Tom Lister Jr. edit

Can TMZ be removed as a source? It is not a reliable one, and I found a better link from Variety that can be used instead. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 09:15, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • TMZ has never been declared an unreliable source by Wikipedia, just one that should be used with caution due to its gossipy entertainment nature. For things they break such as this that quite obviously happened, there is no real issue. Nohomersryan (talk) 09:42, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I've linked his wrestling career to a movie, rather than WWF and/or WCW. Both characters are the guy from the movie, WCW just had to skirt trademark law. Exceptional style, but both exceptional angles, it makes sense this time. InedibleHulk (talk) 11:24, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
The TMZ source got replaced with CNN. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 17:26, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
And the movie that doubled as a match is now just another movie, which kinda works, too. InedibleHulk (talk) 17:33, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
It’s why TMZ is not always a reliable source. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 18:50, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
However, just be aware that the bible for sources exists here, and any trust or anti-trust deviating from that long list may be challenged elsewhere in Wikipedia at any time. Replacing links which editors personally believe are unreliable, when the formally consensual list says otherwise, can be validly altered or reverted back. Ref (chew)(do) 19:23, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm confused. Does CNN contradict TMZ? I think they agree. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:29, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

[1] Can Parkinson’s disease be added as his cause of death? MikaelaArsenault (talk) 22:20, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

I wouldn't have thought so. His website admits to "health complications, including several years living with Parkinson's disease". However, his age makes it difficult to say that it was "complications of Parkinson's disease" (which you'd want to), as the statement does not connect the two - it is "including". So, not for me. Ref (chew)(do) 22:37, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
How does “living with Parkinson’s disease” become a cause of death? More care, less haste please. WWGB (talk) 22:56, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

David Fitzgerald edit

He died from cancer on December 17th: [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] MikaelaArsenault (talk) 23:58, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but his notability claim seems very thin, at best. He is not mentioned in The Telescopes article, nor either of their first two album, Taste/The Telescopes, articles. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 00:13, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I agree, no evidence of notability. WWGB (talk) 00:16, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Also agree. Looking at AllMusic, I'd say definitely a sessions bit part player. For the 2004 album contribution, it says "Group Member", but I don't believe that. Ref (chew)(do) 04:13, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Believe it or not, it's true (for the first two albums anyway). Editrite! (talk) 08:27, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

K.T. Oslin edit

She died after after battling Parkinson’s Disease and being diagnosed with COVID-19.[7] MikaelaArsenault (talk) 20:54, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

"... after battling Parkinson's Disease and being diagnosed with COVID-19". While those were battles, they are not confirmed CODs. Wyliepedia @ 21:22, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@MikaelaArsenault: Can you please stop clogging this page with unhelpful commentary. Unless you find a reliable source that says "X died from Y", then anything else is supposition and speculation, and we do not need to know about it. You do not have to comment here every day. WWGB (talk) 03:24, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
COVID-19 did end up getting added as a cause of death: [8] MikaelaArsenault (talk) 10:13, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@WWGB: - apparently, she does. Ref (chew)(do) 12:49, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Are you kidding me about "You do not have to comment here every day"? I've been watching this entry since somewhere around 2012 or 2013. That entire time and probably long before, this talk page has been dominated by the same three or four editors over and over and over and over again, basically ganging up on just about anyone else who dares to contribute anything. Where's the community consensus? There is none. All I see is just a few individuals who have staked out a corner of the encyclopedia to play WP:OWN. Little wonder that the encyclopedia is full of dead people who we portray as still living, as well as deaths reflected in reliable sources but not in these lists, when activity is dominated by a tiny clique spending inordinate amounts of time micromanaging others' contributions while not showing the least concern towards what "the sum of all human knowledge" actually entails. Happy Holidays everyone! -- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 17:40, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
And a Merry Christmas to you too. Here's hoping that lockdown-affected carpers also have as good a time as possible. Ref (chew)(do) 18:41, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
You sank my Ownership! Wyliepedia @ 18:52, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
And yet, despite the clique (but probably because of it), Recent Deaths continues to be the second or third most-viewed page in the English Wikipedia. I guess most of the readers prefer order over kaos. WWGB (talk) 03:45, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't mind being an agent of KAOS. Wyliepedia @ 05:03, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ty Jordan edit

He died on December 25th, not December 26th.[9] MikaelaArsenault (talk) 18:10, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

  Done --Marbe166 (talk) 18:38, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
And he died of gunshot wound - [10] - whether deliberate or accidental is immaterial, so repeated removals of that cause need to stop. Ref (chew)(do) 20:39, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Semi-protected edit request on 28 December 2020 edit

Danny Hodge passed away on Dec 14th 2020 not Christmas Day! Even the cited source says 24th. 2603:80A0:1B00:8200:C095:CEE6:B770:8B5 (talk) 17:28, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Not done: The cited source does not give a date that I can see, however this website states that it was the 25th. Please provide sources that disprove this for a change to be made. Terasail[✉] 18:35, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Some sources are saying that he died on December 26th: [11] [12] [13]. This says December 24th: [14]. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 19:20, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Even more vague so still not done. Ref (chew)(do) 19:39, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
However, another day, another outcome. The results of this Google search bring up a majority of reliable sources saying either "24th" or "Thursday" (which are the same date). So moved. Ref (chew)(do) 06:14, 29 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Nick McGlashan edit

Nick McGlashan, Deadliest Catch cast member, dies at 33 on December 27th. [15] Variety reports he had been on the realty show since 2013, 75 episodes. [16] P37307 (talk) 09:40, 29 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

To me, he is one of thousands of ordinary fishermen who just happened to get filmed. So I would prefer not to add him on grounds of baseline notability. Ref (chew)(do) 15:02, 29 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Refsworldlee: Agreed. That's why I left it here in the talk instead of adding it directly. Although, news media and breaking news apps across the internet has (had) it trending. I don't watch the show so I don't know its, or the casts, popularity. P37307 (talk) 23:56, 29 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
  Ref (chew)(do) 04:15, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
According to the Deadliest Catch article, he wasn't even a fisherman, just a deck hand. Editrite! (talk) 05:38, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

MF Doom edit

MF Doom died October 31, 2020. His death was reported today. https://www.complex.com/music/2020/12/mf-doom-dead-49 Why was my edit reverted? PF4Eva (talk) 22:40, 31 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Because October is not December. He was added in the correct place here: Deaths in October 2020. --Marbe166 (talk) 23:48, 31 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Never mind that what I've seen published thus far throws up major red flags as far as verifiability is concerned. If you're not paying attention, we're talking about a bunch of sketchy web sites repeating a social media post. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 00:35, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Grace L. Drake edit

Grace L. Drake died on December 30, 2020 not December 31, 2020. Senator Grace Drake. Please correct the date of the death from December 31 to December 30, 2020-thank you-RFD (talk) 21:46, 2 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

  Done by someone. Ref (chew)(do) 03:33, 3 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please add edit

Burt Pugach died on December 24, 2020. It does not look like he was added in to the deaths list. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 05:39, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Find a source other than the verboten Daily Mail, and he can be added at Deaths in December 2020. Wyliepedia @ 09:40, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
A quick Google search: Texas News Today: Burt Pugach dies and leaves entire $15M estate to his caregiver. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 16:04, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Look at the Texas News Today source article content. It is self-admittedly based completely on information from the Daily Mail! So I'd say don't use that either (Daily Mail by proxy). Ref (chew)(do) 16:14, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
(In fact, the whole article appears to be copied and pasted into Texas News Today from the Daily Mail piece.) Ref (chew)(do) 16:16, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the death must be properly sourced. But, I would not believe that a news outlet would make the story up out of whole cloth. Who knows? We can wait for better sources, if the story is true. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 21:49, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Missing 2020 deaths edit

In case anybody wants to work on it, here are pages in the 2020 deaths category but not listed on the monthly lists. I won't get around to adding them for a long while, so have at it, and feel free to update the list below if you cross some off. Star Garnet (talk) 19:45, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
