DoubleTree by Hilton is a worldwide brand of full service hotels trademarked by Hilton Worldwide. There are currently more than 325 locations with more than 80,000 rooms on five continents. Most DoubleTree by Hilton hotels are independently owned and operated by franchisees, however, some are owned and/or managed by Hilton Worldwide.[1] DoubleTree by Hilton is currently the shirt sponsor of English Football League One club, MK Dons F.C..

editThe DoubleTree by Hilton product line includes DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels; DoubleTree by Hilton Guest Suites, DoubleTree by Hilton Club; and DoubleTree by Hilton Resorts. There are more than 300 hotel properties in gateway cities, airport locations and suburban markets throughout five continents.
Timeline
edit- The first DoubleTree hotel opens in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1969 next to the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall. This location is now the Scottsdale Days Inn. The land is on lease from the mall.[2]
- The second DoubleTree hotel opens in Tucson, Arizona, in 1974 and is still in operation.[3]
- Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies are introduced in the 1980s.
- DoubleTree Corporation is formed in 1994, following the merger of Guest Quarters Suites Hotels and DoubleTree Hotels.
- The brand's first Latin America hotel, the El Pardo Hotel in Lima, Peru, joins the brand in 1995; it is now known as DoubleTree El Pardo by Hilton Hotel.
- Red Lion Hotels merges with DoubleTree Corporation in 1996.
- DoubleTree Corporation merges with Promus Hotel Corporation in 1997.
- Hilton Hotels Corporation acquires Promus Hotel Corporation in December 1999.
- In 2006 DoubleTree Hotels begins using Dinah Washington's "Relax Max" song in one of their television commercials.[4]
- Seals time capsule Feb 2001 at their Cocoa Beach hotel. Scheduled to be opened in 2015.
- Around 2006 Hilton Hotels starts using the multi-word designation "DoubleTree by Hilton" as a brand name, initially for their golf resorts.
- The brand's first Asia hotel, the DoubleTree by Hilton Beijing in Beijing, China, opens in July 2008.[5][6]
- The brand's first Europe hotel, the Cambridge Garden House Hotel in Cambridge, United Kingdom now known as the DoubleTree by Hilton Cambridge, opens in April 2008. [7]
- The brand's first hotel in the Caribbean opens as the DoubleTree by Hilton San Juan in San Juan, Puerto Rico in Summer of 2008.[8]
- The brand's first two Africa hotels open in the same month in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, Tanzania in November 2009.[9]
- The brand's first[citation needed] South East Asia hotel is the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Located just 10 minutes from Petronas Twin Towers, it was opened in 2010.[10]
- In 2011, a new logo was launched, with a pictorial element combining a tree silhouette with a capital letter D, and the word mark DoubleTree by hilton, with the word "DoubleTree" in camel case.[11]
- DoubleTree by Hilton opens its 300th hotel in Japan in Naha, Okinawa, in 2012. DoubleTree expands further to enter Thailand, Spain, Croatia, and more in a year that sees 50 hotels opened, a record for the brand.
- 2013 is set to be another record breaking year, with another 50 openings planned, including market firsts in South Africa, Seychelles, Dubai, and Ireland.

The DoubleTree cookie
editDoubleTree by Hilton presents a freshly baked, warm chocolate chip cookie with walnuts to each guest at check-in. Used to suggest DoubleTree hospitality, and symbolize its culture of care, it has been used to differentiate the DoubleTree hotel brand from its competition.[12]
DoubleTree and corporate social responsibility
editDoubleTree places a strong emphasis on Corporate social responsibility in their day-to-day business. The brand has launched a variety of projects that include working with local schoolchildren and identifying strategic partners for their hotels to work with on community outreach and environmental awareness projects.[13] Founded in 2002, the DoubleTree Teaching Kids to CARE program connects DoubleTree hotels with local elementary schools and youth groups to educate children about caring for their community and the environment.[14] In 2008, DoubleTree Hotels received the Promise to the Earth Award from Arbor Day Foundation – the organization's lifetime achievement award for the company's work in connecting kids with nature.[15]
In 2012, DoubleTree by Hilton was a Silver Sponsor of the Woodland Trust's Jubilee Woods Project honoring Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilee anniversary.
More than 60 of its hotels are currently certified or recognized by green lodging and sustainability organizations around the world.[16]
