Recent changes

• The GDrive to Commons Uploader tool is now available. It enables securely selecting and uploading files from your Google Drive directly to Wikimedia Commons. [1]
• From now on, we will announce new Wikimedia wikis in Tech News, so you can update any tools or pages.
  • Since the last edition, two new wikis have been created:
    • a Wiktionary in Pa'O (wikt:blk:) [2]
    • a Wikisource in Sundanese (s:su:) [3]
  • To catch up, the next most recent six wikis are:
    • Wikifunctions (f:) [4]
    • a Wiktionary in Mandailing (wikt:btm:) [5]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 22 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 23 August. It will be on all wikis from 24 August (calendar).

Future changes

• There is an existing stable interface policy for MediaWiki backend code. There is a proposed stable interface policy for frontend code. This is relevant for anyone who works on gadgets or Wikimedia frontend code. You can read it, discuss it, and let the proposer know if there are any problems. [10]

Michigan tornado

You put the michigan tornado that gotten the pds tagged as a possible tornado, in fact it wasn't a possible tornado and a graph by sam emmerson put the tornado as possible ef4 intensity but i highly doubt doing ef4 damage but it lifted debris over 15k feet. Looking at ANI I'm wondering

@Doug Weller, I was wondering about that as well. Their continuous addition of block templates, combined with their unexplained removals (there’s more than just this, all of it is found on their contributions), likely shows that they have a CIR problem. Now, they already apologized when an ANI discussion was brought up for their removals but I don’t think the disruptive editing is going to stop. So they most likely have a CIR issue, and I’m not against another ANI discussion about their CIR concerns or even a block given their disruptive edits and their history. Sorry, as you will see I finally felt a block for the Coulombe was justified if only to avoid timewasting if they came back and were reverted and replied with more PAs. Recent changes

• As part of the changes for the better diff handling of paragraph splits, improved detection of splits is being rolled out. Over the last two weeks, we deployed this support to group0 and group1 wikis. This week it will be deployed to group2 wikis. [11]
• All Special:Contributions pages now show the user's local edit count and the account's creation date. [12]
• Wikisource users can now use the prpbengalicurrency label to denote Bengali currency characters as page numbers inside the <pagelist> tag. [13]
• Two preferences have been relocated. The preference "Enable the visual editor" is now shown on the "Editing" tab at all wikis. Previously it was shown on the "Beta features" tab at some wikis. The preference "Use the wikitext mode inside the visual editor, instead of a different wikitext editor" is now also shown on the "Editing" tab at all wikis, instead of the "Beta features" tab. Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 August. It will be on all wikis from 31 August (calendar).
• New signups for a Wikimedia developer account will start being pushed towards idm.wikimedia.org, rather than going via Wikitech. Further information about the new system is available.
• All right-to-left language wikis, plus Korean, Armenian, Ukrainian, Russian, and Bulgarian Wikipedias, will have a link in the sidebar that provides a short URL of that page, using the Wikimedia URL Shortener. This feature will come to more wikis in future weeks. [16]

Future changes

• The removal of the DoubleWiki extension is being discussed. This extension currently allows Wikisource users to view articles from multiple language versions side by side when the <=> symbol next to a specific language edition is selected. Comments on this are welcomed at the phabricator task.
• A proposal has been made to merge the second hidden-categories list (which appears below the wikitext editing form) with the main list of categories (which is further down the page). More information is available on Phabricator; feedback is welcome!

Template:User likes Tails Wx

Hello Tails Wx, I stumbled across your user page and noticed that you had the userbox Template:User likes Tails Wx, which uses the image File:Tails Drawing.png. Unfortunately, the video game character Tails is non-free content, which is not allowed on the Wikimedia Commons, as well as on the English Wikipedia outside of strict rules. Even an unofficial drawing of the character isn't allowed because it is considered a "derivative work" of the non-free content. Recent changes

• EditInSequence, a feature that allows users to edit pages faster on Wikisource has been moved to a Beta Feature based on community feedback. To enable it, you can navigate to the beta features tab in Preferences. [18]
• As part of the changes for the Generate Audio for IPA and Audio links that play on click wishlist proposals, the inline audio player mode of Phonos has been deployed to all projects. [19]
• There is a new option for Administrators when they are changing the usergroups for a user, to add the user’s user page to their watchlist. This works both via Special:UserRights and via the API. [20]
• One new wiki has been created:
  • a Wikipedia in Talysh (w:tly:) [21]

Problems

• The LoginNotify extension was not sending notifications since January. It has now been fixed, so going forward, you may see notifications for failed login attempts, and successful login attempts from a new device. [22]

(talk page stalker) — @Helperaz2: I’m not sure the full context here, given Draft:Biren Zaverchand exists and isn’t deleted. That said, here is some helpful advice:

1. It appears the draft is on Biren Zaverchand, which is a living person. So, the person in question has to pass the requirements of Wikipedia:Notability (people).
2. To pass the notability requirements, an article needs to have secondary reliable sources, which contain information related to the person. These need to be more than a simple passing mention. You can learn about citing sources here: Wikipedia:Citing sources.
3. A quick look at the draft shows that it is a single sentence and no secondary reliable sources are cited. If the article was originally in mainspace (i.e. Biren Zaverchand), and it was this quality, then speedy deletion would have been appropriate, given the article (current state of the draft) would not pass the notability requirements linked above.

Hi, Meimpink! Yes, you'll be prevented from IP-address range blocks if you make an account. On an unrelated note, however, if a separate user connected to your IP address is blocked, then you'll be blocked as well. If this happens, you've done nothing wrong; simply request an unblock or IP block exempt. See WP:EXEMPT for further information regarding that. Hi! I was snooping around the statistics pages for Hurricane Idalia and I noticed how much work you had put into the article. I just felt like thanking you because, as a Floridian, I feel especially drawn to hurricanes and their respective articles which impact my home state, and you did incredible work in regards to our latest storm.

I felt especially concerned about Idalia because of its impact on a rural and poorer region of my state. I know if Idalia had impacted a more highly populated area of the state it would have been given much more love, though to be fair, there has been an incredible amount of love from you and other Wikipedians given to the article despite that.

Election news: In our mid-year Election of Coordinators, Dhtwiki was chosen as lead coordinator, Miniapolis and Zippybonzo continue as assistant coordinators, and Baffle gab1978 stepped down from the role. If you're interested in helping out at the GOCE, please consider nominating yourself for our next election in December; it's your WikiProject and it doesn't organize itself! June Blitz: Of the 17 editors who signed up for our June Copy Editing Blitz, 12 copy-edited at least one article. 70,035 words comprising 26 articles were copy-edited. Barnstars awarded are here.
