– The basketball player receives 14,326 views in the past 30 days to 905 views for the actor. I think that this warrants making the basketball player the primary. Hoops gza (talk) 18:06, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oppose I think Jimmy Butler should be a disambiguation page with Jimmy Butler (basketball) and Jimmy Butler (actor) linked. This would be consistent with how Kevin McHale was handled - and I think the McHales are more prominent than the Butlers. Rikster2 (talk) 16:27, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose I think Rikster2's proposal is a good solution. Iksnyrk (talk) 22:09, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Certainly move the actor to Jimmy Butler (actor). I abstain from discussion regarding this page. Red Slash 03:16, 10 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Make Jimmy Butler a dab page There are enough news hits for the actor, and the basketball player is serviceable but by no means a star at this point to justify it as the primary topic.—Bagumba (talk) 18:44, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose moving Jimmy Butler (basketball), support moving Jimmy Butler to Jimmy Butler (actor) and making Jimmy Butler a DAB. There is no primary topic. Andrewa (talk) 14:17, 15 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I oppose moving Jimmy Butler (basketball) anywhere, but I support moving Jimmy Butler to Jimmy Butler (actor), and making Jimmy Butler a disambiguation page. The actor seems to have been reasonably well-known in his day. If he were a contemporary actor, I'm sure he would have many more page views. Zagalejo^^^ 20:22, 15 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Can someone please add Butler's stats from when he was at Tyler JC even if they are not as complete as his Marquette stats? (GS, MPG and BPG are missing)

Picture edit

Hey guys, could someone please get a more quality picture of him? This one is solid, but as he is an emerging star, people will want to learn more about him and visit this page. As part of the Chicago Bulls Personal Relations team, I am kindly requesting a change of picture.

== Various pictures of Mr. Butler have been uploaded and removed for supposedly infringing on the photographer's copyright. I understand that, under Wikipedia policy, Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Creative Commons licenses are not supposed to be uploaded, but I don't see why that is the case. The only difference between Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0, which is prohibited, and Attribution 3.0, which is allowed, is that you can't make derivative works from images subject to the former license. Uploading an un-cropped image licensed under Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 can't possibly infringe the rights of the rights holder. Putting that image, unaltered in any way, into a small portion of an encyclopedia article seems to be exactly what the terms of the license mean by "collective work." So it makes no sense to me that the Jimmy Butler picture is being removed. Even un-cropped it is far better than the current image. If there has been a discussion of these licensing issues before and a more regular Wikipedia user can direct me to that discussion, I would appreciate it. Osuadh (talk) 06:49, 18 February 2015 (UTC) ==Reply

Wikipedia does not allow copyrighted photos where a free version might be reasonably obtained. The file up on Flickr has 'no derivatives', and due to Wikipedia's stringent copyright policy, is not 'free' enough for Wikipedia. A free photo is one that has been published by the copyright owner to be under a free license, examples being CC BY or CC BY SA. There are certain situations where it is acceptable to upload a copyrighted photo. For example, video game screenshots to outline an important area of gameplay. However, in a situation where the subject is a living person, and where someone may reasonably be able to snap a photo of Jimmy, it's not permitted to use copyrighted image or a only partially free Creative Commons one. If Jimmy Butler's publicist wants to donate a photo under a free license, they can do such. Until then, the current free photo of Jimmy will stay. Tutelary (talk) 23:55, 18 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

New contract info edit

Why does someone keep removing his contract info? Look at the Dragic page and see how it is phrased as reportedly signed a new contract. The same was up for Butler before someone removed it. Butler has confirmed he has agreed an extension too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shreerajtheauthor (talkcontribs) 19:58, 8 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

NBA Link Conventions? edit

Since linking is among Wikipedia's greatest inconsistencies within and between professional sports, I thought I'd ask if NBA players, teams, and related pages should strictly adhere to MOS:LINK. For example, I removed links to teams if they were previously linked to. Likewise, I linked to teams when they were first mentioned. If that's inappropriate here, please amend accordingly.

Second, in citation 11, there's a brief reference to teams: "He continued to play at least 40 minutes in the Bulls' next four games, with 43, 46, 44 and 45 minutes played against the Lakers, Pistons, Warriors and Wizards, respectively.[11]" Should that be ignored in this context?

Unrelated, the Personal Section should could revision: "He also embraces the country lifestyle by wearing belt buckles, cowboy boots, and learning to play guitar. He is featured in the music video of the country song Light It Up by Luke Bryan.[68] He is good friends with Mark Wahlberg, whom he met while Wahlberg was filming Transformers: Dark of the Moon in Chicago. The two have vacationed in Paris together.[69] Although he was abandoned by his parents early on in life, he holds no grudges and has a relationship with them.[70]"

(a) Butler apparently doesn't like the country lifestyle as much as he used to (per citation 69). (b) The final sentence merely repeats content in the "early life" section. Revise? Gprobins (talk) 16:44, 14 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Jimmy Butler was not an All-Star in 2021. edit

It says that Jimmy was an All-Star in 2021, and even though he was selected to the All-NBA 3rd-team, he was not selected for the 2021 All-Star game, not even as an injury replacement.

Prior discussion notifications @Sbaio: @Howard the Duck: @Denniscabrams: @Bagumba: @MrSplashman77:

Some debate between two options of File:Jimmy Butler (cropped).jpg and File:Jimmy_Butler_(2022_All-Star_Weekend)_(cropped).jpg. Previous discussion with a couple people prefering each was had at the NBA Wikiproject. Personally I prefer a more recent image, and the previous image is kinda grainy as others have pointed out. @Rentonfenton: added the newer All-Star image and @Sbaio: replaced it with previous image, and I reverted it back and created this discussion. WikiVirusC(talk) 15:18, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the ping. My opinion hasn't changed from before: The non-hoodie pic is not grainy at its normal display, only if you click and view in higher resolution. I prefer that pic, where his head and face is not covered, though it is a few years older.Bagumba (talk) 17:10, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
My opinion also hasn't changed. The in-game image shows less of his face (only a three-quarter angle), is about as grainy as any I've ever seen in a high-traffic article (even in its normal display) and is now three years old. It's also still my suspicion that Sbaio wants to use that image simply because it shows Butler making a silly face. I can't think of any other reason to be so insistent on it. --Dennis C. Abrams (talk) 23:27, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
You ought to keep your suspicions and/or accusations to yourself and also should consider reading WP:NPA. In addition, I agree with Bagumba about the non-hoodie image being a better illustration for Butler due to his head being uncovered. – sbaio 02:36, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Someone w/ edit privileges needs to add "Playoff Jimmy" to the nicknames in article intro. edit

Basically the subject line. There's another nickname that he's becoming arguably MORE well known for than the already listed "Jimmy Buckets". That being "Playoff Jimmy" ofc. Thus it needs to be added to the intro by someone w/ editing privileges.

Maybe something like so → "... "Jimmy Buckets", as well as "Playoff Jimmy" for the way he famously consistently plays significantly better in the post-season." Cooe (talk) 07:41, 7 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Nvm... Scratch the "famously" from that suggestion and change "better in" to "better during".
"... as well as "Playoff Jimmy" for the way he consistently plays significantly better during the post-season" just sounds so, SOOOO MUCH better! Cooe (talk) 07:49, 7 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
