Brazilian IP-hopping vandal

Just wanted to drop a thanks for your efforts to revert that IP-hopper who keeps providing unsourced dates of birth and changing the possibly living people category. In the extremely unlikely event that anyone gives you crap for it, feel free to send them in this direction. Cheers. Canadian Paul 18:09, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

@Canadian Paul: - no problem. I initially thought it was just someone with good-faith edits assuming the subjects were still 100% alive. Didn't know it was a wider problem! On a related note, I've had my own IP vandals in the past. If it continues, then a rangeblock for a few weeks should help. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 07:26, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Wow, yours was even worse. Thanks for the tip; I might consult a more experienced admin about the rangeblock if this persists. Canadian Paul 16:12, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Fred Berry (cricketer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.

Comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2017 Paris machete attack

Hello. I saw your comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2017 Paris machete attack and thought it was a good laugh, so I used it on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2017 Jerusalem Light Rail stabbing. I immediately got admonished for it because it was extremely inappropriate. To that end, I'm going to warn you not to do that either, seeing as there wasn't any warning against you for that comment. Apologizing in advanceretrospect

Someone on ANI just admitted they plan on trolling your talk page because of something I said. Blank them if/when they post here, and just ignore it. If you wanna weigh in on ANI that's your business.

And I apologize for my initial use of the plural to imply that I thought your (grim-dark, but not outrageous) comment was on a par with his (which was grossly inappropriate). I am not familiar with the 2017 Paris machete attack, and was trying to be coy.

Page mover granted

Hello, Lugnuts. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Film stub notability checklist

Greetings Lugnuts, long-long time since our paths crossed. Glad to see your name still connected to WP Films. I'm on a ten-years-after spree in Films, checking progress in various areas and doing some minor gnoming around. But also I happen to be compiling a work-list of film stubs tagged for notability. I posted a to-do in the documentray task force, but I see it's long inactive. Any idea of some film task force fellows who might be into this kind of cleanup work? Hoverfish Talk 01:24, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

@Hoverfish: - good to see you around, too! I think most task-forces have low participation now. I think the best thing is to drop a note at WT:FILM, as that's pretty active these days. I'll take a look at your list and do some work when I can. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:41, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Richard Battye

Hi Lugnuts. I know the subject of this article (he was one of my PhD supervisors), and he just mentioned to me that he's seen the article you recently created on him. He is both a cricketer and an astronomer - the edits you reverted were made by him. Obviously I can't edit the article as I have a COI (and he definitely shouldn't be editing the article himself!), but perhaps you could have another look at it and revise it as appropriate? Some bios/information on him are at:

(More are available if you google "richard battye astronomer"). Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 10:32, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

@Mike Peel: - thanks for this. I do remember the revert, as I was intrigued by the subject too. I did look for sources to use, but the problem I found was that they all state he is an astronomer, or that he played cricket, but I couldn't find anything a single source to say both (IE that the individual is one and the same). I know it sounds unlikely that there are two different people with the same name, but I couldn't find anything to tie the two together. If you find anything, let me know, and I'll expand the article. Thanks again. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:20, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
I'm afraid I don't know of any sources that specifically confirm that the same person is both - but I can personally confirm that they are definitely the same person! If you look at his personal details on the University of Manchester site they say that he was from Huddersfield and went to Cambridge University (where he was on their cricket team), if that would be sufficient? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 13:05, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Mike - I've made a small update. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:11, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Lugnuts. I've added some extra categories and a navigation template, which I think is non-controversial (and with no COI issues), but if it's a problem at all then please revert me. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 06:16, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Aaron Crawley

The Irish cricketer who made his debut for Munster Reds last night, while Cricinfo seems to refer to him as Aaron Crawley, all press coverage I can find on him names him as Aaron Cawley [4] [5] [6], while a quick google of Aaron Crawley brings up nothing but his new Cricinfo profile. It appears to be the same cricketer and a mistake on Cricinfo's part, but before I moved the page I wanted to ask your opinion. Thanks Ytfc23 (talk) 09:13, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

@Ytfc23: I was just updating the roster for Munster Reds as I got your ping and spotted the red-link to him. I'll move him now, per those sources. Thanks for spotting that. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:16, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Can you please show me where you got these ICC codes from? I've never seen the ICC use three-letter codes for national cricket teams, so I've just been going with the IOC/FIFA/UEFA ones. – PeeJay 13:47, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi @PeeJay2K3: - I assume you mean two-letter and not three?! :D Hard to find since the ICC re-designed their site (grrrr), but if you look lists like this and this, they use two-letter codes for NZ, SA, etc. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:00, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

Discussion on Film censorship in China

Hello! You've listed yourself as a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Chinese cinema task force. There is currently a discussion that may be of interest to you at Film censorship in China about changes to the table on the article, what information should be listed in the table, and general criteria for a film's inclusion. Please see Talk:Film censorship in China#Changes. If it is also of interest, there is also a discussion at the same article about adding scholarly literature and further historical information to the article. ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 03:38, 14 June 2017 (UTC)

Opinion about list-table format for films

Hi Lugnuts, before I infest more articles with this list-like table format, can you please take a look at it and walk me over some fire about it [7]? Thanks. Hoverfish Talk 00:28, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi. IMO, those tables look quite odd, esp. with the highlighting seemingly spilling out into space. I know it's a lot of work to build the tables/reformat them, but check out the 2017 article for the style that's used (certainly in the more recent editions of Cannes, Berlin, etc). Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:44, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

I know about wikitable and have no problem applying it to lists. However lists are more easy to check through without so much scrolling up and down, especially when folded via {{div col||30em}}{{div col end}}. A page with only lists looks more readable, the eye sees where a section starts and ends, while a page like the 2017 article look terribly long and information is very spread out in space. So I was trying to combine the merits of both list format and tables, but if it looks odd to you, I will simply forget about it and work with lists. Of course I wouldn't turn any existing table to list form. - But the highlighting issue is another matter. I use three browsers to check for rendering and in none of them do I see this spilling you mention. If you mean the two non-breaking spaces I add after the last letter so that the highlighting extends a bit after the last letter, this can be fixed by removing the extra spaces. But if you see more of a spilling out, I wonder how this can be... Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Hoverfish Talk 10:37, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

I removed the extra highlighting space in the example I gave you above. Hoverfish Talk 10:40, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Ihab El-Lebedy

The article Ihab El-Lebedy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

dependent on only one source which is not reliable and also lacks notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. FilmAffinity

Hello, when I posted about {{FilmAffinity}} at WT:FILM, you suggested putting it up for deletion. I just removed a whole bunch of templates and revisited the discussion and saw your comment about that. I think it's time to discuss deleting it, considering how little-known it is. I can't tell if the template is being spammed for more web traffic or if some neutral editors are seeing it and thinking they are helping out by adding that EL elsewhere. Either way, I think it warrants TfD. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 13:48, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

This is to inform you that an attempt is being made to overturn an RfC that you voted on (2 RfCs, actually, one less than six months ago and another a year ago). The new RfC is at:

Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#RfC: Allow private schools to be characterized as non-affiliated as well as religious, in infobox?

Specifically, it asks that "religion = none" be allowed in the infobox.

The first RfC that this new RfC is trying to overturn is:

The result of that RfC was "unambiguously in favour of omitting the parameter altogether for 'none' " and despite the RfC title, additionally found that "There's no obvious reason why this would not apply to historical or fictional characters, institutions etc.", and that nonreligions listed in the religion entry should be removed when found "in any article".

The second RfC that this new RfC is trying to overturn is:

The result of that RfC was that the "in all Wikipedia articles, without exception, nonreligions should not be listed in the Religion= parameter of the infobox.".

Stop messin about...

Thanks for the ref. I found this which says the flat was demolished. I was hoping for the diaries, but I think this happened after Williams died. I'm operating on an iPhone at the moment, which isn't ideal, so I'll get on this when I get home. CassiantoTalk 17:37, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Hehe, thanks @Cassianto:! I'll take a look at his article (and other related Carry On ones) and do some basic work. Thought they'd be in good shape, but I guess not. Can't believe it's more than a decade since I created this template: {{Carry On}} Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:41, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
May I shamelessly plug Carry On series on screen and stage which I completed a year or so ago now. I loved them, I thought they were great! CassiantoTalk 17:52, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
Re KW's flat. I dunno if this helps [[8]] seems to be a blog but it's from David Benson which gives it some weight. It may be of some use. Simon. Irondome (talk) 17:44, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Simon. Is it reliable enough to use? CassiantoTalk 17:53, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
Him and Wes bloody broke in at night and left a photo of KW in his old flat. It comes from a weird angle but I would say yes! Si Irondome (talk) 17:59, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
Nice work on the film series list! Lots of refs to the BFI are showing as being dead, but it's not true (check the couple of fixes I've made so far). Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:00, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
Sorry to clutter up your T/P Lugnuts, but i've also found a reliable looking piece on KW's various blue plaques in his previous residences, which confirms the demolition in 2007.[[9]] Other material on his past homes may be of interest too. Simon Irondome (talk) 18:46, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
No worries - and thanks for the link. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:11, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Cricket women

Re: [10], please reconsider your position. Labelling them "Women" *every single time* the team is mentioned comes off as quite sexist (the articles on the men's teams don't call them "Australia Men" etc.). It is unnecessary, as there is no chance of confusion between the women's and men's teams. No other sports article seem to do this (e.g. 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup). The standard for Women's Cricket World Cup is not even to label the teams that way – the 1997, 2009, and 2013 articles are the only ones that do so, all the rest just give the country name.

Tetzlaff

Dear Lugnuts: I knew the late Bob Tetzlaff. He was never known as "Rob Tetzlaff." Please edit the article you apparently created. http://www.usbhof.org/inductee-by-year/88-bob-tetzlaff Bob Tetzlaff graduated from San Jose State, became known as the "King of the Road" in U.S. cycling, was on the U.S. cycling team in the Olympics and Pan American Games, and coached the U.S. cycling team in the 1968 Olympics. He resided in San Jose and Los Gatos. Outside of cycling, Tetzlaff had a long career as teacher at Daves Avenue School in Monte Sereno, CA. Thank you for allowing me to contact you. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Twistlaw (talk) 15:29, 29 June 2017 (UTC) Thomas P. Higgins

Have a cuppa.

After all that work adding info on En Marche politicians, you deserve a good ol' British cuppa. Keep doing a great job :) | Naypta opened his mouth at 08:47, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
