Although, I support you making this choice. Can you simplify its sentence construction? And perhaps neutrality (eg. why use "extraneous") seems like no one would support extraneous things (I actually think there is valid reason not to put any image in the Islamic Depictions section of this article). It could, however, be argued that the deleted material does at least throw useful light on the subject; i.e., the Qur'an really does mention the Sabians... Script list replacement project

Tree shaping

Hi JohnChrysostom, I just wanted to drop a note that your recent edit at Tree shaping might be considered somewhat controversial. Of course, you don't normally edit in that topic area, and uninvolved participation is always welcome, but it does seem a bit odd that you showed up suddenly, have never participated at the article's talkpage, but made a bullseye edit in the part of the article that is most in dispute.[1] The implication might be that one of the disputants contacted you and asked you to make an edit on their behalf (a problem that has occurred at other times in the article's history). So, just as a heads-up, please be aware that the article is currently under discretionary sanctions, per Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Tree shaping#Remedies, specifically as regards the name of the topic. If you would like to continue to edit the article, or participate in the discussions at the talkpage, I encourage you to do so. Actually, no, no one contacted me, but I was looking through all of the lists of "discretionary sanctions here" (based on traversing a linked list all the way from the RfC on Muhammadan [or is that "Muhammadine"?] images) and that's how I did find the page (as I find that often an outside editor who doesn't care about the topic can see how bad things have really become on those pages that have become a WP:BATTLEGROUND, as editors oft get sucked in to a very myopic focus on one infinitesimal issue to the detriment of everything else) - I didn't even think that was a bold edit (I guess I don't consider gardening controversial), just cleaning up the lead. I do not know what part of my edit was controversial (I'm assuming it was removing self-promotion from the lead, which I do remember, but I'm not sure the exact wording I used or changes made - I suppose I could open up wikiEd and take a look at the diff), but, I do believe my edit is in accord with policy and defensible. I apologize if I upset a long-standing balance (maybe - sometimes long-standing battlegrounds can be helped by a neutral editor, as long as, as you say, one side doesn't "draft" him), as I was editing in accord with MOS, not with motive or any actual knowledge of the subject matter. (For example, that's why I didn't edit content.) If it has been brought up on the talk page, I will mosey over when I have a moment and give my reasoning (note, that I know nothing about the topic, so, if it's gone beyond policy-purely, I'll probably slip up). And, I meant to add, I do know enough not to be a meat puppet (but I seem to attract them, no doubt, as I've received too many emails from blocked users asking "will you go to AN and vouch for my unblock?" "No, I don't even know who you are!"), but I also seem to have a nose for sniffing out controversy (either that, or when articles are embroiled in controversy, those parts that are most controversial tend to be very, very low in quality after a few rounds in the boxing ring, maybe due to design by committee) - I think the latter. I've gone and posted my reasoning on the talk page over there. (I generally don't use the talk page unless 1) I'm reverted and 2) I think my edit is that important: maybe I'm changing? I edited for five years without ever knowing there even was a talk page, but instead refactoring my edits every time they were reverted, etc. until they were found acceptable - I wonder how much talking went on without my knowledge then? - but I've never been blocked or sanctioned in any manner [knock on wood, now that I said it, an admin will swoop in and block me for 30 seconds, ruining my plan from RfA to RfB to world domination].) WP:RIB

Hey there, John! It seems like you have a real skill in creating Ribbon Alternatives, specifically the "Shadowed" ribbons I, myself fancy. I'm wondering if you'd be willing to give us a hand over at The Wikipedia Awards WikiProject and work in filling a few gaps for us. Specifically egregious is that our own WikiProject Award, the Barnstar Barnstar, has no Shadowed equivalent. Any chance of you giving us a hand? Thanks and Cheers! That's funny - I've been told the same several times, although I look harshly upon my own work for failing to keep the very militaristic look of most ribbons. (And, before I created the first ribbon alternative about a month ago, I had never once done any form of graphical design whatsoever.) But, yes, point me in the right direction or give me a set of links to the barnstars that need ribbons or their image files, and, if you wish, any ideas for what you or the project would like them to look like, and I'll slap a few together for each one that the project can then decide upon, or create a final version personally, whichever is preferred. Well, it would seem the obvious place to start would be to take the Ribbons that exist as either Textured or Small and just convert those into the Shadowed version (that, if usage of The Original Barnstar is correct, is favored by 74-1-2 by users who use the Ribbons). Selfishly, I'd like to see File:Recent Changes Ribbon.png fixed, and File:Barnstar Barnstar Ribbon.png and File:Red Sox Ribbon.png turned into Shadowed. If this is a process that is relatively easy for you, we could then go about finding the Barnstars without Ribbons and designing new ones for them (as well as creating new Ribbons whenever a new Barnstar is listed at WP:WPWPA). LOL! I can "batch them" means "process them all at once in an automated fashion by applying the same transformation to each ribbon", and asking for a "zip file or archive" means, "is there a central repository of all of the images that's easily downloadable?", and "same resolution" means what it sounds like (i.e. all of them have to be 800x240 or whatever the standard is). That's terminal operator or sysadmin jargon, not graphics jargon - I'm at a loss when it comes to graphics. I had a semi-girlfriend at one time who fancied herself an artiste (because she could draw Anime characters) and photographeur, who raved about her "SLR" camera, and I still don't know what "SLR" is even after looking it up on Wikipedia. Oh, we've all dated the photographeur. "Look, I took a picture of my shoes on the beach in back and white with a strange angle; isn't that artsy!?" Been there, done that. As for a repository of Shadowed Ribbons, there doesn't appear to be one. There is a Commons Category for Barnstar ribbons (commons:Category:Barnstar ribbons), but it mixes all three styles. Actually, it appears as the Commons needs to seriously consider fixing how that categorize it, since there's also commons:Category:Wikipedia ribbon bars.
