RfD close templates

Hey, I noticed that you closed a few RfDs yesterday and placed the close template above the relevant subsections' headers. This interferes with the WP:XfDcloser script's section detection; close templates need to go below the relevant subsection header. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/J.D. Mata

Closing this as a soft delete was probably not a great close, because there was already a keep vote, which means a PROD no longer applies anyway. Within half an hour there was a request at WP:REFUND to restore said article. The best option would have been to relist to encourage more discussion or if you absolutely wanted to close it No Consensus. McMatter ^(talk)/_(contrib) 17:49, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Spider articles

Hi, please use the World Spider Catalog directly for references to spider species. It is considered the definitive source of spider taxonomy. Using a source that mirrors the WSC risks, as with Gorbiscape agelenoides, using out-of-date information.

A typical reference to the WSC for a species will be of the form:

By the way, we don't usually create articles for spider subspecies, like Agelena jumbo kiwuensis, unless they are of some special significance. Just list the subspecies at the species article. As it happens, the currently accepted name in the World Spider Catalog for Agelena jumbo is Mistaria jumbo, and Agelena jumbo kiwuensis is accepted as the full species Mistaria kiwuensis, so a move is needed. The removal of the paragraph about Suharto from this article is the subject of an ongoing debate on the article Talk page. Please remove the material you restored. I'm not edit warring with anyone. It is a violation of WP:NPOV to include Suharto's anti-socialist killings without including the much more monstrous, many times more numerous pro-socialist killings by Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. @MillLocke: We're not concerned about the authorship of the photo. The issue is that the photo is a derivative work of copyrighted elements, in this case the sign and sculpture. It would not be an issue if the source country has "freedom of panorama" for both 2D and 3D artworks, but that is not the case with the United States. Ixfd64 (talk) 18:55, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

PROD'd files

Hello, Ixfd64,

I just wanted to thank you for going through file categories and tagging so many unused, personal photos for PROD deletion. They were uploaded during a different time on Wikipedia and it's good that they are starting to be cleared out. I'm not sure how you locate them and I'm sure they are just a drop in the bucket compared to the unused, personal photos on the Commons but I think it's good to get rid of these files that will never be used in articles or even on User pages. New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Hello, Ixfd64,

I don't work much with files but I nominated File:Me after a 'shaving accident'.jpeg for FFD. The nomination hasn't generated any discussion but since I saw that you have closed a lot of FFD discussions I'm hoping you could tell me whether a trivial file used on a User page for a lone-gone editor is likely to be deleted. It was declined as a PROD, I think because I said it was a disturbing image and was rejected on grounds of "censorship" but I just don't think it serves any purpose besides a former editor's amusement. Good question!

I'm actually not too sure either. With regards to the PROD rationale, I don't believe a "disturbing" image used outside the article space should necessarily be deleted. WP:UPNOT does say user pages should not contain images "that would bring the project into disrepute," but this particular image doesn't really cross the line in my opinion. So the more important question is whether this image is "encyclopedic." We generally do allow established editor to have a personal photograph or two, but this is a bit of a borderline case because the user has made "only" about 450 edits before becoming inactive. I guess we'll have to see how the FfD goes, and use that as a precedent for future cases. Ixfd64 (talk) 05:10, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
