If you use other editor work/content (copy and paste) inregarless the content is from Wiki English to Wiki English page or Wiki xx to Wiki English page you need to mention in the edit summary prior you save the edit ONLY IF the copy and paste content is a short sentence. For content more than that, one should create / add /edit the content with his/her word to avoid plagiarism and same go to all inline citation for source used. Thanks, I was looking through SW Tas pages and noticed that there were (or should be) a lot of pages mentioning the formation of Lake Pedder but no page giving a central summary. the material is already there - also the gordon dam protests (effectively synonymous with lake pedder) require something better than green left weekly for WP:RS. Youre not naive, the problem with all the south west tas things some people from the South West Tas conservation battles of the 1970s are dying off already, and there is a complicated, very complicated story around the personalities from the 1960s the 1970s into the 1980s and their various ways of writing about some of the issues - most of it unrelatable on something as open as wikipedia talk page - there are many cross linked issues with understanding the transition between the various tasmanian political parties and to what extent they were influenced by the power of the Hydro - and to what extent the groups of people from both tasmania and the mainland in dealing with intransigent thinking about things makes for very very interesting historiographical issues that could well be lost... and how this affects the nature of what is on wikipedia - what is in the histories of the Hydro and the rather pathetic histories from the opposition to the dams, is something that could take up vast amounts of time and space. The Gordon River Power Development scheme - and the category - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Gordon_River_power_development_scheme - could do with gordon dam protests - but...

The thing is there are a number of things - the Gordon River dam - is the upper dam that flooded lake pedder - it was the lower gordon that was promoted by the Hydro to flood the Franklin. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Richard Dry, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Paternity is not an excuse for adding honorifics - there are many alternatives available - qualifiers after the name (if indeed there are two articles in existence) can include birth dates, or occupations - there is no need for honorifics - just look at other subjects who have father and son or individuals with same names - the possibilities are actually quite considerable. There is no disambiguation necessary exactly because we do not have an article on the father. No alternative is necessary. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. Drop bear

It filled the same ecological niche as the Drop Bear - i.e. Lay waiting in gums and droped on people's heads. Theorised by a BBC Doco to be an inspiration for it - cultural memory and all. Or just an outstanding coincidence. --Spacepine (talk) 01:55, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

And I disagree with referring to Drop Bears as a hoax. By wikipedias own definintion a hoax is "falsehood deliberately fabricated to masquerade as the truth. It is distinguishable from errors in observation or judgment, rumors, urban legends, pseudosciences, and April Fools' Day events that are passed along in good faith by believers or as jokes". I understand they're mostly synnonyms, but without quibbling too much over definitions, "hoax" has a connotation of malice or ill-will that "urban legend", mythical creature, mythical animal or legendary creature (all used in similar contexts) doesn't. Drop Bears are not described to children/tourists with ill-will. I appreciate the desire for clarity, but "hoax" does a poor job of describing a Drop Bear's place in Australian culture. --Spacepine (talk) 04:16, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Chopping VA5 Bios

What areas do you feel most comfortable chopping? When the move to reallocate 2500-5000 bios passes (and I reckon it is a when), which areas need to be cut more than others? (Some areas are only 5x larger than VA4 and some are much more than 5x larger). pbp 13:32, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

I see two options:

1. Cut all existing bios equally
2. Assuming a 5k cut, make all areas 3.6x larger than VA4, with the excess allocated to Miscellaneous (for a total of 800).

Among bios, where do you feel most qualified to chop? For me, it's American political leaders. Sometime this week, I'm going to prepare what American political leaders (or political leaders and jurists) could look like at sizes of 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150. Blocked, and taking some time away

I've been blocked.

It was a bold edit with consequences. I didn't expect an indef block, and will take some time over the next few weeks or months to read policy and mull it over. FYI admins: My preliminary policy reading shows that I was cut-and-dry in the wrong. I should have sent an email instead. It didn't occur to me at the time though, because (to explain, not excuse) emails are slow and I didn't like the idea of any side channel communication on wiki. I'm in the process of refining that view.

I'm under the impression that this block can be appealed, but since I haven't been active recently anyway, I'll take it as a cue to extend my wikibreak.

In case I don't come back, thank-you all for this experience.

I'm proud of the contributions that I made, especially in the Spaceflight area. 2,432 edits, 4 GAs and 7 DYKs feels like somehow both an impressive resume, and the mere beginnings of competence. Ultimately, I think the biggest thing is just contributing to the online culture of free knowledge. It's certainly given back; helping me grow my technical, research, writing and interpersonal skills.
