Speedy deletion nomination of Sumith Athukorala edit

Hello Gihan Jayaweera,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Sumith Athukorala for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

File permission problem with File:My Name Is Bandu poster.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:My Name Is Bandu poster.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 13:20, 28 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

IMDb title edit

Hello GJ. Thanks for creating so many good film articles. One tip though: the IMDb name template works for biographical entries on IMDb, but not for film entries. For films, Template:IMDb title is what's needed. The "tt" prefix also has to be removed. Here's an example of a fix I just made: [3]

Euwallacea fornicatior edit

I think that Euwallacea fornicatior, which you created on 5 September 2021‎ is the same species as Euwallacea fornicatus, based on the sourced you cited, which all refer to it as Euwallacea fornicatus. E. fornicatior is a synonymn, but that means Euwallacea fornicatior should redirect to Euwallacea fornicatus, not that it should have it's own article. Given the speed with which you appear to be creating (translating? from Afrikaans?) new articles, it is unsurprising that such mistakes happen. May I suggest that you slow down and check your work? You currently have 147 articles in the queue of unreviewed articles at Special:NewPagesFeed. That is the most I have ever seen by a single editor. Vexations (talk) 20:40, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Vexations::Thanks for your reply. Actually I am currently competing in the Afrocine 2021. That is why I am creating articles too fast. If I get slow, then I am out of the competition. Hope you will understand. Also, I have requested for autopatrolled tag, but no one accepted that. Cheers.. GihanJayaweeraTALK 07:20, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

I understand why you didn't get autopatrolled, and using your participation in a competition as an excuse for poor fact-checking is really problematic. I went over some of your contributions and found errors in all of them. This is not acceptable. Vexations (talk) 10:28, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
If you can tell me, what are those errors, then I can fix them next time. Because I am not an IT or programming genius. GihanJayaweeraTALK 10:41, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have added a {{Failed verification}} template for each citation that does not support the claim you made. Vexations (talk) 10:44, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
If I understand the rules of the competition, you'd get 0.5 points for every "reliable" source that you add. Does that explain why you add German sources that say the exact same thing that other sources already say? Or don't say what you cite them for at ALL? For points? Vexations (talk) 10:41, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Giving points will be done by the admins of the competitions. I am just finding new sources and references to the article. That's it. There are many pages without even one source. (not made by me). So what about them? GihanJayaweeraTALK 10:44, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don't care much for whataboutism. Vexations (talk) 10:45, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
ok So what is your opinion about my editing and creating? GihanJayaweeraTALK 11:00, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think all your articles currently in the WP:NPP queue should be draftified and withdrawn from the competition. You should not use sources in German, which you apparently do not speak. I also question your use of French and Spanish sources, but I am not yet done with the German ones. Every single one I checked so far is wrong. You then need to go every single citation and make sure that a) the source actually supports the statement and b) that there is not an other, better source already in the article that also supports it to avoid unnecessarily inflating the number of references. Vexations (talk) 11:21, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok. So, is there any wrong in English sources. Because, in the competition, recently I am using only the English references. SO is it ok? This time onward, I will not use other language websites. I will only use English websites. You can check my recent articles. GihanJayaweeraTALK 13:00, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm checking ALL your unreviewed articles and finding errors in every single one of them. I don't know how you write them, but it looks like you wrote the text first, and then added sources later. I would suggest that you start by gathering high-quality sources, (exclude everything that is a streaming site, a press release, blog or tabloid) and then summarize in your own words what those sources say. I think I was quite clear earlier. Your articles are riddled with errors and unreliable sources. You need to stop creating new articles. If you lost track of what you created, I can provide a list, but you can also go to Special:NewPagesFeed, click on Set Filters and check "Were created by" and then fill in your username. Fix those before continuing please. Vexations (talk) 16:08, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
How to identify unreliable sources? I know that blogs and other fan based articles are not allowed. But other than that, how to know that this site is reliable or not? Is there anyway to find that. And I am requesting to check the articles of others as well. Because you all are only thinking about my errors. Errors are normal for humans. Also I am not copy and paste like others. When I am writing the prose, there may be some errors. That is why reviewers are there. So editors like us need help from reviewers like you. But do not demoralize the work and creating articles. Because, Wikipedia is part of my life. So, I like to lift Wiki to the top of the rankings. If there are any faults, mispellings or errors, I am asking politely to tell me that. Hope you will understand. Thank You GihanJayaweeraTALK 16:48, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
WP:RS/P and WP:RS/N are the places to go for reliability of sources. You could also install the CiteHighlighter script As for checking others, I check anything that appears on the list of unreviewed articles in the new Pages feed. You just happen to be the person with the most unreviewed articles. If I point out to you that a source does not say what you cite it for, then you ought to fix the problem. If I point out to you that an article is full of errors, you should not expect me to rewrite it to comply with our standards. You should fix the articles you create. If you do not see the edits I make to add maintenance tags to the articles you have written, you should make sure they are on your watchlist. If you no longer have a list of all the articles you created, I can generate one for you. Vexations (talk) 17:15, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Your contributions to AfroCine Months of African Cinema edit

Hello Gihan Jayaweera, thank you for your contributions to AfroCine Months of African Cinema contest. Can I advise that you immediately put a stop to using predefined source code script for some parts (especially introductory text) for most of your entries, as that can fall under using "semi-automated" template to mass-create articles? HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:24, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

can you explain a bit about that pre defined source codr script?? I have no idea about that..because I am not a programmer... Thank you... GihanJayaweeraTALK 09:30, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
When asked by an editor why some parts of many of your articles were alike, you stated ...I have a source code format used in creating the article.... I am not quite sure what that means, as it can be interpreted in many ways. I want to assume good faith and choose to understand that we all have a way of creating articles, even though we might not document it somewhere as a "source code format". I certainly have a pattern in my head for creating different articles. But due to the peculiarities of this contest and concerns raised by fellow editors, it is advisable that your additions are created with as much care as possible. Not using the same format is just a way of ensuring that you have taken extra consideration to each entry.HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:45, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
After that incidence, now I am checking my article more than twice before uploading. That source code format means I have retained some web designing formats such as a format to write the biographical article, he was born......, in 0000, he acted in..... the person is a South African actor, notable for....., he is married to ...., something like that. During those parts, there may be some typing errors. That person showed me that part. So, what you suggest as a solution for that. Then how to write the article. I am from a non-English country. So from my education, i have developed a method to write the article. For these eight years, i did like that. Thats all... Thank you.. GihanJayaweeraTALK 13:02, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Good to know you are now going to be extra cautious going forward. Can I also request that you have a quick look at your previous contributions, just to ensure that each reference used directly supports the preceding sentence? If you can do that, then you are good in my opinion. Lastly, do you contribute to Tamil and Sinhalese Wikipedia?HandsomeBoy (talk) 13:26, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, I am not active in Tamil and Sinhala wiki. That editor informed me about that using non-English references. So, I think he removed them from the articles. GihanJayaweeraTALK 13:41, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
The reason I spoke about Tamil and Sinhala is that I found out they are widely spoken in Sri Lanka and a global contest such as this gives special recognition to non-English contributions. Infact, if two editors with the most articles creates 500 articles, one for only English Wikipedia, the other for a non-English Wikipedia, the one that contributed to a non-English Wikipedia will be eligible for more prizes, since we have more prize categories for such. Personally, I think your understanding of English is decent enough to contribute in this Wikipedia, it is more about being extra cautious. I am also a non-native speaker of English, and I know Wikipedians that became significantly better in their communication through practice here, so you are good. Nevertheless, it will be great if you can also contribute in one of the local languages too. HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:00, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
I like to contribute to Sinhala Wiki. But, my speed of Sinhala typing is not good. Also, I don't think African articles are important for Sinhala Wiki. Anyway, I will consider your request. Thanks for that. Hope to improve Wiki in every aspect. Nice to talk with a guy like you. Because some other editors always giving negative feelings on editing. Thank You again mate. Cheers. Proposed deletion of Unati Guma edit

The article Unati Guma has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not enough in-depth coverage from independent reliable sources to pass GNG, and does not appear to meet WP:NACTOR, no valid target to redirect to.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Lamine Dieng moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Lamine Dieng, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Speedy deletion nomination of Ravi Rajapaksha edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ravi Rajapaksha, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. KH-1 (talk) 05:46, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
