Hi, in response to WP:VPR#Return under new username, I suggest you do the following:

• Log in as User:ACEO and post an edit here confirming that this is your new username
• Copy and paste the contents of the page User:ACEO onto User:ACEOREVIVED and perhaps add in details about how you have changed accounts
• Make the page User:ACEO redirect to your new account by replacing the whole page with the text #REDIRECT [[User:ACEOREVIVED]]

If you like, I could help you with the second and third steps, but you will need to do the first step yourself. Bear in mind, however, that this will not reattribute the edits from ACEO to ACEOREVIVED, and the page history of the userpage will also not be transferred. If you would like any of this to also be transferred, then you will need to carry out a different method. Category pages

You are incorrectly populating the category page Category:Critics of Freud. Putting the category at the bottom of the article is what places it in the category. Then you have to go to the category page and place a parent category or categories in it (such as Category:Psychology), to connect it to the category tree. What you did creates an infinite loop. Note my use of the leading colon to prevent this page from being put into the examples shown here. --Blainster 23:05, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Ageing

Yes I believe it was I who removed that paragraph. It had stood for a while unsourced, and was off topic from the main thrust of the article. The article is about ageing and is trying to be culturally diverse with it. But 'traditional medicine' beliefs are out of the scope of this article IMO. --Monotonehell 00:06, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

I accept your apology. I'm sorry as well because I got a little touchy; I rarely ask questions for clarification out of fear that someone will make me feel stupid, so I took it a little more personally than most in that situation. Thanksgiving (Canada)

Actually, according to the Britannica link at the bottom of the article, though it moved around before, Thanksgiving in Canada has been set to the second Monday of October ever since 1957. But, after verification, since your book is from 1977, it turns out that the second Monday of October in 1976 was October 11. If it's a book made for young readers by someone in the UK in those days, I imagine the only fact-checking done for this bit of trivia was to look at that one calendar.--Boffob 19:58, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

BPS category

I've just suggested here that Category:Wikipedians_in_the_British_Psychological_Society, as a professional association rather than a club, might better be kept, as a subcategory of Category:Wikipedian_psychologists, rather than deleted outright (who knows - it might grow!). There seems to be an assumption that categories should serve to bring together people with common interests, and small categories won't serve that purpose well. But I see such a category as useful, in one sense, because it is small. Hi! I'm working on criminology articles, with some work on the social learning theory page. I linked Julian Rotter and saw there was no page... only a redirect. So, now there is a page for him. I notice the good work you have done on the locus of control page. You are better capable of filling in that section of his biography, if you have the time and are interested. Otherwise, I will try. Thank you again for helping with the article. Regarding the question, is he still alive? I cannot find any evidence otherwise. He is listed as emeritus faculty at the University of Connecticut. [1] Also, I searched New York Times archives and Lexis-Nexis to make sure. Where 1987 comes up in my searches, I think that is when he retired. In 1993, he wrote an autobiography piece, which is listed in the "further reading" section of the article. If you find otherwise, then okay. Regarding WP:DYK, it is for new articles. (5 days old or less) Look on the "Did you know" section on the Main Page for examples of how it works. More examples at Wikipedia:Recent additions We could suggest something like,

"Did you know: ...that Julian Rotter developed the locus of control theory, which has been widely used in the psychology of personality?"

Thank you for the help with the article I started recently (January 2008) on Frederick Madison Allen. I did not have a lot of information about this man, but wanted to start the article to avoid a confusing wikilink in the article on diabetic diet. It was good of you to increase this article and to add some sources, and I see that you come from New Jersey - did this man work there, or in Massachusetts, or in both? I have read different things in different sources! Also, I think you put in the wikilink to Elliott P. Joslin - I did not know that there was an article on him, so thank you for that. • I was able to find a great deal of information about Allen from articles in the New York Times. The Times has made almost all articles from 1981 on and some articles from before then available fro free to all. As a subscriber, I can also view a limited number of pay articles per month. Allen was covered extensively during his heyday, including coverage of the opening of his clinic in Morristown, New Jersey. He was also discussed extensively in an article from a few years ago that I had remembered reading where I had first heard of this starvation diet. I hope that helps. Religious programming proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals

Two points. One, if you yourself would like to do some of the work regarding these subjects, it would help to add your own name to the list of interested parties. Two, it would help if you were to perhaps a bit more clearly define the intended scope of your proposal. Would it be, basically, dealing with broadcast media religious programs, like radio and television, all broadcast media, including podcasting and internet broadcasting and videorecordings, and the like. Also, would you be limiting it to simply Christian programming or programming of all religions. The latter point is important, as it would determine which particular religion project or projects it would be a "child" project of. It would probably be a joint subproject of whichever media project(s) and religion project(s) are appropriate, but it would help a lot to have a slightly clearer definition of the scope of your proposal. Agreed. I know that in the US some programs like the Sacred Heart Program have been on both TV and radio, so that does name sense. But in that event, we should try to spell out in the proposal that the group is intended to deal with radio, TV, and, mabye, for all I know webcasting and the like. Respect within passion

I am curious after reading the paradox of passion as to where respect fits in. Some forms of passion have the aspect of love-hate. Obviously love would include respect if it is true love. but the hate side is debatable. Paulo Coelho article

Yes, I noted the "criticism" dates from early on e.g. link to 7 December 2006, that the paragraph was tagged early on for references e.g. link to 19 January 2008, and that these requests were removed with the ref to the fable by Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav, which did not answer the requests for references to criticism, and amusingly pointed to an author who also borrowed the same story. I am not very familiar with Paulo Coelho's work, but I am an unconditional fan of Borges (along with Kafka, my favorite authors). Borges used the same story (probably taken from 1001 nights), yet I see no "criticism" of his borrowing (nor for that matter is there any criticism of Nachman of Bratslav borrowing.). The paragraph under this light just seemed very opinionated, so I boldly deleted. No doubt, as is the plague to all authors, there exists criticism on Paulo Coelho, but this is best dealt with references to the criticism, not with what looked suspiciously like the opinion of an editor of wiki. Thank You for getting in touch with me. Actually, I am an American. Korean internet pages are practically unreadable for me -- not only because of the language but because of the busy-ness (pop-ups, redirects, flashing and scrolling notices etc.). Some years ago I worked in the IT department of a large university's library. Part of my work was to make the German and English pages as user-friendly (including readable) as possible. We never allowed some-thing as visually messy as the opening lines of so many Wik articles. As a language teacher, I also have learned how difficult it is for non-native readers to understand a text that is complicated by sloppy hand-writing, extraneous marks and SCREAMING colors and sizes. Village Pump Discussion

Thanks for your message. With the ten comments I picked out, numbers 1, 4, 5, 7 and 10 were useless and inappropriate. Number 2 "I have noticed that Wikipedia is a rather culturally biassed encyclopeadia" is a valid point. Numbers 3, 6 and 9 were argued from the US side but were also valid points. I could not resist adding number 8 because it is what I have been trying to say. These criticms are all only my opinion of course...

This Article page is very important for when Carl Gustav Jung published his "Answer to Job", Father Victor White responded by writing to Jung and the co-respondance went on for some time. The letters were lent to some students at some Universities. And not published! The family of Jung only published the Red Book (Jung), last month. These letters are very much saught after, by Jung's followers. Hence, to delete this Article would be a retrograde step.

The one who deletes these pages is not aware of the significance of Carl Gustav Jung and of the letters.

People who have little or no expertise in a field should not make these decisions and cross over into other fields. Either study the subjects properly or leave alone. I constantly come across this problem in Wikipedia. I make a point of not deleting another's work. I ask questions, and request comment but seek the original entrant to change. It is a better policy.

Father Victor White 3

The name of the article page has been changed from "Father Victor White" to "Victor White (Dominican)". This I have objected to on the grounds that the correspondence occured because he was a priest and trained in the Classical Theologies and Thomistic Theologies and Philosophies, The Dominican Brother would have a very different training. This change is foreign to the article page. Do you agree?

Thank you for coming back to me on this. I feel very strongly that the article page should be as it was: "Father Victor White" not "Victor White (Dominican)" as the relationship Jung/White was as Father Victor White not as he as Dominican.

I am studying The Answer to Job and the Book of Job again but will no write on the article page if this error is not corrected! I feel that this step is an error and needs correcting.

Jung: Political views

In the article page of Jung at the paragraph called: Political views, an editorial note has been placed to say that this entry has too much imbalance and leaning to one side or the other. To me I cannot see evidence of this and said so in the talk page where someone has justified this entry.

What do you think? Is it unbalanced or maybe not fitting to the heading: Political views?

Thanks for the message. I was not aware of St. Anselm's involvement here, who I think came before Aquinas' definitions. St. Aquinas was building on the work of many prior to him. Existentialism, however, did have a spring-board here. The principle: privatio boni on the face of it does seem odd, but this was worked out after much "water-under-the-bridge"! To give an example of this; I quote a person's comment whom I came accross in the street: "I did go on this de-tox., but I know it won't work as I need to work it out in my head first." What is meant here is that the person was treated without a person-to-person empathy. Unfortunately, consultants opt for the easy tangable solution that looks good on paper, or maybe thay have not worked out their own Philosophy/Spirituality! Reading between the lines, I wondered whether you had personal reasons for being interested in this article - I do not mind telling you that at present, I am seeing a clinical psychologist who is in the processing of assessing whether I do or do not have Asperger's syndrome. I am well aware that the talk pages of Wikipedia articles are meant to be about the article in Wikipedia and not on the subject in general, so sorry if some of the issues I raised on the talk page of this article looked as if they were on the subject in general! I do have Asperger's - I was only diagnosed about 5 years ago (I'm now 55) - so it's been something of an eye-opener for me! It has really explained an awful lot of things about my life to date...I really wish I'd have known about it when I was much younger!

Well, if this is an issue with you - welcome to the gang!

With almost any other medical condition - and certainly with most of the mental health conditions - the news that you have some condition or other can be personally devastating and sufferers are there for mutual support during difficult times. We 'aspies' are generally more of a happy bunch. We absolutely revel in the 'upside' symptoms - which truly are a 'super-power' - and we can generally make light of the downsides. There are definitely worse things you could be...and for many aspies, being "normal" (aka "neurotypical") would be worse.

If you go to aspie clubs or forums, the two messages you hear over and over again are:

• My diagnosis explained so much about myself - I'm *so* much better for knowing.
• If there was a magic blue pill that would cure the syndrome - I wouldn't even consider taking it.

How many medical conditions are there where people would prefer NOT to be cured?

However, it is essential to remember that:

1. There is no cure, no treatment, no possibility of recovery. If this is you - you're stuck with it! There are fad diets and all sorts of other junk...none of them work.
2. It's a 'spectrum' condition - everything from almost complete normality to severely 'disabled' at the Autism end. Not everyone has all of the symptoms...although I believe that we all have at least some of the 'upside' stuff going on.
3. We are still all individuals - and some people can push through some of the less good symptoms by sheer willpower alone.
4. There are lots of 'coping strategies' - and if your health care coverage will cover you for some courses and one-on-one training - grab it with both hands, because that's the one thing you can do that WILL improve your life.

I make it my mission in life to help fellow sufferers out - so if/when you know the truth, I'd be happy to talk about it with you. If you fancy a bit of self-diagnosis in advance of the formal diagnosis, there is an excellent WIRED magazine article with a simple 50 question test. The test seems to be pretty solid. I score 48/50 and my son (who is also an aspie) 46/50 - my neurotypical partner scored 6/50.

If you are in some kind of relationship - then you and your partner should read this: [2] - which explains where the difficulties may lie and what they should do to make things better for you. You may want to cross out any symptoms that you don't have before you do that!

I'd offer to chat on the phone too - but one of my symptoms leaves me feeling very uncomfortable with phone conversations!

Self-esteem deficits? Maybe a little, but to be honest, that's mainly because I'm a girl. I'm not trying to suggest a gender-specific trend, or even a trend at all, but the social protocols of females have always been more foreign to me than those of males. Of course, it would be difficult to prove anything along the lines of Asperger Syndrome causing anorexia, for the simple reason that diagnosed aspies are, for the most part, male. Anorexia stems from social insecurity manifesting itself in fear of obesity, which is primarily a female problem. I've always thought Asperger to be genetic, whereas anorexia is environmentally caused. As a result, the overlap between the two is relatively small, and since there are few female aspies, generalities which do not exist could be reasonably presumed. Your thoughts? Hi ACEOREVIVED - If you look at the apple article, you will see that cyanogenic links to cyanide, so that people can see what it is. "Cyanogenic glycoside" is not a type of cyanide, it is cyanide (just a different way of saying it), so saying it twice would be redundant. We're not required to explain all terms that we use, as long as we use links to direct the reader to the correct page. Thank you for taking the time to give me your suggestions. In what follows, I have divided your comments into sections accompanied by my questions and comments:

(1) You suggest that I might name the author being cited in the early sentences of the article. Are you thinking of the Lead? If so, as I read the Wiki-rules for Lead, they should be as to-the-point as possible with nothing not necessary to make the point.

(2) You suggest that I should “clarify which version” of the Bible is being quoted. I agree, so I did this in Endnote 14 when I used a biblical quotation for the first time. Do you think that an endnote is not sufficient?

(3) You find what “may appear” to be a contradiction between Brueggeman and Inbody. Yes, Brueggeman says that “theodicy is a constant concern of the entire Bible.” However (even with the “constant concern”) except for the temporary Deuteronomic “theodic settlement” that the article says, following Brueggeman, was soon contradicted by Jeremiah and especially by Job, the Bible offers no theodicy, maybe hints of one. So except for a short time and in the Bible as a whole “there is no biblical theodicy” (Inbody). But feel free to add whatever would make this clearer for readers, either now or after the article goes live.

(4) You said that “more could have been said on the question of free will.” That’s an understatement. A twenty-year old bibliography lists 349 books on the free will theodicy and there are many more books on free will since the bibliography. In earlier (three times longer) drafts, I had much more. But the article was too long, so in this 3rd draft I have kept the focus on the Bible and on biblical scholars except for Adler’s writing on the three meanings of free/freedom. I read Jung’s book some years ago. If the article survives going live, feel free to work him into the article.

(5) You characterize the article both a “very good” and as “pretty good.” Either way do you think that the article can “go live” without being deleted or userfied? At this stage, that is all I want to do. Then other editors, maybe including yourself, can make it a better article.

I think you may be mixing up British Islands with British Isles. An article on the politics of the British Islands makes sense — all of the states and territories involved have constitutional links to the UK. You will accept that Ireland is, unequivocally, not a part of the UK? That they are two separate states entirely. In contrast, the Crown Dependencies are considered part of the UK for certain legal matters, have a constitutional relationship with the UK and the UK is responsible certain matters with respect to their governance, external relation and defence (pedantic distinctions between "the Crown" and the UK aside). Additionally the Parliament at Westminster can, strictly speaking, legislate for them at any time.

In that sense, in comparison to the relationship between the Crown Dependencies and the UK, Ireland is a "random" third state. An article on the politics of the UK and the Crown Dependencies makes sense. Lobbing Ireland into the mix alongside them is a bit bizarre. yes, Ireland is not part of the UK. But neither are the crown dependencies. And, we have provided multiple independent bodies of scholarship that look at Ireland, the UK, and the channel islands together, or in various subsets, and study politics, comparative politics, international relations, political movements, political parties, and so on, across the isles. And, of course, we have extant multilateral bodies that have as members almost all of the countries in the isles, notably including Republic of Ireland. So, while you may find it bizarre to consider RoI in a broader context of the archipelago, many other reliable sources do not consider it odd.--KarlB (talk) 20:53, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

My comment simply meant that, if you are thinking of adding material to an article that is in any way contentious or debatable - in fact, any information at all - you should cite reliable sources for doing so. You should not just add information that you "know" to be "correct" - you should explain which published reliable sources you got the information from. This is fundamental to Wikipedia - if you haven't already read the guidance, I suggest you start with WP:V. {{cn}} (citation needed) is simply shorthand for saying that a statement in an article needs to be based on reliable existing sources. Section edit summaries

I have noticed that when you make a section edit, you write the edit summary by replacing the section title inside /* ... */. You are supposed to leave /* ... */ alone and write the edit summary afterwards. Then people can see which section you edited, and the edit summary automatically makes a link to the section. You are still doing it wrong. I'm not asking you to make more edit summaries. I'm asking you to format them correctly when you do make them. For example, in [4] you must have changed the prefilled edit summary

It's still not right. My posts only refer to the case where you click the "edit" link to the right of a section. When you do so, the section edit summary box starts with something like /* Quizzes */ if the section was called "Quizzes". Do not delete or change a single character in this. The only thing you should do is write your own edit summary after the end of:

/* Quizzes */

For example, if you want your edit summary to be "Getting rid of reference in wrong place" then the edit summary box should contain all of this when you click save:

/* Quizzes */ Getting rid of reference in wrong place

If you for some reason don't want the section name "Quizzes" to be part of the edit summary then delete both "Quizzes" and the surrounding /* ... */. But unless you need extra space to write a very long edit summary, it is nearly always best to keep the section name in the edit summary. To see how a correct edit summary for a section works, click the small arrow "→‎" in my edit [5] with edit summary "→‎Section edit summaries: You are still doing it wrong". Yes, you are right, I was that TheRetroGuy, although it's been about twelve months since I changed my name. Vanilla ice cream

You are right, it isn't listed in Category:Flavors of ice cream. That's because there isn't an article on Vanilla ice cream, only a redirect. But I'm quite certain that there are enough sources out there to pass GNG, so you can expand it and then add it to the category if you want pbp 22:46, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

While a new article just on one flavor might not be necessary, you could probably try to expand the article with the additional information on those different flavors. Just an idea, though. Question on Niacin Article

Greetings Valiant Editor, ACEOREVIVED, I am writing because I looked at the Niacin article. I see some contradictory text and some need for copy or better editing. I noticed that you are one of the leading editors at List of cakes. Do you know if we have an article or content in a section of another article for the type of giant cake from which a model pops out for festive occasions (e. g. this video)?
