IP

I accidentally forgot to log in and edited a page, which now shows my IP. Is there a way to get that removed, as well as the contributions page for the IP? StrawWord298944 (talk) 23:22, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @StrawWord298944! From my perceived knowledge I do not believe their is; even for people with actual accounts its hard to cover up a history since it would cause problems if an account was deleted outright, and an IP address probably can't do any of this due to the fact that its shared by anyone in the area. If this is of genuine concern to you, however, I can look into it a bit more for you. Panini! 🥪 00:12, 25 November 2022 (UTC)

Question from My Encyclopedia (16:16, 26 November 2022)

Back in 2017, for Wikipedia, I created two accounts. I want to know if I can merge the two and have just one username account. My two user name accounts are My Encyclopedia and My Cyclopedia. I just want the My Cyclopedia one. --My Encyclopedia (talk) 16:16, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello, @My Encyclopedia! This is an intriguing question that I myself do not have the answer to. I've reached out to a user renaming admin I know to see if this is possible, and I'll let you know as soon as I hear back! I'm going to do today's Wordle in the meantime. Panini! 🥪 16:59, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Alright @My Encyclopedia, I've got the answer: According to 331dot, "It is not possible to merge accounts. Best they can do is identify their current account as a successor to their old account("I am User5678, I was previously User1234")". Don't worry though, as long as you declare the old account is yours you wont be in any trouble. Panini! 🥪 17:44, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Well, I am meaning that I created My Encyclopedia first from a Sprint LG Tribute Duo smart phone back in 2017. Then, I created another username as My Cyclopedia because I was using an Amazon Fire Tablet and I did not know I could login with the username from the smart phone. It was my first time having small, portable, electronic computers that I knew close to nothing about how to use them. My Encyclopedia (talk) 03:38, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

Question from My Encyclopedia (03:48, 28 November 2022)

Ahoy! When I see a Wikipedia article for any topic, do I necessarily have to edit it in any way if I see something is written wrong? Am I supposed to add or delete words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs for any article that is too short or too long? --My Encyclopedia (talk) 03:48, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

In short, @My Encyclopedia, yes! There is no wrong way to improve an article. Just make sure you're doing it correctly to avoid any complications.
Help:Editing may be beneficial for you to begin. Just make sure that your content removal is justified and is not hurting the article's comprehensiveness, and any new details that you add are properly sourced with references. All of that is covered in the article that I linked, and I encourage you browse the other help articles linked there if you are confused about something. Have fun, and let me know if you have any questions! Panini! 🥪 12:28, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:45, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

HelenaB77 (talk) 10:19, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

@HelenaB77, I apologize that nobody responded to your talk page message you posted a while back. It may just be that nobody is actively watching the page, and therefore nobody was there to look at your message.
If I'm not mistaken you should be able to edit the page by now. Semi-protection (the type of page protection that is on the article currently) only prohibits IP users and newly registered users from editing the article, and any user that has an account older than four days and has made at least 10 edits should have full access. You registered about 5 months ago and have made a total of 19 edits, meaning you should be in the clear. If not, you may just need to make more edits to article that are in the main space (as in articles, excluding talk pages, user pages, etc.)
Please let me know if this is not working for you and I can give you some additional information! Panini! 🥪 15:32, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Bringing back the VG newsletter

Hello! I'm planning on bringing back the VG newsletter. IF you could help out that would be great but you don't have to if you're too busy. I'm asking you because you are one of the last people to have edited the Draft (I'm planning on including everything from Q2 2021 to now (Q4 2022)). I might also ask some of the people who help out with the signpost since I think the process they use is very similar. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:31, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out. There definitely is a reason for the newsletter stalling that I'm too short on time to explain at the moment, and because of this I won't be able to help out with the newsletter directly, but I can answer any questions here that you have about the process. Half-Life VR but the AI Is Self-Aware

Just FYI, you've listed me at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Video_games#New_Articles_(November_28_to_December_4) as having created the above page, but in fact it's a pre-existing page, all I did was move it to a slightly different title following a previous undiscussed move... I wonder if your bot has found the redirect Half-Life VR but the AI is Self-Aware, which looks like it was created by me even though that's actually just the result of a page move? Welcome to the 2023 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2023 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. Adoption request

Hello! I saw that you are accepting adoptees and I'd like to ask if you'd take me under your wing.

I tend to edit a little bit of everything; I don't tend to stick to a topic for long and I go wherever my interest (or the random button) takes me. Most of my edits are minor, though sometimes I rewrite pages that have been neglected. My reason for seeking adoption is to better understand Wikipedia's policies, namely NPOV, due weight, and original research, as well as reaching out and get involved in the WP community rather than making my edits and not engaging with anyone.

I've been doing the best with what I can find written on WP, but I think I'd benefit from someone who has experience using these policies "in the wild" rather than my own interpretation of them.

If you can't adopt, could you point me to someone who would be a good fit?

Thank you!

Question from FluTrackingTom (22:22, 9 January 2023)

G'day Panini, to say I'm grateful to have a wiki-mentor would be an understatement.

I'm trying to get a page started for FluTracking, a crowdsourced data set that monitors flu like symptoms in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Argentina. It is very similar to Influenzanet which has its own page.

I got some quick fire knock backs on my original draft (all valid) and have done my very best do address them. I am now struggling with finding suitable references for my page.

I intend to spend some time today (10/01/23) searching for more appropriate references and will add any existing references to the FluTracking website under and 'External Links' sub-header.

Do you know of any quick reference (cheat sheet) criteria I can use while assessing a potential reference's suitability? --FluTrackingTom (talk) 22:22, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Hello, @FluTrackingTom! Good question.
For us video game editors, we have it easy. Not only do we get this handy list of every reliable and unreliable video game source so we don't have to worry about it, we also run a search engine that only shows these reliable sources. Other editors, especially medically, don't have this luxury.
The closest thing you have is this list of commonly used sources, which should hopefully help you out a bit. This list also has its own search engine. Beyond that, it's up to your best judgement; to do so, everything you would need to look out for is documented on Wikipedia:Reliable sources, which does state some obvious facts, but this can be a really helpful tool for determining whether or not your source can be trusted. It's a big page, so please let me know if you have any questions! Panini! 🥪 15:56, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for those links, I will definitely check them out! FluTrackingTom (talk) 01:06, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

How to link a website while editing any article? --Barman koushik (talk) 12:23, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

Hello, @Barman koushik! Websites that are the subject of the article are usually placed at the bottom of an article under "External links". Here's how you do them (I'll use Youtube as a placeholder):
  • Copy and paste the URL around two sets of brackets: [https://www.youtube.com/]
  • This will appear as [7]
  • You can make the link say anything by putting a space after the URL, and putting any amount of text: [https://www.youtube.com/ Official website]

Hi! I feel there are enough sources to make this article get to good status but was wondering what you think + if you know anyone who might take a crack at this. Aside from the seven sources in the article, there are two more on the talk page plus a couple more I've seen. Timur9008 (talk) 17:19, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

What a coincidence, @Timur9008! I was just looking at this article a few minutes ago!
As far as I can tell, there aren't source amount requirements for good articles; if an article has enough reference to exist in general, it can become a GA with them too.
The article is a bit weak where it currently stands but it shouldn't be too difficult to get it to GA. I'll take some time in the future to expand the development section a bit to get things going. Panini! 🥪 17:29, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 March newsletter

So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:

  •   Unlimitedlead with 1205 points, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with two featured articles on historical figures and several featured article candidate reviews.
  •   Epicgenius was in second place with 789 points; a seasoned WikiCup competitor he specialises in buildings and locations in New York.
  •   FrB.TG was in third place with 625 points, garnered from a featured article on a filmmaker which qualified for an impressive number of bonus points.
  •   TheJoebro64, another WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points gained from two featured articles on video games.
  •   Iazyges was in fifth place with 532 points, from two featured articles on classical history.

The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included   LunaEatsTuna,   Thebiguglyalien,   Sammi Brie,   Trainsandotherthings,   Lee Vilenski,   Juxlos,   Unexpectedlydian,   SounderBruce,   Kosack,   BennyOnTheLoose and   PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Question from CREATOR34566 (18:03, 11 March 2023)

Hi, I hope you're doing well! I wanted to ask you a question that what kind of references should I add to my article. I have some published news articles, will they work. You know, my article has been declined, I'm thinking to resubmit my article with valid news articles. --CREATOR34566 (talk) 18:03, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello @CREATOR34566! The type of reference doesn't necessarily matter, so you don't necessarily need to use news articles if they aren't as helpful. What matters most is if the source is reliable. To understand what makes a reference a reliable, high quality one, check out Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Panini! 🥪 07:15, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello. Can you give me an example with how to cite references on a Wiki page? StrawWord298944 (talk) 19:09, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia, @StrawWord298944! There are a variety of different types of references, and it depends what it is you're citing (A website? A book? A newspaper? etc.). I gave step-by-step instructions on how to reference a website in this old discussion. @StrawWord298944 Removed. My assumption is that you were trying to remove the note by editing the Notes subheader, only to find it wasn't there; to remove notes, you have to delete the note where it lies within the article (as in, deleting the {{efn}} template from "Later changes"). The second round of the 2023 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to have scored 60 points to advance into round 3. Our top five scorers in round 2 all included a featured article among their submissions and each scored over 500 points. They were:

Other notable performances were put in by   Sammi Brie,   Thebiguglyalien,   MyCatIsAChonk,   PCN02WPS, and   AirshipJungleman29.

So far contestants have achieved thirteen featured articles between them, one being a joint effort, and forty-nine good articles. The judges are pleased with the thorough reviews that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Question from Metalicoo (23:46, 3 June 2023)

hi help me --Metalicoo (talk) 23:46, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

Hey there @Metalicoo! What can I help you out with? Panini! 🥪 20:18, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
help me,
how do i add the biography of this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Metalicoo
nesse link https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Olokomane&action=edit&redlink=1 ?? (in the second link, there is no option to create an article) Metalicoo (talk) 01:14, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
@Metalicoo Creating an article directly is restricted to users with more experience (mainly from editing milestones), but an article can be submitted for review through the Article Wizard process. However, I must inform you that if you submit your article it will be declined for the reasons I brought up in the email I sent you, so be wary that there are other fields of Wikipedia that you can have more luck in, such as basic editing. For all of the GA and FA articles you have made on Nintendo games, especially Kirby Star Allies. I'd say keep up the good work, but it looks like you already have. QuicoleJR (talk) 00:09, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks @QuicoleJR! It's always great to be recognized. Star Allies is a very old project of mine and looking back I think it could be much better. I think I see myself doing another Kirby game in the future to shake things up. Panini! 🥪 00:20, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

Mr. Game & Watch

Hello there. It seems like you were second author after the IP. I think Mr. Game and Watch is weird and interesting to work. Do you think theres more add before sending it to GAN? (Only if you want to collab). GreenishPickle! (🔔) 12:12, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

Hello! I'm currently on vacation so I am unable to help with the project at this time, although I can give advice as needed.
I feel you should do two things before you follow through with GAN: First, see if you cam find some more critic commentary on the character (the only explicit mention right now is from ScreenRant, an unreliable source). I also suggest you send the article through WP:GOCE, as last I checked the article a while back the prose was a bit sloppy.
While you are at you should see if there is any other information you can add to the article. I made a development section because I liked the character and there wasnt one prior, and although I did add some other information i dont belive I hit all of it because I wasnt trying to. Although I cant help directly Im here on my talk page if you have any questions! Panini! 🥪 16:17, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

Hello Cukie Gherkin! Yep, although I had this vacation planned for a while I didn't plan to go so hard on GANs in the meantime. I should be back to address your comments on all of them in about a week or two.

Question from Mahmoud.Refaat.Mahmoud (14:36, 1 July 2023)

how to write an article about a famous person? --Mahmoud.Refaat.Mahmoud (talk) 14:36, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Mahmoud.Refaat.Mahmoud! I recommend using the Article Wizard tool to write an article about a famous person. Make sure you follow along with the information and guidelines relating to biographies about living people, as Wikipedia takes this matter very esriously in order to not present false information. Question from 30MarB on User:Courcelles (12:56, 4 July 2023)

Hi Panini... I see you have been activated as my mentor, thank you. It seems I missed a lot of emails from wikipedia. I have been blocked on someones one sided wrongful allegation that somehow they believe I have a sense of ownership to editing a page I have been for years, I reverted page changes a couple of times and had mentioned there's false information added, though I was invited for a discussion via email but I was unable to respond so I was blocked wrongfully. How can I be unblocked? --30MarB (talk) 12:56, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

Good evening @30MarB, and my apologies for the very late reply. To request an unblock, please follow the steps mentioned to you on your talk page, which I have copy and pasted below for reference:
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text at the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.
Let me know if you have any questions about the process! The administrator who has blocked might also be willing to elaborate on your block further if you ask and as long as you remain civil and respectful. Panini! 🥪 01:34, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
