Orphaned non-free image File:Cut The Power.png

Thanks for uploading File:Cut The Power.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
  • If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.

Dr. Scholl's

Howdy. When you come across a copyvio template like the one here, please don't edit it. The template says page shouldn't be edited until an admin or an OTRS agent has resolved the issue. Looking at your user page, it appears you are neither. Normally I would not make a big deal about it, but after you removed the copyvio template the copyvio text was still on the page.--Rockfang (talk) 10:22, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

The copyvio template had, from what I could find searching Googloe, been placed incorrectly. The editor who placed it should have edited the sections where they felt it broke such rules, or placed tags around the appropriate sections. Instead they took a lazy and administratively poor solution. As Scholl's have just been nominally purchased today as part of the sale of SSL International to Reckitt Benckiser, what would an incorrectly copyvio tag have said about Wikipedia? Rgds --Trident13 (talk) 13:56, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
A Google search probably wasn't needed as there was a link to the source url in the Copyvio template. Also, the deletion policy states to "...replace its entire content...".--Rockfang (talk) 18:09, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Whatever, I think we can agree that it was a an awful article! I wanted to understand the relationship between the original company and the two operations today (North America/Rest of World) which I think my draft-text re-written article addresses. Let me know what you think. (NB: and yes, I am watching your talkpage!) Rgds, --Trident13 (talk) 19:39, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Charging Bull image removal

I have reverted your removal of the image of the Charging Bull statue from this article. Although you are correct that it has been nominated for deletion there, by you, it has not, as yet, been deleted. In fact, since you only nominated it about a half-hour ago, there hasn't even been any discussion about it at all. Until such time as it is deleted, if it is, it should be left in the article. Thanks, Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:14, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Ok. Just for the record, I was following the advice of the deletion template on the image.--Rockfang (talk) 21:17, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
That step is not mandatory. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:19, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
That is true. If I implied that it was, I apologize. I typically just remove images in situations like this once. And if I get reverted, it isn't a big deal.--Rockfang (talk) 21:29, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
OK, that's fine. Note that I've made the argument on the image's deletion page on Commons that because it sits on public property - a park owned by the City of New York - and not on private propety, the lack of freedom of panorama does not apply. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:31, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the heads up. I've replied to your comment on the deletion request subpage.--Rockfang (talk) 21:34, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Reviewing-Check your sources

Hello. I'd like to remind you to check your information before reviewing, as the accepted version you made to "World Soccer (magazine)" was incorrect, according to this page on the official website. I have reverted the information to the correct version, and am preceding to warn the IP for the incorrect information added. Hazard-SJ Talk 04:25, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

The point of reviewing "...is to catch and filter out obvious vandalism and obviously inappropriate edits...". To me, that edit appeared to be neither. One example of both of those, would be saying Big Bird joined a soccer team. That would be both vandalism and obviously inappropriate. Also keep in mind, "Reviewers are not expected to be subject experts and their review is not a guarantee in any way of an error-free article."--Rockfang (talk) 05:11, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Copyviocore

Please don't replace an entire article with {{copyvio}} just because someone added a single paragraph from a news source. That should be handled with normal editing. Please see Wikipedia:CP#Instructions for more details. Thanks. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 13:04, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Cream BCB.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Cream BCB.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Solid State Survivor (talk) 08:14, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Monthly clean up categories

{{Monthly clean up category/Messages/Articles with dead external links}} deals with the "message" part, "hidden" is default, "cat" is worked out by the template itself, I have created {{Monthly clean up category/Messages/Type/Articles with dead external links}} to deal with the remaining parameter. See Category:Articles with dead external links from October 2010 (although this category is currently nominating itself for speedy deletion, due to not being quite smart enough). Rich Farmbrough, 15:06, 12 September 2010 (UTC).
Incidentally these cats are generally created from Wikipedia:List_of_monthly_maintenance_categories_given_month which means that the previous month's paramters, interwikis, comments etc are simply copied over. However editors quite rightly create them when they see the need, sometimes significantly before month end, due to another editor incorrectly dating a template, hence the drive to simplify the syntax to the greatest extent possible, even though it means more complex apparatus behind the scenes. Thanks for uploading File:Lil Wayne & Juvenile Respect Us.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Re: Durrant

Thanks, I forgot we added this template. For this OTRS, the permission was not really necessary, but I was asking for a series of permissions when I send this email, and it can't hurt. Thanks for adding OTRS template to the talk page. PS. I think that the text if PD, the subject may think he holds the copyright, or was confused by me asking :) It was after I asked originally that I figured the text is likely PD anyway. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 04:14, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

FFD header

Hi Rockfang, I noticed you have copied the FFD header and also added it to the bottom of the page [2]. I'm curious as to why this is being done. The bot doesn't recognize that it's not part of the discussion and makes it part of the archived discussion (see this revision), so it's not particularly helpful in that aspect. — ξxplicit 22:24, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Howdy. I was adding the header to the bottom of some of the longer daily pages so editors that went through the discussions day by day didn't have to scroll all the way to the top again to go to the next day. If you'd like, I can talk to the bot's operator and see if it is possible to adjust the bot so it recognizes the "header" at the bottom of the page. Or, if you'd rather I just stop adding the header, I can do that as well. No biggie.--Rockfang (talk) 01:49, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
I think I'd prefer the latter. As far as I'm aware, all the XFD venues only keep the headers at the top of the page, and there should probably be a community-based consensus to start adding them at the bottom. — ξxplicit 22:42, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I'll stop.--Rockfang (talk) 04:20, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Image Uploads

Hello, I just wanted to know why your re-uploading all of those images?? I posted the "Rename media" template box to have them re-titled. Ga Be 19 23:00, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

I figured that one way to clear out the related category was to just reupload the files. The end result is the same. Files with better names are used in articles. With non-free files, the upload history doesn't matter as much as it does with freer files I think.--Rockfang (talk) 23:06, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Bubblin.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Added template for SuggestBot

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 20:44, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Dating of tags

Smackbot always dates tags as of the current month. I have given thought to the alternatives, but they present a number of difficulties including resurrecting empty cats, not being practical with AWB, and are of minor benefit. For exceptional circumstances (such as when I tagged some 200,000 unreferenced articles that were categorised by Erik9Bot) I have attempted to split the categories, but then of course I messages from people saying that I shouldn't. So my htinking is that the important thing is to get the articles into the workflow, and avoid complexity. Rich Farmbrough, 13:34, 23 February 2011 (UTC).

Don Ho

Hi Rockfang - please take a look at this OTRS ticket. Based on the only RS pics I can find this does not look like him in Dec 2001. I've nominated for deletion based on that, but if you can confirm the ticket that would be great. Thanks.  7  12:17, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

I don't have permission for the queue that ticket is in, but I'll trust you that the image isn't him. I'm not that knowledgeable about Don Ho. :) Rockfang (talk) 18:21, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls (song).ogg

Thanks for uploading File:Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls (song).ogg.

Better source request for File:Nicola benedetti-fantasie.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Nicola benedetti-fantasie.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 23:00, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

January 2012

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Where no man has gone before. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. -- Doniago (talk) 17:34, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

I didn't remove a template from that article, I just removed a parameter from a template. In my opinion, the number of citations that were in the article did not warrant having that parameter in the template. I'll bring it up on the article's talk page to see what other people think.--Rockfang (talk) 23:43, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
I think in this case that's somewhat of a semantic difference given that the parameter you removed refers to an issue typically covered by a maintenance template. I think you should have provided a reason for the removal rather than simply stating you were removing it.
That being said, upon reviewing the article itself, while I think it's in pretty poor shape overall, the only item that jumped out at me as specifically needing sourcing was one of the quotations. If you want to remove that parameter again, I won't contest it. Doniago (talk) 14:12, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

My recent block of an IP editor

Following your query on my talk page, it may be that you have now found the reason for the block I imposed. This editor has removed a significant nunber of maintenance templates, and has been asked not to do so with a block warning if s/he persists. Did persist, hence the block.

I have no problem with you, or any other editor, following me around, but may I suggest that you research the length of time for which I have been an admin, and consider the chance in the light of your findings of my being seriously in error?

There are possibly more constructive things which you may choose to do; if your taste is towards admin work then working within admin related pages - WP:CSD, WP:UAA, WP:AfD, WP:RfA spring to mind. Best wishes.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 22:27, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

I feel that I was unreasonably brusque with you in my comment above, In review, it is clear that my irritation was unwarranted and I apologise for that.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:21, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Question about your upload to the Elmer Fudd article

Hi Rockfang, a while ago you uploaded a screenshot from Elmer's Candid Camera, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d1/ElmersCamera.jpg to the Elmer Fudd article. How did you do that and have your image quality for "fair use"? I am curious - I want to verify a piece of info about Elmer Fudd and I want to make screenshots from a film that show Elmer Fudd in scenes from that film to upload and/or to use as reference to the Elmer Fudd article. Please help. Mavericker (talk) 15:09, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Ok...

So someone who reverted your edits on a former model page is now asking for that article to be deleted. I'm not sure why. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.101.6.158 (talk) 12:22, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Howdy. Thank you for the heads up. It appears that some editors want the article deleted because they think she is not notable enough for her to have her own article. I personally don't know enough about the model to know if she is notable enough to have her own article. I could probably do a bit of research to gain better knowledge of the model, but models honestly don't interest me that much.--Rockfang (talk) 17:06, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Summit, Waukesha County, Wisconsin

Hi-Many thanks for your comment. RFD (talk) 16:45, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Oi! Mate!

Why aren't you an admin yet? Rich Farmbrough, 21:57, 10 May 2012 (UTC).

Howdy. A couple reasons may be factors. No one has ever offered to nominate me and some editors view self-noms as less than ideal. A reason why no one has nominated me could be because my edit counts on a per month basis average are less than a typical administrator candidate.--Rockfang (talk) 05:41, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
I'd nominate you but at the moment that might disqualify you before you start... Rich Farmbrough, 19:30, 11 May 2012 (UTC).

Removing a usercat parameter setting from a template

Howdy. Why did you make this edit?--Rockfang (talk) 04:42, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Please see User_talk:Rick_Block#Wikipedia:List_of_administrator_hopefuls. - jc37 22:47, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for responding. Would you mind if I re-added the category? I think that the template is less useful without having that category associated with it.--Rockfang (talk) 02:30, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
Of course feel free to edit at your discretion. Though please drop Rick a note on what you do regarding this, since bots may be involved in the near future. - jc37 03:47, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
Cool. I'll drop him a line.--Rockfang (talk) 06:26, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Please stop adding video links to copyrighted videos as you did here regarding a Lady Gaga song. The video was uploaded to youtube by GagaVEVO, whoever that is, with no notice of the copyright being waived by the label. Binksternet (talk) 14:50, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Howdy. The company Vevo has contracts with music label companies such as Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and EMI. They are allowed to upload videos to Youtube from artists on those labels. I am aware of the policy WP:ELNEVER but the videos uploaded by Vevo to Youtube are not copyright violations. WikiProject Songs even lists Vevo as one of the possible sources of videos. I assume the reason they used the "GagaVEVO" username on Youtube was for Youtube users to easier find Lady Gaga's videos. That way they wouldn't have to sort through the half million videos that Vevo has.--Rockfang (talk) 19:46, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Can you establish a definite link between the uploader called GagaVEVO and Vevo the company? Something not circumstantial? Binksternet (talk) 03:08, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
The uploader account name on YouTube is actually LadyGagaVEVO. I see no reason to believe that the LadyGagaVEVO account has illegally uploaded Lady Gaga videos to YouTube. I think the fact that Interscope's profile page on YouTube has a Lady Gaga playlist containing numerous LadyGagaVEVO uploaded videos is a pretty good indicator that the videos are okay to be there. If the videos weren't allowed to be on YouTube I 1)don't think that Interscope would link to them and 2)think Interscope would have them removed from YouTube.--Rockfang (talk) 06:16, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
