New article which may be of interest to you good people

Phillips' Sound Recording Services is a new article by a new editor, which may be of interest to members of this Wikiproject. DuncanHill (talk) 16:04, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

I have cleaned and worked on it, but others are welcome.--andreasegde (talk) 14:25, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

It is now up for a GA review.--andreasegde (talk) 22:53, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

It passed.--andreasegde (talk) 23:00, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Another new article which may be of interest

Seltaeb (merchandising company).--andreasegde (talk) 13:54, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

The portal

The redesigned portal is up and running - Portal:The Beatles (or P:TB). I'll try to update it every week, but feel free to fiddle...... Dendodge .. TalkContribs 10:59, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Magic Alex

According to two editors (Zephyrad and Justin (koavf)) the article should remain as Magic Alex, and not "Alex Mardas (Magic Alex)". This despite the fact that

  • Magic Alex (discounting the title) is mentioned FIVE times.
  • Alex (alone) is mentioned TWICE.
  • Mardas is mentioned over SEVENTY times.

The mind boggles.--andreasegde (talk) 14:04, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I agree it should probably be Alex Mardas, but the use of a second title in brackets is only used to disambiguate between different pages, so I can see why there were objections to that. Hope it doesn't stop you taking it to GA as it's a damn fine article. I don't mind taking it on, except that all my Beatles books are locked up in an attic somewhere so I can't really add much more content wise:)--Pawnkingthree (talk) 14:33, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I did want to take it to GA, because I put a lot of info into it, and it was "Almost There", as Andy Williams was wont to warble. It's the one that got away, but the world will turn... Back to Phillips' Sound Recording Services and Seltaeb, I suppose.--andreasegde (talk) 15:08, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

the Beatles The Beatles

The furore is hopefully winding down (thanks to Dendodge's intervention) although it will inevitably flare up again at some point. No matter which side anyone is on (the or The) I'm sure it has been a very unpleasant experience.--andreasegde (talk) 13:53, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, thanks - but I'm sure someone else would have thought of a straw poll. I got in there first, that's all. It's a shame this is the best thing we can find to argue about - surely there are more important things to do. I can't help thinking The Beatles could be at FA by now if we hadn't wasted so much time. Soon all this will be over, and for it to flare up again would be even more pointless. I ask that we just let it be...... Dendodge .. TalkContribs 14:37, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
No; take a pat on the back. It was spiralling out of control before you stepped in.--andreasegde (talk) 15:21, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Peer review page

I've just set this up. This would allow us to peer review Beatles related articles without clogging up the main Wikipedia peer review page. It will mean a faster review, and one by someone more familiar with the topic. It doesn't stop us from using the main peer review page, and I can't really think of a downside ¡ Dendodge|TalkContribs ! 17:29, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

I've made a couple of interface changes, and it's now fully functional - feel free to submit articles for review Dendodge|TalkContribs 21:13, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Looks very nice indeed.--andreasegde (talk) 19:56, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm glad someone likes it Dendodge|TalkContribs 20:05, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Not many people about at this time of year. As long as you think it's good, that's all that counts. Well done, Dendodge| :)--andreasegde (talk) 17:37, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Yellow Submarine (song)

Just so you know, Yellow Submarine (song) is up for an internal Beatles' project peer review. Dendodge|TalkContribs 20:58, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I have upgraded it to a B-class article. With a few more references, it could go for a GAR.--andreasegde (talk) 17:07, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Heather Mills

She is now a good article, even though Miss Mills herself would prefer a Featured article, no doubt... (Sarcasm is fatal)--andreasegde (talk) 16:17, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Ringo Starr

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Please go to Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles/Quiz for a quiz about The Beatles in general.

No inheritance to WikiProject Albums

Albums with the Beatles talk page banner {{WPBeatles}} do not currently get categorized in Category:WikiProject Albums articles, the categorization used by Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums. Could someone add the functionality so The Beatles albums are also categorized in the albums categories (namely Category:Album articles by importance and Category:Album articles by quality).

At least one extra parameter is needed for the importance rating, since the importance of the album to this project may be different than the album's importance to the albums project. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 02:48, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Original research on Shakespeare in I Am the Walrus article

I have expressed some concerns about original research in this passage from I Am the Walrus:

In an amazing coincidence, Lear IV.6. is the only scene in all of Shakespeare (out of more than a thousand) that features both English homonyms for "Beatle" (only one other scene, II.1. of Henry 6 II, features either of those words more than once).[2] [3] In other words, the Beatles randomly added, in "real time" "found art," in "found art,"[4] the only scene from Shakespeare that features both the words "beadle" and "beetle".[5] [6][7]

The first two citations are to a Shakespeare concordance that only produces statistical results by searching for words in Shakespeare's works. It does not discuss anything; it does not note the "amazing coincidence" between the song and Shakespeare. That is clearly original research and/or or synthesized research. Likewise, the remaining sources do not discuss "found art" in relation to this specific song, making the the second sentence also original or synthesized research.

An anon editor has persistently re-inserted this information with no substantive change, despite being given an explanation of original research and Wikipedia's policies about original research. Ward3001 (talk) 17:47, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

"In an amazing coincidence" made the hair on the back of my neck stand up in horror. Pure POV, or what? Time to point out something simple to someone.--andreasegde (talk) 20:19, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
It's all cobblers... A Beadle was a parish officer having various subordinate duties, as keeping order during services, waiting on the rector, etc. Shakespeare didn't have a dictionary, and spelt lots of words (sometimes 6 different ways) as he felt. The above theory is as good as saying that a kebab used to be a sheep.--andreasegde (talk) 20:33, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Canonicity of The Beatles at Shea Stadium

There is a minor spat at Magical Mystery Tour (film) as to whether it's preceded by the Shea Stadium documentary; certainly it is a film about The Beatles but it does not seem to have been officially released. Do we regard this as "A Beatles film" or not? Comments welcome. --Rodhullandemu 20:55, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Magic Alex

Is anyone brave enough to fill out the intro to three paragraphs, and then take it to a GA nomination? It's very well referenced, and is very interesting.--andreasegde (talk) 19:00, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

George Harrison or George Harold Harrison

There is some uncertainty over whether Harrison had a middle name. Dispute arises from a claim on shawstar.com that there is no Harold on Harrison's birth certificate, yet reliable sources give Harold as Harrison's middle name. New B-Class assessment scale!

Please check that all articles classified as B-Class have

|b1 = yes
|b2 = yes
|b3 = yes
|b4 = yes
|b5 = yes
|b6 = yes

as part of their {{WPBeatles}} banner - it doesn't do anything yet, but when all have been assessed, I will implement the scale. The criteria do not have to be too strict, just check that they pass WP:1.0/B. Thanks! Dendodge TalkContribs 16:33, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

I did them all last night (with a little help from my friend), and I've implemented the B-Class checklist - it's amazing how many articles were wrongly classified as B-Class: at least 3 redirects, 2 obvious stubs, some completely unsourced articles, and even a project space collection of trivia! As far as I know now, an article can't be assessed as B-Class without answering 'yes' to all the questions (but you can set GA, A and FA status, since these require the passing of an external review). There's also the possibility of an A-Class checklist - I'll look into that and see if that will make a decent improvement to the project. Dendodge TalkContribs 11:38, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Standardise importance?

We currently rate articles at whatever importance we feel like, so we have things everywhere. Here's my suggestion for a standardised scale - feel free to offer your own:

Top
High
  • Albums
  • Beatle wives
Mid
  • Songs
  • Other family members
Low
  • Anything else

I did this in about a minute, so it's probably not as well thought out as it could be - please suggest alterations before we implement this. Dendodge TalkContribs 11:57, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Milestone Announcements

  • All WikiProjects are invited to have their "milestone-reached" announcements automatically placed onto Wikipedia's announcements page.
  • Milestones could include the number of FAs, GAs or articles covered by the project.
  • No work need be done by the project themselves; they just need to provide some details when they sign up. A bot will do all of the hard work.

I thought this WikiProject might be interested. Ping me with any specific queries or leave them on the page linked to above. Thanks! - Jarry1250 (t, c) 22:23, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

I love the idea - if noone objects by tonight I'll add us - it won't have any adverse effects, so I see no need for a 'proper' gathering of consensus. Densock|Dendodgein public 12:25, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

How honoured is short-form citation style for books?

Regarding Wikipedia:WikiProject_The_Beatles#Citations, how active and/or honored is this guideline for short-form cites for books, ie what is covered at Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Shortened_footnotes? The recommended short form of "<ref>Lewisohn 2003 p23</ref>" is a bit harsh in having no space between the 'p' and the page number, and I notice a lot of variation/deviation away from that in The Beatles and in the four members' articles. Also I see some use of short titles rather than years, which to me has more mnemonic value if slightly less compact. I've looked through the archives for past discussion on this, but didn't see any, unless I missed it in all the "the/The" drama. I'm about to go through and get all of George Harrison's book cites in short form, so I want to know what's the best form to use. Wasted Time R (talk) 02:31, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Per Wikipedia guidelines, use whatever citation style you prefer, as long as it is consistently used throughout the article. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:11, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Potential good topic

Hi, everyone. I am not a contributor to articles related to The Beatles, but I think I should let this project know that there are a few potential good topics you guys can nominate. The following one is pretty close as 4 out of 5 have already achieved good article status:

Chris! ct 02:50, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

See User:Dendodge#To do - I've actually had a bigger one planned for some time. Dendodge TalkContribs 18:13, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
For a band topic, you'd need to include the discography article as well, as well as any other relevant subarticles. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:58, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Should I attempt to get The Beatles discography to FL, then? How close is it? Dendodge TalkContribs 12:15, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
It needs to be overhauled. For an example of a Featured List discography, see The Cure discography. WesleyDodds (talk) 04:13, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

American editions of albums

I would guess this has been discussed before (but I didn't find it), and I don't want to create an inordinate ruckus, but in looking at The Beatles navigation template and individual album pages I am very much bothered by the omission of the US album releases from the template. Prior to the release of cds, millions of American fans' knowledge of the Beatles came from their battered copies of Meet The Beatles!, The Beatles' Second Album, Beatles '65, etc. Of course they are not the "official" Beatle albums (and I have to say how exciting it was for me to buy vinyls of the "real" Beatles albums the first time I went to London in 1971), but I think we are doing a disservice to American fans and to the world of knowledge by not including these American editions in the nav box. If I'm looking at Please Please Me (the album), I want an easy way to navigate to the equivalent American album(s) and I want to see how they lined up and what their chronology was. I know the nav box is big, but I think adding a couple of lines won't hurt it, and it will be a significant improvement to our fine set of Beatles articles which right now tend to minimize the fact that the US played at least some tiny part in the fame and success of the band. Thoughts? Tvoz/talk 20:01, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

For me it was the publication of the Roy Carr/Tony Tyler book The Beatles: An Illustrated Record in 1975 (a best-seller in the US) that clued me in that the British sequencing was the one that made artistic sense, and after that I started buying the British LPs as imports or bringing them back from England trips. Indeed it was only after that that I started really liking early Beatles, because now the artistic development was clearer. Then when I finally got the British Rubber Soul, I was upset a bit in the other direction because it didn't have the same wonderful folk flavor that everyone knew from the US one. So yes, the different experiences are meaningful. As for templates, both Template:The Rolling Stones and Template:The Animals show US albums, with the Stones one showing the sequence (I should probably change the Animals one to do this too). And the Stones template is just as big as the Beatles one. So there is precedent for doing this. Wasted Time R (talk) 22:14, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
I looked further and see that the US editions were removed in October by an IP without any discussion or even edit summary - I have reinstated them. Someone might look at the other edits made on this template in that edit - I'm less familiar with the EPs but am not convinced they all should have been removed. Same IP also removed all of the US singles without discussion or edit summary Tvoz/talk 08:13, 26 February 2009 (UTC).
I think the EP handling is correct, just the two with original material. There was past discussion to this effect in Template talk:The Beatles. Wasted Time R (talk) 15:00, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
OK, that makes sense. I hadn't seen the EP discussion. Tvoz/talk 00:38, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:30, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Edit warring on Hey Jude

If anyone wishes to weigh in on a discussion I started on at Talk:Hey Jude#Jeremy and Marc Sinden in an attempt to avert an edit war, please take a look. Crowley666 has repeatedly added Jeremy and Marc Sinden as participants in the promotional video, claiming that they are the only two "positively identified" and "notable in their own right", which is true of other participants in the video. This clearly violates WP:WEIGHT and WP:N. He has edited a lot on articles for Jeremy and Marc Sinden, and I believe he's POV-pushing. He's not quite a WP:SPA, but it's close. Thanks. Ward3001 (talk) 03:12, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Legitimate Consensus on Hey Jude

A valid and interesting discussion about including or not including recently published facts (http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-life-features/liverpool-special-features/2009/03/06/marc-sinden-on-john-lennon-we-were-in-the-presence-of-god-92534-23077241/) in the Hey Jude page seems to have ground to a halt on a side-issue on sockpuppets, IP users (such as me!) and warnings over perceived personal attacks. Two editors feel that the facts presented and sourced are either not vaild and/or trivial and seem unwilling to justify their exclusion and repeated deleation. However, I have never seen this information published before and in spite of one editors assertion that other participants in the video have been identified previously, but will not say where or who (apart from insisting, without any proof, that Twiggy was in it - untrue according to the new source), I feel that it is important historically to include the information so that other Wiki community users can at least get to read it and make their own mind up, as opposed to having it made up for them. Can we please have a consensus of editors to make a decision on this issue? 94.194.100.228 (talk) 18:49, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

So you can make an informed decision, the following is the 'offending' paragraph that is constantly deleated: The Beatles hired Michael Lindsay-Hogg to shoot the "Hey Jude" promotional film (he had previously directed a 'promo' film for "Paperback Writer") and they settled on the idea of filming with a live, albeit controlled audience. Hogg shot the film at Twickenham Film Studios on 4 September 1968, with McCartney himself designing the set. Tony Bramwell, a friend of the Beatles, later described the set as "the piano, there; drums, there; and orchestra in two tiers at the back." The event is also memorable as it marked Starr's return to the group after a two-week hiatus, during which he had announced that he had left the band.[1] The eventual, final film was a combination of several different takes (twelve having been filmed during the entire days session, according to the actor Marc Sinden who was in the film along with his brother Jeremy)[2][3] and included filmed 'introductions' to the song by David Frost (who introduced the Beatles as "the greatest tea-room orchestra in the world")[4] and Sir Cliff Richard, for their respective, eponymous TV programmes.[2] As filming wore on, Lennon repeatedly asked Lindsay-Hogg if he had the footage he needed. After twelve takes, McCartney said, "I think that's enough" and filming concluded.[2] It was first aired on 8 September 1968 and the film was later broadcast for the United States on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour on 6 October 1968.[5] Footage of the performance can be seen in the Anthology DVD series and on YouTube. 94.194.100.228 (talk) 19:18, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
The discussion should probably continue over at Talk:Hey Jude. (John User:Jwy talk) 19:22, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Note that the much larger issue here is sockpuppetry and vote-stacking, regardless of whether the information about the Sindens should be included. This particular information was subject to extensive sockpuppetry by Captainclegg by use of numerous sockpuppets. Once this was discovered Captainclegg was initially blocked, but the blocking admin agreed to unblock after Captainclegg promised to never be a puppetmaster again. Then, after a new discussion began on the issue, Captainclegg promised to stay out of it (which he did not do), and comments from multiple IPs with few or no other edits beyond that issue, all located in a restricted geographic range, began appearing in the discussion. Some of us have become very concerned that there might be ongoing sockpuppetry. Another editor and I have suggested restricting any consensus decision to registered editors. I welcome comments on Talk:Hey Jude from registered editors involved in WikiProject The Beatles. And once again, I emphasize that the larger issue (sockpuppetry and the integrity of Wikipedia) is of much greater concern than the specific contents of Hey Jude. If sockpuppetry can sway a discussion on this article, it could then spread to other Beatles-related articles. Thanks. Ward3001 (talk) 19:35, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

and once again, we are discussing items not relevent to the article... 94.194.100.228 (talk) 19:39, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

and it should be pointed out that Ward3001's "restricted geographic range" is LONDON! Quite "restricted"! 94.194.100.228 (talk) 13:49, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Wrong. Sockpuppetry and vote-stacking are issues that are relevant to any Wikipedia article. Methinks thou doth protest too much. Ward3001 (talk) 19:41, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Right, I'm getting seriously ticked off here. I am being accused of being behind everything. Any moment now I fully expect to be accused of being behind Kennedys assassination! On 9 March I admitted to having "multiple accounts". I had made a mistake, I apologized publicly and gave my word that I would not repeat such a stupid action. I was unblocked the following day. I have kept to my word. Now (15 March) I read that Ward3001 is STILL going on about it. If I register my legitimate vote (as I did) on the Hey Jude matter I am accused of getting involved and if I stay silent (which I had done) I am accused obliquely of being behind every IP user who has an opinion on the subject at hand on Wikipedia. I can't win. I am NOT a puppetmaster. I am NOT running any sockpuppets. I do NOT have multiple accounts any more. I have NEVER edited other than through my account. I am NOT, as I have said before, Mobydick or any IP addresses shown in this debate. I am NOT responsible for anyone else’s opinion on this debate. If someone could please tell me how I can prove that I am not anyone else, I would be very grateful. Ward3001: On the 11 March you responded to the administrator Lucasbfr that you “don't have it in for Captainclegg”. Your subsequent and continued attacks show this not to be accurate. This is grotesquely unfair, unwarranted and now getting to the point of a personal attack and harassment. I am sure that this must be an offence in the Wiki community. If anyone knows the specific offence, will they please let me know? In any other media I would have recourse to the law... Some of the community seemingly disagree with your standpoint. Don’t impotently blame me for that. It’s not my fault. Get over it - please! It is a distraction from what should be being discussed. Captainclegg (talk) 20:55, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

I find it incredible that a half-dozen or more IP editors are all worked up over an inconsequential paragraph in the "Hey Jude" article. None have any edits except to talk pages about this issue. That's very suspicious, and while they may or may not be IP puppets, they clearly have a shared agenda.
Meanwhile, after a sockpuppet investigation where multiple accounts were confirmed to be controlled by Captainclegg, he admitted to being a puppet master. His claim above that "I have NEVER edited other than through my account" is a lie; he most certainly did edit using other accounts, and was involved in a few other minor skirmishes while using those accounts. He apparently does not understand how serious an offense this is. It's going to take a long time for me to trust him or his edits and I think he should stay completely out of the "Hey Jude" debate.
My comments about how I think we should proceed with "Hey Jude" are on the Talk:Hey Jude page. — John Cardinal (talk) 22:17, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Clegg, get ticked off all you want. You have a lot brazen insolence just saying something like that about issues on Talk:Hey Jude, the very article that you decided to commit some of the worst policy violations possible on Wikipedia. I don't consider you a part of that discussion, and as I have told you on your talk page, you hung yourself; no one did it to you. You want to know what is "grotesquely unfair": Your horrific sockpuppety. "Get over it"? You get over it. Stop whining and move on to something else. Take your own advice and stay out of this. You didn't get your way by your incredible sockpuppetry, and you're not getting your way by complaining here. And that's my last comment to you here unless you violate other Wikipedia policies. In my opinion, you don't exist here or on Talk:Hey Jude. Ward3001 (talk) 21:22, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Anyone reading this can see how pathetic and puerile this tit-for-tat so-called debate has become. To the last two editors: You are sounding like a couple of schoolyard bullies ganging up on the new boy and I am waiting for one of you to stick your tongue out and go 'ya-boo-sucks'. Let it go! When you boys have finally finished throwing your toys out of the pram, perhaps we could get back to the real discussion? It is somewhat more interesting... 94.194.100.228 (talk) 13:32, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

You continue to protest too much. Why is it that you are so pushy about the way Clegg is treated when he's the one who was the "bully" when he was committing all kinds of horrible policy violations? Why are you and Clegg both so pushy about the Sindens? Let's see ... I wonder why an anon with no edits except this issue of the Sindens in the Hey Jude article is so obsessed with the way Clegg is treated (the poor thing), the one who engaged in disgraceful sockpuppetry regarding the Sindens in the Hey Jude article??? Hmm ... I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure this one out. Ward3001 (talk) 22:04, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

I said at the top of this article, when asking for a wider consensus, that the main issue on the Talk:Hey Jude page was being muddied with peripheral arguments that two editors were apparently unwilling to leave aside and I see that they are just proving my point on this page as well, plus the note Ward3001 has now left on my talk page warning that he will block me. I am not going to waste time and lower myself to respond to his peculiar statements, beligerent attitude, threats and inaccurate insinuations regarding me and/or Clegg (who, for the final time I am NOT connected with) but his constant, obsessive fixation with sockpuppetry conspiracy has yet again meant that he has not read what I had written in the Talk:Hey Jude page. Namely, that I am not interested in the Sinden’s inclusion per se, but the knowledge that the source brings us (and no, I am NOT connected with the Sinden’s or the Liverpool Post either). Other editors seem to have appreciated this and agreed. Do please check the detail before you make any more erroneous accusations. If however he does see his threat through and block me from participating, which I believe to be his intention, I trust in the integrity of other Wiki users to keep up the fight to allow accurate, sourced knowledge to be published. Some have already contacted me and that fills me with hope and pride. 94.194.100.228 (talk) 15:13, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

My response is here. Ward3001 (talk) 16:00, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Whoah, the cat's out of the bag on this one.--andreasegde (talk) 10:31, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

as someone who was also 'pistol-whipped' by Ward3001 for being a IP editor (my choice) and a sock-puppet to the universe im pleased this is "out of the bag" too. something is very wrong here and if 94.194.100.228's prediction happens i,ll be on the case. ps im sending a note to your other ip address 86.133.199.210 (talk) 16:06, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

My goodness. Another anon with edits ... let's see ... yep! No edits except here and on Talk:Hey Jude about ... let's see ... yep! About the Sindens. What a coincidence!!! And calling me "fatuous" here is acceptable pistol-whipping, right? Ward3001 (talk) 16:38, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I have just included a factual, uncontentious, compromise version of the Promo film paragraph to suit all tastes. The Sindens name has been removed but the source retained, just as 94.194.100.228 suggested. All editors: Please watch to see what happens next and if it is just the facts that are being suppressed for unexplained reasons. I say no more. 65.48.132.153 (talk) 12:46, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

GA Sweeps invitation

This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.

We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.

If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! P.S. Love Me Do

I was just going through the MPL catalog to see what kinds of songs they have the publishing rights to, and I came across a song called "P.S. Love Me Do". It turns out to be a medley of "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You", performed almost a capella by Paul McCartney by Paul McCartney without him playing an instrument, apparently during a 1990 concert (tour?). It's an interesting tidbit, but there isn't an article about it, it doesn't look like there's any mention of it anywhere, either. (I only had a quick glance, so I could be wrong on that point.) Just thought I'd let everyone know. Gordon P. Hemsley 06:56, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Changes to popular pages lists

There are a few important changes to the popular pages system. A quick summary:

  • The "importance" ranking (for projects that use it) will be included in the lists along with assessment.
  • The default list size has been lowered to 500 entries (from 1000)
  • I've set up a project on the Toolserver for the popular pages - tools:~alexz/pop/.
    • This includes a page to view the results for projects, including the in-progress results from the current month. Currently this can only show the results from a single project in one month. Features to see multiple projects or multiple months may be added later.
    • This includes a new interface for making requests to add a new project to the list.

GA reassessment of Astrid Kirchherr

I have reassessed the above article and found a few concerns which are at Talk:Astrid Kirchherr/GA1. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 16:14, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Fixed.--andreasegde (talk) 16:58, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Genre Changes

Hi everyone. I recently started to edit here, and I've noticed that there's been a lot of contention over the genre(s) listed in the infobox for The Beatles, various songs and albums, and also the members of the band. You're probably all aware of this, but this page may be a good place for a centralized discussion of the issue. Deserted Cities 15:53, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

GA reassessment of Cynthia Lennon

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found some concerns with the article which you can see at Talk:Cynthia Lennon/GA1. I have placed the article on hold whilst these are fixed. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 00:26, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

You should read his review and spot the awful spelling mistakes.--andreasegde (talk) 07:53, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

I have cleaned it it and have nominated it again.--andreasegde (talk) 09:15, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Archive Bots

I'm upset with whomever decided to make use to the archive bots to archive the talk pages, both here and at Talk:The Beatles. Strangely, they're not even the same bots! Either way, though, the bots do incremental archiving, which just makes things really hard to follow because they don't do it in any logical grouping. They simply wait for some threads to get old or some archive pages to get to a certain size threshold, and then they just archive random bits. Because it's an automated system, it makes mistakes when guessing where one section starts, and another one begins. And, as if that weren't bad enough, at least one of the bots went back and "consolidated" the archives that I had done by hand. This just screws up the history even more.

I don't know what to propose to make things better, as it would be quite a burden to go back and fix things by hand. I know how tedious it is to do it by hand, and I know that I'm obviously not always around to do it, but I am here to express my disdain for the new status quo. Gordon P. Hemsley 21:04, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Those considering this question may wish to take into account this bot problem that occurred today. Some manual archiving is said to be needed in relation to certain page content. PL290 (talk) 15:22, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Apple Records discography

I notice the Apple Records discography is listed here as requiring a cleanup. I recently did a complete revamp of the article and would be interested to know what the WikiProject members think about it. Can anymore be done to improve it? Would be interested to know what your thoughts are. Jordansongs 00:40, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Current events portal

I've added a note the to the current events portal entry for today. It may need to be spruced up with more direct wikilinks or better verbiage or sources. Gordon P. Hemsley 18:08, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

No controversy over omitted material in the Mono set?

I posted the following at The Beatles in Mono and am cross-posting it here, too: Considering the costs of the box sets, I'm surprised there's no controversy over the fact the Mono set omits the DVD bonus, as well as the remaining albums. Stereo or mono notwithstanding, it forces people to spend hundreds more if they want a complete canon, or having to deal with the stereo versions and skip this one if they want the full set plus the DVD. (I know when the boxes were announced I assumed the Mono set would include the mono mixes where applicable both otherwise be complete; when I found out otherwise I didn't bother buying either set). And in some places - Amazon.com for certain - the mono set is more expensive. Hasn't there been any criticism as to how this was handled? If so, it should be noted. On a related note, I have heard anecdotally that the Beatles releases are being called the last hurrah for the CD format. This too needs to be included in both this article and the Stereo set article, if a source can be located, of course. 68.146.81.123 (talk) 15:07, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Side selections

Someone is screwing up the side selections for the individual Beatle albums. For example with Magical Mystery Tour an editor insists on making the first track of side two selection 7 when it obviously should be selection 1. I have never seen a side two label which lists the first track as number 7. Please monitor the album articles to make sure each side begins with track one. Steelbeard1 (talk) 16:27, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

I think it may be the CD issues that are causing someone to think this change should be made, as CDs of course don't have two sides. A quick glance at my old 1987 Sgt. Pepper shows tracks 1-13, and Revolver shows tracks 1-14. Perhaps some kind of note (or hidden comment) should be made in the articles, explaining that the side selections relate to the vinyl originally issued. PL290 (talk) 17:43, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Someone is trying to make MMT an original British LP.

Despite a warning given to User talk:96.250.145.195, he is still counting Magical Mystery Tour as an original British LP. Please monitor the individual British Beatle album articles to make sure he does not correct the album numbering sequence again. Steelbeard1 (talk) 11:24, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Live! at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962 GA Review

The article has been assessed for GA status and simply needs the lead expanding to meet the requirements in WP:Lead, and some additional background information to explain more fully the presence of The Beatles in Hamburg. I am putting the article on hold for seven days to allow this to be done. The nominator and main contributor has not logged Wikipedia since 16 September. If I get time I will do the work myself, but I am currently quite busy on and off wiki, and any assistance would be welcome. SilkTork *YES! 12:48, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

The work has been done and the article is now a Good Article. SilkTork *YES! 12:35, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Book:Beatles vs. Book:The Beatles

Currently these seem to be overlapping and the scope of these article collections are ill-defined. Should one be merged with the other? Should they be renamed to something which makes their scope clear? Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 05:18, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:50, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Rubber Soul

I'm currently working on the Rubber Soul article, and I've reached something of a dilemma. I own only a few books on The Beatles, and, consequently, my coverage of the subject is far short of definitive. Many statements made in the article lack citations, and as much as I'd like to add them, I simply cannot find enough sources to back up the claims made. Would anyone who has a more extensive library consider collaborating with me on the article? Please contact me here or on my talk page if interested. Many thanks. - I.M.S. Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

Please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Beatles Complete On Ukulele The project's to-do box doesn't list AfDs, so I figured I would post it here. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 00:59, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

The Beatles Box

Most of this article's text appears to be lifted from the third reference (Calkin) which has a copyright notice at the bottom of the page. I'm not in a position to fix it myself, so I'm bringing it up here for anyone who can. Thanks! ReverendWayne (talk) 17:10, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Mimi Smith GA Sweeps: On Hold

I have reviewed Mimi Smith for GA Sweeps to determine if it still qualifies as a Good Article. In reviewing the article I have found several issues, which I have detailed here. Since the article falls under the scope of this project, I figured you would be interested in contributing to further improve the article. Please comment there to help the article maintain its GA status. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Happy editing! FAR: Real Love (John Lennon song)

I have nominated Real Love (John Lennon song) for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. --Plotfeat (talk) 19:27, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Copyright violation: File:Lennon&mccartney.png

An admin has determined that File:Lennon&mccartney.png appears to be a copyvio of a photograph by Linda McCartney, and has nominated it for deletion. Having looked at the evidence provided by the admin, I have to say I agree, and I've responded to that effect. If anyone has evidence to the contrary and wishes to contest the deletion, please do so. Get rid of article to-do lists?

Is it time to clear out the article to-do lists? Unless used regularly and kept current, they're likely to do more harm than good when well-meaning new editors look at them for the first time. There's such a lot of random old stuff on there from days gone by. For instance, these excerpts from Talk:Paul_McCartney/to_do:

  • Paul's drumming is not notable IMHO.
  • ABOVE LIST NEEDS TO BE CHECKED AND COMPLETED ITEMS REMOVED
  • Why is the first page a list of his records? Records covered at length below.
  • 'Keen football fan' - hardly. None of the Beatles were big football fans. Macca has suggested he's a fan of both Liverpool and Everton, but this is more local diplomacy rather than a genuine enthusiasm for the game. Sentence needs removing.
  • What happened to the text on the Ram/Imagine episode? I thought I'd put some in?

I question how many editors actually look at the to-do list anyway. The transclusion means it doesn't automatically get watchlisted with the talk page. Are there any articles where the to-do list is actually put to good use? I propose we clear them out and simply use the discussion pages to progress any improvement suggestions that come up. PL290 (talk) 19:23, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

"*'Keen football fan' - hardly. None of the Beatles were big football fans. Macca has suggested he's a fan of both Liverpool and Everton, but this is more local diplomacy rather than a genuine enthusiasm for the game. Sentence needs removing."

"It was well known that McCartney was a supporter of Everton Football Club, and that his father and relatives used to take him to matches.[196][197]" Two references. Yes, two. The sentence does not need removing.

"Lennon and McCartney were present to watch the 1966 FA Cup Final at Wembley, between Everton and Sheffield Wednesday, and McCartney attended the 1968 FA Cup Final (18 May 1968) which was played by West Bromwich Albion against Everton.[203] After the end of the match, McCartney shared cigarettes and whisky with other football fans.[202] The ex-Liverpool player, Albert Stubbins, was the only footballer shown on the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band cover.[197]"

Stop putting your own spin on it. It was as it was. If you were British, you would know what football means, and it's not called soccer.

"this is more local diplomacy rather than a genuine enthusiasm for the game". Don't make me laugh. --andreasegde (talk) 19:38, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
