ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. WikiCup 2016 is just around the corner...

Hello everyone, and we would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2016 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. There are some changes we'd like to announce before the competition begins.

After two years of serving as WikiCup judge, User:Miyagawa has stepped down as judge. He deserves great thanks and recognition for his dedication and hard work, and for providing necessary transition for a new group of judges in last year's Cup. Joining Christine (User:Figureskatingfan) and Jason (User:Sturmvogel 66) is Andrew (User:Godot13), a very successful WikiCup competitor and expert in Featured Pictures; he won the two previous competitions. This is a strong judging team, and we anticipate lots of enjoyment and good work coming from our 2016 competitors.

We would also like to announce one change in how this year's WikiCup will be run. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Godot13 and Cwmhiraeth have chosen to limit their participation. See here for the announcement and a complete explanation of why. They and the judges feel that it will make for a more exciting, enjoyable, and productive competition.

The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. The judges are committed to not repeating the confusion that occurred last year and to ensuring that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2016: Game On!

We are about to enter the second week of the 2016 WikiCup. The most recent player to sign up brings the current total to 101 contestants. Signups close on 5 February. If you’re interested, you can join this year's WikiCup here.

We are aware that in some areas the scoring bot’s numbers are a little bit off (i.e., overly generous) and are working to have that corrected as soon as possible.--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:04, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

changing my page

stop changing my page. Why should the page of Jack Hansen be a dead rugby player who played no significant role in this world. I deserve a wiki page over him since I am actually alive. Leave this page alone so I can get on with my life.

Thanks, Jack Hansen

Jarrod Moses

You declined the sandbox version of Draft:Jarrod Moses, saying that it already exists in Wikipedia. I don't see an article on this businessman. The existing draft has problems, but please let me know why you said it was duplicated. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:00, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello. According to the deletion log of the article Jarrod Moses, it seems that it has been deleted beforehand so I believe that, when I searched for "Jarrod Moses", the article was still live on the article namespace. Origination of Free Bet Blackjack

Liance,

I received your message regarding the removal of my update to the Mirage page regarding Free Bet Blackjack.

You can check out this page (http://www.downloadblackjack.com/free-bet-blackjack-casinos/) to see that the first Free Bet Blackjack table in Vegas was at the Golden Nugget. I can also personally confirm that, as I started playing Free Bet Blackjack at the Golden Nugget in August, 2012. Free Bet Blackjack was installed at the Mirage as the second Vegas location, with many more that have since followed.

Actually, if you read the source that is cited (http://thepogg.com/thepogg-interviews-geoff-hall-creator-of-blackjack-switch/), Geoff is actually quoted as saying "I will actually be in Vegas from November 25th - December 16th training and installing my new 'Free Bet Blackjack' game into The Mirage and Casino Royale, following an excellent trial at The Golden Nugget." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhinoman7 (talkcontribs) 18:52, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Liance Thank you for your assistance.

Liance this is my first Wiki entry for a full article and I am still getting a feel for how it works. This person I am trying to add to the Wikipedia is a football executive since 2002 and is currently with one of the top Serie A professional Football Clubs in Italy. There is so much material on him that I will take a few days to sift through it all. I am unclear what the difference is between references and external references. Be patient with me because if I do get a handle on this Wikipedia editing then I think I can become very passionate about contributing to the project. I have declined your speedy on /Eulerian-Evolution-Lie-Bracket-Diffeomorphism-Group-CA, because WP:CSD#A1 is only for "very short" articles, which this is not. Certainly it needs an introductory section and a better title, but it is not a speedy candidate. I have moved it to Draft:Eulerian-Evolution-Lie-Bracket-Diffeomorphism-Group-CA. Request on 12:01:31, 16 February 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by 11lionsd

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Sandro_Mencucci&oldid=705160426 Thank you for reviewing my article. It has been rejected based on the assumption that I have not utilized reliable sources. I have quoted sources such as reputable newspapers such as the New York Times, Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, La Nazione where Sandro Mencucci is referenced notably and indisputably as the CEO (amministratore delegato AD in Italian) of the ACF Fiorentina Football Club. I have referenced the federations and governing bodies of the football world such as FIFA, FIGC as well as other reputable calcio websites such as transfer market, calcio mercato as well as the ACF Fiorentina website Viola Channel and ACF Fiorentina Wikipedia page all in which Sandro Mencucci is identified as the CEO (amministratore delagato in Italian) of the ACF Fiorentina Football Club since the Della Valle era 2002. When I have referenced outside organizations such as Save the Children, Pune City FC or NorCal Premier League, CalcioDonne I have referenced those organizations websites directly where they identify Sandro Mencucci as the CEO (amministratore delegato AD in Italian) of the ACF Fiorentina Football Club. In addition to this, I have listed 19 published books with valid ISBNs who speak about Football in Italy and the club ACF Fiorentina and its history and contributions to the world of Football and they all specifically reference Sandro Mencucci as the CEO (amministratore delegato AD in Italian)of the ACF Fiorentina Football Club since the Della Valle era 2002. Other than to use reputable newspapers, national and international authorities and governing bodies in the world of Football, and published books on the topic of contemporary ACF Fiorentina as a valid organization to validate the existence and contribution of its 13 year Football manager Sandro Mencucci I am only left to understand that the issue with all due respect to the reviewer who has ample experience in libraries, that perhaps the issue is a language barrier. Perhaps the fact that with the exception of the New York Times articles and the FIFA, FIGC, Save the Children, NorCal Premiere League Viola Channel and Transfer Market, the majority of these references are from notable authors and journals but are written in Italian. If the reviewer is not familiar with the resources and their importance to Italy and to the world of Football (i.e. FIFA) then I would like to request that someone with ample knowledge of these international governing bodies and who has sufficient knowledge of Italian review my resources. Thank you. 11lionsd (talk) 12:01, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Some of the sources are still not independent and reliable (such as the Wikipedia article and the PDF hosted on Dropbox), but many more have been added. Request on 20:26:36, 23 February 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by BePoTech

I need assistance because this is the least user-friendly website when trying to create a simple page about a company the the assistance I've received has not helped me at all. I originally created my account with username "BePowerTech" then when I tried to create a page called "Be Power Tech" I was told the username and page name cannot be the same. So today I created a new username "BePoTech" and tried to create a page and received the following feedback:

Although warned both about COI and your username, you've continued to edit the article in your sandbox, and it appears that you submitted your sandbox for reviewing. There are a couple of problems here. First, you still need to change your username and to declare your conflict of interest. The information is all in the original COI information that I placed here. Second, when submitted to AfC for review, a sandbox is supposed to become a draft article. Why that sometimes does not happen I do not know, but it does. I could copy it to draft space, but I will not do so while you are editing in violation of the COI and namespace policies. You need to say what your relationship is with the company, and you need to change your username. LaMona (talk) 19:27, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

I started with a blank page today so for LaMona to tell me that I "continued to edit my article in my sandbox" is not true. If I knew how to fix my namespace problem I obviously would have done so. LaMona is not giving clear enough direction on how to fix this problem. Regarding the COI issue, I will work to resolve this.

Can you please help me with this namespace problem so that I can continue to work on this page and resolve the COI problem? If there is a phone number I can call that would be great because so far this "talk" option has only caused me more frustration.

One of your draft reviews

For your future reference, your review of Draft:Luke John Burrows (which I've just deleted as an attack page) was completely inadequate (you simply reviewed it as lacking context). You need to take the time to ensure you're properly reviewing pages likes this one, as attack pages are considered something that needs immediate attention from administrators (whether in or outside of the draft space). One of Adam Cuerden’s several quality restorations during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Forty-seven competitors move into this round (a bit shy of the expected 64), and we are roughly broken into eight groups of six. Twenty-two Good Articles were submitted, including three by   Cyclonebiskit (submissions), and two each by   MPJ-DK (submissions),   Hurricanehink (submissions),   12george1 (submissions), and   Cas Liber (submissions). Twenty-one Featured Pictures were claimed, including 17 by   Adam Cuerden (submissions) (the Round 1 high scorer). Thirty-one contestants saw their DYKs appear on the main page, with a commanding lead (28) by   Cwmhiraeth (submissions). Twenty-nine participants conducted GA reviews with   J Milburn (submissions) completing nine.

Good Morning -- I wanted to confirm whether my article on the subject of Dean Faulkner Wells, was published on Wikipedia. I received your note saying the article already exists, but I never received an email from Wiki notifying me that the article was published/accepted - though I have actually received a few emails from outside interested parties saying they can see the article on Wiki. In any case, I have been updating the article as much as possible in the hopes of it being published and as I said I just wanted to confirm that the article is available to the public. Thank you very much for your assistance. Sorry for the long note. ~~Penslips

Race Car Replicas page

Thanks for the suggestions about improving the article. I removed the references to wikipedia in most of the cases, and replaced them with external links.

As to notability, please see the Kit Cars wikipedia page[1], and the dead reference to Race Car Replicas. A similar company, Factory Five Racing [2], also has a page that is referenced from the Kit Car article, and I loosely modeled the RCR page on that already-approved page.

Thanks, VMAX211Vmax211 (talk) 00:14, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

03:45:54, 27 April 2016 review of submission by Vmax211

I don't know if this is redundant- I'm still a noob in terms of article creation, and I think I have already answered these questions elsewhere. But if not, here are the responses:

The two stated reasons for rejection were a lack of notability and inadequate external references.

Re the notability issue, Race Car Replicas has a link to a dead page from the Kit Cars page. Another company, much like RCR, is Factory Five Racing. They are also linked from the Kit Cars page, and have their own article.

My submission for the RCR page was to add an article in the same vein as that of the Factory Five article, as they are very similar companies in the same general marketplace (though one serves the lower-end, and one the higher end).

The existing Factory Five article also has relatively sparse external references- I think the one I submitted has more.

I tried to replace internal references to the RCR page with externals where it made sense to me. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks!

The statement is not new but is feared by many professionals to be a threat to job security. Only some have dared to mention it openly. There are references. It is the most agreed modern view, but a silent back room consensus.

To make this fly, what is needed besides references to establish it as the modern view among scientist today?

Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)

New Page Review needs your help

Hi Liance,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Liance. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Request on 21:30:29, 22 November 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Prerobin

In rejecting my revised draft page on Reading Hebrew Congregation today, you highlighted notability and the independence and substantive nature of sources. It may be that the source "Portrait of a Community" appeared not to be independent of the Congregation. I have confirmed that it was written, published and paid for independently of the Congregation. The text was approved by editors who were not the author or the Congregation. Copies were purchased by individuals. Sue Krisman, the author, is a professional author. The book of 80 pages cites and displays many original sources and discusses the Congregation directly and in great detail. Reading Hebrew Congregation has been in existence for the entire period of the organised Jewish community in Reading, has many unique features and believe is sufficiently notable to justify its own Wikipedia page. Please can you advise what more I need to do to make the page acceptable.

Please explain why you deleted inclusion of two newly invented squat exercises?

Hello Liance,

Can you please help me understand why my edits on the Squats (Exercise) Wiki were deleted? The SmithShaper Squat and the SmithShaper Wall Facing Squat are in fact two new types of squats made possible by a newly invented and patent pending wearable rolling wall exerciser known as the SmithShaper Ab & Squat Roller. These are completely different that "Smith Machine" squats and forward facing wall squats. Maybe that was the confusion. Let me know.

In response to your message on my talk page

Hello Moraleslou. I removed your edits on Squat (exercise) because I felt that the two entries you added to the list were not as established as the other entries. On Wikipedia, content must be significantly covered and established, and I felt that those two squats you added weren't very established. If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me again on my talk page. -Liancetalk/contribs 22:28, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Liance,

Thanks for your response. I understand and agree. I will check back in a year or two, if and when the SmithShaper squat routines become more mainstream and established.

New page reviewer granted

Hello Liance. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:10, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Liance,

Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 816 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.

Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Liance,

A HUGE backlog

We now have 816 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.
