seen Superman adding a redundant general state map in Mexico or a map of the municipality where was unecessary, particularly at the expense of the national map. If you kept the national pin map and just added the dot state map I would be perfectly happy. It was the removal of the national locator that was the problem which I had been working through standardizing everythingBlofeld of SPECTRE (talk) 20:23, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I had written a message but when I sent it the page had being edited and I lost it, anyways I'll start again.
Of course city articles should have 2 maps, one showing the location within the State and the other showing the location of the state within Mexico (which is what I'm doing), it's pretty simple. But putting a pin map showing a dot somewhere in a Mexico map is not detailed enough. But if work so fine, why don't we start putting pin maps for Canadian cities, what do you think? Supaman89 (talk) 20:49, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The difference is that Canadian places have a proper pushpin map using coordinates for each of the provinces, and there are relatively fewer of them. Mexico has 31 provinces, and not only doesn't have any sub divisional proper pin map, it is not in the "western" world where people know where the provinces are and you;re making extra work for myself by tampering with them. For the Cancun article the top map you;ve placed here should be used, but with the national map underneath NOT the generic state map. Blofeld of SPECTRE (talk) 20:55, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

We have to create pushpin maps for the Mexican states, once we make them we would have to include both (the mun-loc and the sta-loc). One thing that I think is wrong about Canadian and American cities is that they only show a State/Province map and the rest of us have to wander then on earth would that State/Province be, it'd be helpful it there was a location of the State/Province within the country, that's why the State location has to be shown so the rest of the people will know where that state is located within the country. Supaman89 (talk) 21:21, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

A few months ago I finished the ones in the Tamaulipas template, so I guess bit of extra work for the other templates wouldn't hurt, right?, adios. Supaman89 (talk) 21:42, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lol, no mate, I didn't make the Tamaulipas template, someone else did (AMAPO to be precise), but all the links were empty, so I had to create all the missing municipalities, which were quite a lot, adios. Supaman89 (talk) 01:21, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

State templates edit

Nice work, Blofeld! They look really nice. Comments: the statecapitals link goes to List_of_capitals_in_the_United_States (presumably you'll have to create a separate Mexican template to avoid that?); and I prefer the wording "Municipalities and towns" (per Aguascalientes) to the "muni / cities" option w/ a slash. Maybe it'd be more accurate to put "Municipalities and municipal seats", but I dont know if that's unnecessarily technical. Of course, just putting "...and towns" exposes them to the pedants that'll point out that a lot of them are cities.

Agreed that the munis & seats should have separate articles (but, in the absence of an all-out creation effort) perhaps redirects are useful meanwhile. I might not be too active over the next few days, but I'll join in the effort when I can. Best, Aille (talk) 20:38, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ukraine etc and pics. edit

Hi B.

When I’m driving around with my car and dome I speak directly in what I see and GPS tells me where I’m, so that’s not a problem. I can even upload from out the car to Commons when I want, using a voice device what is changing my voice in printable letters. A connection with Google maps is also possible. But I need a quicker way then the “Home version from Commons”. I’m making now a special program for to that so I can quicker launch my pics! I think Wiki has not such a device for me.

And what you think from the new version from:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anastasiya_Markovich

When the Prime minister of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovich is happy with her, Wikipedia is not happy?

Hi Blofeld, long time since we've been speaking. I've only been checking in the odd time when I can, to see how bad a state my watchlist's in! Hi BoS - to be honest, I don't know enough of the way film stubs are organised to be able to say. I'd suggest the best idea might be to propose it but make it clear that you are open to alternative suggestions for splitting in other ways (e.g., by genre) if they're preferable. Hi Blofeld. I'm a bit tired of Gabon-related articles as one may expect, and I need to do something else. Are you still planningt to work on 2003 Bam earthquake? ~one of many editorofthewikis (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 20:33, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I guess you're right. I usually do get bored of one topic fast so I switch to another one. In this case it took a bit longer than usual but now I am downright sick of it. I basically took Gandjout to FAC to test longer short articles (unlike Space Science Fiction Magazine). The part about the coup was not to bulk it up really, but rather to provide some context as to what is happening during this time. I can't believe there wasn't a bit more about Gondjout's role in the coup, but oh well. I guess because I spent so much time on the Gabon series that I took offence to well-meaning comments. I still think there is now no problem with the sourcing, and if this should fail it should be because of comprehensiveness instead. Yes after quickly glancing through Google News results there is A LOT of material on this earthquake, not to mention scholoarly and book sources! I'm testing a new referencing style on Bam so please bear with me! :) ~one of many editorofthewikis (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 21:26, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Infoboxes on stubs edit

I know I've bothered you in the past about your place stubs, but your recent ones such as Guthu look very nice. One request on these is that the infobox not be so huge. When creating these articles you include every parameter of Template:Infobox Settlement, many of which are unnecessary for these articles. These empty parameters bloat the articles are a majority of them do not even exist or are known for the place and will never be filled. If they could be added in the future, the relevant parameter would be added at the same time. It is unneeded to have 96 infobox parameters of which only 17 are filled in. Today is the 1st time in the long time that I've been able to do some wiki-ing. I've done a lot of editing for the Tenerife article in the past. I'd say that overall the Canary Islands articles range from poor to middling. --Polylerus (talk) 23:07, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nice work on those! Yes, I have faith that it can be brought up to FA standards. The island has a rich and varied history. --Polylerus (talk) 23:45, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Polylerus. The reason I don't like working on articles like this is that they are very broad in scope, compared to events (1964 Gabon, 2003 Bam) or people (Gondjout, M'ba) or towns/other geographic places (Nki). Accomplishing such a feat is awesome. Check out Bam - I've barely ventured beyond the BBC archives! I am confident 100 kb+ of material can be written on this. Can't wait until I'm finished, when I won't have to re check the sources! Hi there Blo. of S. Just to note, the text of this article transposed from the equivalent in es.wiki does not appear to have been originally written for wikipedia, but instead looks like it ultimately came from the museum's own website (see talkpg). I presume you copied it across from es.wiki with the intention of translating it, but I think that even if translated it'd end up with a copyvio/attribution concern. For now, I've commented the text out, until such time as it can be rewritten (and not just translated) without being derivation/reproduction of external text. 1798 in India edit

Many thanks for proposing deletion of this article, seconds after I had started it. It is not an empty article and is a stub, to be developed and added to. That is the purpose of stubs - immediate deletion allows no development of articles. I am currently going through Indian people by occupation adding their details to new and older articles in the Years in India series. There will be more entries to follow for 1798 in India if the article is left to be added too. Please understand the stub principle and remove this deletion proposal forthwith. Ardfern (talk) 13:07, 18 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

With regard to Nav template, I already did this for Northern Ireland and much of Ireland and don't much feel like having to find a suitable (politically correct) map for India and having to add template to hundreds of articles all by myself. Putting content into Years in India is higher priority for me just at the moment. But feel free to have a go yourself. Ardfern (talk) 14:38, 18 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Have asked BrownHairedGirl, who originated the YearsinIrelandnav template, for some help on the way forward for Years in India and Years in France (which I have also done substantial work on). Will keep you advised. Ardfern (talk) 15:48, 18 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Commune bots edit

Yeah, I understand exactly what you're trying to do. In fact, back in January I suggested a bot to create French copmmune articles (we hadn't gone on that stub creating spree yet), add infoboxes and demographic information to them. The proposal went nowhere, as most do. If this indeed gets approved (you probably have a better chance at it - at that time I was barely registered for two days) I just don't want a bunch of useless redlinks to the French name of an arrondissemant or canton. ~one of many editorofthewikis (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 15:46, 18 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Anastasiya Markovich article edit

Hi Blofeld,

I have rewritten parts of the article from Anastasiya Markovich. I think it will be ok that we let a smaller part from: “Culturally influence of her living town Chernivtsi” in the article. The reason I mentioned now also in this part of the article. It’s likewise Montmartre in Paris where many artists have studios or worked there. Ukraine people need still a Schengen visa so they had there own “Montmartre”! The article is in my sandbox: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Labbert%C3%A9_K.J./Sandbox

When it’s ok now let me know and I move it.

With regards,

Karel J. Labberté

Azerbaijan edit

Yes, I've already picked up an image in commons from one Azeri article. I'll do the tying after doing the ref's I'm working on now. Very time consuming. I'm also hatnoting the few places that fall into the "no info about" category - nearly all of which have old spellings or Soviet names and are likely to be found among the bunch of places that are documented in Azeri sources but not at WP. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:06, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looks OK now: I'm guessing there was a jobqueue lag, as sometimes happens when category-populating templates are edited to retarget them. Occasionally they seem to "fall off" the queue entirely, and they have to be fixed with null edits, but it seems to have (mostly or entirely) caught up now in this case. I can fix by bot if you notice any such cases where they haven't caught up within, say, a day. Good luck with the rest of Asia! Alai (talk) 17:16, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I wasn't really trying to put weight on "trophies" at all - I'm just trying to create the best possible article. Really the readers don't care at all who wrote the article, just that is is somewhat well written, comprehensive and most important correct. I agree there are a bunch of really good B-class articles but I know a bunch of people who only trust Wikipedia articles if they are FAs. Heck, if I wanted to create the most FAs I would have joined the tropical cyclone project, where literally 3/4 of the content is copied from a public domain source. I guess I really should take a break from the Gabon-related articles for a couple months, but I just wanted to give it a second go, to see if the problems wih the first nomination were resolved, just as Gondjout was to test if really short and uncomprehensive articles can be considered "our best work". I'll be withdrawing. ~one of many editorofthewikis (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 20:26, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I should upload one to show you, if only I was a better photographer and actually knew how to scann images to the computer! Hi, buddy, how you doing? You must be sleeping right now. I think the picture would not be a featured picture because it is a little underexposed and not sharp. African topics for further perusal edit

I was trolling across the net the other day and came across the Dictionary of African Christian Biography; it looks like it could be nicely mined for subject matter. There's also the Database of African Independent Churches and Leaders, which could be interesting. And the Eliot Elisofon Image Archive at the Smithsonian Institution should have a lot of free images of interest. Sure - give me a list and I'll see what I can do. If I have the time, that is - I've picked up a little extra workload now (per request - I'm sick of sitting around the office with my thumb up my piano concerto all day). But I think I can manage a few stubs here and there.

Withdrawing bot edit

Blofeld, this is really awkward to have to write, but I'm now unable to continue work on GEOBOT. My problems are partly of time, given that I shall shortly require more time off-wiki to undertake thesis-writing, but also of sheer organisational issues. There are no reliable sources forthcoming to extract the data from - I looked over the Afghan data last night, and the coordinates just don't seem to match up, and I can't verify some places within the lists. I have no confidence in the government data alone, and there are no sources available. We are also low on manpower - I can write the bot, but I can't search for sourcing material as well, and there is largely just you. Noone else opened up any subpages for country data, and you and I can't do this alone. For these reasons, I'm withdrawing my bot from use in GEOBOT until such time as we can get more sources together to verify the information, and get more people involved in providing them. I know this will upset you, and I'm very sorry, but that's what I've been forced to conclude in the past 24 hours. The project can succeed, but not if we can't get a source where we can automatically extract the data. Best wishes, Fritzpoll (talk) 10:11, 23 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey... edit

Hey buddy, how've you been?

You see Zinta's new film Heroes released today. The reception was overwhelming, and the story is quite complicated. This is about two guys who are studying filmmaking. Because of their poor score in film studies, they are asked to submit a documentary project as their one last chance at graduation. So they travel on their motorcycles across North India to deliver three letters to the families of three dead soldiers as part of their graduating project for film school. These letters were written by army-men to their beloved and did not get posted eventually. The story follows their journey of meeting these people. It unfolds in three episodes, each of which features different characters (who are related to the martyrs). Their interaction with these simple people changes their life substantially, as these two guys belong to the upper level generation of India, and they witness the real life of simple Indian people and that's how these simple people become heroes and inspire them. Zinta acts alongside Salman Khan in the first episode. She is portrayed as a war widow who is bringing up her kid single-handedly. She drives a tractor, works a physically difficult work and takes care of the entire family. That's why she is one of those heroes.....

So now, how would it be written in two sentences? I find it so difficult and I have no time.

Here is my draft which has other versions in the brackets. I need your writing skills now:

"Zinta next starred in Samir Karnik's Heroes, a road movie about two final-year film students who, as a part of their film school assignment, travel a thousand miles (or: across North India) to deliver three un-posted letters of army personnel (or: martyrs of the 1999 Kargil war) to their families (or: three letters to people, who could not make it to the armed forces.). The film follows in three chapters their journey of meeting these people and how they get inspired from them. Zinta is featured in the first chapter as Salman Khan's war widow, Kuljeet Kaur, a woman who becomes the sole breadearner of the family and single-handedly strives to bring up her son (or:...Salman Khan's wife, Kuljeet Kaur, a woman who becomes a war widow and takes it upon herself to bring up her son and support her family). For playing the role, Zinta attended Anupam Kher's acting school to learn the dialect and body language of a Punjabi woman."

??? Shshshsh2 (talk) 18:58, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Or: a road movie about two final-year film students who, as a part of their film school assignment, travel across North India to deliver a letter each to the families of three dead soldiers.... Shshshsh2 (talk) 19:10, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Agree. Daniel Day-Lewis and Halle Berry are examples of not so impressive GAs. Oh, Audrey Hepburn was a fantastic actress. She was a beautiful woman and an amazingly stylish lady. She is one example of an actress who must have a FA on WP, along with the brilliant Joan Crawford (she was so damn brilliant an actor) and Kate Hepburn. Shshshsh2 (talk) 20:10, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the instant help, Mr. dear Blof. I like your copyedits very much, particularly the part of Zinta's role's description. But here it seems a bit confusing to a reader who does not know the topic:
"travel a thousand miles across North India to deliver three un-posted letters written by army personnel during the 1999 Kargil war to their families. The film follows their journey in three chapters and how they meet and are inspired by these people." - my bad, that's quite ambiguous...
I thought of "deliver a letter each to the families of three dead soldiers" because it makes it clear that the soldiers are dead, but then it isn't clear who wrote the letters.
Then "Their journey" - the first question is "whose journey? The people's or the students?" - that's why I thought of "their journey of meeting these people and how..."
?? Shshshsh2 (talk) 20:31, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, the letters had actually been written before the war began... Shshshsh2 (talk) 20:36, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Much better.... LOLZ! Only that we have to tighten it and get it as short as possible. Howz that? "...a road movie about two final-year film students who, as a part of their assignment, travel a thousand miles across North India to deliver three un-posted letters written by army personnel who lost their lives during the 1999 Kargil war to their families. The story follows the journey of these students in three chapters and how they meet and are inspired by the soldiers' families." Shshshsh2 (talk) 20:42, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fine? And is this sentence particularly written well: "The story follows the journey of these students in three chapters and how they meet and are inspired by the soldiers' families."?? Maybe it's good to add hmmm... "trails" between "and" and "how"???
Forgive for annoying you, but you know, except for John, you're the only one I can rely on when it comes to writing. It's a FA you know, everything has to be added and edited carefully. Shshshsh2 (talk) 21:09, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK it's not really accurate here and quite unclear to both of us. But thank you very much for the help. I myself don't really have time to bother you too much. Finally I'm going with that:

Zinta next starred in Samir Karnik's Heroes, a road movie about two final-year film students who, as a part of their assignment, travel a thousand miles across North India to deliver three un-posted letters written by army personnel who lost their lives during the 1999 Kargil war to their families. The story unfolds the journey of these students in three chapters and follows how they meet and are inspired by the by the familys of the soldiers. Zinta is featured in the first chapter as Salman Khan's war widow, Kuljeet Kaur, a woman who becomes the sole breadwinner of the family and single-handedly raises her son. In preperation for the role, Zinta attended Anupam Kher's acting school to learn the dialect and mannerisms of a Punjabi woman.

Thank you, and if you see any problem please let me know. Nothing should be overlooked. Regards, Shshshsh2 (talk) 22:54, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
And when exactly did I turn to Giro for that? Only once, after the FAC because there was one unclosed topic which I wanted to clear. But anyway, he really has good writing skills.
Hey that's a difficult question.... How many??? Hmmm something like two-three thousand. Shshshsh2 (talk) 11:01, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well I've seen parts of Alam Ara, just out of curiosity and it was quite idiotic.

The 80s decade was on the one hand good because art cinema and parallel cinema came to its peak during this period, and some of the greatest films of Bollywood were produced. But on the other hand, along with this wave, it was the poor action era because of many B-grade terrible films of superheroes in silly scripts. It should be noted that it was actually the time when westerners got notice of Hindi films more often, and that's why they can only see this poor side of the industry. They are stuck with this image. The 1990s was a great decade, maybe because it was the time when I saw films of my generation. Today, I dunno, many good and articstic films are made, and many of the commercial flicks are great, but 45% of what I've seen this year (so far) is crap. Shshshsh2 (talk) 13:38, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hey no you're not wrong you're absolutely right. And you were extremely precise also. 1985-1995 was the most terrible period of Hindi cinema - although there were some amazingly good films in between, they are considerd nothing in comparison to those dreadful scripts. Shshshsh2 (talk) 16:29, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I caught you now editing one of the articles I created, and I suddenly realised how much I miss this practice of mine, creating articles. But I have no time. :( Shshshsh2 (talk) 17:40, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
LOL why would you do something bad? You've done nothing wrong (you added a template of Bollywood on Pyaar Ka Mandir (such an amazing film!)), and it is not the matter now, I wanted to say that your edit reminded me of all the articles I'd created and I suddenly miss creating articles... Shshshsh2 (talk) 17:46, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ughhh edit

This coincidence is somewhat scaring. Just today I told you of the image westerners have about Indian cinema - that it's ridiculous and stupid. And look, Zinta's Canadian film Heaven On Earth released today. And see what a strange way to praise Zinta this idiotic critic from Exclaim! finds:

What nonsense???????? Shshshsh2 (talk) 18:37, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think this critic he is the brainless here. If he doesn't know who Zinta is and is unaware of her body of work and film roles throuhout her ten years as an actress, why would he bother to comment on it? I think it was malicious and out of place... He just utilised her role in this film to diss Bollywood and spread his POV all over. He is surely unaware of Zinta's work if that's what he thinks she had done before. And he doesn't even try to use his brains a bit: Deepa Mehta is a respected Oscar-nominated film-maker... If Zinta's chief tasks were all about "look pretty and lip-synch convincingly", why would someone like Mehta have cast her? That's completely insulting because it's not even criticising Zinta's performance, but scathing in terrible generalisation Indian actors, even if it's incorrect. I understand if some talkbacker of those 98% who don't know what Bollywood is in the UK, but you are a film critic, you are excpected to be somewhat more intelligent and hide your idiotism... Shshshsh2 (talk) 23:11, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
WOW so amazing and relaxing....!! Heyyyy Zinta won the best actress award at the 44th Chicago International Film Festival!!!! Shshshsh2 (talk) 20:27, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

RE:Central Asia images and Agriculture articles edit

Hi, good to hear from you. First, Central Asia images: I have not uploaded much after the first massive salvo that you instigated, because I have not noticed much interest or traffic in these photos. Still, I have beautiful market scenes and food photos from recent trips that may be worth uploading. Unfortunately no mountains, lakes, or long-view shots of cities that you like. Can you give me a list of categories in Central Asia that badly need photos? Then I will see what I have.

Now to agriculture articles. I have substantially updated and expanded your Agriculture in Armenia. Have you seen my changes (from September)? Today is the first time that I hear about your Agriculture in Georgia (country): I have just now opened this article and I will check if I can usefully update it. Agriculture in Tajikistan is in a decent shape after my contributions, and so is Agriculture in Uzbekistan: is there anything specific that you want me to add in these two? I am dabbling (on and off) in Agriculture of Russia, but this is probably hopeless. What I should really work on is Agriculture in Azerbaijan and maybe Agriculture in Turkmenistan (here data a serious problem, of course). Tell me what you think. Best, --Zlerman (talk) 15:14, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm doing great, thank you. What makes you think I'm being uncommunitative? I'm just basically working on Hubert Maga - it looked like this before I arrived. Liberia looks great, I always love it when new data becomes available for these countries. We should probably focus on Nepal I think ~one of many editorofthewikis (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 18:43, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I know compare Africa's coverage to that of the Doctor Who wikiproject or American sports teams. It really is revolting. In my opinion the mainspace should be about as large as all the others combined. Countries like Benin are so underdeveloped probably because editors like Acntx have migrated to other areas. You can always admire Everyking, though - do you know why he was desysoped in the first place. But also it cannot be overlooked how little there is available - there is practically nothing available on Maga online, I'm lucky that I have a book on coups on my lap. I think Maga can be expanded to DYK or Good article status or even FA if Nishkid can send me some old newspaper reports. After achieving DYK I will probably switch back and forth between Bam, Maga and nepal. ~one of many editorofthewikis (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 19:31, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Main Page redesign edit

Hi Dr. Blofeld, I'd like to make a request and respond to some of your concerns.

  • First off, please stop creating alternate versions of my design. The straw poll is to determine the top five original designs that have been in progress since July. The methodology behind it has been discussed at length and new proposals have been closed. This kind of input would be more appropriate in just two days, when the process of merging and improving the five designs begins.
  • You say I am not open to "input from the community addressing valid concerns". Please take a moment to see edit history of my proposal. The design has changed almost entirely multiple times throughout its course, thanks to input from pages including here, the archives of here and here. I have actively requested feedback multiple times, and in almost every case a user tells me there is a problem, I ask for more details on their talk page, something I have been praised for above. The dramatic changes in the proposal's history are certainly not just a change in my personal preference over time; indeed if the design reflected my personal perfect Main Page, it would look very different.
  • My "canvassing of hundreds of people" as you describe it, was solely to promote the poll and was a clearly non-partisian message. The users I messaged were found to be either highly involved in the project or involved in existing discussion of the Main Page, therefore making it targeted. It created a substantial increase in discussion, and in fact, my personal ranking in the poll has actually dropped since so I am disappointed at your accusation.

Please don't make sweeping judgements at a project you have started at very late. A lot of hard work and time has gone into this from all the contributors involved. I hope you continue to stay involved with the Main Page redesign in future. Kind regards, PretzelsTalk! 22:55, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Exactly, in which I appreciate your efforts and actually I have been involved in the discussion, but quite infrequently for months and was one of the first people to comment. However, I see nothing wrong with making suggestions and to provide a glimpse of how your version would look without icons and minor adjustments which many people have stated they don't like. I'm not "accusing" you of anything but your mass posting did seem quite pronounced. As it concerns the main page I agree that as many people should comment as possible, but you must see how people might be suspicious about vote stacking, even if you are purely innocent. Dr. Blofeld 23:02, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

There's nothing wrong with trying out alternate versions to describe why you're opposing etc, but you mustn't add it to the straw poll. I understand mass posting is often linked to vote stacking, but my design had the most overall support before I promoted the poll, and it now does not. Also, I only promoted it via talk pages halfway into the poll, because I could see not enough people knew about it and the poll would have less validity. Thanks for your concerns. PretzelsTalk! 23:10, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy worse. And Joe the Plumber isn't a registered plumber and his name isn't even Joe! He basically told Obama that his taxes would rise because he makes more than $250,000 a year. The Republican attack machiene immediately jumped on the case, claiming that Obama verbally attacked Joe and trying deperately to get elected on November 4. This really has nothing to do with pigs and hockey moms and lipsick and pit bulls and Alaska and plumbing and change and maverickness and (insert U.S. election phrase here) but how's socialised medicine treating you? Back here in the states we have to pay obscenely high costs for doctors visits, but McCain is always saying that with free healthcare doctors get told where to go by bureaucrats who also decide how much healthcare we receive. Andrew Sachs edit

Hi. Thanks for providing a reference for your claims on Andrew Sachs. I am a little confused by your edit summary though,[1] "reference infor about sachs not pressing charges. please don't remove this again", as you appear to have dropped the unsourced assertion that a crime was committed in favour of an a sourced assertion that he would not be taking the matter up with the police. I removed your initial version of the sentence[2] as it appeared to be incorrect, unsupported by any reference and in direct disagreement with several other sources that suggest the action was immoral but not illegal.
If faced with similar unsourced claims that breach the biographies of living people policy in the future, I cannot offer you a guarantee that I will not remove such unsourced claims again.
Once again I thank you for providing the revised sentence that is now supported by a citation. Regards. Road Wizard (talk) 22:50, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I was looking for the reference in which I had clearly seen him express this but before I had the chance it was rmeoved. I guess it is a hot page right now so anything added needs complete verfification immediately. Still can't find it. There was an clip on The Guardian website I think in which he stated it but can't find it now. Ah well. There have also been many sources which have claimed that leaving offensive and disturbing people by phone is against the law on grounds of anti-social behaviour, which is why many papers have stated that the police should be involvedDr. Blofeld (talk) 22:55, 30 October 2008 (UTC).Reply
