Happy New Year

Thanks for the greetings. It is now almost time for the new year to beginning in your country. Let me me wish you a very prosperous and very happy new year 2011. I will attend to the park article later in the day.--Nvvchar. 05:18, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Happy new year both!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:08, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Caves of Aruba

The DYK project (nominate) 14:05, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Happy New Year! I've destubbed the park. A good hook would be about the largest tree, however one of the sources says it is ctually located just outside of the reserve area, this needs verifying. Kankakee Torrent needs a helping hand, somebody already nominated it but it requires more and ref fills to be DYK worthy.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:08, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

BTW I think our date convention should now be e.g 1 January, 2010 as the book ref tool lists it like that.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:44, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

I have completed my inputs to Pureora Forest Park.--Nvvchar. 15:33, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Nice one, maybe disperse some of the gallery photos into the article. Are they really all of the reserve? I think maybe we ought to expand some of the national parks of New Zealand , maybe work on a double or triple set over the next week or so. Most of them need an awful lot of work..♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:59, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

I am sure you would like to add to this article Lake Alexandrina, New Zealand to make it 5x. Also add to this Wallblake House.--Nvvchar. 17:05, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
I have fixed reference to fact tag and also completed all conversions of units. The article is expanded by more than 5x. You may like to nominate.--Nvvchar. 23:34, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

I've nominated Wallblake House. There is an article I want to do as soon as possible, Shark fin trading in Costa Rica in light of the recent news about Gordon Ramsey. I am highly intrigued to learn about it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:50, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

I am sure you would like this Te Matua Ngahere in New Zealand, your favorite country. It needs more references and inputs to make it 5x, which I am sure you would be able to locate. Please let me know the url of wikicommons where I can find [Wallblake House]] imgs. I will upload them. One more article will be coming soon on St. John's Cathedral in Antigua.--Nvvchar. 12:59, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
This is also done St. John's Cathedral, St. John's. It is 5x

I've started User:Nvvchar/Saint Barthélemy. Let me know if you are interested. I suspect though that a lot of the information available will be in French. This source should take us half the way there... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:41, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

I've nommed Shark finning. Can you review somebody else's hook later?♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:29, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Pictures, and categories

Hi again. I haven't forgotten about the pics you requested. They are just hard to come by. Next summer I want to get out of town and perhaps go into the interior, so maybe I will have more luck. I assume that you want pics of the people, right?

Also, I did some clean up on Westfield Galleria at Roseville. The "controversy" section mystifies me, but I am loathe to blank it. Hopefully the template helps. Also, I did some clean up in the section about last years fire. I also added what I felt were some relevant categories. I realize that not all fires are notable, but this was one hell of a fire that closed the mall for a week and destroyed 20 stores. I clicked on the categories and noted other buildings that have experienced significant fires are listed thusly. Anyway, I just thought you might take a peak. Thanks again! AlaskaMike (talk) 22:21, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

  • I see you made a few changes to the article, thanks! I was down there last May when I visited some of my family. You probably remember me contacting you after I posted a photo of the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary. (Parents in Roseville, and a sister in Auburn) I remember being shocked by the fire. I'm glad things are getting back to normal. I have one or two photos to add to the article, not sure why I never thought of it before. :) AlaskaMike (talk) 14:07, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Lake Malibu residents

Hi. I see you are currently adding to the list of Lake Malibu residents. Can I ask you to be a little careful when doing this with current residents, as there may be privacy issues involved. I left a note about this on the talk page, but I thought I'd better let you know here as well too. AndyTheGrump (talk) 02:43, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Andy. I fully support the privacy issues associated with BLP, and as you can see, I'm only adding names to this article if there is an appropriate inline citation. That said, if someone were to remove any of the names, I wouldn't knowingly put them back on the list. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:55, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi Rosie (should I call you Rosie?). Thanks for the response. I think with BLP there has always been a tenancy to err toward assumption of privacy with addresses and the like, even if available on RS. On that basis, I'm thinking of suggesting that we explicitly limit the list to former residents - it is a small area after all. I'll put a note on the talk page, to see what others think. AndyTheGrump (talk) 03:01, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
I'll go along with that and I'll remove some of the names I just added. They can always be put back on the list if someone else disagrees with the action. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:09, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

If it is sourced it should be absolutely fine.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:14, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Terra Chã needs a bit of a copyedit and can then be nominated. I've also started User:Nvvchar/Health benefits of honey using material from the honey article and will begin building upon it later. It has the potential to be a very comprehensive article as there should be a wealth of material we can use in four out of five of the books I've listed in the bibliography. Honey appears to have magical powers! Very interesting actually.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:57, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi! This needs your expertise in copy editing for the joint article to be retrieved. The book references on travel have been questioned. I have added some text to Lake Malibu article. I hope it is OK. Thanks. --Nvvchar. 06:02, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for nominating Terra Cha. However, Malibou Lake article cannot be expanded beyond 2x with out adding extraneous material. I am not proceeding further on that. On the Saint Barthélemy article, I don't know what more is required since the tags are still on. You may like to indicate to me what more is expected to be done by us. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 05:20, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, Rosie. Six references in Ariko Rock Formations are not considered adequate for DYK. Hence I have agreed with MS's suggestion to drop it as DKY nominee. I suppose same is the situation in the case of Saint Bartholemey article. I find that the references have been disturbed after the editing. It needs lot of work to verify. More over some of the book references also open partially only. --Nvvchar. 13:29, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK nom

I performed the review of your DYK nom, Terra Chã, but did not understand why the article was nominated. In the last 5 days, it has not undergone 5x or even 2x expansion of the text. Unless I'm missing something obvious in the rules, then the article is not eligible. Feel free to comment on the DYK nomination page. – VisionHolder « talk » 03:31, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. Yeah, I think it just minor grammar fixes that are needed, like misplaced commas etc. I want to take it to FA eventually but I feel it needs even more book research and perhaps additional sections on Eastwood's directorial style and perhaps even one on his macho image and influence on cinema. But for GA it should hopefully be good enough.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:15, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Oh dear I just discovered what happened with the Saint Barts article. Now we have somebody with "issues" frantically editing it. Who would have thought a small Caribbean island would bring a skeleton out of the closet... He's ranting on as if he owns the article and hasn't edited since 2007.I will look at it shortly. It surely can't be as bad as is claimed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:26, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Oh well, we always get extremists like that every now and again. But he seems to think that every single sentence needs sourcing and can't be bothered to find citations himself.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:04, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Cancer previvor

I took the liberty of merging Cancer previvor into Cancer survivor. My apologies for not going into a formal discussion, but the term was a neologism of limited scope, the article was an orphan with one link (the "See also" section of its new home), the referencing was light (although the NYT article was an excellent start), and it fit perfectly with the list of terms at the destination. I hope you don't my my bypassing protocol, but the outcome seemed too obvious.Novangelis (talk) 20:07, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

I have also added some text to Zerat. Rayat or Royt is part of this system. I have also started on User:Nvvchar/Luoyang Museum, China.--Nvvchar. 04:31, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
I have fixed reference to tag and also deleted Laos in the lead of the Chinit River article. You may now like to nominate it. MS has done some tidying also. Luoyang Museum is complete from my end. You may like to add and post it. Uige is also ready. May like to suggest a hook, please? Thanks.--Nvvchar. 09:27, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I don't think so. There are some things which don't add up. The Kyoto source shows the Chinit River as the looped river which explains its length. But the article claims the source is in mountains somewhere and seems to be strangely similar in course to another river of a different name... I did look at Raiyat but Nvv said it would be best to merge them or something..♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:29, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the copy edit. Will this reference [1] be OK since I could not find any other reference to the fall. Tazu as a place on the Cuango River has been mentioned in the pdf artcile and not the fall. I will fix reference to tag also. Angola article also gives reference to the Tazua Falls (a flickr photo reference). Pl advice.--Nvvchar. 08:27, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, Ain Dara temple is interesting. I will add text in the evening as I am busy during the day with my official work.--Nvvchar. 06:31, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
I have added text from a pdf source authored by John Mason, which is also the main text mentioned in the book that you have referred where the text of the same author is given on pages 12 to 19. More can be added but it may be better to be brief. I hope I have done the needful.--Nvvchar. 02:38, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Ain Dara Temple

I thought of introducing a section on "Lay Out" but merged it with the architectural section. It may be better to include the "Ground" section in the beginning of the architecture section. The first sentence in the lead could be a good hook text for DYK nomination.--Nvvchar. 04:15, 15 February 2011 (UTC) Reference 3 is a book by Hess where Monson's article also appears from pages 12-19 and hence I have mentioned it under work=. This has been fixed correctly now. Your rearranging of text is excellent. Now, I have also fixed an img of the Solomon's Temple.--Nvvchar. 07:15, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I have added an img to the main hook. Since the image is not very distinct, I thought of an ALT Hook with colossal lion img, which I have added now. I hope you agree. --Nvvchar. 07:53, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes. However, the user from Syria who has reviewed the DYK has preferred the first hook and img in the infobox. Now, here is another article User:Nvvchar/Khor Virap from Armenia which is equally interesting as it has lot do with Christianity spreading in Armenia. Please add and I will also add more on History today.--Nvvchar. 04:07, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
I have completed my inputs to the Armenian article.--Nvvchar. 14:46, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I propose this hook ...that the notability of Khor Virap in Armenia and its declaration as the world’s first Christian nation in 301, during the reign of Tiridates III, is attributed to Gregory?--Nvvchar. 06:13, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Nominated with slightly modified hook. You may like to suggest an alt hook. --Nvvchar. 09:03, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Kottarakkara is a taluk in Kollam district and all commercial operations are linked with Kollam the port city. I wrote it initially for Kollam history and then tried to link it to Kottarakkara, though a very loose link. If it does not pass muster, it could be deleted. You can take a view by either strengthening the text or delete the para.Thanks.--Nvvchar. 02:39, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
The 'Adventure' section in User:Nvvchar/Nahuel Huapi National Park could be given a different heading so that most of the text could be retained. I am now in Bangalore on a personal visit and my editing inputs would be sporadic for the next 10 days. --Nvvchar. 02:44, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Gwichyaa Gwich’in and other stuff

I haven't given up on obtaining pictures of the Gwichyaa Gwich’in people, per your request. The problem now is that I am even farther away, Juneau - a fair haul from interior Alaska. I have a note of it, and will get one when I am able.

Since I now live in a new part of the state (new to me) I have been able to add a lot of information on the Juneau area. I did some editing to the Douglas Island page. I felt that it would be educational to make the distinction that it is a tidal island. I also added a photo of the bridge that connects it with the rest of Juneau. I intend to add a lot of other photos and information about Douglas Island, nearby Thane, etc.

One of my recent projects, as part of Wikiproject Alaska, has been adding relevant categories. I believe that appropriate cats are vital, as they cross reference information. One big project was my restoring the Category:Non-profit organizations based in Alaska. That page had previously been deleted because it was empty. I restored it and populated it with 23 page links so far and I'm on the lookout for others.

Any way, just sending a little salute and update to my fav Wiki-collaborator :-) AlaskaMike (talk) 15:29, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Juneau-Douglas Bridge

OK with it? YES! That is awesome!! I went in and added an infobox, imported my photo, and added another category (of course! lol) I also added it to a couple of relevant WikiProject's on its discussion page, but I'll let others with less of a vested interest in it rate its importance. That was great, thanks! AlaskaMike (talk) 12:44, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

  • I hope I have clarified the point, that Juneau and Douglas are one and the same. Feel free to tweak it further. I also added another photo of the bridge, showing the buildings superstructure and architecture. I thought the boat sailing by was a nice touch :) Nice working with you on this article! However, can you give the notble landmarks a major overhaul which is organized and perhaps create some new articles from them with some sources and condense it in the main article. Also sources need to be added to most of the other paragraphs, can you find some sources and fix some of the current references from urls?. Note that I can't access some of the material you've as sources like ref 1 because of US vs UK copyright google paranoia! Google paranoia I think. this was published in 1893 and is easily pubic domain in UK but all I can see is the cover like so many US publications. A shame. Nonetheless I will try to find more sources.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:53, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

I managed to find a few paragraphs picked up in google book search but sadly couldn't access them properly. Can you check to see if the info I added it correct as for some of them I couldn't read the whole sentences. I think its ridiculous that google won't let the UK view pre 1920 material...♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:18, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

  • Regarding your reply on my talk page, I have LONG felt that Wikipedia provides a LOT of great information about Alaska, but with VERY FEW pics to go along with it. The result was, the pages ended up being very dry. As I have long stated on my page, my main goal in becoming involved with WikiProject Alaska was to add some much needed photos to the pages.

I can add content by introducing pages when I feel a relevant, notable subject isn't recognized here, such as I've done with Fourpeaked Mountain and Cali Swag District, etc. I don't limit myself to Alaska, even though that is my main area here. But when a mountain that hasn't erupted in over 10,000 years erupts, thats notable! And when a hip hop group, previously unknown, has a Platinum single, that's notable! But textually, my main goal is to make improvements and add information, not to create pages. Photos, though, really transform pages here, and that is where I feel I can truly make a difference on Wikipedia. AlaskaMike (talk) 21:01, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Welcome to the Wikipedia Ambassador Program

Hi Rosie!

Congratulations! Your application to join the Wikipedia Ambassador Program as an Online Ambassador has been accepted.

First off, I apologize for the following info-dump. If you're wondering how to get started or are wondering what's going on, please contact me.

If you haven't already done so, take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines: Wikipedia:Online_Ambassadors/Guidelines

The "mentorship process" section lays out approximately what will be expected of you as a mentor. If you'd like, you can also volunteer to be the coordinating online ambassador for a class or two.

Please add yourself to the top of the list of available mentors, and note the number of students you think you'd like to mentor next term (it doesn't have to be a final answer, this is just to help with matching students and mentors once the students start getting active) and if you'd like to take on the coordination role for any classes note that as well: Wikipedia:Online_Ambassadors/Mentors (Don't add yourself to the lower "Additional online ambassadors section; that's for ambassadors-in-training and ambassadors who are already mentoring all the the students they want to take on.)

To coordinate between Online Ambassadors and Campus Ambassadors, we've been using a Google Group as a mailing list. It's not required, but almost all the ambassadors are on it. Would you like me to subscribe you? Email me with your email address if so.

You can catch with what's been going on so far with the first major message this term, with details about what the group should and shouldn't be used for: Wikipedia_talk:Ambassadors#Information_for_Ambassadors_about_January_-_May_2011_term

You can also check out the first two ambassador newsletters, which have more detail about what's going on right now. You'll get future editions delivered to your talk page.

If you use IRC, please consider adding #wikipedia-en-ambassadors and #wikipedia-en-classroom to your channel lineup.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:16, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
