Technical news
- As previously noted, tighter password requirements for Administrators were put in place last year. Wikipedia should now alert you if your password is less than 10 characters long and thus too short.
Arbitration
- The 2019 CheckUser and Oversight appointment process has begun. The community consultation period will take place October 4th to 10th.
- The arbitration case regarding Fram was closed. While there will be a local RfC
focus[ing] on how harassment and private complaints should be handled in the future
, there is currently a global community consultation on partial and temporary office actions in response to the incident. It will be open until October 30th.
Miscellaneous
- The Community Tech team has been working on a system for temporarily watching pages, and welcomes feedback.

I was paid by the Vivo team to write the Kevin George page, I did not work with Yaarann on this project At ALL. - @Djt7572: In that case, you need to explain why your article uses literally the same text as theirs in many places - word-for-word. hi Yunshui. Would you mind watching this for a bit? Every now and then an IP (or IPs) shows up to try and remove unfavorable sourced content and add favorable unsourced content to the article. I've already gone to WP:RPP but I'm not sure how that will turn out. I'm guessing that the person(s) behind the account(s) most likely have a COI (perhaps its even the subject of the article himself) and previous attempts to try and get them to discuss on the article's talk page always received no response. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:29, 11 October 2019 (UTC)

Regarding [1], I think there would be some people who think you are being anti-semitic by conflating a topic ban on anti-semitism and the Holocaust with ... Israel. There was a Twitter account harassing people for that, but thankfully it has been suspended. - I am not conflating anything with anything else; Sir Joseph asked me to explain why I thought the block for violating his topic ban was set at one month rather than a shorter length, and I offered some possible reasons why the users who contributed to the discussion might have felt that his previous blocks were relevant. Believe it or not, I kinda sympathised with the guy - note the past tense, there: he'd clearly rather pick a fight with me than deal with the actual reason for the block, and he's welcome to do so, but I'm past caring and don't expect or intend to engage any further with the discussion on his talkpage.Yunshui 雲水 22:35, 11 October 2019 (UTC)

I have been aware that some of the kids at my school have been vandalizing Wikipedia, and during class I was talking about my message to Diannaa, and I could have sworn that some one acted by making the profane name "dianaasucks" in response to that. - It appears to have been created solely for the purpose of adding links to the organisation's website, so no, I don't think a block is at all inappropriate. They are clearly not here to contribute. They cannot edit under that username in any case, and will need to change it before they can return to editing, but the block also alerts them to the fact that such edits are unwelcome. We have a horrific problem with promotional editing on Wikipedia, and I can tell you - from long and bitter experience - that it is almost never worth the time and effort involved to explain to every single one of these editors why what they are doing is not permitted. They are welcome to change their username, address the reasons for the block, and return to editing - I keep an eye on users whom I have blocked for spam usernames and promotional editing, and will unblock them myself if they post a suitable unblock request - but they cannot edit here as long as their goal is to bump up their site's SEO rankings by inserting links into Wikipedia. I understand why the ANI was closed in that way, but the WP:CONSPIRACY-like response you got to your post on Saqiwa’s user talk and then their subsequently copying-and-pasting of that thread onto various article talk pages kinda further indicates more of a WP:RGW approach to editing than a WP:HERE. Saqiwa’s been advised not to copy-paste entire discussions from one talk to another like this before, but for some reason they continue to do so. — Marchjuly (talk) 06:31, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
- Posting on those pages is a very obvious violation of his topic ban, so he now has a couple of days off to enjoy. I fear you may have been right about the imposition of the TBAN being equivalent to an indef, but the consensus wasn't solidly in favour of a block and I wanted to at least give him the chance to avoid taking a permanent vacation from editing... - I think that they might be able to contribute positively if they just stopped assuming that everyone who challenges one of their edits has to be doing so because of some Wikipedia conspiracy against Fiji. It would also help if they could realize that Wikipedia is not really the best way to try and resolve any real world disputes or differences of opinion about how Fiji is covered by reliable sources. Perhaps, this short block will give them time to reflect; otherwise, I think suggesting WP:ALTERNATIVE might be the only thing that can be done to try and help them further. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:26, 26 October 2019 (UTC)
- I thought this would probably happen, but they are back editing Fiji articles now that their block has run out. - Yeah, looks like you were right. I've made the usual escalation to 72 hours, but if they go straight back to editing Fiji articles after that - given that they haven't even attempted to edit anything else - I think the next block would be justified in being a straight jump to indef. - @Seifeldawy: Absolutely not, and I have deleted it again. You simply cannot write that way on Wikipedia; the entire draft was nothing more than a laudatory paean to how amazing the subject is. You also haven't addressed the fact that you clearly know the subject in some capacity, and are most likely doing this as one of his employees; if you do not settle that question you are likely to be blocked from editing. The first is that Wikipedia articles aren't owned by their subjects, their creators, or even those who edit them as explained in Wikipedia:Ownership of content; in others words, any article you create about your school will not be the school's Wikipedia page, but rather a Wikipedia article written about the school. This is an important thing for you and the school to understand because neither you nor it will have any final editorial control over the article and it can, in principle, be edited by anyone from anywhere around the world at anytime. So, if the school wants to have 100% control over what's written about it, Wikipedia isn't the right place for that. Only content which is in accordance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines will be consider acceptable and anything else will be likely removed.In addition, you and anyone associated with the school will for the most part be expected to not directly edit the article yourselves, but instead propose changes be made on the article's talk page for others to assess.The next thing is that only subjects considered to be Wikipedia notable are really only allowed to have articles written about them. The fact that the school exists and has it's own websites, etc. is not sufficient to establish Wikipedia notability; it needs to have received significant coverage in reliable sources which are independent and secondary. In other words, Wikipedia is not really interested in what the school is saying about itself, but rather what others such as major newspapers or magazines, etc. are saying about it.The last thing is that all article content is going to be expected to supported by citations to reliable sources and that which isn't can be removed at any time. You may personally know lots of information about the school that is true, but such content will not be allowed in the article unless it can be verified by others.Finally, one thing I noticed above is that you wrote

- I've been through his page creations under that account and deleted most of them. A few, including Iona College Pipe Band, had sufficient contributions from others that I felt G5 wouldn't apply, but in the majority of cases, all of the content was his barring a few minor categorisations or typo fixes - those ones have been removed. Not really decided on the images - they aren't really "his" work, as such, and so there's a case to be made that we should hang on to them. The ones at Commons are out of my jurisdiction anyway. - Thank you for taking a look. I think that MHist101 and myself were the only real contributors to the pipe band article, and I was mostly doing cleanup and trying to find more sources. I can't really clean it up anymore, and I've been unable to find any better sourcing; so, I was thinking about sending it to AfD. I asked about it on some WikiProject talk pages, but nobody seemed to suggest any ways to improve it or where to find better sources. I and I believe others were willing to give MHist101 some more time to try and provide better sources in show of good faith, but that's unlikely to happen now. I understand that articles can sometimes be improved as a result of them ending up at AfD, but I don't think it's really good practice just to nominate something on the hope that others may improve it. At the same time, I don't think that WP:NEXIST is intended to be an excuse for keeping a iffy article, especially when WP:BEFORE has been tried and no sources have been found. - An RfC on the administrator resysop criteria was closed. 18 proposals have been summarised with a variety of supported and opposed statements. The inactivity grace period within which a new request for adminship is not required has been reduced from three years to two. Additionally, Bureaucrats are permitted to use their discretion when returning administrator rights.
- Following a proposal, the edit filter mailing list has been opened up to users with the Edit Filter Helper right.
Technical news
- Wikimedia projects can set a default block length for users via MediaWiki:ipb-default-expiry. A new page, MediaWiki:ipb-default-expiry-ip, allows the setting of a different default block length for IP editors. Neither is currently used. (T219126)

He even deleted the discussion from his talk page when one of the admins warned him[[6]][[7]]. User:SpacemanSpiff just simply blamed me of adding honorifics but the fact is I have never added any honorific. In fact, after this discussion, I only removed the honorifics from Tulsi Pujan Diwas page which other editors had added[[8]]. And "whatever" content is there in Tulsi Pujan Page it has proper news website references. So there is no point in simply terming them as "promotional". How come news references are promotional? I don't see that there's any action needed by me here. Both of you need to calm down and discuss this like rational adults. @Amicable always: Removal of talkpage warnings on one's own talkpage is not indicative of anything other than that the message has been seen; such removals are completely within policy. Whether the article should exist or not is a matter for discussion; my personal opinion is that it would be better as a few extra lines in the Tulsi article, assuming that you can provide suitable sources. Mentioning that it was started by Asaram Bapu is acceptable if sources demonstrate that it was, but the language you use need to be toned down; "began with the inspiration of" is not sufficiently neutral. Given that you have, by my count, three editors telling you that your additions were not appropriate, two of whom are extremely experienced, you may want to consider that perhaps they might have a point. @Gumshoe97: Personal attacks are never acceptable here; your comments on Amicable always' talkpage were way over the line and I've half a mind to issue a block for them. By all means discuss content and dispute the inclusion or exclusion of articles, but use language like that against another user again and you will see the wrong end of a block notice, from me or another admin. Take a breath, remember that this is only a website, and calm down. Please provide an explanation for the deletion of the Eurohound page
I am involved with the mushing community heavily. My partner has been breeding and racing Eurohounds for almost 25 years. They are a specific cross-breed produced for a very niche reason, Sprint Sled Dog Racing. They were initially cross-bred in Scandanavia in the 80's specifically for this purpose. I know they exist because they continue to dominate the Sprint Sled Dog World to this day. No, they are not an AKC breed because they are not American. They are bred around the world and created initially in Scandinavia. I looked at the discussion page, and not a single person involved in that discussion appears to have any contact with the mushing community. If you had asked the community, you would have quickly learned that they are a prevalent breed in the sport.
As a member of the Eurohound community, I would like the page returned to its former status. It is visited often by members of the community, and was noticed the day it was deleted by just that community.
I, fortunately, understand enough about Wikipedia to know how to contact you about this issue and what to do to get the page restored.
Please contact me directly, and I will be happy to provide any information that you require.
If you don't have actual evidence that the breed does not exist, then I would appreciate it if you would restore the page on that fact alone.

- The article was deleted after a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eurohound, which was closed after being open for two weeks with a clear policy-based consensus to delete the page. If you'd like to contest the close, you can do so at Deletion review. However, convincing me of the validity of the article is pointless - I did not unilaterally decide to delete it, I simply pressed the button after assessing the community's view, as expressed through the deletion discussion.
