Prodding an article expanded from redirect is usually a bad idea...

A topic doesn't need to meet every applicable notability criterion to be notable. Even profs who are not notable according to WP:NPROF are commonly notable under WP:NAUTHOR or WP:GNG if they have published books or gotten media attention. I try to check all avenues of notability and alternatives to deletion before proposing deletion of an article. (t · c) buidhe 01:30, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

I understand you @Buidhe:. It was really not expanded; it is a stub, and my own checks have determined that there is not NPROF notability. I can leave you to decide to redirect or merge and failing that, I can send it to draft or to AfD. Please stop filling up all the picture slots in prep sets if you don't intend to actually build one. It doesn't really serve much purpose at all, does it? @AirshipJungleman29: This is such a surprising message. I had no such intention. I just thought the promoted images and articles were great. My practice has always been to promote a few nominations a day. I do not ever fill a whole set. I do not think there is any rule about building a whole set. I try to help when I can. I have closed the AE request opened against you. Please consider this a formal warning to observe proper decorum in discussions, especially in contentious topics and when discussing living people. Discussions can often get heated in these topic areas and the last thing they need is further inflammation. As I stated at AE, the nuances in the way we discuss transgender people, especially before their transition, can be difficult but speculating on medical conditions a living subject may have suffered is inappropriate and statements like "women do not have testicles" (as far as they relate to gender identity and an identified living person) are provocative and unnecessary. It is not necessary or helpful to express your personal opinions on article subjects (cf. WP:SOAP). This warning will be logged at the arbitration enforcement log under gender/sexuality and BLP and may be referred to if you are brought to AE for similar issues in the future and may have a bearing on admins' decision to impose sanctions but I sincerely hope that the warning is all that is necessary. I will not pursue the matter but I thought you should know that I do not target anyone on the project. I have interacted with El C maybe 4 times in the last 5 years. As for your above statement, it will be easy to follow your advice. I appreciate an administrator such as yourself who understands the issues and does not assume bad faith. DYK concern for Nakba denial

Hello, I see Nakba denial briefly had its neutrality templates removed, including when you reviewed it, but the issues have not been resolved. There could in theory be a neutral article written about this distinct from Nakba but it's being maintained as a POV fork: obvious corrections using the exact text developed at existing, more balanced articles, are reverted without discussion. I don't have time to resolve right now, but it is an unrepresentative take on a hot topic, and seems a poor target for a DYK. – SJ + 18:49, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

@Sj: Your opinion is that it is a POV fork but that was not determined in the recent AfD. You have hung a dispute tag on the article, placed a notice on the talk page of the article, placed a notice the DYK template, and notified me here on my talk page. Hi there. Wanted to reach out regarding your comment on Template:Did you know nominations/Bitter Legacy. I'm not super involved in DYK, so I want to calibrate. Generally when I've been writing or doing QPQ, I have leaned on the WP:DYKINT guidance of about hooks especially things like intriguing or unusual, leave the reader wanting to know more. Do you mind sharing your opinion on why the linked hook might not meet the criteria? @Siroxo: I don't usually reject nominations based on "interesting". You did nothing wrong in approving the hook and our guidelines say likely to be perceived as unusual or intriguing by readers with no special knowledge or interest. It was rather factual and uninteresting to me but I promoted it. It is ok for us to have different opinions because it is a subjective criteria. Hi, I just wanted to explain myself regarding the referencing style at Matilda Cole. Adjacent references for me are anathema; aside from the fact that they technically violate WP:SEAOFBLUE, different sources omit different details, and I believe in verifiability. That said, do you know offhand of a tool that can highlight where references are not next to punctuation? I'm working on Piri's article on and off as I'd like to get it to FA and I'm essentially clumping them together using {{Notetag}}. (And if you can think of a neater way of doing it, I'm all ears.) @Launchballer: I would look to see if there are any GAs or FAs that use this (in sentence) citation style. There are many different styles are used on the project but I prefer them end of sentence and our guidelines seem to agree. If we look at the first sentence in the Life and career section of Matilda_Cole#Life_and_career there are six citations within one sentence every few words.

The second sentence in that section is similar in that there are five in sentence citations. I did not check if all of them are needed, but the numerous citations within a sentence are distracting. I do not think end of sentence citations violates WP:SEAOFBLUE since that involves actual text blue links, but in the case of the sentence I have mentioned above we could refer to the guidelines of WP:OVERCITE or WP:REFBOMB. Is it possible that the citations in that sentence are duplicative and can be consolidated end of sentence? I mentioned in the nomination WP:CITEFOOT it is usually sufficient to add the citation to the end of the clause, sentence. Lightburst (talk) 15:42, 9 December 2023 (UTC)

Ref 1 is a song directory that contains a list of songs and no other biographical information other than her name. Ref 2 contains Sussex, Brighton, and Camden, though is unclear which (she could mean the London Borough of Camden - though I am from London, so perhaps I'm showing my bias). Ref 3 says LA and Camden, but is also unclear which (and I think Los Angeles is common enough that she's unlikely to mean anywhere else). Only ref 4 says "Camden Town", which means all four are necessary. (Ref 5 I have moved to later anyway, but I'm using a bit of WP:SKYISBLUE since it describes "a Buddhist school that's closed down now", of which there has only ever been one in this country and it was in Patcham near Brighton - though perhaps I should add a reference to that effect.) I appreciated your comment here. I agree with your take and think that someone who a) prides themself on being unnecessarily nasty towards editors who they personally dislike, and b) frequents a Kiwi Farms-lite harassment site dedicated to airing Wikipedians’ dirty laundry without their knowledge or consent so spiteful ex-Wikipedians can mock them, should not be an admin let alone an arbitrator. At the time of the cited incident I probably would have sided with Beeb/JSS because I considered you my enemy at the time, but I’ve since been on the on the receiving end of their contempt and that of other supposedly respectable users who use so-called Wikipedia:BADSITES and think maybe it’s time for some stricter ethics standards for users in positions of authority. Thanks. I was upset with your ANI a few years ago but I never thought of you as an enemy. We all need friends or at least respect on here and we should always remind ourselves that each of us are donating labor. Time heals all wounds but the edit history remains. Sadly we can refresh our memories about every perceived slight by looking at previous edits. I read through that Halloween thread that you started several times. Oddly enough I looked at it yesterday and I had to stop reading it lest I remember the folks who said awful things about me. I think that there is one thing getting chastised by the community does for you: it frees you up to speak truth to power. To me, Beebs never seemed like the adult in the room. The fact that they cannot be trusted should be a disqualifier for an admin position. But going forward maybe you and I can each appreciate each other's contributions to the project. Hi Lightburst: Perhaps you were referring to something different. But I've just seen your "have a health issue" remark and my reaction was similar to ScottishFinnishRadish's. Perhaps you were recalling a different RfA from the one where the candidate simply disappeared mid-RfA and the reason turned out to be a life-threatening cardiac event, because I'm sure you would not wish to imply that such events are simply due to getting too wound up, let alone comparable to the "ANI flu". Or perhaps you weren't aware of the full story because it only emerged after the RfA had been closed. I can't believe you would intentionally be so meanspirited while making a comparison out of a generous motivation toward the recent candidate. Yngvadottir (talk) 23:34, 16 December 2023 (UTC)

@Yngvadottir: Thanks for the message. I was stating the concern that SFR and ATG were referring to when they wanted folks to stop voting. I was saying that none of us wanted PE to frustration quit or get worked up enough to have a health issue as a result of reading the oppose rationales. The candidate was in good spirits and taking on the criticism-and they wanted to let the RFA run. In the case that I am tone-deaf what would you like me to do? Yes, I get that that was your motivation, and I appreciate the sentiment. And this is on your talk page, and intentionally a bit vague, because there's nothing that can be done now to put the toothpaste back in the tube. But I would rather attribute the health mention to obliviousness—or your thinking of someone else entirely—than believe you to have been that "tone-deaf". @GhostOfDanGurney: I am ultimately going to err on the side of protecting the volunteers and the content they create. If I get a hint that someone is going to be punitive or do a rapid-double-revert with no discussion I will oppose. I am ok being in the minority when registering my vote.

I think if we could vote privately it would be best for the project. Many editors who presently want to be a sysop will rubber-stamp candidates. Bradv Fewer admins is better than just adding admins that may not be right for the job. I am not infallible as you know - for instance I opposed your nomination for low main space participation. But I never thought of you as knee-jerk or punitive. I see this candidate as too involved in the drama forums and often they suggest harsh punishments for volunteers. We could probably use more admins like you, or Barkeep49 but those are not easy to find. Lightburst (talk) 19:17, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

The issue I have with that statement is that having fewer admins will just lead to uneven, inconsistent, or even biased enforcement. There are other Wikipedias that have suffered from this issue, most notably the Croatian Wikipedia which was taken over by far-right nationalists (at the time they only had 27 administrators). I'm sure you know from your content work that only having a few editors on an article (particularly a controversial one) will allow their biases to shine through, whereas having lots of editors means it should eventually achieve neutrality (this is one of the core philosophical ideas behind Wikipedia – similar to Linus's law in the free/open source software world).

The other point I would like to make is that I wasn't a good admin before my RfA. Similarly, I wasn't a good father before my first child was born. If I can claim either of these titles at this point, a lot of the credit is due to those around me. Getting good at something requires not just hard work, but also constructive criticism and positive feedback loops. You had no past behavior that would indicate that you would be shouting Boomerang at dozens of editors who come to ANI for help. Temperament

I noticed you inadvertently linked my RfA vote I made at the recently-withdrawn RfA. You're not necessarily wrong that my temperament isn't right for adminship, and that's why I have no plans on running anytime soon. While I think Banks Irk's comments went beyond criticism of the candidate on the merits into insulting, and they've now been blocked, perhaps my comment wasn't really necessary. I'll try to express disagreement more civilly going forward (I could have simply said "while I disagree with Banks Irk's reasoning"). I appreciate you striking your comment mentioning me. I think we have different viewpoints on a lot of matters, but I've noticed and appreciated your helpful contributions at places like DYK. Enjoy your New Year. The comment you made was technically WP:AVOIDYOU but I am not surprised Banks Irk was blocked. It is about the fourth editor I have seen blocked after opposing in an RFA.
