Help edit

Hey you asked me to add those external Links to the External Links Section & go by the guidelines of Wiki which you linked and I read everything about Linking & External Links and how everything needs to be formatted. I followed all instructions and then another Admin who is being dishonest has lied and removed the external Links having some type of personal effect to what it was related to I can only assume considering the links were related to Electronic Harassment & Gangstalking which can clearly be reviewed and inv3estigated if I can get some other Admins involved who are honest. I would still like to add the external links they are relevant you can check them and they should be there on that page in Wiki this is important information that is not included or available and ads to the learning experience of Electronic Harassment and Ganstalking adding actual information on what a Targeted Individual is when it comes to Electronic Harassment, All the info is on that website I tried to link externally. I do research on the topic and felt it was worthy of adding. Please help me remove these false reports against me by this dishonest lying false accusation making Wiki Admin. I want to appeal and hold this person responsible for being dishonest and I have all the proof to back it up and to prove the external link I added was relevant and in need of supply considering its crucial information that is not provided by the thread or page. Credible information. Here is the URL -https://maininfo.wixsite.com/gangstalking — Preceding unsigned comment added by ResilientWiki (talkcontribs) 19:06, 6 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Talkback edit

Blade, I am writing you as an Administrator because of your listed interest in Metal Bands. I am trying to find the deleted page of Christophe Szpajdel, not a musician but has created thousands of logos

https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Christophe_"Volvox"_Szpajdel/75355

(something in "Volvox"_Szpajdel/75355 this url is conflicting with wiki text)

for metal, black metal and death metal bands. Any help or advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Christophe Szpajdel has had numerous exhibitions including the Walker Art Center, been featured in publications including Vice and Wired among others. He has an existing Wikipedia page in German , Polish and japanese.

I am interested in RE-creating an English page for him, his page was deleted and I would like to put one up within the guidelines. Any help / advice / input would be appreciated.

Thank you user = Dhaddonpearson — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhaddonpearson (talkcontribs) 22:32, 7 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Administrator nomination edit

Good evening. I saw you are listed on the list of editors who are willing to nominate users for administrator permissions, and I am here to ask for your opinion on my chances of success. I've been editing Wikipedia for nearly 10 years now, and I have mainly focused on fighting vandalism (a broad term, I know) and new page patrolling.

Over the years I have gained enough trust to earn a number of permissions including rollback, reviewer, autopatrolled, and more recently patroller. You may note that over the past few years my edit count has dropped, sometimes quite significantly, however I have always tried to maintain a presence on the project and a good knowledge of the policies.

I am always willing to own up to mistakes I have or may make. It was a life lesson for me a few years ago that you absolutely do learn from your mistakes, and this has since become a mantra for me. As such, my edit history has nothing to hide. Please feel free to browse through, and I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have, and as I know this is a huge favour to ask from a volunteer I thank you in advance for your thoughts. The future of NPP and AfC/Work group edit

Hi The Blade of the Northern Lights,

In view of the huge and sudden backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed since mid 2016, the WMF has begun a dialogue in a quest to examine the situation and possible solutions. Please consider commenting there if you have not already done so. It is highly recommended to read it all before it becomes too long to follow. The project is at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Analysis and proposal, and its talk page.

Re: Gurbaksh Chahal edit

Hi there, it seems like there has been a lot of trolling to my wikipedia page Gurbaksh Chahal and you have banned it for 1 year. Can you revert this so it can go back to the hands of actual contributors who can fix it from the incorrect information currently on the page which further projects vandalism. The fact you banned it for one-year from editing is just exacerbating the current situation for me.

Metropolitan Museum of Art Edit-a-thon (Nov 19) and global online Wikipedia Asian Art Month (Nov 1-30) edit

Sunday November 19, 10:30 am - 4:00pm: Metropolitan Museum of Art Edit-a-thon

The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be the Metropolitan Museum of Art's second edit-a-thon, hosted on Sunday November 19, 2017 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City.

Following the first Met edit-a-thon in May 2017, the museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse Asian collections onsite and remotely.

10:30 am - 4:00 pm in Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Uris Center for Education
81st Street entrance, Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue

Attendees should bring their own laptops and power cords. Light snacks, drinks and cake will be provided.

Scunthorpe problem edit

The last bullet point in Scunthorpe problem § Refused web domain names and email addresses previously read

  • In July 2008, Dr. Herman I. Libshitz was initially unable to get the e-mail address he wanted from Verizon because it contained the substring shit. A spokesperson commented: "As a general rule (since 2005) Verizon doesn't allow questionable language in e-mail addresses, but we can, and do, make exceptions based on reasonable requests. The one from Dr. and Mrs. Libshitz certainly is reasonable and we regret the inconvenience and frustration they've been caused."

You deleted the spokesperson's comment with the edit summary "Who cares?", leaving the paragraph as

  • In July 2008, Dr. Herman I. Libshitz was initially unable to get the e-mail address he wanted from Verizon because it contained the substring shit.

That's inadequate.

  1. The quotation explains that the company's policy isn't absolute. That's important.
  2. Even if you don't care, other readers may. I do, for one, because Verizon did allow this request after, apparently, an appeal and explanation by Dr. Libshitz.

So I have reverted your change. I marked it as "vandalism" because of your "Who cares?", and because I hadn't yet come to this page and seen your header, which is certainly not the style of a scribbling vandal. I apologize for this; I should have assumed good faith. If I knew a way to remove that tag, I would.

If you want to discuss this, please reply here and {{Ping}} me. --Thnidu (talk) 07:39, 18 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Thnidu: I removed it in keeping with other explanations on that page; it doesn't really have anything to do with the article subject, namely software filters misfiring. Some time ago a bunch of these had long-winded comments from spokesmen, but editors excised them due to the aforementioned points. ACTRIAL - next steps for the Future of AfC & NPP edit

Hello The Blade of the Northern Lights, thank you for your efforts reviewing New Page and AfC submissions and your support for the ACTRIAL initiative.

The conclusion to the ACTRIAL report commissioned by the Wikimedia Foundation strongly reiterates our long-time on going requirements for the NPP and AfC processes to be improved. Within minutes of the trial being switched off, the feed was swamped with inappropriate creations and users are being blocked already.
This is now the moment to continue to collaborate with the WMF and their developers to bring the entire Curation system up to date by making a firm commitment to addressing the list of requirements to the excellent suite of tools the WMF developed for Curation. Some of these are already listed at Phabricator but may need a boost.
The conclusions also make some recommendations for AfC.
A place to discuss these issues initially is here where you are already a task force member.

I held of closing that section as I actually see the initial discussion differently. I read it as consensus to keep, but there have been two deleters since you relisted. I still think the conversation leans keep, but as that would essentially derail your initial assessment I wanted to bring it here first. COIs, looking for advice edit

Hello! I see you are patrolling UAI and I was wondering if you could share your opinion on this for me. These two new editors Emmetmaclellan442 (talk · contribs) and Alantuck11113 (talk · contribs) are editing pages in which they clearly have a conflict of interest (check out this edit for example). I find it suspicious that two editors with COIs are editing the same article, Catherine MacLellan and Al Tuck within minutes of each other but they seem to be ex or current-husbands of this BLP. I don't think they can be blocked for username violations but would you mind watching them at least? They haven't edited since I dropped a COI template on their pages. A technical question about AE edit

Hi, I am writing a response at the AE page, and I've just noticed the note about a 500 word limit. In connection to that, I am wondering how strictly this limit is observed, and if footnotes fit this limit? I am trying to shrink my response to address all accusations, but it is still too long.--Paul Siebert (talk) 17:10, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

From my vantage point, I think if you go a couple hundred words over it wouldn't be a problem. If any other AE admins question it, I'll point to this diff; it seems unfair to constrain you too much. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:12, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Do I understand correct that footnotes are not included in a 500 words limit? That is important, because we are discussing some factual material.--Paul Siebert (talk) 17:21, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, footnotes won't be an issue for that. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:23, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Great. Thanks.
It is 809 words now. I am not sure I can shrink it more, because some important points may be lost.--Paul Siebert (talk) 17:29, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
That should be fine. It's not overwhelmingly long and it's all germane information. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 20:03, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks.--Paul Siebert (talk) 20:22, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

"Funereal" isn't a typo, it just means "of or relating to funerals." (The change is probably still a good one, though.) -165.234.252.11 (talk) 18:49, 30 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

Hello, I nominated List of African supercentenarians for deletion and one of the participants took it upon themselves to merge all the continent articles together, but they can't for the African article because it is undergoing a deletion discussion. The discussion is presently going towards redirect to the new article, but I'm not sure if I should announce that I no longer support deletion to end the AfD early (which you can do right?) or let it play out. I don't believe the continent lists pass WP:LISTN, with the likely exception of Europe, so I don't actually want this content to live elsewhere. What do you think I should do? Newshunter12 (talk) 21:16, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

What a mess that merge created. Nothing unfixable, but definitely complicates things; I don't doubt it was in good faith, so not a complaint about the editor. If you don't want the content anywhere (I agree, seriously defective sourcing) you can say that you're arguing for deletion, not merging, and let the discussion run; an administrator will figure out what to do with the discussion. (Ordinarily you could just withdraw a nomination, but given several people have different votes it'd probably just complicate things now) Should the closer just go with what's already happened, go to the talkpage where it got merged and start an RfC to get it removed; I can help with that, it's been a while but I've put them together before. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 00:23, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the advice. I think it's clear in the discussion that I am arguing for deletion and didn't signal any support for a merge, so I will just let it play out as you said and see what the closers call is. In a way, all of these dud continent articles being put together in one basket opens the door for easier clean up in the future. For my part, I will wait and see how the AfD goes and what happens to the new article (someone else might launch an RfC or AfD you know) before attempting an RfC, but thank you for the offer of help with cleaning up this content. The continent articles have existed for many years, so at the very least we are moving in a new direction with the merge. Newshunter12 (talk) 01:23, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

CLOUD Act edit

I recognize that the article was started by a blocked account and if there had been no expansion since, deletion was proper, but since its creation, myself and other editors in good standing have significantly expanded it (it is 100% a legitimate topic). I will take any "responsibility" of what may remain of the original content from the blocked user, and otherwise reverted your deletion for that purpose. --Masem (t) 17:52, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Also be aware that G5 says "and that have no substantial edits by others", which is definitely not the case for CLOUD Act at its present state. --Masem (t) 17:53, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK, no problem. This particular banned user is one of the super-mega-ultra-permabanned ones, and had created a ton of pages, so I decided just to ax everything and figured anyone could restore something useful; not my usual practice, but this guy is not a typical banned editor. I have no objections. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:55, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Regarding the mass-deletion, if you're willing to undelete articles of value, please consider Quebec ban on face covering (article should probably be renamed as it is not in effect), Family detention, and Shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith. I've looked at the Google Cache of each page and can confirm that these articles are well-referenced and on topics that Wikipedia should definitely have articles on (however, I cannot access the page history to confirm whether other users edited them). I've also personally edited Our Shining Days, but I can't attest to how much of the page was the banned user's contribution and my edit was minor. I understand that this was a special case, but mass-deletion of so many articles is a bit reckless and could have a lot of collateral damage, so in future cases could you consider perhaps mentioning it first at ANI. Not like you can't delete the articles later should consensus decide it, so i don't understand the haste in which this was done. Opencooper (talk) 23:49, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. I can restore those, no problem. And I thought that the less attention this drew the better, this user has an especially serious history here that is best not broadcast, so therefore decided that bringing it to a very widely viewed noticeboard wasn't a good idea. Perhaps I erred, should something like this happen again I'll likely take a different tack. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 00:39, 29 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks for being very reasonable; of course undeletion is up to your discretion and I don't expect you to undelete all of these if you feel they shouldn't be. Opencooper (talk) 05:51, 29 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely. And thank you as well, keep up the good work. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 05:58, 29 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Raw intelligence edit

I see that "17:32, 28 September 2018 The Blade of the Northern Lights (talk | contribs) deleted page Raw intelligence (G5: Creation by a blocked or banned user in violation of block or ban". I rewrote that page as noted at the AfD where the result was "Keep". WP:G5 requires that the page "have no substantial edits by others" and so does not seem to apply. Please revert. Andrew D. (talk) 18:22, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • I see above that this is not the only case and that you have speedily deleted dozens of articles, apparently without checking them. Why no due diligence? Why now? I suggest that you revert all these deletions. Andrew D. (talk) 18:33, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
It's related to the above, my response there covers this too. I don't mind restoring this article, anyway. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:43, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

As discussion of this batch has petered out and most are still deleted, the full list of cases has been taken to DRV. The discussion is at Wikipedia:Deletion review#Child bullying. Andrew D. (talk) 09:31, 5 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

There is an editor, Netherzone, giving various editors a bit of a hard time on the longevity AfD's you started. They strongly appear to have deliberately deleted another editors vote here 1 at one of the AfD's. I'm not very knowledgeable on the disciplinary side of Wikipedia, but isn't that type of behavior a big no-no? Is it possible you could officially report this editor's misdeed, that has since been corrected by the editor whos vote was deleted. I checked both their talk pages and neither one messaged each other to discuss what happened and in any event, there is no realistic reason it would have been an accident anyhow. Thank you. Newshunter12 (talk) 05:56, 4 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

The deletion was unquestionably an accident. When two editors attempt to edit the same page (or section of a page) at the same time, one editor's post can inadvertently clobber the other editor's post. The server software tries to detect such "edit conflict", and warn before anything gets lost, but the detection is imperfect, plus sometimes editors get confused on receiving the server's warning. You'll run into this sooner or later in your own editing. The right thing to do in such a case is simply restore the lost post silently -- other no need to even mention it in the discussion itself as Cunard did [2]. You'd have to have a very good reason to believe such a removal was intentional, partly because everyone knows it's almost impossible to get away with such a thing.
As to the hard time Netherzone has been giving various editors, I've administered one of my patented gentle corrections [3]. EEng 17:33, 4 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Heh, nice. Yeah, EEng is right on both fronts. And I appreciate your both still respecting me even after I exposed my flaming bigotry to the world! (Seriously, that was a new one for me; I used to get called all kinds of ethnic names in India-related articles, but never for something this silly) The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 20:04, 4 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the correction, guys. I've run into plenty of edit conflicts before but never had that happen and the person was acting like a troll, so I thought for sure it must have been on purpose. The edit in question also happened an hour and 12 minutes after the other post was added, so some type of simple edit issue did not seem likely. I enjoyed reading your correction; the complaints really were such a joke. Did either of you see their questioning me 4 over my use of the term, spamming? Newshunter12 (talk) 23:32, 4 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
How do you know we're guys, huh? HUH? Please stop using such disrespectful and sexist and debasing and unprofessional and BIGOTED language. Notice I put BIGOTED in <big> and debasing in <small>. BIGoted in BIG -- get it? EEng 00:14, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
LOL. Debasing (to lower or reduce) in small text and bigoted in big text. You are a riot, not that I am encouraging you to riot, so please don't engage in such self-destructive behavior. If you already have, am I complicit in your rioting? Do I want to be? As Hamlet pondered, to be or not to Be? And I haven't even gotten to my horrible, no good, very bad use of sexist language. I'm sorry if either of you beings feel profiled or typecast by me. I shouldn't box you in like that with my obvious prejudice, which could be infectious. Goodness, I've killed this encyclopedia with my infectious hate display here, haven't I? Newshunter12 (talk) 00:47, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what's wrong with me. I should have put de-basing in subscript. EEng 02:55, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
True. Newshunter12 (talk) 03:15, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Have you visited The Museums? EEng 03:23, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, a few times and they were lovely informative trips indeed! Newshunter12 (talk) 03:44, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Heh, nice. Once this is done, it's back to desecrating the corpses of old people! Or... something. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 03:50, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
A possibility. What really is sick is the countless 110 club people whom use the photos of old people (often dead) as their profile pictures without consent or wax on and on about just who their favorite old person is, often by country at that. The hypocrisy is just staggering. Newshunter12 (talk) 04:09, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Never did understand that myself. And to show the depths of how bizarre this got back around when I first encountered this topic, check out the ANI archives for Margaret Fish (it's somewhere in the ArbCom case too). That is why I've kept at this so long, to prevent such a nightmare from ever happening again. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 05:21, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I read the recommended pages on Margaret Fish and found them informative. I had heard of that debacle before from Derby, but didn't know the details of the incident. I was recently in an editing dispute over a different British woman's poorly sourced death and made sure she stayed put on these articles until a reliable source was published. I got called a troll a few times, but we can't be flippantly declaring people dead because some random self-published source said so. Newshunter12 (talk) 10:25, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately I don't have a hard time believing it. The arbitration case was partially about one guy trying to push biblical literalism, who certainly added a lot of verbosity, but mostly disputes like that; add the two together, it was a nightmare. Finally it looks like this might be a more permanent changing point. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 20:35, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I hope you don't have a hard time believing the abuse I suffered 5 6. Interestingly, Oldest in Britain (not shown in these difs) was the unreliable source they tried to use as proof Lilian Wignall was dead, which is a source that also falsely reported Margaret Fish's death all those years ago. Nothing new under the sun indeed, although I agree we do appear to be at a crossroads with this project. The arbcom case days certainly seem like they were a nightmare. Newshunter12 (talk) 22:57, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism issue edit

Hey, there is an indisputable vandalism problem at the List of British supercentenarians I could use help with. An IP user keeps adding people to the living supercentarian section using invalid citations like Oldest in Britain or citations for other people not the subject in question. They seem to want to include every British oldster known to exist and have to resort to underhanded means to get everyone on the list since RS don't exist for everyone. Although, I found valid sources for some of the people the first time, which were not hard to find, so they very well could just be a trickster not even interested in the topic. They have no talk page so I can't warn them directly, but I did warn them before in an edit summary to stop vandalizing Wikipedia 1. In that case, they used a source for two other men to intentionally falsely add four people to the list. Recently they: 2 (used someone else's citation), 3 (added someone to someone else's citation), 4 (Unreliable source), 5 (Same unreliable source). The links to Oldest in Britain were removed, but all four individuals and the two false citations remain. Could you please help hold 82.31.37.157 accountable with Admins, so they get blocked? Thank you. I don't know how to do it myself. After that incident before, I completely overhauled every entry on the living list and do not appreciate my hard work being contaminated with crud. Newshunter12 (talk) 06:39, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I left a warning at the IP's talkpage, and I'll keep an eye on things; let me know if you see it come up again. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 14:04, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

List of Canadian supercentenarians edit

Hi. I fixed your merge of Marie-Louise Meilleur: you had a missing < for a <ref> and a missing name attribute for another. I'm guessing the former is because you removed the iUniverse ref and the second is something you added by hand, since it wasn't in the original article. Just a heads up. Isa (talk) 16:07, 22 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thanks. It's been years since I've done one of these, and there was some stuff I was trying to remove in the process. Looks a lot better now. Thank you again! The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:10, 22 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Age claims edit

I just wanted to thank you for changing your vote at the Nabi Tajima AfD after considering my argument. Interestingly enough, Tajima, Kamato Hongo, and Shigechiyo Izumi were all from the same Japanese prefecture, Kagoshima, which at least partly suffered extensive record loss during WWII. Seems to be a rather troubled place for our purposes. I sure wish people could just be honest... I mean, in a modern country like Japan you don't just imagine you lived 2 or 6 or 15 more years then you did. I don't know if you noticed, but JFG found a source on a study, that if to be believed, convincingly destroys Jeanne Calment's claimed age as the product of identity theft by her daughter. Honestly, part of me wants to have a policy on these pages that anyone caught lying about their age is prohibited from being included, so as not to reward these liars. I'm sure the primary goal for these people was pension or other monetary fraud (avoiding inheritance taxes and stealing annuity payments is the alleged Calment goal), but fame is a major one as well. Do you have any thoughts on this topic? Newshunter12 (talk) 07:41, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the prompt about my vote, I don't know why my memory failed me in that instance. Yeah, there's definitely a lot of fraud and similar going on. It's tough in that there are a small number who do actually get significant coverage for this, but when this happens 1. most of the sources will say so in as many words and 2. our articles need to reflect that. Going through Category:Longevity claims I see some where the articles are very wishy-washy about their purported ages. That needs to be tightened up, and the many more people who aren't actually notable need to be cleared out. And that study from JFG is really fascinating. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 13:49, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Good points all. The Calment situation is pretty similar to the situation that kicked off the oldster crises in Japan about 8 years ago that cleaned out a lot of hidden rot there, so hopefully the same will happen here with a deeper checking of both old and new claim integrity. I posted a new section on the project page about the need to better inform readers about the pitfalls of extreme longevity because with all the fraudulent claims (and fancruft "records"), the topic is a bit only semi-real just like reality TV. Newshunter12 (talk) 15:36, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yeah. The sad part is that this is actually something of an improvement over what was there before. I'll take a look at that discussion, and I'm still in the process of culling some of the more ridiculous pages still out there (I'm trying not to nominate more than 3-4 in a day to avoid overloading AfD, but I have some more in my sights). The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 04:11, 7 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
That's a good idea as JFG overdid it a bit recently with too many at once. I recently voted in the most recent ones you nominated and I would point out that while you recommended many of them be listed at Longevity claims, the two who claimed 130+ were not eligible to be listed even there. If Calment's case gets tossed, we ought to rethink the parameters of such articles as the next oldest "verified" person was three years younger then her. Newshunter12 (talk) 06:49, 8 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Good catch; sometimes the ages all blur together, so that was my mistake. Also, I've been going through and removing some people who claimed to live to 90+ years old; even in the ancient and medieval world that did happen at least sometimes (i.e. Ramses II and Thomas Hobbes). And yes, reconsidering the scope of it in light of what's going on with Calment may be in the offing; best to let that play out all the way to be sure, but we may end up needing to make a downward adjustment on the age range. Hi The Blade of the Northern Lights, Thank you for reviewing the Institute of Acoustics article. To my surprise, you deleted that article which I had enriched with so much more new content, links and references compared to the initial version 2 hours before. The whole article had also been re-written in my own language. If you think there're still things I can do to improve the article, I'll be glad to follow your suggestions but, could you please consider to bring it back or at least send it to me privately because I didn't make any copy of it. Thanks!!! --Fotobaby (talk) 16:56, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

What?! edit

Doncha like Cornhole?-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 15:49, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Now that kind is fine, for sure, but that... is not usually how people use that on the internet, hence the type of block. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 15:52, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Long time, no see edit

HI, Blade, long time since your name has popped up on my watchlist. Hope you are well, and willing to take a look at the goings-on at Bank Street Unitarian Chapel. We have a new contributor who is making a bit of a hash of things. I left a note on their talk page and also a couple on the article talk page.

Concerns include completence (although they *are* new), COI and the potential for meatpuppetry to kick off. I am sure that they are well-intentioned but not so sure they will listen. - Sitush (talk) 15:58, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Good to see you too. I've been thinking about getting back into the fray a bit more, goodness knows there are enough places in need of it. I'll look through everything there and see how I can help. That was quite a mess, definitely don't need that to recur. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:40, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. They may have given up. They have changed the notice on their "new" official website - the one they added to the article - and it is now a whinge of sorts, whereas earlier today it was an excited announcement that they were improving their Wikipedia article. Clearly COI and at some sort of high level. - Sitush (talk) 17:44, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
For sure. I said at the user's talkpage that the website issue is plausible, but the place to note it is on the article talkpage; these things should be worked on out where everyone can see them, not some obvious COI editor's talkpage. Not sure if it'll have any effect, but worth a try. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:48, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I missed the response on their talk page. Thanks for replying to that. I'm fire-fighting on numerous fronts, as per usual. Sitush (talk) 17:57, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm sure. At least with the India-related issues I'm feeling up for a bit more, but definitely happy to help wherever I can be effective. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:03, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sikh spam edit

Since you offered :) We have long had problems with spamming in Sikh articles and I've just been dealing with another case, this time involving Tarun45. I've decided to take the drastic step outlined below my warning at User_talk:Tarun45#February_2019. Somehow, I don't think they're likely to listen. Might be worth you keeping an eye on their talk page even if not on the individual articles. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 09:41, 2 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wow. That's quite a disaster, for sure. If that persists, and I have no reason to doubt it will, the spam blacklist might also be helpful. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 00:03, 3 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't know where to start with the spam blacklist. As it happens, they appear to have gone quiet. Consider me shocked. - Sitush (talk) 19:36, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Bassists edit

Since I read your userpage what are your favorite bassists. A.R.M. 16:58, 19 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

The one who inspired me to pick up a bass is Geddy Lee, and the one who inspired me to learn a 5-string is Troy Bleich (of Into Eternity). Both bassists for Death Angel and Eric Langlois are favorites too, and in softer music Randy Meisner. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:24, 19 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I love lee. But I do love Geezer Butler and Roger Glover.
Also fine choices, for sure. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:50, 19 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Why the rollback at Cabell's? edit

[7]. This is hardly vandalism. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 16:01, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

It's spam from an obvious COI account, though you are indeed correct I should have used Twinkle with an edit summary. There was something of a backlog at UAA, was trying to clear it out and rushed a bit. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:03, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
There's a COI, yes, but I don't really see the spam here. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 16:10, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. I thought it was a sneaky attempt at promotion, but it's not that huge a deal to me. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:14, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Michael (TV series) edit

Hi The Blade of the Northern Lights. You indefinitely blocked DexterFilmFan999 who created this draft. It looks like DexterFilmFan999 copied and pasted The Emperor's New School in it's entirety onto the draft's page, perhaps to use as a template for a future article. Anyway, I removed some non-free images from the page per WP:NFCC#9, but there might also be WP:CWW issues with the text content itself. The lack-of-attribution issue can probably be fixed, but not sure it would be worth doing so. Do you think there's any value in keeping this draft? Should it simply be left to be deleted per WP:G13 or would it be better to go to WP:MFD instead? I guess it's possible that someone other than the creator might decided to try and work on this, but it seems unlikely. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:38, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Good catch. I don't think it's worth keeping around, especially as the user's other edits were all screwing around, so I'll delete it. If anyone were to want to recover it and see to properly attributing it, I'd be fine with that upon request. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 02:14, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

What??? edit

[8] EEng 02:39, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Oh wait, I get it. I guess even dead people are sensitive about pronouns nowadays. EEng 02:41, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
Not a huge thing, but it did grate me to see someone I'd collaborated with having such a clunky message atop his userpage; I don't usually mind singular they, but it seems too awkward for that setting. Not a big deal, just me being me. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 02:46, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
