Ref DesksEdit

I am taking a break from the Reference Desks and have removed them from my watchlist for the time being. It only takes a couple of idiots to spoil things for others. DuncanHill (talk) 09:11, 23 September 2019 (UTC)

Just FYI, I spent perhaps 45 minutes looking for the (anonymous) source of that Rowse quote and found zilch. That's actually unusual; there's almost always something. But Rowse apparently was forever silent about the source, at least in public. [I did find a "weaned on a pickle" quote about Chamberlain, but that wasn't what you were looking for.] Cheers. ♦ Lingzhi2 (talk) 13:59, 25 September 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for trying. DuncanHill (talk) 14:00, 25 September 2019 (UTC)

Re: DalecarlianEdit

Hi, I intentionally didn't delete the talk page because I copy-and-paste moved its contents to the new location, and needed to keep the history around for attribution purposes. Didn't want to do a history merge either since it would mess up diffing. Honestly I've forgotten how to handle cases like these, any guidance would be appreciated. east718 | talk | 15:52, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Looks like someone else moved the talk page and nuked the old talkpage in the process, wasn't much worth saving there anyway. east718 | talk | 16:08, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
If you need help with history merges then WP:HELPDESK or WP:VPT are probably good places to start. DuncanHill (talk) 14:41, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

Herbert VivianEdit

Hi Duncan, thank you for helping with the Herbert Vivian article, which I'm currently trying to get to GA. I've reverted your change to the Who Was Who reference, because the link generated by the {{Who's Who}} template is a 404. It looks like the template may not be generating the correct syntax for Who Was Who entries? The Mirror Cracked (talk) 19:50, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

That's very odd, it's always worked up to now. DuncanHill (talk) 20:22, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
Figured it out. It works if you use the doi parameter instead of id. Thanks again for the help, I hadn't seen the {{tl:Who's Who}} template before, so it was a real improvement - once I'd got it working! Best, The Mirror Cracked (talk) 02:42, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
It should be fixed now to work with the article number - I asked at the Village Pump/technical. I like the template as it gives the information about UK library cards giving access. There's a similar template for the ODNB too. DuncanHill (talk) 08:43, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
