Fausto Klinger (footballer, born 1976) edit

Have we stopped notifying article creators about AFDs then? GiantSnowman 19:06, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello GiantSnowman. I'm sorry - I don't think I've ever notified an article creator about an AfD (although I think most of the articles I nominate are created by retired users). I'll look into the process for notifying, and be more careful about that in the future. All the best. Jogurney (talk) 20:58, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's standard but not mandated - just courtesy! Thanks, GiantSnowman 21:57, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ian Lake edit

Hi there. Did you get a chance to search for SIGCOV for Ian Lake (footballer)? Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 15:20, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Robby.is.on. I couldn't find anything other than match previews and match reports after checking Malaysian and Trinidadian sources. Nothing that would be significant coverage. Jogurney (talk) 15:48, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's a pity. Thanks for looking. Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 15:51, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Local/routine edit

Given this, this, and now this, I'm wondering if we need to add more explicit guidance to NSPORT about local/routine coverage, since clearly NOTNEWS and the language already in NSPORT are being ignored... JoelleJay (talk) 16:49, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ugh, and this. JoelleJay (talk) 16:56, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi JoelleJay. I think more clear guidance at NSPORT about what constitutes SIGCOV would be very helpful. I've been participating in AfDs for a long time, but I still feel like I'm learning and I know a lot of participants in athlete biography AfDs seem to struggle with what counts as well (as we are seeing in those linked AfDs). Most of us weren't concerned about the GNG when the SNG's presumption of notability was valid, but now we all need to know. Jogurney (talk) 22:21, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's a very good point; before the RfC the only people really doing source analyses for notability were the delete !voters at AfDs for criteria-meeting athletes, who had to go above and beyond to demonstrate GNG wasn't met. Now that the sport-specific guidelines are no longer presumptive, many of the editors who used to !vote strictly based on SSGs are just using those deprecated criteria to define what is SIGCOV (as epitomized by the rapid evolution of KKL's !vote rationales from late February till now) even though it should be the other way around. Not to mention the various criteria the sports projects developed were always supposed to be calibrated to GNG, and yet a) these criteria were often wildly out of line with the larger community's idea of SIGCOV, and b) a lot of the athletes excluded by SSG criteria whom project members would summarily !vote to delete pre-RfC had received exactly the type of routine coverage now being cited as counting toward GNG or NBASIC by those same members. I think this is why it's so important to get input from people outside the sports projects, to ground our guidelines in concordance with broader community consensus. Ideally, the SSGs would serve only as exclusionary guidance on what doesn't count as SIGCOV, e.g. sports coverage would be contextualized through the lens of NOTNEWS/GNG/etc. by editors familiar with the topic to clarify what is routine and explain how to identify non-independent/secondary material (many non-sports editors don't realize that transactional reports, interviews, and profiles by affiliated bodies aren't compliant with P&Gs; see the Amanda Dennis discussion for example). JoelleJay (talk) 00:59, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think there's a lot of confusion right now, and everybody would benefit from a discussion there. For example, I understand that blogposts generally cannot be used, but there is the case of pt:Milton Neves who has a blog hosted by UOL, Que fim levou? - A biblioteca do futebol brasileiro. He is a prominent football journalist, and I understand that his blogposts can be used because they represent journalism similar to something published in a newspaper. There is much to explore. The Sakama AfD? edit

I feel like I'm genuinely missing something here... Is there some source everyone else is seeing that I'm not? A single sentence in one local source announcing a trial with Tahiti for him and another player, 1.5 sentences in a match preview from PNG, scattered namedrops in match recaps...when have these ever been considered close to SIGCOV? You and I have agreed in almost every AfD (and I guess technically do in this one too), so I would really like to understand where you're coming from! JoelleJay (talk) 17:47, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

I went with !weak delete because I received a lot of hits when I searched Sakama on the VDP website, many of which are in Bislama. I didn't have an easy way to machine translate Bislama to English, but bislama.org has a passable translator which I've now used on several of the hits. It's clear to me now that the VDP articles are routine coverage (match previews and match reports primarily). I'll update at the AfD now. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 18:43, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for reconsidering! I've been using a combination of Google Translate for Krio (fairly similar to Bislama) and en.glosbe.com, which has a bunch of Bislama-English translations of what seems to be a large corpus of religious texts. It doesn't directly translate words/phrases but rather searches for instances where they are used, so you can sort of figure out what specific phrases mean in particular contexts. Plus there are a lot of cognates with English that become much more apparent if you sound out the Bislama. I've actually had quite a lot of fun trying to translate some of this material... Unofficial Tottenham Hotspur taskforce/project edit

Hello, myself and another user had the idea to try to get a taskforce/project going so Spurs fans can all focus on similar articles or just keep tabs on what other editors are working on.

I made the project on a userpage here and welcome you to add whatever is of interest to you, and we can always add more pages as we need to.
