Article needs to be expanded

This article can be expanded on the lines followed by Hyderabad (India)" article. Sumanthk 10:06, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

I would request you to recheck about the boundaries that you gave.

Currently the city extends further to Budameru. Budameru river as you quoted is in actuality not a river, but an irrigation canal --DreamChaser 04:58, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Please go ahead and make the necessary corrections if you are sure about it. --(Sumanth|Talk) 05:58, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Proposal for changing the picture in the Info-box

I would like to propose for a change in the picture in the Info-box of the article.Because the picture there now is again stated in the section:Kondapalli Forest.Another reason for the given picture is that: Vijayawada is the home of South India's largest railway junction and is widely renowned for it's station. So we can display the station at the starting of the page. (Note:The proposal can be raised for an opposition within five days (before 13th December 2009). If no opposition is raised, the picture shall be on display on 13th December 2009.SharadbobTalkC 11:11, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

The proposal above is being implemented observing no opposition against the same.--SharadbobTalkC 12:18, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Copyright concerns

In February 2010, this article was quite rightly tagged for resemblance to the external website [1]. However, investigation suggests that in this case infringement is reversed. Consider the following paragraph in the article's lead:

Vijayawada...earlier known as Bezawada, is the third largest city in Andhra Pradesh, India, located on the banks of the Krishna River and bounded by the Indrakiladri Hills on the West and the Budameru River on the North. Vijayawada literally translates to "The Place of Victory". Its prominence as a major trading and business center has earned it the title of the "Business Capital of Andhra Pradesh”. Situated along the Chennai-Howrah and Chennai-Delhi Railway route, this is the 3rd largest railway junction in the world. The city is located in the Krishna District, about 275 kilometres (171 mi) from the state capital Hyderabad. Lying in the rich coastal delta of the state, the cuisine of Vijayawada is spicy and deliciously varied.

While this paragraph bears clear and strong resemblance to the external site, we can see evidence of its natural evolution here. When this article was established in 2004, it contained the following:

Vijayawada, the third largest city in Andhra Pradesh is located on the banks of the Krishna River, and is bounded by the lndrakiladri hills on the West and the Budameru river on the North. Situated along the Madras-Howrah and Madras-Delhi rail route, this is the largest railway junction of the South Central Railway. The city forms a part of the Krishna district, and is spread over an area of 58 sq. kms (urban area), with a population of 7 Lakhs (1991 census).

At that time, the external website was a domain for sale.

Evidence of natural evolution includes the sentence, "Its prominence as a major trading and business center has earned it the title of the "Business Capital of Andhra Pradesh”.", which is present on both pages, but came into our article in 2008, while the sentence "Lying in the rich coastal delta of the state, the cuisine of Vijayawada is spicy and deliciously varied" entered in March 2009 with a now-removed reference to mangoes and pickles.

Thank you very much to the contributor who noted the concern. It's important to check these situations out. The Wikimedia Foundation takes copyright matters very seriously, and we always need to verify that we are not copying content when such situations occur. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:24, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

in this article you mentioned 'vijayawada is third biggest juntion in asia ' at one palce and "vijayawada is third bigest railway junction in the world" at anoher place. which was correc? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.94.141.181 (talk) 16:13, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Change to the ranking of the railway junction

The statement that the railway junction in Vijayawada is the busiest in India and the biggest in Asia could be inaccurate. The author did not quote any article either.

This line in the article is being modified to address it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Venkatarv (talkcontribs) 07:56, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Change the picture in the main article page to a collage

This post is to propose using a collage picture for Vijayawada article. Now most large cities have a collage picture on wikipedia and I feel we should use one for Vijayawada also. The discussion will be open until 17th April 2011 and if no one has objections using the below picture, it will be uploaded to the main article page in place of the current one.

Vijayawada is referred to as the political capital?

As one born and brought up in Vijayawada, I'm surprised at the claim that it is referred to as the political capital of AP. Is there a citation? If one cannot be found, this assertion should be removed. Hyderabad is the political capital of AP, Vijayawada is colloquially called the business capital of the state. It is a hub of commerce, to be precise.

Vijayawada town is built by Pusapati Madhava Varma — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.0.40.160 (talk) 12:30, 17 September 2013 (UTC) The other fact about Vijayawada is that it is the biggest business center , especially for farmers.

Capital of Andhra Pradesh ?

The wording should be changed about the "Capital" . Hyderabad is the joint capital for 10 years. Vijayawada is the future capital. --Pavithrans (talk) 04:56, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Vijayawada is the present capital of AP. Hyderabad is the capital for supportive purpose for administration like assembly and other government organizations. The wording is correct.--Vin09 (talk) 06:14, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

The refernece quoted by Vin09 does not state that Vijayawada is the new state capital but says that a FUTURE capital will be located "arround Vijayawada. It is better to refer to the city as either an "administrative centre" of if the word capital needs to be used, then as a "de facto administrative capital". Legislation passed by the central government clearly defines Hyderabad as the de jure capital for the next 10 years. Dn9ahx (talk) 14:18, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Nope, the legislation passed by the central government says that Hyderabad remains capital for up to 10 years, meaning that it is/was a temporary solution, until a new capital has been named. Thomas.W talk 14:27, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
@Dn9ahx: You took my statement wrongly, Hyderabad is the de jure that's ok. But Vijayawada is the present capital, the reference which you said was of 4th september, I've updated the 5th september confirmed news, can check it, so both should be placed, neither should be removed. Reference--Vin09 (talk) 14:46, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
I can see your argument but we still do not have sufficient evidence to refer to the city as the "capital city" of Andhra Pradesh. Could we use the term "de facto capital" until agreement is reached on whether it is or is not the de jure capital city e.g. "Vijayawada is the second largest city and de facto capital of Andhra Pradesh". Dn9ahx (talk) 16:54, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Well, I think we may consider the gazette notification either by the state government or the central government in this regard. --βα£α(ᶀᶅᶖᵵᵶ) 19:05, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Rephrased the Article in the introduction. The official government statement did not spell out the name of the capital for the state of AP. It is only given a vicinity 'around'. User:vin09 is assuming the city name to be the capital which is completely unsubstantiated, please don't undo changes with your personal conclusions and without any proper official references/statements --Apstate — Preceding undated comment added 14:23, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
I have not undone anything after this edit. @Dn9ahx: corrected that to de-facto, which the page started following it. If you have anything, you can ask those who has undone it.--Vin09 (talk) 14:38, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

About the topic discussion, say for example take Gannavaram Airport, which is in Gannavaram mandal, not in Vijayawada municipal corporation also. It is known as Vijayawada Airport. The same way the region is selected for the government offices, but still the capital will be known as Vijayawada. Can see this news headline Reference. But still as if now, we can write as de-facto which @Dn9ahx: stated. Any comments is appreciated.--Vin09 (talk) 14:46, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Be careful – all sources quoted state that the future state capital will be located in the Vajayawada region / near Vajayawada or on the Vajyawads-Guntur corridor. They do not state that Vajyawada is the official capital city – other sources say that some government departments will move to Vajyawada until a new capital is established such as heads of departments and the CM will work 5 days a week from the city – therefore it can be described as a de facto administrative capital or as many sources state an "ad hoc" capital. Dn9ahx (talk) 12:47, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
Fine, that was an old reference, but I accepted your de-facto wording in AP page, can see that talk page.--Vin09 (talk) 05:17, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

False information, not capital

This article has wrong information and will be updated with the facts and corresponding references. Vijayawada is not the capital for the state. The capital is completely in Guntur District and has no relation to this town.[1][2][3][4]. As per Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, Hyderabad will remain the de jure capital of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states for a period of time not exceeding 10 years.[5] Apstate (talk) 21:02, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Vijayawada

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Vijayawada's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "census":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 02:30, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
