Tawfīq el-HakīmEdit
I'm currently writing a short thesis on Tawfiq al-Hakim with a specialized focus on Fate of a Cockroach: Four Plays of Freedom. I am finding it rather difficult to find good sources in english and suspect that there is much more information on Tawfiq in arabic. Do you know of any good arabic websites where I might find good information on him. If you had some free time I would appreciate pointing me in the right direction as the information I have found so far seems to be lacking in many respects. Is this a possiblity?

Part of a series onEdit
Saw your comment on the talk page about a "part of a series on" template. Just as a very, very rough example, I took template:zenbuddhism and very roughly applied it to Genesis here, if it helps any. - SudoGhost 04:21, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you, it will help. That was my idea, and how I learn to do most things on Wikipedia (and coding in general), is to find someone who has already done it and look at the source, and work from there. St John Chrysostom Δόξατω Θεώ 05:08, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- I cleaned the template up a bit more, and moved it to Template:GenesisSeries. I know it still needs some work, but I'm hoping to get it polished up and ready for use in the next couple of days, so that when these other articles are fleshed out it'll be ready to link them all together. - SudoGhost 15:52, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- I was thinking about maybe splitting it up so that "Section 1" contains links to articles that are about the actual text itself, and "Section 2" contains articles that discuss the meaning behind the text, and naming the section headers appropriately. What do you think? - SudoGhost 18:46, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds good. The writing is forking so rapidly now I'll probably have to take a break. I broke the 500k prose barrier this night (what is that? 500 pages?), and still am 1/3 of the way through... When I get on a roll writing, I get on a roll, as I assume you can tell just from my comments on talk pages. Probably time to go to sleep now since I'm GMT-05:00. I'm going to restrict my scope to Gen 1-11 at the max (taking out patriarchal narratives for now), and likely to Gen 1-4, along with the minor cosmogonies in Job and Pss.; I'm not sure whether to make it a series on "Biblical creation mythology", as none of those have to do with Genesis, but the vast bulk of the rest does, and the fact that it is a co-existent creation mythology does relate it tangentially to the topic at hand. St John Chrysostom Δόξατω Θεώ 18:53, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- I'm back. I had to squeeze out another 18k before I quit for the night/day yesterday. As you've probably been able to tell, I'm not an expert web programmer, although Wikipedia, even this simple markup, is making me re-evaluate my view of web programmers - who I used to say of, web "programmers"? it's not real coding! Trying writing C++! Or MASM32! St John Chrysostom Δόξατω Θεώ 10:35, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
- Eh, do you think I should write two series, one exclusively on creation myths in the Bible, and other dealing with other aspects of the first chapters of Genesis? I'm getting in to the creation of man, typology (which I'm going to spin off in to a new article, as that section has reached 27k prose) and the Fall in "Genesis in theology", so I'm a bit worried it'll be viewed as an unjustifiable duplication or fork of articles Wikipedia (must) already have on those subjects. St John Chrysostom Δόξατω Θεώ 06:36, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

HiEdit
Was that Credo you copied to my Talk off that website/church up for AfD? I must admit I didn't bother looking at the site, I just looked for WP:RS for the name. It would appear to be one individual, his laptop and his potted geranium. But I imagine God is more forgiving than Christians (let's hope so for all our sakes) and he probably thinks he's doing something worthwhile and sincere so I don't think we should laugh at him, no matter how WP:FRINGE. In ictu oculi (talk) 13:26, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- Eh, I'm going to Hell by my own standards. Let's hope so.
- Yeah. But, honestly, whether God forgives him or not, I have to invoke Poe's law for the second time in one day - is he for real? The inconsistent mash-up of every heresy except for Gnosticism (although that may be in his version of the Apostles' Creed) ever known to Christendom speaks against it. I'll not laugh at the man, but at his writings (after all, I think even GK Chesterton would have been pissed if you didn't laugh at his own): I looked at the site, expecting to see a modern elucidation of Arianism - the scourge of the Church for hundreds upon hundreds of years, defended by some excellent logicians (probably arising from the fact that Arianism arose out of first philosophizing in a Neo-Platonic atmosphere, and then theologizing to fit, instead of the other way around as in normal Christianity). But I found that creed instead! You seem to be in most discussions I'm in around here, so, being an amateur theologian, I may have mistaken you for one, not noticing that most of the discussions I've been in have been on the Bible/textual criticism/historical criticism/historical issues related to Christianity, not theology. (And, I can see how it wouldn't be any funnier than the normal Nicene Creed to someone who knew no theology, nor would the joke about Origen, Pelagius, Arius, Charles Russell and Tillich mean anything :-(.) St John Chrysostom Δόξατω Θεώ 13:33, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- Like Tillich and Erasmus walking in to a bar. Tillich says "Existentialism," and Erasmus replies, "It is a humanism".
- Yes, I'm sorry I'm more interested in history and linguistics than in theology - the Tillich part of the joke was lost on me. I did see the humour in your comments all the same. I was thinking more of the human factor of creating a church, with an archbishopric no less, from a website. One of the less healthy side-effects of the cyber age and virtual everything. Speaking of virtual everything, time to log off and log into real life. You have a good day, appreciate your contributions. Ciao. In ictu oculi (talk) 13:51, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- And three archdioceses. I wonder who runs them? (PS. Tillich was famous for his combination of liberal Christianity and existentialism; Erasmus was all about humanism; Sartre, a major influence on Tillich [and vice-versa, along with Heidegger and Kierkegaard] wrote the seminal Existentialist monograph, "Existentialism is a Humanism", after Tillich had already completed his work.) Hi, I agree that the Kitt page needs to be deleted, it is purely self-promotional, and certainly not notable. I would have voted there, but I am not sure if it looks like I was "invited to vote", so it might be better if I did not vote there. But I do think it deserves to be deleted. History2007 (talk) 04:56, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
- LOL, Damnit! I was attempting to point out the first-fruits of your Reliability Project and SPS (several other articles linked have now been CSD'd - I can see why BLP people always want the broom & sometimes get carried away with it - as I think hers should have been, as "recreation of deleted material"), and see no need of your voting on it, as no sane man could !vote "keep" on that article. Unless it fails to generate any significant interest, as I have a feeling it's so non-notable that unless we get a good, fair admin like SnottyWong to close when he sees three deletes and no opposes and realizes that the subject's so lacking in notability even it's AFD is non-notable, it'll be re-listed several times to even get enough !votes for a "consensus". Like the Templates for Deletion discussion on theologian, where the result is clearly "No Consensus", but indecisive admins re-list it anyways. And then there are those really decisive admins, like the one who closed the Genesis creation narrative RfC - you have to admire them for cutting through the bureaucracy. St John Chrysostom Δόξατω Θεώ 05:02, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
- I think in time, it will eventually get deleted, given the statement that "frustrated with the industry" she started her own, etc. These things are somewhat random, but in the end usually work out. History2007 (talk) 05:05, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Distinction between pro-life and right-to-life movements?Edit
Hi. In WP:RFC/AAT, you asserted that the US pro-life and right-to-life movements are meaningfully distinct topics. Could you give me any more insight into why you consider that the case, and if possible pointers to relevant sources? (I'm asking because it's relevant to the development of User:Chaos5023/Abortion advocacy movement coverage, an RFC draft, incidentally.) —chaos5023 (talk) 20:41, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- I have no sources at the moment (beyond a few books of Moral Theology and Philosophy, which don't really cover the "neutral nomenclature" debate), but, in the sources I have, and in my own personal understanding, "right-to-life" has more to do with euthanasia (of all types, of both the elderly and disabled), and "pro-life" has more to do with abortion; the overlap seems to come in where abortion is carried out, in the view of the author, as a form of euthanasia, e.g. the abortion of an infant/foetus for reasons to do with anticipated future disability, for the most part (overlapping with eugenics). My main sources for this contention are the books, Better Never to Have Been: The Harm of Coming into Existence, by David Benatar, Oxford University Press, and Sources of Christian Ethics, Servais Pinckaers OP, Catholic University of America Press, but I have no page numbers (and, note, as well, that half of what I said above is original synthesis based on the choice of authors to use different terms at different times, and I could be reading a distinction that's not there). I'm not sure if exact references to the definitions exist; I'd check a few dictionaries, but, if you desire, I will look for more evidence, as, although I have never studied it in detail, the impression I have received is this: "Right-to-life and pro-life movements deal with the preservation of human life at different stages or for different reasons, while both mostly abiding by what is called "personalism" [not "personism"], and overlapping in overarching goals." Or something like that.

Bot automation at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvementEdit
Greetings WikiProject TAFI members!
Over the past two weeks, there has been extensive discussion on introducing bot automation to assist with maintenance of the Today's Articles for Improvement project. A bot has now been approved for trial and will carry out the weekly duties. The bots first run will occur around 00:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC) (midnight on Sunday).
If you have been assisting any of the weekly maintenance tasks, please refrain from doing so this week. The bot needs to be tested and proven it can do the job, and it only gets one chance per week. The tasks will include:
- Adding the new scheduled article to Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement and removing the entry from Wikipedia:Articles for improvement
- Set up the schedule pages for the new TAFI, except the adding of an image and caption
- Adding {{TAFI}} to the new article for improvement, remove {{TAFI}} from last week's article and add {{Former TAFI}} to the talk page
- Notify relevant WikiProjects that the new TAFI is within their scope
- Send a mass message to everyone on the notification list of the new TAFI selection
Updating the accomplishments and archiving selections is still done manually, along with daily tasks such as adding approved entries to the articles for improvement page. These will become automated in the near future.
We hope the bot proves to serve well, and by carrying out the routine housekeeping tasks we can boost the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project. MusikBot thanks you for your service in helping with the weekly tasks in the past, and for your cooperation during this trial period :)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Catholic-Hierarchy.orgEdit
Hello. I noticed that you have edited a number of articles on Catholicism. A discussion is taking place as to whether the website Catholic-Hierarchy.org is a reliable source that can be utilized on Wikipedia or whether all references and information derived from it should be deleted. This topic is currently being discussed at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard [1]. As the website's removal as a reference will affect several thousand Wikipedia articles, I believe that the broadest range of opinions should be obtained before action is taken. Please contribute if interested.Patapsco913 (talk) 22:07, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you. It appears reliable (i.e. factually accurate) for information as to the incumbents of various dioceses, but as an essentially self-compiled and self-published work I believe it falls afoul of WP:RS. You may quote this if you wish, I may pop over to the debate. I retired from WP in 2011 and came out of full retirement only in December. 24.26.131.55 (talk) 23:47, 3 February 2016 (UTC) St John Chrysostom Δόξατω Θεώ 23:48, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your opinion. I am arguing for it to remain a reliable source based on the fact that even though it is self-published, it is referenced as a reliable source by many other entities including Catholic institutions and parishes, academic libraries, newspapers, several prominent church commentators, and as a reference in many books. My argument is more developed on the Noticeboard. All opinions are welcome. This change would affect roughly 3,500 articles so I thought it was important that we get as many opinions as possible before information starts getting removed.Patapsco913 (talk) 02:31, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

We need more neutral opinions here. I've followed instructions here and at Wikipedia:Feedback request service and to used the user lists there. I've sent a message for neutral input to everyone active recently and available for 10 per month or more on the lists in the Language and linguistics, Media, the arts, and architecture, Society-sports-culture, Unsorted and All-RFCs lists, none of whom have interacted with me before, that I can remember. Have done my best to act in good faith to try to get more neutral opinions. Please help! Thanx! SergeWoodzing (talk) 14:56, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
